For High Blood Pressure "I started taking Irbesartan after learning of the increased incidence of gastrointestinal problems using Olmesartan. Unfortunately, like Losartan, Irbesartan did not control my BP well. It too rose to 220/100 taking 300 mg Irbesartan and 0.3 mg clonidine and 60 mg Imdur daily. I was taking Losartan at the maximum dose of 100 mg with clonidine and Imdur daily, it no longer was controlling my BP. It got up to 200/100. I switched to Olmesartan 40 mg daily, and within a day my BP dropped to 160/85, next day 140/80, then down to 119/64, and lowered the dose to 20 mg with 1 clonidine and 1 Imdur. I switched to Irbesartan to avoid GI problems. But I guess I'll have to take my chances with Olmesartan as it seems that's the only one that works."

For High Blood Pressure "I'm a 42-year-old female. I was put on 300 mg Irbesartan as a starting dose for high blood pressure. I have been taking just half this dose. I wanted to see if I could control my blood pressure on a lower dose first. I have noticed changes since using Irbesartan: 1. It has reduced my systolic blood pressure a great deal to a normal level. However, my diastolic reading is still quite high. 2. My periods, which have always been extremely regular, have suddenly become very irregular. 3. I have started falling asleep all the time, anywhere. I have never slept during the day in my life, so to suddenly find myself falling asleep in all manner of places and at any time, even shortly after waking in the morning, is very concerning. 4. My ears keep popping, which is odd and annoying. 5. I feel sad and wistful a lot, which is unlike me. 6. I have been feeling disconnected and numb. 7. I have experienced a total loss of libido."

Irbesartan for High Blood Pressure "Started taking Irbesartan (Avapro) from Lisinopril 8 days ago. The side effects are brutal, horrendous pain at the base of my skull and neck area, very intense headache, dizziness and disorientation, late-night fever 2 hours after taking medication. These are the most concerning side effects. Starting back on 30mg Lisinopril tonight."

Irbesartan for High Blood Pressure "I just started on 150 mg Avapro last week - Sept. 14, 2017. I can no longer drink coffee all day and night. I get a false angina pain, pinching. I was on Clonidine, which I liked, but my hair started falling out in large handfuls. Eek! Also, about 30 minutes into Clonidine, I had to take a nap. So far, this one is better, but my coffee intake is going down to 2 cups and only in the mornings now. I'm a little dizzy for a couple of hours after I take Avapro, but Clonidine was much worse, actually. I will see how it goes."

For High Blood Pressure "Been on Karvezide for 7 years and all my problems started pretty much straight away. I had a burning feeling in my hands and feet up my leg to the knee and dizziness, anxiety, stomach cramps, and eyesight changing all the time. I would go to the hospital to be told nothing wrong and carry on taking it. Well, I'm over it after reading reviews on here. I'm going to my doctor to tell him I want to stop taking this medication."

For High Blood Pressure "I took 75 mg to control spikes over 200 systolic. It did that. It also made me tired and mildly depressed. Then I started losing my ability to recall memories and experiences, which gave me nightmares. It was so bad I felt my personality was going away. I finally quit, and I started remembering things within two or three days. It made me emotional. My blood pressure is dangerously high, but none of the other drugs are a good alternative. They denied the fact that a physical problem could cause this, but my tests showed adrenal gland, kidney, and liver problems, as well as small blood vessels and a narrowed artery. Surely, repairing this stuff is a better option for us patients than certain dental causes by drugs."

"I have been on irbesartan for 8 years and usually have no problems apart from the usual lightheadedness when getting up. I developed a cough 5 years ago, which initially got me worried, but now it comes and goes. It gets worse on the change of environments-cold to warm and vice versa-or when I come in contact with dust, pollen, or some perfumes. I get fed up with it, but it keeps my lupus at bay, so I am happy to put up with it."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on Irbesartan for only two weeks, but have noticed a very pleasant change in stress level, and BP is under control as I have been doing 4 readings per day (for baseline and comparative) in order to see how it is working. This is an early review, but very positive so far from me. I will update after another 4-6 weeks, after my follow up with cardiologist. By the way, I am 59, have felt 'fight or flight' stress for the last 2-3 years. I have never had high BP (that I am aware of) but have also had symptoms of sleep apnea which can trigger A-Fib and Hypertension. More to come..."

