"I am not doubting others have he issues, but cipro and levaquin are the only antibiotics I can take (I have severe allergies to others). When I have a sinus infection levaquin is a life saver. I'm so thankful for it. I do get a bit nauseous on it, but it's strong... I take with food, and if I get nauseous I eat crackers. It helps when other meds fail me. I just am concerned I will grow an immunity eventually. The drug does make me feel yucky initially , but it's like it's "killing" the infection, then I turn around. It is a strong drug, but me, my husband, my parents, friend, sister in law, nice have all taken it at some point and never had any major issues."

Levaquin (levofloxacin) "Trying out this medication for a severe ear infection. 10 days of Amoxicillin did not work so Doctor told me to take this. The side effects sound scary but the long term result of no ear infection should outweigh the other stuff. I will try and report my findings after the 10 day run."

Levaquin (levofloxacin) "41/F I had a serious sinus infection for over a year after having Covid — I took so many antibiotics that didn’t help at all — augmentin, doxycycline, amoxicillin, and a few others. Then they took several cultures that showed the bacteria citrobacter k. present, which is resistant to most antibiotics. I was put on Cipro for 20 days, then again for 14 days. Didn’t help much. The only other option for oral / non-IV antibiotics for this bacteria was Levaquin. I’m on Day 5 of 14 and already seeing a huge improvement, unlike any other antibiotic used. I’m hopeful it will eventually go away completely. I haven’t noticed any side effects, I have a physical job and I’m physically active and I haven’t noticed any issues with tendons etc. When I asked about the side effects some people get, namely the issues with tendons and joints, my physician said that is more likely if you’re overweight or over 60."

"Do not take Levofloxacin, do not take any chances!! In September 2016, I was seen by an urgent care doctor for a sinus infection. I get this type of sinus infection about twice a year. I explained to the doctor that amoxicillan always worked well and I did not have any side effects. She insisted that the levofloxacin would work much faster, so with reservation, I agreed to take it. Within 2 days I could not bend my ankle forward or backward and was only able to walk by sliding feet across the floor. It slowly went away after about 2 months. To this day I still have aching in the back of ankle and ankle is swollen. I am 62 and take prednisone, I don't know why this Dr would prescribe this to me."

Levaquin (levofloxacin) "I only took ONE Levequin, and within a 6 hour period, my back "popped" and felt as though it was going out. I'd say the warning about this medicine causing tendon/muscle weakness are highly accurate! My doctor agreed and changed my meds immediately...nothing like taking a $100 pill."

"I had a really bad sinus infection as a complication from the flu. At the end of 14 days Aug I still had some gunk so we decided to switch Levaquin was chosen. 500mg for 7 days. 6 hours after the first pill I had some weird leg pain around my ankle and my joints seemed tight. Because my doctor educated me I was able to immediately stop and get a new antibiotic 1. Listen to your body. If after one dose you feel off STOP IMMEDIATELY. It accumulates at the second dose and it’s much worse. 2. Based off of 3 medical opinions I should be in the clear in 48 hours after the dose but to treat the areas that have mild pain as an injury. 3. Levaquin metabolizes through the kidneys so If after one dose you feel icky start heavy fluids and 100% cranberry juice. Magnesium only helps if it’s still in your stomach or if you’re deficient. I’ll update in a few days to see if the opinions were correct."

Levaquin (levofloxacin) "I took Levaquin for a sinus infection. It cleared the infection but had terrible side effects. My heart was racing, pulse was like I had ran a marathon. It shot my potassium levels off the charts (had to take medication to flush my system of that)."

Levaquin (levofloxacin) "Seemed to clear up sinus infection but side effects were scary. Had anxiety and felt very cold. Then the shaking started, mainly legs muscles. Was resolved after about an hour by taking Ativan. Blood pressure was very high the next few days - can"t say for sure if that was related. Also had nose bleeds."

"They found a polyp and fluids in my sinuses that is blocking about 80% of my left sinus cavity. Took this medicine first dose last night at 7:00pm... didn't fall asleep until 4am, then had to be at work at 7! Very anxious, feels like I'm having heart palpitations and my left knee and leg feel a lot of pressure as well. (not sure why) my chest feels super hot AND THE WORST OF ALL the WORST acid reflux I have EVER had at night. I'm just hoping the pain is worth the results."

