Itraconazole for Onychomycosis, Toenail "After a year on Sporanox, my badly infected and painful toenail grew out. Odd part is having the infected toenail and other minor medical conditions for 30 years, Sporanox cleared up many other conditions. The doctors said not possible, however, I know there is a connection. Heart arrhythmia, gone, non-healing nose/anal fissures, gone, facial/scalp/pubic psoriasis plus mucous membrane inflammation gone for treatment duration, but back after a year. A year later, the original nails were still clear, but a different nail infected with peeling, scaly skin across 1/3 of my foot. Strangely, it didn't get worse. Back on Sporanox. Seems to be clearing both conditions. The returning problems above also vanished when restarting Sporanox."

For Vaginal Yeast Infection "I used to have recurring yeast infections but not anymore. My doctor prescribed itraconazole, 2 tabs (100 mg) for 5 days. Then, to take 2 tabs during my periods for 3 months. I never get itchy down there anymore."

Itraconazole for Vaginal Yeast Infection "It worked wonders for me. I suffer from severe constipation, which causes thrush from time to time, and I would use the cream. After a few days, the infection would occur again. My doctor put me on Sporanox for seven days, one tablet a day, and it has not returned since I completed my treatment. That was over a year ago. This is the best yeast infection treatment, I would be an advocate for it."

Itraconazole for Oral Thrush "Took maximum dose of 400 mg for two weeks as other antifungals didn't work. My side effects were many: nausea, diarrhea, feeling sad, dry mouth, racing heart rate. I'm glad it's over and thrush is 100% eliminated. Works well, but I guess every drug has its side effects. Now, after completing the course, the side effects have all gone except for dry mouth, which I was told by the GP could be there for a few weeks after completion."

Itraconazole for Onychomycosis, Fingernail "I had a fingernail fungus. My PCP told me I'd have it the rest of my life. I was, at the time, in my 20s. In my mid-30s, I saw a dermatologist for a skin problem on my arm. He mentioned my nails and said, 'I know you can't help me.' He looked at it and said it would be gone in a few months. I was put on Sporanox and it was clear in a month. He kept me on it for a year. I am in my 50s and it's never been back!"

For Aspergillosis, Invasive "Was put on itraconazole after numerous other antifungal medications failed, and it was found that I have invasive aspergillosis. I’m a type 1 diabetic (aka immunocompromised), and so far, this is the only medication that has worked for this infection. I have yet to finish the course of medication, but I am already feeling so much better. I’m shocked because all other meds have failed."

Itraconazole for Vaginal Yeast Infection "I definitely recommend Sporanox because it worked well for me without side effects. My doc placed me on it for 7 days and then another 7-day repeat if symptoms persist; which it did. Upon completion of my 14 days (2 capsules once daily), I had no symptoms. It is now 2 going on 3 weeks later, and I haven't relapsed with any of the symptoms or anything indicating the yeast infection returning."

For Aspergillosis, Invasive "I was prescribed this medicine as I had become increasingly ill despite countless courses of oral and IV antibiotics and oral steroids. They discovered that I had aspergillosis, and I have now been on this medication for almost 18 months. I did try to stop it after about 9 months, as I was advised it was very toxic to the liver, but I became very ill again. It has quite literally saved my life, and I can recommend it based on my own experience."

Itraconazole for Onychomycosis, Toenail "One small nail had 100% infection while 2-3 other toes (including big toes) were slightly affected. After one month it was clear. Sporanox was very effective. Healthy nail growth was apparent. But I stopped using the medicine because of the side effects, namely the sense of abnormal heart and mental function (not unlike the effects of pseudoephedrine), together with headaches and tiredness. I tried Lamisil for one month, and the improvement continued, but I suffered from nausea, tiredness, and occasional headaches. Now I have just started Diflucan."

Itraconazole for Vaginal Yeast Infection "Just started the treatment with Sporanox (on the first day) after vaginal infection pill and fungal cream didn't work and had a lot of hypersensitive skin reaction. Now going without cream, just antiseptic rinse and some lotion on the affected area. I found it works wonders as the first day taking the pills. I shall report once again after completion of 7 days treatment."

Itraconazole for Systemic Fungal Infection "I've taken Sporanox twice in the last 20 years. Both times it was very effective. Both times I took it to clear up toenail fungus. The first time it had the added benefit of clearing up my iritis. I had a persistent iritis inflammation problem before using Sporanox and have not had a single case since. The second time it affected my heart in a seriously detrimental way. I was driving and had to pull off the road and pass out. I recovered completely but will never take this particular medication again. This drug is not to be used by patients with any history of heart disease."

For Onychomycosis, Toenail "Two tablets (100 mg each) of itraconazole twice daily for seven days. Then three weeks off medication, followed by a further seven days, followed by another three weeks off, and then a final seven days on itraconazole successfully treated my toenail fungal infection. My toenail has returned to normal. Absolutely no negative side effects reported and felt good taking this medication. 10/10."

Itraconazole for Onychomycosis, Toenail "I was prescribed Sporanox to take as a pulse therapy for a toenail fungal infection. Day 1 was okay. Woke up at night, thirsty and with a feeling of sand in my mouth. Day 2, small cough and breathing not 100%. Day 3, the worst nightmare of my life. Let me just say, I'm a healthy young person, running around 80 miles a month in addition to regular gym sessions. My resting HR is 45. Never in my life have I had even a headache. That day, I was extremely tired, coughing, the strongest headache in my life, constantly thirsty, literally thought the next stage was dying. It's day 5 (I stopped on day 3), and I still feel a headache and the lymph nodes behind my ears hurt very much for the second day in a row. I can't move my head too much without hurting. If you're thinking of taking this for a fungal infection in toes or fingers, consider a different therapy like laser options. It was too short of a therapy to see any effects, so I can't say if it would be effective, the side effects were too much."