For High Blood Pressure "My family has a hx of strokes and hypertension, usually starting at the age of 35. 35 came around and BAM! I have high blood pressure. I ended up in the ED with a hypertensive crisis. I was put on this medication starting at 150 mg daily, which didn’t make a dent. After a couple of weeks, I went back to my doctor, who increased my dose to 300 mg and included a water pill. This combo was the ticket, my BP is now in normal range. The only side effect I had was weight gain. I started at 5 feet 7 inches, 145, and have gained 20 pounds since starting this medication 3 years ago. I frequent the gym, eat right, and drink tons of water - the weight is mine to keep, but at least my heart is healthy!"

For High Blood Pressure "Was on 300 mg irbesartan and then went up to 150 mg. Side effects are still terrible. I thought it was just old age, but after reading these reviews, I realize it’s the medication. Time to get off and live as well as I can with no meds."

Irbesartan for High Blood Pressure "I have taken Avapro for years, and lately, my BP is over the top, so put on zircol. All this has been too much. I feel a new change is needed, as I have tiredness, sore muscles, bones, in fact, whole body. They say exercise, how, when you are so tired? When the pump goes to 230, I know I am in trouble. Thank you for your review."

For High Blood Pressure "I’ve been taking 150 mg Irbesartan with 12.5 mg chlorthalidone for about 2 months now. My blood pressure is just not as well controlled with the Irbesartan as it was with the 20 mg lisinopril, which I was taking previously. I have an appointment with my doctor in a couple of days to switch back to the lisinopril."

For High Blood Pressure "Irbesartan lowers the blood pressure pretty well but gives me heart palpitations along with body tremors and makes me tired. I also noticed my vision being blurry. I'm trying to give the medicine a chance, but if the side effects don't go away soon, I will not be taking this medicine any longer."

For High Blood Pressure "Hyperkalemia made me throw up, no appetite. Plus loin pain, back pain, taste aversion. I had to stop taking irbesartan for several days and take a diuretic to expel potassium. And cut the dose. My apnea is much better after the diuretic."

For High Blood Pressure "Taking this medication as the combination irbesartan + hydrochlorothiazide. After graduating from 150 mg to 300 mg dosage, I find this medication does no longer control my BP. Side effects are fatigue, stomach pain, and nausea. Unfortunately, I can't take calcium channel blockers as an alternative because of the painful side effects of edema."

For High Blood Pressure "Have been on irbesartan for 18 months. Was fine at first, but now hair is falling out, leg cramps at night, urination at 2 AM, scalp sores, heartburn, and diarrhea so bad that it caused bleeding hemorrhoids that ruptured. Even if irbesartan is effective in lowering blood pressure, these side effects are so stressful that it just cranks it back up anyway. Also heard that after 5 years, HCZ damages kidneys and can cause type II diabetes. I'm going to try daily beet juice and hibiscus tea and see if that helps as much as the studies claim."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on irbesartan 150 mg for 6 months now, and it is not helping. One day my pressure is 115/85, then goes up to 130/90. I have bad ringing in my ears (but I have learned from reading that the noise is really in your head). I am also tired during the day. Some nights I sleep 8 hours, and then some nights sleep 4 hours. This drug is not helping me at all."

For High Blood Pressure "My current dose is 300 mg of irbesartan for the past 6 months. Worst symptoms have been intermittent peripheral neuropathy - very painful, prevented me from walking barefoot. A rash covered my feet and the upper ankle - at times it was red, burning hot, and followed or concurrent with blisters covering the bottoms of my feet right up to my ankles, producing large patches of dry, tight, scaly, and extreme itchiness of exposed skin. I also have had gout-type symptoms of toes in one foot. This was diagnosed as ‘soft’ bones and treatment was Neurx-TF - which seems to help the neuropathy, maybe. I have tinnitus also. I am so alarmed after reading these reviews I plan on plainly stating my symptoms to my doctor instead of minimizing them - as the responsible retired medical person often does!"

Irbesartan for High Blood Pressure "Controlled blood pressure just fine. But the dizziness upon getting up was pretty bad. Had to urinate many times a day and during the night as well."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on this irbesartan medication for a month now for HBP. So far, I have random red rashes that are appearing over my body. Last week, I blacked out in a public place, needing an ambulance. Not sure if it's the medication, but I would like to go off the medication to find out. However, I have high blood pressure, so I don’t know if this is wise. I am having follow-up checks, but I am really wondering if it is related to this medication."