"My doctor prescribed this drug a year ago because of a nasty sinus infection. After 4 days of 500 mg/1 time day, I developed joint pain everywhere - knees, elbows, ankles, wrists, could hardly walk up and down stairs. I stopped taking the medication, but continued to notice weakness in my ankles. Four months later I developed debilitating PTTD, which is a failure of the tendon that holds your foot correctly. I am now in an expensive and uncomfortable ankle brace and facing surgery. I wish I'd never taken this drug."

Levaquin (levofloxacin) "I used this medicine for over 20 years for chronic sinusitis. The recent 3x I have taken it I broke out in hives all over my body that lasted for 2 hours. Has anyone else had a similar reaction? Not sure how after all these years I have an allergic reaction to something. Dr. gave me Sulfamethoxazole-TMP in lieu of Levoquin and I am scared out of my mind to take something new. I have a 11 year history of random allergies to food and medications."

Just wanted to give my experience ...I ate yogurt in the morning and afternoon and took a probiotic. I had none of the side effects but slight joint pain. Keep in mind everyone is different. Drink plenty of water. Blood test done yesterday and it shows I have a infection but no antibiotic touching it, This has been going on for 2 months. Have a CT scan on Monday."

"500 mg/1x a day for 10 days was prescribed for an acute sinus infection. I take Wellbutrin and bupropion for depression and anxiety--they manage my symptoms very well. Two days of the Levaquin had be in an agitated state such as I've not experienced in years I experienced insomnia--four hours sleep--and I am always blissfully able to sleep 8-9 hrs, falling asleep within minutes of laying down. This drug was poison to my brain. I also have a headache, muscle aches, and redness/rash. I called the Dr for a new drug after 2 doses and asked why in the world would she prescribe me something that has a known history of causing nervous problems?! I may change doctors over this."

"I had open rhinoplasty 4 weeks ago for a broken nose, 2 weeks after the surgery I developed a sinus infection, my doctor called in levoflaxon 500 mg 1 a day for 10 days. After taking them for 6 days my infection was gone but day 7 when I woke up I could hardly move the pain in my knees and hips was unbearable I hurt so bad, I took day 8 pill before I realized that it was the levoflaxon causing it, the doctor nor pharmacist told me about the side effects except it could cause insomnia and loss of appetite. I threw out the remaining 2 pills, it has been 3 days since I took them and the pain is better but my tendons are very stiff in my legs above my knees I am calling my doctor in the morning. This drug needs to be off the market!"

Levaquin (levofloxacin) "I was prescribed Levaquin for a sinus infection. I have a lot of sinus infections. I have been on quite a few antibiotics. I had an allegic reaction from Amoxicillon earlier this year. Hives and sores all over for 1 month. I am on day 4 of Levaquin and yesterday I had mild chest pains which went away after I took a dose. Maybe it was from the sinus infection. Have been sleeping ok though. Today my thigh bone has started hurting. Never has before. Will see what tomorrow brings."

"I went to an after hours clinic to treat my sinus infection. The doctor prescribed me 500mg of Levofloxacin at 1 pill a day for 5 days. I took my first dose that night and had horrible anxiety and heart palpitations. I fought bad nausea the whole night too. The effects lasted for 2 days after I took that 1 pill. The next morning I started to get strange feelings in my left leg. It's hard to describe but, it feels like a dull ache in your muscles. I also started to get an odd tingling/numbing sensation in my left leg as well. This feeling (obviously) alarmed me and I immediately stopped taking the medication. I took only that 1 dose, it's been more than a week now and I'm still having issues. I still deal with leg pain/numbness/tingling and now I'm getting a little of it in my left arm. Please don't make the same idiotic mistake that I did and READ about your medication before you take it. Be careful and DON'T take this or any antibiotic in this family unless there is no other choice."

"I was given levofloxacin for a sinus infection I had, had for three months. I had already taken zpaks, steroids, and augmentin. After the third day I did not sleep, and I take some pretty powerful medicine at bedtime. I went for three days before my body collapsed. When it did I wound up in the ER IN a massive muscle spasm. My entire body was locked up stiff as could be. I will never take this stuff again!"

"This medication will absolutely be different with each individual...no doubt. I hope more folks understand that with any/all medications have side affects; however, the benefits normally will outweigh the risks. Diagnosed with a sinus infection after an MRI on my neck. Let me make a long story short because my symptoms are too broad to go into details...750 daily po for 2 weeks. I'm extremely dizzy, I'm confused, I'm restless, I'm plain beat down. I've yet to see anyone on the highest dosage for sinusitis-except myself. Come on now_two weeks?..and I'm still coughing after one week. Mind you all, I take this med same time every day with pretty much all the symptoms most have experienced (but even more). Question: anyone w similar experience"
