For Birth Control "Before I got my IUD, I researched a ton about what to expect during and after the procedure. All the reviews had me terrified of the procedure, saying it was the most pain they've ever had, that they fainted, that they were bleeding for months afterwards, etc. DO NOT listen to these. Every experience is incredibly personal and will be different for every single person! The procedure itself felt like a slightly more extreme period cramp, and then for the next few days, I had mild cramps that were on and off, nothing different from a normal period. I have some spotting, but it is very tolerable and manageable. Overall, this has been an extremely effective contraceptive for me."

For Birth Control "I have had Skyla for about 5 months, and it's been GREAT! I had some cramping after insertion, but it wasn't anything too bad. I have had very light periods, and I'm starting to lose weight! I love my Skyla IUD."

For Birth Control "I have had Skyla since March 6, 2019. I’m 27, and I also have PCOS. I’m on metformin to help with my PCOS symptoms. Before Skyla, I had painful periods, which were moderate to light flow. I would also spot daily between periods. My insertion was painful even though I was on day 2 of my period. I have never had children before, so I think that is why it was so painful. I have a high pain tolerance too. I was very dizzy after and had to lay in my doctor's office for a few minutes before I left. I bled for about 30-40 days straight with cramps on and off after my insertion, which is to be expected. Now my periods are light to the point I do not need a pad! My cramps are not as painful, they are just annoying. My daily spotting has gone away, and I’m still losing weight like I was before I had Skyla inserted! I did notice that I retained my water weight from when they inserted Skyla on my period, but I lost the water weight the next time I got my period. Overall, I would recommend Skyla."

For Birth Control "I am 5'0, 120 pounds. I am also 18 years old. I have never had a child or been pregnant. After seeing so many bad reviews, I was scared to get Skyla. BUT I'M SO HAPPY I DID. I have only had it for a few days (and will write another review after a month). The insertion process was painful but not that bad. It felt like bad cramps. I have experienced some cramps, but nothing Advil can’t handle. My periods are normally awful, I throw up and often have to lay in bed. After insertion, I started my period (normal timing), and so far it has been so easy. Normally I use like 12 super tampons a day, but only have gone through 5 the last three days? I have had no mood swings. I feel good and happy! I will tell y’all how it goes after another month or two!"

For Birth Control "I'm a 22-year-old college student, and today, I received my Skyla IUD. I must say I read so many reviews on the days leading up to my insertion. I was anxious and nervous about the pain and cramping. My nurse practitioner talked me throughout the whole process, and I even had a nurse holding my hand. It was absolutely not painful at all, definitely uncomfortable, but no pain. I did experience some moderate cramping, but that subsided after 30 seconds. I'm only on day 1, so I don't know what the next few days will hold, but I'm expecting some cramping. All in all, DON'T be afraid to get this like I was!"

For Birth Control "I got my Skyla inserted 4 days ago. I was so nervous to go through with it after spending countless hours reading other people's experiences. The doctor told me she would stop at any point if the pain became too much to handle. The whole procedure lasted maybe 5 minutes at most. I did not feel a single thing and actually had to question if she truly finished. I did not experience any cramps for the first 12 hours, but once they kicked in, they were no different than period cramps, a little ibuprofen here and there and everything was fine. Bleeding has ranged from light to barely even spotting, but my period tends to last a week so it may just be from that. So far, I am very happy with my decision to get it. DON'T LET THE BAD EXPERIENCES WORRY YOU!"

For Birth Control "I've had Skyla since September 30, 2016. The insertion process was quick and very painful for me. I almost blacked out. My period came around the same time each month, normally lasts a week. Which was dreadful because without birth control I'm only on for 3 days and it's light, lol. But here's why I am getting it removed next Thursday: these early labor contraction-like cramps are horrible! The pain is so bad it makes me feel like I'm about to throw up. I get the cramps every month for a week before my period, and I cry (actual tears) every time. It literally puts me in a ball. Heating pad and pain medicine work somewhat. Skyla did its job at preventing pregnancy, but the side effects just aren't worth it. I stayed on as long as I could."

For Birth Control "Don’t do it. I can’t believe I let the doctor talk me into getting Skyla; I originally went in for the copper, but she talked me out of it because I’m 17 and I haven’t had any kids. It has the same hormones as the Nexplanon, basically: progestin. When I had the arm implant a year ago, I had it for 7 months and attempted suicide, had hair loss, and my acne returned (even after being on Accutane for 6 months), and I gained 15 pounds. I took a break from birth control and switched to Skyla, and it is the dumbest decision I have ever made. It’s only been a month, and I’m always crying as I can feel the depression already sneaking its way back. Whenever I comb my hair or run my fingers through, I get about a dozen strands coming out, and my acne is once again horrific. If you are already on Skyla and going through this, you are not alone."

