Hyzaar (hydrochlorothiazide / losartan) "I've been on for a week. I've never felt better. I've had an on and off fast heart beat and arrhythmia for 15 years, been checked multiple times by my heart doctor, always came back negative. I haven't felt this good since I was a kid. No more fast heart beat, no more chest pain or tightness. I feel relaxed and normal, a little thirsty but that's it."

"I was on lisinopril, but after a few weeks I developed the dreaded cough side effect. It took me over a month and a half to get rid of it. My doctor switched me to losartan. So far, it has worked great. No side effects other than drowsiness, but that's okay with me. I take it at night, and it helps me sleep. Helps with my blood pressure and insomnia, kills two birds with one stone. Most of all, I'm just happy to get rid of that lisinopril cough. That was making my life miserable."

Hyzaar (hydrochlorothiazide / losartan) "While it is effective in lowering blood pressure, I have experienced side effects, to include ringing in the ears, dizziness, rapid heart beat, odd muscle pain and slightly elevated liver values. I also experienced rapid weight gain when switched to a generic version of the medicine."

Hyzaar (hydrochlorothiazide / losartan) "I have been taking Hyzaar for 6 years without any side effects. My prescription co wanted me to change to a different medication. They said there is not a generic, but thanks to drugs.com, I found out there is a generic. Thank you for all the help when we need it."

"Nothing works better for me. I ran out and couldn't get a refill because I moved out of state. I tried lisinopril 20mg and it did not hold my pressure down. After monitoring it myself with a reading of 202/110, I ended up in the ER. Why I didn't have a headache, I don't know. I am now back on losartan/hydrochlorothiazide 100/25."

Hyzaar (hydrochlorothiazide / losartan) "I have had uncontrollable high blood pressure and hypothyroidism for over 15 years. All the different blood pressure medications the doctors have given me never came close to how well Hyzaar works. Not only has my blood pressure been lowered to near-normal (used to run 190/120) but I have also lost over 25 pounds of fluid from the hydrochlorothiazide. Nothing but high marks for Hyzaar. No bad side effects. I feel the best I have felt in a long, long time!"

"For those who are having terrible leg cramps on BP medication. I had the same horrible problem to the point I was screaming my head off at times and could not walk. It was the HCTZ diuretic portion of my BP med that was causing it, not the Losartan part. This will be the same for any BP med that is blended with a HCTZ diuretic because Triamterene did the same thing. Since I don't really have any medical need for the diuretic, my doctor simply wrote me a script for the Losartan without the diuretic in it. Voila! No more leg cramps! And my BP is still under control."

"I took the lowest dose of lisinopril available for 3 years before developing the dreaded cough. My doctor switched me to losartan 4 months ago, again the lowest dose. After one month, I started having intense leg cramps. When the bad cramps began affecting my rib cage if I just turned awkwardly, and the horrendous leg cramps kept me from sleeping, I quit taking the losartan (9 days ago). Within 48 hours, all these symptoms completely disappeared. I googled and found others had the same problem. I'm 55 and felt worse than my 81-year-old dad. Now I feel 55 again! I'll see my doctor next week, but I'm worried about any BP medication now."

Hyzaar (hydrochlorothiazide / losartan) "I have been using this medication for almost 12 years (50/12.5). My blood pressure was okay, and most of the periodic blood analyses I made were okay, never had noticeable side effects. For almost 10 days now, my BP is 150/100 and is not decreasing, although I am taking the medicine. The work doctor said that my body might have adapted to the medicine, so I am seeing a specialist today to see what to do."

"I started using Lisinopril HCTZ and had muscle aches, a lower desire for sex, but the blood pressure was under control at 110/80. After reporting to my doctor, he suggested Diovan HCTZ. I started losing a lot of hair, but my sex drive got much better. I met the doctor again and was concerned about my hair loss, as I read that the majority of Diovan users lost hair. I switched to Losartan HCTZ 50/12.5 mg, and the blood pressure was under control and the best since I started taking blood pressure medication. In the morning is the best time to measure it, prior to taking the pill, as it's 24 hours after taking the pill. This pill is the most effective for me. I know it's only a week, but I had a couple of coughs and a couple of instances of slight lightheadedness."

Hyzaar (hydrochlorothiazide / losartan) "Be careful with this medication. I caught a bad cold almost a year ago and have been having respiratory issues ever since. I have been diagnosed with asthma and put on the max dose, which has helped a good bit, but I still feel like this medication caused me to have respiratory issues. The doctors can't find anything wrong other than the asthma. I wish I would have done my research before starting this medicine. I have stopped this medication and will be starting organic medications tomorrow. I am hopeful!"

