For Endometriosis "My daughter (19) was given Lupron immediately after surgery to remove endometriosis. The doctor came to us right as she was in recovery and said she was giving her Lupron to suppress the cause. No explanation of side effects... how I regret it. She had to leave college... and the pain, weight gain, lack of concentration, etc. have been traumatic for us all. It takes YEARS to get this out of your system! I regret EVERY day that I let this happen to my daughter. I should have asked the questions, but I trusted the doctor."

For Prostate Cancer "I was given, despite having informed the Radiation Oncologist that I had absolutely no interest in receiving this castrating hormone. He didn't properly convey my wishes, and a VA Urologist ordered it anyway. It's been a complete and utter disaster. I have suffered night sweats, lost muscle mass, increased insomnia, testicular shrinkage, and lost libido. It should be emphasized that I had only intermediate-level prostate cancer after 11 years and, therefore, was not an appropriate candidate for this 'chemical garbage.'"

For Uterine Fibroids "I had the Lupron shot on 1st July 2019 for fibroids. It was fine for the first 2 weeks. Just slight breast soreness and general signs like I was gonna get my period. After the first 2 weeks, I started getting hot flashes, fatigue, and memory loss. Had a lot of problems recalling thoughts. I never bled since I had the shot, which was weird. I thought I'd get one last major period or something. I had surgery to remove my fibroid in early September. The fibroid never shrank. Guess the jab didn't work on me. I'm still getting the hot flashes, and the body aches, as well as fatigue, has gotten worse. I also gained weight! I found the drug increased my appetite. I still haven't gotten my period yet. Kind of happy about that but worried my hormones are all messed up. For reference, I'm 40 years old."

For Prostate Cancer "I have been on Lupron for 6 months (2 of the three-month injections). This drug is very effective in slowing the prostate cancer growth. Testosterone is the fuel for PC. My testosterone level went from 840 to 11 in three weeks after my first injection! However, there surely are side effects. Mine are: 1. Fatigue and low energy with breathlessness upon exercise. 2. Hot flashes. 3. Low red blood cell count (anemia). 4. Lack of sexual desire and unable to perform. 5. Shrunken testicles and penis. The side effects are frustrating...but you can tough them out. God has given me strength, and without my faith...this would be much tougher. My wife has been an angel with her constant support. Good luck!"

For Prostate Cancer "I was diagnosed in September 2016 with prostate cancer, and I have been on Lupron ever since. In between, I had 37 radiotherapy sessions. I have to be on Lupron for 2 years, but I would love to end it now. It has done okay at lowering PSA, but my QOL has suffered greatly, along with that of my dear wife. My mental health has taken a big hit with extreme depression and anxiety, and bodily I have no strength and no ED. It works great for some men without any side effects, but for others like me, they can be overwhelming. Best wishes to all on this journey. Kluff."

For Uterine Fibroids "Received one shot for three full months. Nearing the end. Major side effects were the hot flashes and some weird feeling of uneasiness. I would not take it again. Hot flashes are not cool. Just had an ultrasound and will be seeing the doctor soon to see if the shot was a success in killing cysts. The drug may work, but wow, all these side effects."

For Prostate Cancer "Nov. 2012, I had a double lung transplant. July 2014, I was told I had prostate cancer (this after several PSA's that never dropped below 4. My last was in the high thirties, and I had had 3 biopsies). Had a radical surgery in November, which included nerve scraping and removal of 11 lymph nodes. Post-surgery, I had no radiation but did have the long-term Lupron injections twice. I was cancer-free for a year, and now it is back. Started Lupron again, and the side effects are already out in full force (after 4 days). Because of my compromised immune system and the medications I must take for life, and kidney issues as a result of the lung transplant, I worry that the Lupron will not work. What would be an alternative treatment?"

