"I have been a mental health counselor for 37 years and have worked with ADHD for 25. Of all the medications, Vyvanse is the best. It is important to start low, 20 mg, and then increase based on focus, concentration, and mid-afternoon agitation. Expect very few side effects. Slight appetite loss but manageable. Very important to take it at 7 am every day. May want to hold off on weekends unless there is a need to focus for study. Consider counseling to help stay on track and educate clients and families regarding the fact that ADHD is a gift of creativity and out-of-the-box thinking."

"I am a male and 42 years old. I am an ASM in retail and a husband and father of four kids. The doctor prescribed 30 mg the first two months and upped the meds to 40 mg. I have only been on them for 5 months. I have seen and felt a huge change in my lifestyle. I am more focused at home and especially at work. I am Mr. Mom and won't stop cleaning at home. I even cut and edge my neighbor's front yard. I lost 10 lbs and now weigh 197. I do feel myself get upset faster though. Because I feel that, I also stop and calm myself down. So far I have no complaints... yet."

"This medication is really messing with my head. I'm popping Vyvanse once every morning. I started on 30 mg and I did feel the improvement, I felt motivated, active, and less impulsive. After a month, it started to feel like nothing. I felt like it had no effect on me. I saw my psychiatrist, and he prescribed me 50 mg to try out this month. It's been 2 days, and I've already noticed no improvements. It makes me feel depressed, dehydrated, and makes me get angry very easily, like one small thing annoys me like I want to knock someone out. I noticed tonight that people are having trouble understanding me, like I speak normally, and people tell me they don’t understand me. My focus hasn’t improved since I started taking meds again. It only improved for a few days, and since the meds changed up my personality and are making me worse, it's even getting me into trouble at work behavior-wise. I don’t recommend this medication whatsoever."

"Both my daughter and I take Vyvanse for ADD/ADHD. It has helped us significantly. My daughter initially tried Biphentin, but it did not help her symptoms and caused her not to eat or sleep. With Vyvanse, there is a dramatic improvement of her symptoms and less side effects. It just suppresses her appetite. We take her off occasionally to help her appetite and have also tried a short-acting formulation that she takes after breakfast and again after lunch so her appetite isn’t as affected. I experience very good results on Vyvanse as well (and don’t mind curbing my appetite slightly)."

"Dr. diagnosed me with ADD, he put me on Vyvanse. It did help me focus but caused near anorexia. It actually helped with depression symptoms that antidepressants were never able to help me with. I never really wanted to eat while I was on the medication. Just no appetite. All of my life was normal/thin. No prior eating disorders. Never was a binge eater. I went from 120 lbs to 100 lbs on the medication. The worst is stopping the medication. Be warned. I developed a never-before binge eating disorder from discontinuing Vyvanse. Gained back all the weight I lost PLUS I have gained an additional 30 pounds on top of my normal weight. I put on about 50 pounds since stopping Vyvanse. I cannot get the weight off. I often think about starting up the pills again to help me rid the after Vyvanse weight gain, but what will happen to me after I stop again? Wish I never started it to begin with."

"I have been taking Vyvanse for just a week. 40mg. The first 3 days, I couldn't sit down. I cleaned my house and my parents'. Not just cleaned, but extra clean, like walls and moving furniture and everything. But now it has faded a little. I noticed right away that when I am doing stuff, it's like I really concentrate and strive for perfection in everything. My appetite has been curbed, but I still eat. But nowhere like I did before. So far, I've lost 4 pounds. It's been almost a week. I don't get any feelings of jitters, or that I'm taking speed. I feel normal, I just want to do stuff. I'm more social. I always stayed in my home, but now I just want to go out. It's a very nice feeling. I have no problems sleeping either, but I also take it as soon as I wake up."

"I have seen mental health experts on and off for over 50 years. Never diagnosed other than it's just the way I am and you're getting by. I was always a scatterbrain and always at the bottom of my class. I started taking Vyvanse through my own research and had a doctor put me on it. It's like somebody turned on a light switch. No more brain fog. No more scatterbrain. I found my self-confidence. Wish I found this decades ago, but I'm so grateful I'm on it now. Thank you, thank you, thank you."

"I'm 24 and was diagnosed with ADHD in March of 2020. I've been on the Vyvanse train since July of this year. After trying a couple of other meds between '21-'22, I was nervous because of past history with other stimulants. To my surprise, I took very well considering the side effects. Headaches, fatigue, loss of appetite, but those went away within a week or so. I have tried different dosages, 30 to 40 to 50 back to 40 because I thought 50 was way too much right now. Presently, I would tell everybody that when increasing or decreasing dosages, the side effects do not last long. Overall, this medication has made me a better son, a better friend, a better listener. I really do love this medication and recommend it for ADHD."

