Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "This stuff is a freaking miracle worker. I have chronic constipation and can go weeks with no BMs thanks to my doctor-prescribed diet. Now, if I were to tell you nothing else worked, I'd be lying. Everything worked. However, this is the only product I've used that didn't leave me writhing in pain. Magnesium citrate, all stimulant laxatives, and even natural remedies gave me such awful cramps they'd double me over, and sometimes for days. Even saline laxatives made me queasy and ill-feeling for several hours post-BM. I thought I was out of options until I came across this at the Dollar Tree. No cramps, no discomfort, doesn't keep me up at night, and a BM like clockwork 5-6 hours after consuming. It completely empties me out!!!"

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "Was constipated for 2 days on vacation. Took 1.5 tbs Milk of M at 6 PM and another 1 tbs at 7:00 AM. I was able to go in the morning at 8 AM several times. It was easy and not watery, just a normal soft deposit. No cramps and no nausea. I think the people on here who got diarrhea and nausea after taking it took too much. Don't take more than it says. Taking half a bottle is going to make you have bad diarrhea. This was recommended to me by a doctor in the family who specializes in digestive system health."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I've tried everything, and I mean, EVERYTHING. I have severe OIC and have discovered that I need 'hydrating' laxatives. This is the best one I've tried that is reliable and predictable. I take it with lots of water. That's really important, otherwise, I will cramp and get nauseous. I also take it at night, and in the morning, after I'm up and moving around for about an hour, I will 'go'. Sometimes, in a severe bout of OIC, I may need the larger dose of 4 TBL. Just remember... lots of water with this. Good luck!"

Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I'm 8 weeks pregnant and have been having trouble with constipation. I also have problems with nausea and vomiting, so I know my intake of food and water hasn't been the best. Today I felt the urge to have a bowel movement and was really excited to do so, as that hasn't been happening for a couple of weeks and I had to take an enema about 3 days ago. I tried to make a BM, and nothing but a pellet came out, and I was left with stool in my rectum, which caused a good deal of pain and discomfort. I literally could not sit down. I managed to make it down the street to CVS for MoM (CVS brand). I took about 45 ml + water at first, and then about 20 minutes later, I took the additional 15 ml + water. 6.5 very painful hours later, baseballs came out. Relief!"

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I suffer from chronic constipation ever since I was a toddler (now 25 yrs). My boyfriend is a nurse and suggested this to me about 7 months ago. It definitely works, although each time has been a slightly different experience. It doesn't work well on a full stomach, I have noticed. Don't drink too much water either, or your butt may explode. I took it today after being constipated for 3 days at about 1 pm and had my first poop at about 3:30 pm. It is now 5:50 pm, and I've been to the bathroom every 10 minutes pooping out straight water. I have had perfect poops with this stuff and also experiences like this with mass amounts of diarrhea. I also have suffered nausea today and a couple of other times. My lower abdomen is also sensitive to the touch."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I have had the worst constipation experience ever. It literally affected me for almost a month. I was gassy, bloated, heaviness in the bottom of my stomach, and an awful, awful pressure feeling in my rectum. I tried several OTC remedies with minimal (rock/pellet) results. I bought MOM Sunday and took my first dose (30 ml) — nothing and no signs of anything. I am absolutely miserable — can’t sleep, can’t eat, and now, after taking MOM, nauseous!!!! On Monday evening, I took 60 ml (and chased it with 8 oz of water — something I failed to do with the initial dose. I didn’t sleep well at all Monday night — but on Tuesday morning things began to happen (thank goodness!!!). Initially, it was hard medium-sized “rocks.” But I literally have had 3 BM’s today (that has never happened in my 61 years of living). I feel better today than I have in weeks. Plan to take a smaller dose tomorrow. MOM will have a place in my household from this day forward!!!!"

Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I was constipated for 1 week (the usual), so I took the maximum amount. Oh, and I took the “Original flavor” because that's what was in my house. And it tastes like dead fish and baby diapers, so when I take a cap full, I throw a Starburst in my mouth along with water, hehe. So, on Tuesday, I took a dose because my tummy was severely bloated. But only a little came out. Then, on Thursday, I had a huge blowout (it was amazing). No cramps, but I was weak and had some nausea and felt faintish, but it was bearable. I just ate on time and drank lots of fluid. Then, on Friday, I'm starting to feel a little better. Still weak and slight nausea, and occasional bowel movements. I took Lipton to make my #2 just a little harder. But I love MOM. Used it 3 times so far, and it always works."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "On pain meds after an auto accident, I became constipated, no bowel movement for 3 days. Took 2 tbsp at 10 PM. First bowel movement at 1:30 AM, another at 3 AM. No cramping. Did get slightly nauseous, but well worth it to lose the pain, bloating, and frustration of not being able to go."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "Absolute worst medication ever. I took the recommended dose and have never felt such pain in my abdomen, along with the absolutely worst nausea and diarrhea for the whole day and counting. I can’t express how bad of an experience this was."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I was very constipated for about 5 days, in pain and feeling sick. I went to a very small pharmacy, and MoM was the laxative they had. I took 65 mls at 11 pm, then went to bed. I woke up at 9 am with some stomach gurgling and nausea and nothing else. I woke up again at 11 am with some gas, which I passed, then right after felt an extreme urgency to use the washroom. I had diarrhea that was mostly water, and on my way back downstairs, I felt the same urgency and needed to be back on the toilet NOW. I went back for round 2. It is now 1 pm and I am still having diarrhea, always mostly water and has been explosive a few times. This product definitely does its job but has caused me to have diarrhea several times, and based on the stomach gurgling and gas, I do not expect it to end soon."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I have chronic constipation from IBS-C and gastroparesis. I’ve tried just about everything, be it laxatives and fiber, you name it. And it’s so hard to get me to go unless it’s coffee. Well, I decided to try this after being recommended it by a coworker and a doctor at the ER, so I did some research and decided to purchase some. It had been 2 weeks since I had a BM, so I tried it yesterday and, sad to say, it didn’t do anything for me. I still couldn’t go. All I had was intense nausea, so bad I almost threw up on the way to work, and I had weird gurgly noises from my stomach. It did it for hours, but I was still super constipated. I am very sad it didn’t work for me, 'cause I’ve read so many good things about it as well! I’m not gonna say I don’t recommend it, I just have a stubborn stomach, and most laxatives don’t work for me anyways."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Indigestion "I think it's a double-edged sword, apparently, I had some stomach flu or food poisoning. Symptoms were heartburn, gas, bloating, and constipation. Took a few tablespoons of MOM. It did help with the constipation and gas initially, unfortunately, the side effects are gas and nausea. I have experienced gas and nausea from magnesium supplements before. So while it did help with my condition, I don't think overall it's worthwhile for gas and heartburn, as it can irritate the stomach! At least mine anyway."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Indigestion "The first time I had taken MoM, it was for a few days of constipation, and it worked overnight- I took the 1 tbsp (concentrate version) around 10 pm before bed. It made me feel a bit nauseated, but I finally fell asleep and woke up around 8 am to have a healthy movement. The second time I took MoM, it was for pretty bad indigestion and bloating, and I took the same dose as before, thinking I had until morning, at around 10:30 pm. I was awoken at about 1 am with the feeling like I had to pass gas, and I almost did, but not wanting to trust it, I carried myself to the throne, and I've been sitting here for 30 minutes now, with ALMOST diarrhea. Again, I felt nauseous taking it this time."

Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I’ve been taking MOM for years. I try to keep to twice a week or less. I have pelvic floor dysfunction. I take Citrucel and eat high-fiber foods. Sometimes the constipation catches up with me. I have to take MOM for relief. I take a full dose, but sometimes I have to add 30 ml hours later to work, but it does the job. I drink a couple of cups of water with it. I do experience nausea and sometimes cramps, but it’s better than being plugged up. I recommend it."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I used to use this for years. But recently, I have been constipated due to my medications. I bought a bottle, and when I used it (according to instructions: 2 tbsp for an adult), it made me very ill. I was nauseated, and I was vomiting. I thought it was just a bad bottle, so I went and bought another one, and the same thing happened when I used it. I don't know if they changed something with the ingredients, but this is the first time this stuff made me sick."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I took the max dose of it after breakfast for the first time for chronic constipation. I didn't have a BM after 7 hours and just had horrible heartburn, stomachache, nausea, bloating, and vomiting. It was basically a lot of pain, and I was so sad that I took this in the first place because the pain was worse than not pooping for 2 weeks! I got a BM the next morning, and it was completely watery diarrhea, and it was the worst pain ever. I told my doctor that this is just painful, but he told me I have to take this because I already tried everything, nothing worked, so MOM was the last choice. I already done a test, and it was all normal. Anyway, it was the worst pain ever, and I would NOT recommend this!!!"

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I was constipated for weeks and only had minimal bowel movements consisting of hard stool. I ate lots of fruit, prunes, flaxseed bread, and upped my water intake but no relief. I resorted to Dulcolax and stool softeners, which didn’t do much to ease the situation either. When I read good reviews about Milk of Magnesia, I bought a bottle of the cherry flavor and took 2 tablespoons with a large glass of water at 9:30 pm. Tasted gross and made me feel a little nauseous. Went to bed, no cramping all night. Next morning at 7:30 am, I had my first movement with some mild straining. At 10:30 am, another, and at 3 pm, I had cleared out my bowels! I never had any cramping or diarrhea. I would definitely recommend using Milk of Magnesia for constipation! Don’t take too much, just be patient!"
