Insulin regular for Type 2 Diabetes "I had high sugar levels for years and was in the hospital. An endocrinologist came in to see me and asked if I would like to try Humulin R. I did, and my sugar hasn't been high in months. I love it. I am feeling so much better than before."

Insulin regular for Diabetes, Type 1 "My options were to either pay the $306 for Humalog or wait and pay $25 for Novolin R. Novolin R, in my opinion, is unpredictable and must be used in small increments. It will keep you alive, but it will also make you feel slightly like a zombie at first. I believe you get what you pay for, and if normally insulin is hundreds of dollars, there's a reason Novolin R is sold for $25. Still, I'm grateful for the option until my health insurance clears up. I would just advise people to use extreme caution and not take over 6 units at a time. It takes sometimes 3 hours before the insulin even kicks in, so be aware if you keep taking more and more, it will have a rubber band effect, once it kicks in, you're sure to get low."

Insulin regular for Insulin Resistance Syndrome "I am a 60-year-old female and have been diabetic since my early 20s. I have been on several medications, and until this one, I couldn't get my blood sugars under control. I am overweight and my body is resistant, but 12 units of this drug and my sugars are great. A1C went from 7.8 to 6.1."

Insulin regular for Type 2 Diabetes "I have been on this insulin for about 3 years. As with everything, it works great at first and then seems to go back to having high blood sugars. We are going to try the pump next. I am so insulin resistant that sometimes it can be very depressing. Right now, I take Victoza and Lantus with the Humulin. With no diet changes, my blood sugars have been hitting the 300's. Unfortunately, due to a serious back surgery, I can't hardly walk and cannot exercise. I also experience weight gain on this insulin, so it's a catch-22. Take insulin to lower glucose, gain weight, so you have to take more insulin, more weight gain. Yes, very disappointing, but not saying this would be ideal for someone else."

Insulin regular for Diabetes, Type 1 "Novolin R...have to buy because it is the cheapest without insurance. I believe Humalog R is the best insulin to take, however, if it is over $100, while Novolin is $25. Asked my doctor for Humalog, will give me, however, the insurance company won’t pay for it! They make you get a generic insulin 'Admelog.' It is better than Novolin, however, not close to Humalog in quality and reliability. I agree with the first review, Cara, what she stated about Novolin kicking in later on, I have also experienced. I have had times where it doesn’t seem to absorb!"

Insulin regular for Type 2 Diabetes "Have been using Novolin R for about 10 years now and quite satisfied. You do want to talk to your doctor about using it, and you may have to adjust your dosage, which is true for every type of diabetic product. It does kick in a little later than other brands, and that is part of the adjustment that may be needed. Also, your body chemistry, weight, and food consumption will affect dosage. Talk to your doctor about how to adjust. The cost savings with this brand is huge, but you need to do some homework."

Insulin regular for Type 2 Diabetes "Started taking for a new pregnancy for the first time. It worked well for 1 day, the next day my sugars would not reduce well after a meal, and I watch what I eat like a hawk! Low carb, low starch, higher amounts of protein, and still it has not worked in 3 weeks. My numbers easily hit 175 after meals, and I’ve checked even 4 hours after, and it only reduced to the 140s. Not worth the price if it’s not going to work consistently."

Insulin regular for Type 2 Diabetes "I have been on Humulin R U-500 for about 3 months now at 120 units, and it has brought my numbers down between 150 to 250, which is better than it was before. I do not like how it makes me feel. After a couple of weeks, I started swelling real bad in my arms, hands, and legs. Sometimes when I wake up, my arms and hands hurt so bad and are so swollen that I can hardly close my hands. I have gained 20 pounds since I have been on it. I have been begging my doctor to change me to something else."

Insulin regular for Type 2 Diabetes "I have used a lot of pills and insulin over the years, but when I switched to Novolin R from Walmart, I had the best A1C tests of all. I never dropped below 7.3 with the other pills or Humalog or Lantus. My last two tests were 6.4 and then 5.3. I couldn't believe how well it was. Walmart also charges only $24.88 per vial whereas a box of Humalog or Lantus pens was $110 to $120. The vial is equal to 3.3 pens from a 5-pen box."

Insulin regular for Diabetes, Type 1 "I have been uninsured for about 5 years now. Novolin R has been a life-saver for me. I do not feel that Wal-Mart would open themselves up for suit if they thought the product was inferior. I have to eat right and not pollute my body. When I act right and take care of myself, my sugar readings stay in check. When I don't, I pay the price no matter what insulin. I highly recommend this product if you are uninsured. $28 a month has saved me."

Insulin regular for Diabetes, Type 1 "My diabetes has never been in such good control ever since I started using Humulin R U-500 insulin. I recently got an insulin pump, and this is the insulin that was used. The insurance I have now will not cover any insulin, so I had to stop taking Humulin R U-500 due to the fact I cannot afford the out-of-pocket costs. I am a hard-working woman with a good job, but because I am not at the poverty level, I am unable to get assistance with paying for this insulin. I have been off of this insulin for 2 days, and my blood sugars are rising 250-500. I need this insulin, and I need help in order to be able to start using it again."

Insulin regular for Type 2 Diabetes "Blood sugar had leveled out at 180 taking two other insulins combined 5 times daily. Switched me to concentrated KwikPen. Sugars are swinging between 177 and 390 throughout a 24-hour period. Taking an average of 20 more units than sliding scale recommends and still not helping."

Insulin regular for Type 2 Diabetes "In around 10 years of using this, I am overall happy with the results. The only issue I had was having unpredictable results for a period of time while dealing with long-haul COVID. Other than that, it works great for me."

Insulin regular for Type 2 Diabetes "WOW! I could not get Lantus and Humalog to lower my sugar. My Dr switched me to Humulin R U-500 and I am so happy. I am seeing much lower numbers now! I actually got to 116 the other morning. Amazing! I'm regularly seeing 140-180, post-meal sugar is still high, but lower than they were by 100 points or more and I'm starting to see a steadier line on my CGM. I am also still in the first month of treatment and am just being increased for the first time. I hope I get even better coverage. I am very happy with this insulin! I have not had any side effects. I was started on 80 units twice a day but I could titrate up to 90 each meal if I felt I needed to, I did. And I could take 20 at night for a snack. I was just increased to 80 before 3 meals each day, so I'm cutting my 2 larger meals into 3 small meals. My sugars used to stay up well into my next meal and well into the morning, they would just start to go down in time for my next meal. I'm happy this one is so much different now!"
