"Had not had a movement for 3 days and felt pressure in stomach. Took a large dose at bedtime. It worked very well, in fact, too well. It worked while I was sleeping, first time I've soiled my bed since infancy."

"I've never had problems with my bowel movements. However, I just had to have surgery and was taking a narcotic - mostly to sleep at night. I had a small bowel movement the third night home, but then felt horribly constipated. It was almost worse than the operation. It was painful, uncomfortable in my belly, and bloating. I took olive oil, ate fruit, did all the things to get my body moving. I walked around for hours. Still, nothing. Finally, my mother came over with the Phillips Milk of Magnesia, and I took the largest amount. Nothing right away. I became frustrated and took another two teaspoons about three hours into waiting. Exactly six hours after I took the first dose, my system finally kicked in - BIG TIME. It was really painful, but relief."

"This product really works. I suffer from frequent constipation, but this product is the first to give easy, gentle relief. Now don’t get your hopes high on it working in 6 hours if you're really backed up. It took 10 hours to work for me, but definitely worth the wait. I will definitely use this product again."

"I suffered from diverticulitis 15 years ago. Had to have part of my sigmoid colon removed after it perforated, almost died from the infection. Things went well for 7 years, until I had to have surgery again because of blockage due to stomach adhesions, which they say is typical after that kind of surgery. In each of these incidents, I was unable to poop, and my stomach grew to the size of 2 watermelons! It was so painful. Well, it happened again! I couldn't pass anything but a few hard marbles for 2 weeks! The pain and gas were horrible! I tried everything, Senokot, prunes, etc. I was getting really scared that what was left of my colon would explode and I would die! I took a dose of MOM, and voila, it worked! Be near a toilet for several hours, though!"

"Oh my word! This stuff saved my life. It took the maximum 6 hr time to work. And it only softened half the load, the other half was a runny nightmare. I compared my constipation pain level to having a child. I was in the bathroom 20 times thinking... This is it!! This is it!!!! Just to be let down and hurting with more cramping. But when it finally softened it up just enough to get that biggie out, the rest came tumbling right after. Got to love methadone. I haven't been taking in as much water as I should and have been eating way too much ice cream. (Hint: dairy makes matters worse). What a horrible night. Give it time. It'll work one way or another, lol."

"I was constipated for 5+ days. I have some general IBS problems but usually not this severe. This was my first time I have had to use a laxative. The constipation got to the point where it looked and felt like I was 3 months pregnant (no possibility of actually being pregnant). I took 2 doses of 15 ml an hour apart before bed with 8 oz of water with each dose. I took the lowest dose because I am a small female adult and did not want to overdo it. I felt very slight cramping at night, but overall it worked great! Very minimal pain, and I had a BM about 13 hours later (more than it says, but still worth it). The BM was fairly solid and full. I would highly recommend this product if you need a little help as it is gentle and it works!"

"I suffered from severe constipation. A week or more at times with not going; when I did, it was like rabbit pellets. MOM works very well, but it was explosive pooping (make sure you drink lots of water with it). I wanted to poop, not have diarrhea for hours. I now changed my diet, lowered a constipation-causing drug I am on for another condition, drink plenty of water, take olive oil, take pro and prebiotics, take cod liver oil, drink veggie smoothies, no more white bread or junk foods/sodas, exercise, meditate, and stretch my muscles. MOM is not a long-term solution... lifestyle change is. Good luck to you."

"I have been told I had IBS in the ER. The doctor said MOM is very gentle if I got constipated, and I do from time to time. So after feeling bloated and bound up, I took the 2 Tbsp dose and waited... well, in an hour, I was almost running to the throne and every 15 minutes after for an hour. It does as advertised."

"I was constipated for 3 days, very uncomfortable, in pain, so I figured I would give this a try. It worked wonderfully. I took the highest dose, 4 tbsp, about 3 hours later, I finally pooped, then pooped 3 more times through the day. Needless to say, I felt much better! I definitely recommend this, even for the worst constipation, it definitely cleans you out. Oh yeah, I bought the mint flavor, which isn't that bad, you just have to get past the chalkiness of it. Just shoot it down quick. I will be using this again for future problems, maybe try another flavor, I would imagine they are all probably chalky."