For Onychomycosis, Toenail "I took one course of itraconazole (pulse therapy, 400 mg/day during 1 week), after being unsuccessfully treated for onychomycosis of my 5th foot nail (I had it for years). So, since terbinafine didn't help, I decided to use this one, as my doctor advised. Now I have my new nail growing healthy, so my decision is to continue the treatment with this drug."

Itraconazole for Coccidioidomycosis "I have had a cocci infection in my left knee for 25 years (research says it will be chronic). It took 5 years and 3 surgeries to get a diagnosis. I got relief the first day I started with Nizoral. After seven years, I switched to Sporanox 200 mg per day. Efforts to stop the therapy always followed with relapse. However, dropping to a 100 mg per day maintenance dose after another 5 years kept all swelling and symptoms at bay. In 2004, I was able to stop taking Sporanox and was symptom-free until last month (Sept 2011). Swelling and heat disappeared within a day of restarting Sporanox. Titer blood test results have varied over the history of my infection from 32:1 to negative to 16:1 to again being negative at this time."

For Vaginal Yeast Infection "This medicine has so far worked very well. My Dr prescribed it after the usual infection pill and cream didn't work. I've been put on a five-day dose, two capsules once a day, and so far the itching has completely subsided... I am much less uncomfortable than I was before I started the medicine. My Dr also prescribed two capsules on the first day of my cycle for three months to get rid of recurrence of the infection. It works wonders."

Itraconazole for Onychomycosis, Toenail "Took Sporanox for approximately seven months to cure complete infestation of toenail fungus (both feet/all toes). Sporanox had started to clear it all up when I ran out of the capsules. I was overseas and unable to get a refill. After stopping the medication for a period of time, the fungus returned to its previous state. Upon my return to the U.S., I did not pursue another Rx due to concerns over liver damage. But if your liver is healthy and you can take it for an extended period of time, Sporanox seems to be a very effective cure. Much faster than topical meds I've used since then, although, like I said, soon after I stopped taking Sporanox, the fungal infection returned to its previous state."

For Esophageal Candidiasis "Liquid form works amazing. I have some allergy to mold that affects my esophagus and breathing, in addition to eosinophilic esophagitis. Anyway, this drug is a miracle worker. As others have mentioned, it not only helped my breathing, but it improved my swallowing dysmotility by taking down inflammation to the point where I could swallow bread and full meals. I get bad when I am off of it again. Unfortunately, the anti-inflammatory properties stopped working over time, though, due to anti-fungal resistance. So I learned that with resistance, even the anti-inflammatory effects eventually stop working as you become resistant. My gastroenterologist thought it was quite interesting how this drug worked so well for me. Even now, I take it every 3-4 months for 10 days at a 400 mg dose as well, but although it doesn’t work as strongly as it used to, it still helps significantly. They seriously need to research it more. People here are saying it got rid of things they didn’t expect, I had the same experience."

For Dermatophytosis "This medicine does wonders. Tried so many creams and medicines before. None of them worked. Then my doc referred me to itraconazole 200. Within 4 days, my skin problem started to fade away. Now, after 2 weeks, it's perfectly cured. This medicine works perfectly."

Itraconazole for Onychomycosis, Fingernail "I've been taking Sporanox for 10 months now with no improvement. The fungus is visible in all of my fingernails and all of my toes! I am nearing the end of my second (6-month) treatment and still no results with this medication. Fungus has caused several toenails to curl and become ingrown, so very painful. Doctor won't remove the nails while infected with fungus because nails are too brittle to remove safely without risks of infection."

For Sporotrichosis "I'm a Canadian living in Mexico. After picking mangoes, I contracted a fungal skin infection called sporotrichosis. Got it diagnosed about a week after the symptoms started. I now have been taking itraconazole for just over a week. My dose is 400 mg a day, or two capsules twice a day. I'm happy with the results so far. It's a little slow to work, but it is definitely working. The skin lesions are healing, and it's not spreading to any more areas of the body. I know I'm gonna have to stick it out for a while with this medicine, but it is effective. The only thing is I've missed my period this week. I read another comment of a woman who said she didn't get hers for three months, so I imagine I'm gonna be in the same boat."

For Fungal Infection Prophylaxis "I am taking 200 mg OD for the last 20 days continuously because a fungal infection recurrence happened to me over the last two months. This time, since last week, I am feeling fearful, worried, and emotional. I found myself alone and want to cry. I am feeling defeated and lost in very small things and so much irritation with slightly unwanted behavior of my surroundings."

Itraconazole for Systemic Fungal Infection "I do not have enough good things to say about this drug. I (unknowingly) lived in a dwelling with high levels of black mold for several years. At one point, I developed a severe, dry, unrelenting cough that NOTHING would ameliorate. Visits to the ER and two pulmonologists showed nothing. Someone mentioned mold. I had some tests done on my home that came back with high levels of Stachybotrys and Aspergillus. I knew there had to be a connection. My PCP is an intelligent and open-minded doctor, so he agreed to let me try Sporanox for a month. OMG, two weeks in, I felt like someone had given me my life back. I ended up being on Sporanox for four months, but in that time, my cough, which two pulmonologists claimed was not caused by mold, went away and never came back. Severe pain in both sides of the lower jaw - gone. Severe ear pain - gone. Constant head pressure and headaches - gone. Gut issues - gone. An ID told me mold does not colonize in the body. Oh, okay."