For Birth Control "I am 26 years old with no children, and this is my first IUD. I was previously on the pill. I never had any issues with that, just wanted to try something different. I got Skyla put in on 3-23-17, so almost 2 weeks ago. The procedure took about 5 minutes, wasn't bad, just felt like really hard menstrual cramps. I felt fine when I left my appointment. About 30 minutes later, I experienced really painful cramps that lasted about 4 hours, I took some Aleve at the onset of the bad cramps. The next day, I felt normal. I had some light cramping and very light spotting. The cramping lasted exactly 7 days. I've not had any more cramps since, but I'm still spotting on and off, very minimal, which is expected. So far, so good! Doing an update review on 4-23-17 & 6/23/17."

For Birth Control "I am 24 years old and have a serious boyfriend. I’ve never been on any birth control, but I got tired of using condoms. I got Skyla inserted back in February, so I’ve had it in for about 5 months now. Insertion was painful for about a total of 10 seconds. After that, I felt totally fine. I was able to drive and go into work. I even went skiing a couple of weeks later with no issues. Since then, I’ve noticed spotting as opposed to an actual period. Cramps and headaches do occur when I’m on my period, sometimes the cramps can be very painful, but usually subside when I take ibuprofen. I definitely get hunger cravings a lot more, but I don’t have any weight gain. In fact, I weighed 115 when I had it put in, and I now weigh 114. Overall, I love having Skyla due to the simplicity of insertion, management, and birth control. I highly recommend it!"

For Birth Control "I am writing this review for the sake of all women who are iffy on this product. I was apprehensive to Skyla ONLY because of what I read online. Despite my doctor assuring me this was the best option for me, I still was not 100% on Skyla. I am one month post-insertion, and I am so happy I decided to go with Skyla. I am 19 years old, and I have struggled with birth control since it was present in my life. I cannot be on the combined pill due to the migraines with aura (visual changes) I get, and I struggle with acne, so the POP pill is not for me. I decided to go with Skyla, and I'm very pleased. Insertion (for me) was a bad cramp that lasted no more than 5 seconds. Spotting/cramps continued for about a month after, but now I'm good."

For Birth Control "I got my IUD put in September of last year. It was the most painful thing I've ever experienced and took me about two days to recover, with months and months of side effects. I kept hearing to give my body time to adjust, but I just knew something was wrong. Today, I finally went to the doctor to have it removed a year later. They seemed annoyed with the fact I wanted it removed and advised me against it, saying it was very unlikely causing me other problems. When she took it out, it was covered in tissue... She said she'd never seen anything like it before. She told me it must have been inserted incorrectly and it probably was the reason for all of my discomfort and pain. Never ignore your body if something feels off! So relieved I got it removed!"

For Birth Control "I am 22 years old, and I got the Skyla about 7 months ago. I'm not going to lie, getting it inserted was pretty painful, but I was easily able to drive myself home. The next two weeks, I felt pretty bloated and constipated, but nothing crazy. I spotted a little at first, but now I haven't had a period in about 5 months. That freaks me out, so I get pregnancy tests every once in a while just to be safe. I didn't get acne or gain weight. So far, I like it a lot better than the pill."

For Birth Control "Well, I had Skyla for a couple of months. I got it in probably March or April. It’s now October, and I am 2 months pregnant. Before any of that happened, I couldn’t take the pain of it, like the cramps were the worst. I felt like rubbish. I asked my OB to change it, and she recommended I take the antibiotics because she had one in for years, and she didn’t think it was that bad. So I took the antibiotics, and now I’m pregnant. So yeah, Skyla sucks!"

For Birth Control "I switched from Paragard to Skyla about a year and a half ago. I wanted an IUD because I'm terrible at taking pills, the NuvaRing always fell out, and my acne was so sensitive to any hormones. Paragard gave me the heaviest and most painful periods ever (used a super tampon almost every 45 minutes). I switched to Skyla, and I've had the best experience. The insertion is not the easiest stroll in the park, but it's all uphill from there. My acne nearly disappeared, I don't have to pay for BC pills or condoms all the time, and I practically don't have a period anymore. Two days a month, I spot some and have some mild cramps, and that's it. Nothing a little ibuprofen can't help. :)"

For Birth Control "I got Skyla inserted about 6 months ago, and although I psyched myself out, it was absolutely painless. When the OB-GYN said she was finished, I asked if that was it, because the only thing I felt was pressure, and maybe a 1 in pain. What I hated most about it was that I spotted for about 4-5 months, and being someone that never spots, it got a little irritating. Since starting Skyla, I have gotten some random breakouts, especially on my chin, and I'm not sure if it's from the BC or if it's just natural because I would sporadically break out before, and although it's a bit more prevalent. Other than that, I feel like the hormones are having their way with me, but again, I'm not sure what % Skyla contributes to that and what % is just me."

For Birth Control "I got the Skyla IUD inserted in February of 2015 after having been on the pill 2 years prior. I wanted a form of birth control that cost less (I had to pay for my pills every month), and I wanted something more reliable than the pill. My gyno recommended the Skyla IUD to me, so I figured, why not. Best decision of my life, hands down. Insertion was painful, but I was prepared, luckily. Take some pain killers beforehand, and it should lessen the blow. Also, be prepared to rest that day and a few days after because you will be sore. I did spot constantly for about 12 days afterward, but I haven't had a period since!!! Life is so much better, and I'm so happy I got the Skyla IUD. I highly recommend it."