"I'm very pleased with the outcome of this medication, although it did not work as fast as I had anticipated. I had constipation for 2 days, and the prescribed medication for constipation, used because of opioids, did not work, so I reached for the MoM. I took 4 tablespoons last night, and nothing happened. Finally, I took another 4 tablespoons this afternoon, and it worked in an hour. No cramping. Very gentle. Thank you, MoM."

"Clonidine for high blood pressure works great, but causes severe constipation. My doctor did not help. I tried this last night, and it was a lifesaver. I had been in so much pain that I was considering an ER visit."

"Went to the bathroom and rock-hard bowel was harder than a rock, so bad it pushed against the rectum, causing severe pain. Took 120 mL, 30-45 minutes later was able to pass a huge bowel, but was still a big job - I thought I was going to tear something, but feel a lot better. No one to blame but myself, that's what opiates do."

"I have dealt with constipation for years. I have no other health issues and am at a normal weight. Even when eating very healthy, lots of veggies, fruit, and fiber, no processed food, and drinking lots of water, there are problems. I hate laxatives and stool softeners. I heard being low in magnesium can cause chronic constipation, so I thought I’d try milk of magnesia. It has changed my life. It does not give me diarrhea, it allows me to eliminate normally like I did when I was younger. I take 30 ml every night and have two normal bowel movements the next morning between waking up and about noon. I can go to the bathroom completely too, without feeling like there’s always more there that won’t come out. I highly recommend it for a gentle solution."

"I had been constipated for nearly four days. My stomach was cramping. I took 4 tablespoons, and after 6 hours, nothing. I then took another 4 tablespoons. My stomach began churning and gurgling at about the 8th hour. My first BM was semi-solid. Then the floodgates opened. Almost watery stools. I've had to run to the toilet several times. Do not take this if you're going to be away from home. Also, be careful coughing, sneezing, or passing gas. You may have an accident. Much better than being backed up and cramping."

"I was constipated for 6 days. I tried 1/2 citrate magnesia, which only made me move once with tiny balls. Nothing else. I tried prunes, oatmeal, prunes blended in oatmeal, fig newtons, bran muffin, drinking 4 to 5 glasses of water 10 mins apart, walking, and nothing. I was getting impacted. I was considering taking an enema at this point but tried MoM instead. I took two full doses, which equal eight tbsp. This was suggested to me by a nurse who knows of my previous situation in which one full dose does not work for upon impaction. I drank two full glasses of water and followed with a probiotic after reading a doctor tell someone to follow MoM with a probiotic on HealthTrap. It took about 6 hours and a few glasses of water, and I can sleep now."

"Thank you for this website!!!! I would not be a happy camper today if not for these reviews. I thought I had a flu bug last weekend, and in 2 days, I was only going a little bit, with barely any gas release during the day, and became super bloated. Normally, you can set an alarm by my bowel habits - at least 3 times a day. I tried using vegetables and prunes, etc., but by day 5, I figured I should try a laxative before going to the doctor. The pharmacist recommended another product, but it had terrible reviews - too harsh. I bought the mint MoM and took 2 tbsp around 9:30. By midnight, I had a small relief, and around 2 AM, I was up with diarrhea for the rest of the night. Not complaining - got total relief with NO cramping! Sore muscles today, though."

"I suffer from chronic constipation ever since I was a toddler (now 25 yrs). My boyfriend is a nurse and suggested this to me about 7 months ago. It definitely works, although each time has been a slightly different experience. It doesn't work well on a full stomach, I have noticed. Don't drink too much water either, or your butt may explode. I took it today after being constipated for 3 days at about 1 pm and had my first poop at about 3:30 pm. It is now 5:50 pm, and I've been to the bathroom every 10 minutes pooping out straight water. I have had perfect poops with this stuff and also experiences like this with mass amounts of diarrhea. I also have suffered nausea today and a couple of other times. My lower abdomen is also sensitive to the touch."