"I have been taking Vyvanse 30 mg for 2 weeks for adult ADHD. It has been very helpful for me to stay on task at work and get things done that normally I would have a hard time with. I used to get very overwhelmed with what needed to be done and completely shut down, not getting anything done at all! Then I would beat myself up for being a procrastinator, etc. I have not had any issues with insomnia or any other side effects, besides the normal appetite suppression during the day, which has resulted in an 8 lb weight loss in 2 weeks. No complaints here as I need to lose about 20. I recommend not drinking more than 1 or 2 cups of coffee while taking this. I did once and was jacked up. Not a good feeling. I highly recommend taking this if you are having attention deficit."

"I am 16 and I started using Vyvanse a little over one month ago. I am a very bright student, but I found myself struggling through school. I was diagnosed with ADD around 4th grade. I have always had trouble focusing and staying on task. I tried Concerta, Ritalin, Strattera, and Adderall. After taking those, I took about a 4-year break from medicine. I began Wellbutrin and am now taking that in combination with Vyvanse. My grades improved tremendously. I can now focus and it shows. I went from a D in Algebra/Geo to an A. My life and confidence have improved more than I ever thought possible. I do have decreased appetite, but other than that, this medicine is literally making my future brighter every day."

"40mg Vyvanse kept me awake all day, however, from the moment I took the 30mg dose I could stay awake and focused for 12 hours straight and still sleep at night. If I had this medicine in High School, my life today would be 100% different. I would have excelled in academics and done much better in sports."

"Vyvanse 60mg (19 years old, 138 lbs) Suffered from ADD since I was 7 years old. Never consulted before, I am now 19 years old. I just got my first prescription. I always had issues with my grades, and I always had to work 5 times more than every other student for the same grade. Today, after my first pill, I just realized that in a normal condition, my brain was only working at 20% of its full capacity when studying, reading, driving, or even in sexual relations (I had erectile dysfunction). Today, with the pill, I just felt invincible and in a super good mood. Not understanding what you're studying or simply reading is just depressing. The pill took effect after 1 hour and it lasted approximately 10-12 hours. I really recommend Vyvanse."

"Before Vyvanse, I had tried many other medications. It helped me quickly. I realized that I actually liked school and learning. Within weeks, I went from failing to honors. But now that I'm older, I realize that it alters my personality and my mood a lot. And I find that when I don't have it, I tend to feel like I am incapable of completing simple tasks."

"I've tried so many medications that really did nothing for me except give me more mental problems. When I started on Vyvanse, I felt invincible. If you've ever watched the movie limitless, that's exactly how it feels! There was this short period of time that I took a break every now and then, do not do that! It made me chronically bipolar but I've started up on it and it really is the best medication you could have. If you wish to get off of it, I suggest you do so slowly and on days you don't have it, drink caffeine. It took me 6 months to not have that addictive feeling, now I'm back on it because I'm going back to school. It's up to you to say whether the side effects outweigh the epic benefits. It took me a while to figure that out. Good luck!"

"Vyvanse has changed my life, for the better. It gives me the motivation and confidence I need to complete tasks that otherwise would be daunting and unappealing. Talk to your doctor first to make sure you actually would benefit from it. The only downside is how expensive it can get if you're not covered."

"I am in my thirties, and Vyvanse was the first drug I tried for ADHD. At 20 mg, it was great for my symptoms, but only until about noon. Over a couple of weeks, I went to 30 mg and 40 mg. It was less helpful as I stepped up the dose, and I started getting terrible headaches in the evening. I will be trying something else."

"I am a 43-year-old mom of 2 (3 if you count my husband). I can't stress enough how much Vyvanse has completely changed my life. I was diagnosed with ADD after my oldest received her diagnosis about 10 years ago. I've tried Adderall, Concerta, & the like and even on high doses, NEVER experienced the clarity & energy I've gotten on just 20mg of Vyvanse. I've just started taking it 2 weeks ago & wish I had discovered this medicine years ago! The only issue is that this week I titrated up to 30mg and have noticed some irritability, so I think I'll go back to the lower dose. Love, love, LOVE my new lease on life thanks to Vyvanse!"