For Precocious Puberty "My daughter was prescribed Depo Lupron when she was about 6 years old. I would never recommend it to anyone. She gained a lot of weight, became obese, has a lot of stretch marks, has high cholesterol, high sugar levels, sleep apnea, and uses a CPAP machine to sleep. She fights with me to binge eat. I am so sad, I feel guilty for using this drug. I wish I would have let her get her period, she would have only struggled for a little bit with that, than with a lifetime of health issues. Who cares if they stay shorter? Short is beautiful too, and even big is beautiful, but this med gives health problems that did exist. I feel like I scarred her for life :("

For Uterine Fibroids "Had a large pedunculated fibroid tumor on my uterus. The shot was administered, they found my fibroid got larger after 3 months. Had to have a partial hysterectomy to have it removed so I could sit, drive, and have sex without being uncomfortable or bleeding. I had every side effect, which was miserable. I had extreme hair loss (thinning), and I'm still trying to grow it back. This drug did not work for me. It has been over a year."

For Uterine Fibroids "I am 28 with a 21 cm x 13 cm uterine fibroid. I was told my surgery would be risky and would leave me with a scar from under my chest to my pelvic area. Since I am only 28 and would like to have children of my own, they decided to put me on Lupron for 6 months to shrink the fibroid by hopefully 50% and have a much smaller and less risky surgery. Went on the shot in June, with the first month being the hardest, with headaches, night sweats, hot flashes, and my first period being very heavy with lots of clots. But I am on my second shot, 2.5 months in, and I can say most of those symptoms went away. I only get hot flashes, which are definitely bearable."

For Uterine Fibroids "I was bleeding 24/7 and anemic due to a large fibroid. First, I tried Depo Provera shots, which didn't work. All bleeding stopped about a week and a half after my first Lupron shot. At this point, it's only been a month, so I don't know if I'll still need a hysterectomy."

For Prostate Cancer "Stage 2B prostate cancer. Proton beam therapy coupled with six months on Lupron. Dreaded getting the second 3-month shot. Side effects: Almost total loss of libido and sexual function within 30 days-lasting for several months post-usage; debilitating hot flashes (2X/hour, 24/7); 15 pounds of weight gain; 50% increase in cholesterol under the same diet; dangerous liver impact (GGT > 130) without alcohol use; significant breast growth."

For Precocious Puberty "I was diagnosed with precocious puberty when I was 8 and started getting a Lupron shot once a month. It stopped all signs of puberty except the mood swings, which often worsened in the week before I got a shot. After 3 years, I was taken off the medicine and started puberty normally. I had continued to grow taller throughout that time and am now 5'1". My grandmother and cousin both had precocious puberty as well, and neither were treated. They both stopped growing around age nine and neither reached five feet."

For Uterine Fibroids "I had very heavy periods. My doctor offered a Lupron shot. I decided to go with 2 Lupron shots hoping it would shrink my fibroid. Instead, my fibroid grew bigger. It caused me horrible headaches with the strongest painkillers not helping. After each shot, my period would not stop for a month (at least it was not heavy). Hot flushes were horrible. Good night's sleep was gone. I would wake up multiple times a night, all drenched in sweat. After the effect of Lupron wore out and my period restarted, it was as heavy as before. The only benefit I got was not having a period for a few months (with some bleeding in between), but at a very high price (side effects and actual price). I think, as heavy as my period was, it was better to have my period for a few days a month than have frequent very bad headaches and constant hot flashes. I would not recommend it based on my experience. I would not have it done if I had to decide today."

For Uterine Fibroids "I had the 3-month 11.25 mg on 3/30/2015 to shrink my giant fibroid to the size that the laparoscopic myomectomy can be performed. I had no symptom of side effects for the first month and also had my period, but ever since the second month (May), the side effects have been really hitting me hard; including hot flashes and night sweats. I had my surgery at the end of June, and my doctor confirmed that I had reacted to the Lupron more than expected, as the fibroid not only shrank but part of it was degenerated. So, instead of a 2-hour operation, it ended up being a 6-hour one. Now, it's been 5 months, and the Lupron is still lasting (period still not back yet); don't know when it will be gone..."