Hyzaar (hydrochlorothiazide / losartan) "I've been on this medication two times now. Both times it's helped lower my blood pressure. I was able to come off of it for about 2 years when I got my blood pressure under control and was keeping it that way, but recently my blood pressure has gone back up, so my doctor put me back on this medication. My prescription is for the generic brand. I have used both the name brand and generic, and I couldn't tell any difference, only the price was different. I've had no side effects from this medication, it's worked very well. I would recommend it."

"After about 2 weeks on this medication, my BP has lowered tremendously, but the small side effects so far seem to worry me, from muscle weakness, shortness of breath, and lots of confusion and memory loss!"

Hyzaar (hydrochlorothiazide / losartan) "While Hyzaar did lower my blood pressure to normal levels, I suffered from a respiratory problem typically at nighttime with a gasping-for-air reflex several times a night. Effective drug, but for me, a scary side effect."

"I have been on this medicine for at least 10 years. It controls my BP beautifully. I drink coffee with no problem and even Diet Mountain Dew. I have no reaction with the sun either. For my body, this is a great medicine. No side effects at all."

"Was on losartan/hydrochlorothiazide 100/12.5 mg for over 3 years...lowered b/p but had a terrible hacking cough and developed asthma in those 3 years while taking daily. Just stopped it per doc's instructions and the cough has finally gone away. Increased hydrochlorothiazide to 25 mg and no losartan at all. B/p lower but not as low as it was on combo. Will continue to monitor, but very happy not to be hacking up a lung anymore."

"My doctor put me on benazepril, and I started having a dry cough. That then turned into wheezing and insomnia. He put me on losartan-hydrochlorothiazide, and my blood pressure is down with no side effects. I am also noting that swelling has gone down in my feet and my back pain has vanished as well. I've been on it for a little over a month, and I am thrilled with the results so far. My insurance also covers much more of the cost than the old drug I used, so that's a plus too!"

"Took 12.5 mg at bedtime for 5 months. Felt like I was going to jump out of my skin. Made me very anxious. Chest and back pain. Did not do much for blood pressure but was on a low dose. Glad to be off this medication."

Hyzaar (hydrochlorothiazide / losartan) "Just started taking this a few weeks ago, and it's already working for me. Blood pressure went from 200/92 to 140/79 when last checked. Slight feeling of lightheadedness at first, but gone now. Also take ibuprofen with no side effects."

"After being on losartan potassium 50mg per day for close to a year, it did slightly decrease my blood pressure; however, I just recently acquired an allergic reaction to it. My lips look like two swollen water balloons. Went to the doctor, and he took me off of it. It's been close to a week off of this drug, and my lips still look like day one of my allergic reaction. I'm told this is a rare symptom, lucky me. The doctor offered to put me on prednisone to help with the swelling, but prednisone gives me worse side effects. Suffering through it. Very painful. The doctor gave it a week for the swelling to go down; if not? Luckily, my tongue nor my throat swelled up, but still scary nonetheless. Be warned."

Hyzaar (hydrochlorothiazide / losartan) "I have been on Hyzaar 100.25 for 2 months, and it has proven to be the most effective of all the other blood pressure medicines I have taken over the last 6 years. I also take a 10 mg Norvasc with it every day. I have experienced no side effects. I love it."

Hyzaar (hydrochlorothiazide / losartan) "After trying organic and holistic alternatives for a year with no success, I went to a Dr. who prescribed Hyzaar 50 mg. I've been on it for 6 weeks, had my 2nd visit today, and the Dr. said the approximately 10% improvement was all I could expect and immediately prescribed a 2nd BP med. No discussion of increasing the dosage, just another med. I'm disappointed in the Dr. more than the med."

Hyzaar (hydrochlorothiazide / losartan) "I have had high blood pressure for over a year and just started taking Hyzaar 2 days ago, and already my blood pressure is 125/75. This is at least a 20-unit drop in each number, and I have not experienced any side effects yet. I feel a lot better."

"I have been on losartan for two and a half years. It has lowered my blood pressure to 130/80. I also have kidney disease, and my reading of GFR was initially 59, but now it is 47, and it has damaged my kidneys. I also noticed my body takes longer to heal and muscle loss."

"Sure. It has lowered my BP but at a cost. I have gained 7 lbs in 2 weeks, short of breath, only want carbs, constantly hungry and thirsty. If I am not constantly eating, I am shaking, indicating low blood sugar. I am not lazy. I do strength training as well as cardio at least 3 times a week, and up until taking hydrochlorothiazide with losartan, I could watch my diet as well as had the metabolism of a person much younger than I. I hate this drug. Demanding something better if I have to go completely natural. Horrid drug, horrid past. Nope."