For Birth Control "This is just about the insertion because I feel it's my duty to quell the fears of other women out there after I let myself go way overboard in reading horror stories online and freaking myself out. I was prepared for the worst pain of my life based on what everyone was saying, and I can't believe how completely fine it was. Seriously, I would describe it as discomfort. I squeezed the nurse's hand really hard for a second and then it was over. Barely had any cramping afterwards. I know this isn't true for everyone, but it is probably way more likely that you will have an experience like mine, so don't freak out, please! It's a non-issue, don't waste energy getting stressed over this like I stupidly did."

For Birth Control "I had Skyla inserted 9/18/15. Never have I ever been pregnant. I was 26 at the time of insertion. Insertion was VERY painful. While the insertion was painful, it lasted only 2-3 minutes. I had slight pain for 3 days with MAJOR bloating. I spotted every day for 8 months. It was enough I had to wear a panty liner. Eventually, spotting stopped. My periods are irregular, when I did get one, I would bleed for 15-20 days. It was always dark, thick tissue that I bled. I had severe cramps not only on my period but randomly. Severe 8/10 pain. I just had the device removed 11/30/17. While it did prevent pregnancy, I had minimal side effects. The prolonged bleeding, the pain, and unpredictability of getting my period made me choose to remove it."

For Birth Control "I had previously been on birth control for two years. The last year on the pill, they changed it to continuous use due to the intense cramping/bleeding I experienced. I had been thrilled at the concept of having no periods until I started heavily spotting. For a majority of 9 months, I had one colossal period, and my OBGYN finally suggested trying an IUD (Skyla, to be exact). I am 20 years old and have never been pregnant. I had the IUD placed March 10th, 2015, and I have to admit the insertion was painful despite the ibuprofen I had taken, but also very quickly done. The pain has definitely seemed worth it, my cramps are now virtually gone, and my 'periods' are now constant and are VERY light spotting. Not to add, my PMS from BC is gone too!"

For Birth Control "I got Skyla inserted a little over a week ago. I'm 22 and haven't had any kids. The insertion was rough. My legs and hands went totally numb, which was weird, but apparently not uncommon. However, it was all over within about 3 minutes. The pain was completely gone before the feeling in my legs and hands had even come back, and I drove home with no issues. I actually didn't even feel any cramping until today (9 days after insertion). Did anyone else have a delay in the onset of cramping, or is that just me? Anyways, I've had a little spotting, but it all happened exactly the way that my doctor said it would. I'm fine, and this seems worth it. I have a low pain tolerance and the worst imaginable anxiety. If I can do it, then you can too."

For Birth Control "I have written on here twice before in the beginning of when I first got it inserted. If I could go back and not do it, I would. I've had the Skyla for 6 months now, and I am miserable. I have severe cystic acne everywhere (even though I never have), crazy bad cramps, insane mood swings, and weight gain. I'm 23, no kids, nothing. I've tried the pill, and I hoped this would work, but I am getting it out. Don't do it, your relationships and health aren't worth it, and it's a painful process."

For Birth Control "I'm 22 and nulliparous. I've previously used pills and NuvaRing, and didn't have bad side effects (except for no libido), but I wanted something long-term. I chose Skyla after discussing it with my gyno. She had me take misoprostol orally the night before insertion, and insertion was definitely uncomfortable, but bearable. I would recommend bringing someone with you to drive you home, because I had a 30-minute drive home and all I wanted to do was lie down. Had cramping the rest of that day and part of the next, but that's it. I've now had it for just over 2 weeks and LOVE it. My sex drive is back and I've had little to no cramping! I got my period a few days ago right on time and it's lighter than normal! Will update review in a few months."

For Birth Control "I had Skyla put in at the end of May this year, and I am very happy with the results. The insertion process was painful, but seriously only for 3 seconds. Very quick, and I was able to drive right after. I felt some cramping that day, but it was nothing a little Tylenol couldn't fix. I would highly recommend this type of birth control to everyone. Now that I have had it for a little while, I can't believe that I was taking regular birth control pills for years before. I can just get up and go now! Don't let the bad reviews scare you, because Skyla is so worth it! You should expect some cramping while your body becomes accustomed to it, remember the uterus is a flat cavity, so there's gonna be some getting used to. Give it a chance!"

For Birth Control "First off: don't let the horror stories scare you away! Everyone is so different, don't assume that will be your experience. I have had Skyla going on 3 weeks now (inserted 8/21/17), and it's awesome! After being on the pill (Generess) for 5+ years, it is such a relief to not have to take a pill. The insertion hurt for a whole 10 seconds, and then following was a VERY bad cramp, sort of like it was doing a final adjustment into place. After that, I cramped mildly for about a day and a half. I'd recommend having a driver if you live far away from your doctor, as your cramps may vary. Hormonally, I feel better than ever, libido and mood are better than ever! Hope this helps."