For Prostate Cancer "Hot sweats were the thing most mentioned and most noticeable. My apologies for lack of empathy to all those who I've known going through them. Muscle mass loss and decreased exercise tolerance. My total weight lifted in a usual workout fell to about 1/3. Dry scaling skin and increased dry hair. However, my creeping male pattern baldness was certainly less noticeable. Testicular size and libido took a hit."

For Endometriosis "I'm on day 48 of treatment and had my second shot on 11/04/2013. With the first shot, I bled 2 weeks prior and another 3 weeks after. After that, I haven't bled since. I'm being treated for lifelong (23 years) endometriosis. I have been disabled since 13 years old because of it. The only symptom I have had is severe non-stop hot flashes. I will have a hysterectomy in December."

For Uterine Fibroids "I developed several fibroids in my late 40s that caused very heavy bleeding. I opted for a hysterectomy and was given one shot of Lupron about 3 months prior in the hope that it would shrink the fibroids before I had surgery. I cannot say that it shrunk them (my uterus size was comparable to a 5-month pregnancy), but it did stop my periods immediately and that made it worth it to me. The only side effect I ever experienced was extremely painful cramps a few times (once so bad I had to pull off the road because I was driving). Still worth it."

For Endometriosis "I LOVE LUPRON. I have stage 4 endometriosis, and Lupron has been AWESOME. I have only had one side effect: hot flashes, which I do not mind at all, they only come twice a day and last for up to 2 minutes. Hopefully, my husband and I can have intercourse without pain. I'm 23 years old."

For Endometriosis "I was given the three-month injection in July 2012, with no mention of the potential side effects. I have been off Lupron for over one year and still have debilitating bone, joint, and muscle pain. I have had significant hair loss, short-term memory problems, and depression. My physical disabilities mean I will probably have to give up work. It is disgraceful that this drug was given to me with no discussion around these life-changing side effects. I'm worse now than before I started!!"

For Uterine Fibroids "I love that it completely stopped my outrageous heavy bleeding, which in turn made me anemic. So I am happy for that. However, the only side effect that I am experiencing is super dry skin on my arms, neck, and face... I feel it is aging me overnight. Some constipation, and not really hot flashes, but warm spells every now and then. Can't wait for surgery to get my hormones back to work."

For Endometriosis "Six years ago, I experienced severe pain caused by an ovarian cyst and endometriosis. I eventually had my cyst removed, but after a few months, severe pain returned. I was dying of pain most of the time, until I could not tolerate it any longer. In August 2008, I was given Lupron Depot. The first month was a nightmare for me, I thought I was dying because of extreme bleeding. After that one month, my body slowly progressed. For three months, I had a 3.75 mg dose, and after that, I was on 11.25 mg. I am so relieved that it has allowed me to live a normal life. I am pain-free, and fortunately, the side effects were not too extreme. My last shot was in March, and I was supposed to have it last June, but due to the unavailability of my specialist, I am waiting for my next step. So far, I am doing fine."

For Prostate Cancer "From the urologist, Lupron is a hormone to shrink the prostate prior to the x-ray treatments for cancer. I have lived with BPH for several years, and it did not shrink the prostate in my opinion. Subsequently, I learned from the oncologist it was for lowering the PSA, and it did lower the PSA. The hormone was injected in the right and left gluteus muscles with the predicted soreness that passed with time. Three months prior to radiation, markers were placed in the prostate. After the markers were placed, a second round of injections was required. This round resulted in a mistake, and the injection in the left gluteus resulted in the sciatic nerve being punctured, which has resulted in severe pain and soreness continuing to date."

For Prostate Cancer "I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in November of 2016. My PSA was 14.8, and my Gleason Score was 6. The good news is that the cancer did not spread outside the prostate and was in 9 out of 12 from the biopsy. I took Casodex for one month and had one Lupron injection, then started 44 treatments of radiation. Around treatment 20, my PSA went down to .09. After I complete radiation, I have one more Lupron injection to take, then that is it. No more cancer, I hope. The side effects are some hot flashes, weight gain, shrinking testicles, and frequent urination. After my next and last Lupron injection, I hope to be done with cancer."