"I'm 8 weeks preg and couldn't be able to move my bowel with hot drinks, Colace, fruits, high fiber... stuck with feeling to go but not coming out for a week. Then I tried MOM, which I have no experience with before, so I only took 30 cc with a warm cup of milk. I took MOM at 11 PM, and right at 12:30, it started working. Wow, it worked like a champ. I did get a little cramp for a minute, then that's all. It started with a hard part and soft, then diarrhea. Took about 20 minutes, done with the job. Thank you, MOM. I made the right choice."

"I hate this vile-tasting substance more than anything. And the flavored ones do not help the taste. However, it works every single time without any cramping. I have tried every laxative out there, and this is the only one 100% reliable and 100% cramp-free. It also comes in a concentrated form, and so, less is consumed for the same results. It comes in tablet form, but is not as reliable. I wish that there could be a better way to get the gentle, reliable relief that Milk of Magnesia gives."

"Product worked great for me. I was so constipated for about a week. I use gummy vitamins, gummy probiotics, and recently tried gummy CBD. I think all the 'gummy' was the problem, although I have hypothyroid, which does not help. I was taking Colace stool softeners all week and nothing. I got the MOM cherry flavor, and in 8 hours, pain-free, I had a bowel movement. Thank goodness. I am moving from the gummy scene - I think I was headed for a bowel blockage. MOM from now on!!!"

"I was taking pain medication for a knee injury, and I suffered from severe constipation. When I say severe, I mean I could barely walk. It was so painful that I had to get my husband to help me off the toilet so I could curl up in bed in the fetal position. I couldn't eat anything either. My grandma recommended Milk of Magnesia. I sent my husband out to get me some, and I took the max dose that was allowed in a day. I was in pain for almost six hours before it started to kick in. It did soften my stool, but it was still painful coming out as I was EXTREMELY constipated. Then after the major bowel movement, I did have some diarrhea. MOM got the job done! I can't complain because the pain I was experiencing was almost unbearable."

"Okay, so I have problems with pooping. I’m constipated regularly, at least once a month, but it’ll last at least a week. I’ve tried literally everything that could possibly help me, and nothing worked. I took suppositories, laxative pills, laxative powder, plum shakes, ate papaya, etc. My boyfriend told me to buy this because it helped him, so I did. I drank the amount I was told to take, and in about an hour, I was pooping my guts out. It’s clearing out my whole stomach. Literally, every 5 minutes, I run to the bathroom. I’m just sitting on the toilet now because it won’t stop."

"Was so constipated, hadn't had a BM for 5 days. I had gotten to the point where I was in the bathroom straining for hours, could feel stool trapped but not moving, and no amount of pushing would move it. I felt like I was being ripped in half, could hardly walk, sit, or even stand. I was in so much discomfort. I looked up home remedies, by this point, I was desperate and was seriously starting to worry that I would have to go to the emergency room and endure the embarrassment of having stool dug out of my backside. Then I came across threads for milk of magnesia and figured what did I have to lose? At 8 o'clock in the morning, I got my husband to go to the pharmacy and buy me some as I was incapable of going myself at this point. Took double the recommended dose at 8:30 and by 10, I was running to the bathroom, sadly, I didn't make it in time, but the relief was out of this world. Thank you, MOM."

"I took 3 tbsp, and it worked like crazy within 2 hours for me. So far, I have been back and forth in the bathroom for 7 times. I drank some more water after the 5th time, and it made me run back twice more. If I ever have to use it again, I will only take 1 tbsp."

"My GI doc recommended this for chronic constipation following ostomy reversal surgery. I took the full dose and had complete, painless evacuation in 6 hours. Now I take a half dose every night before bed to keep things moving. I highly recommend for severe constipation."