"My 9-year-old son started taking this medicine 1 month ago. He was on Medadate CD for 3 years before this. It has been wonderful so far. His grades, homework time, handwriting, behavior, and overall outlook on things have changed for the better. The side effects are no appetite and trouble settling down at night, but they are getting better. My only advice is to feed them a very good breakfast before giving the medicine and have a good meal waiting when they come off."

"It works, but nowhere near the 10–12 hours advertised. I get 5 hours out of my Vyvanse dose. And an hour of that is waiting for it to kick in. I’ve read an enzyme in your body has to convert this medicine into its active form, and if you have too much of this enzyme or if you’re a “fast metabolizer,” then one could have my experience. I’m switching to Dexedrine Spansules 2–3 times a day as I’m a Realtor and need full-day coverage."

"I was on Ritalin XR, but it felt like rat poison to me. I was only remembering the ups and downs, and the short good time was not worth it. Yesterday, I took my first Vyvanse (Elvanse (EU)), and I was in heaven for the first time in my life. Everything that has been my problems seemed to vanish to some extent, and it lasted all day! I'm so happy right now. I'm sitting writing this 2 hours into my second dose (day), and the most fantastic feeling has already kicked in. I'm so amazed that I can't get it out loud enough. :) I have been late diagnosed with ADHD at age 48. I have struggled all my life with a lot of failing and had to work twice as much as others to achieve my goals. I'm so thrilled now for what the future will bring for me!"

"First I want to say that everyone is different and not everyone reacts the same to medication. I started with Concerta, it didn't work for me at all. I didn't feel like myself, it took over my personality, and I started to have heavy anxiety, panic attacks, antisocial behavior, and paranoia. Then I got Vyvanse, and it's life-changing. It doesn't feel like I'm on a prescription. It's more a tool that helps me get through everyday life. I'm much calmer, I can concentrate on one thing at a time. I get so much more done, and I feel like I'm at peace with my mind. My patience has improved, I'm less impulsive, and I can sit for a long time straight without feeling bubbly or restless. Side effects: dry mouth, no appetite. But eat and eat smart, it gets back."

"My 5-year-old son was prescribed Vyvanse as his first medication after being diagnosed with ADHD-combined type, and we've seen a huge difference in his attitude already. He is so polite, much calmer (but not zombied), still has his personality, and is active. He's become more aware of his surroundings and how to treat others around him appropriately. I can't wait for school to start again to see how well his social relationships will improve now that he's undergoing treatment. Side effects the first few days were not nice to watch, but he adjusted and is doing awesome. No insomnia or appetite loss either, and he has no complaints; it's perfect for him!"

"When I started receiving calls from my kindergartener's teacher at least once a week, I couldn't believe it. But after several months of struggling through the seemingly easiest of tasks, I decided to take my daughter to counseling. Her counselor and psychiatrist took all of the right steps to diagnose her ADHD, and after 6 weeks of holding onto the prescription, I gave in and started administering the 20mg of Vyvanse. My daughter made a complete turnaround! Happy in the morning, soaring at school, and even sleeping well at night! In a month after starting Vyvanse, she was awarded 'student of the month'. By the end of school, she was the 'most improved student of the year'. My only concern is that she already needs the 30mg dose."

"I was officially diagnosed with ADHD around age 28, but it wasn't until I was 30 that I decided to try medication. I started with Vyvanse. Holy crap! It was amazing. I hadn't realized how much noise went on in my head until it was quiet. Then I could have linear thought patterns. For the first time ever, my life started to come together. I could see tasks in processes, I could think clearly, and I could manage my emotions. It was amazing. Then the side effects kicked in. My doctor and I went through every other ADHD medication there was, and nothing helped. I did more research and found that my problem was that all of the medications use dyes, which gave me flu-like symptoms. Vyvanse uses the most dyes, so it made me the sickest. I now take it out of the capsule."

"Vyvanse has been very much a mixed bag for me. I have taken it for years, but then quit it for more than 5 years, and now I'm planning to start it again. I do it with trepidation, though. First of all, I think there are lots of people on here giving nines and tens that aren't legitimate reviews. So consider that carefully, please. I'm going to give it a 6, I think. It's hard to put a number on it. I myself have found it to be pretty addictive, but some of you will be okay, it varies. It works amazingly well at first, but it may not do as well after a couple of weeks, then you will be tempted to take a higher dose, take it more often, or just be frustrated. The biggest problem for me probably is that it causes a mood swing downwards when it wears off, which I think everyone that takes it has, but to a greater or lesser degree. This dysphoria really is unpleasant. The drug works quite well for me for about 4 hours. Insomnia can be a HUGE problem issue if taken late in the day."
