"I’ve been on flurazepam for 10 years. I began with 30 mg and titrated myself to 15 mg, all I needed. In 2020, when my pharmacy told me it was not available, I phoned Mylan, my physician phoned the two suppliers: Cardinal and McKesson. I was able to get 30 mg only, no 15 mg available, through a family-owned pharmacy. CVS pharmacists said they have no ability to order a drug when the drug is not “in their system,” in other words, the corporation shows it as available or not. After phoning all major pharmacies, I felt lucky to find a pharmacist at the family business who said, “I can order it, sure. Just add another Rx, I won’t order only a controlled substance for you.” I added my thyroid, the only other Rx I take. Everything was fine until June 2022, it’s unavailable again. Forever?? I have now tried nearly all other sleep drugs, and I’ve laid awake many nights, had dull headaches, felt like I’m out at sea walking to my own kitchen. Living a nightmare."

"Previously, I had been on Flurazepam for 22 years with zero side effects. I have been very successful with starting 2 businesses, authored a great book, traveled around the world building churches and medical clinics. However, with big Pharma discontinuing the production of Flurazepam, my doctor has thus far prescribed 4 different sleep aids, including one for high blood pressure and another for the repair of nerve damage. I feel like I'm crawling out of my skin. So many side effects, if they don't find a sleep aid that has no or little side effects, I don't want to go on like this any longer. They've been prescribing different medications for me for over 3 months."

"I have been on this medication for 30+ years. Can't believe it's not available right now. They say December time frame, the doctor put me on something else. Doesn't work. Hurry on flurazepam, please. Very satisfied customer."

"Very effective med for insomnia. But, as the previous poster mentioned, it is impossible to obtain. No pharmacy carries it, and since only one company manufactures it, they set the price at an insane high amount. Ridiculous."

Dalmane (flurazepam) "I had taken Dalmane for 35 years before it was discontinued last year. I live in the UK and my pharmacist was able to order it from the middle of January this year (2024), and I'm now having a long and restful night's sleep."

"First of all, I am very allergic to most drugs. I have been taking flurazepam for insomnia for 3 years, since my son, who is a pilot for a commercial airline, was diagnosed with cancer for the second time, my daughter quit speaking to me, and I had a horrible reaction to a glaucoma eye drop, Lumigan. All of this stress at one time sent me into a state of insomnia. I was prescribed flurazepam and did well on it. Now I am on temazepam and it’s not working. Help bring back flurazepam."

"I have been on flurazepam 30 mg for 15 years. I found out two days before my cruise that they no longer made this medication. This was over 2 months ago. I am going through severe withdrawals, and my doctor keeps prescribing me benzos, which do not work. I have the shakes, I do not remember the last time I had any sleep, and I am irritated all day. Why would they make people go through this? I am 64 years old, this is the most horrible thing I have ever been through. The doctor cannot find anything to replace it because flurazepam was only one-quarter benzoid, it had a sedative in it. This is why nothing else works."

"I see that I am not the only one to contact a lawyer. When I learned it had been discontinued without notice to the public, doctors, or pharmacists, I requested a class action through the class actions website. Maybe enough of us did this to get them to bring it back and help people find it in the meantime. However, now they tell me there is another month's delay! I have very bad trigeminal neuralgia that is helped ONLY by sleep, and it is hard to get by with only one pill a night. Now I have only enough for one a night until December 20. I have asked my doctor to prescribe temazepam, although we tried it years ago, and it made me feel knocked out and anxious the next day, and I see that it doesn't help others sleep. We are all victims of the manufacturer, Mylan. Maybe we should have that class action after all, although I wonder how I will survive to see it."

"I have been reading all the statements about flurazepam not being available. My experience mirrors most of the statements. This has been so very hard not sleeping. To make matters worse, I was put on a CPAP machine. We have even purchased a sleep number bed, trying anything to relieve my insomnia. I have gotten some relief by taking gabapentin and amitriptyline with melatonin. I take extra melatonin after an hour or so of not being able to sleep, and I have been getting some relief. My memory has been altered. My doctor even ordered an MRI of my brain to make sure something else might be causing my problems. I have made multiple trips to the pharmacy to see if flurazepam is available. Temazepam doesn’t work for me at all. This has been hard on my marriage. My fibromyalgia seems worse without flurazepam. I feel Mylan has done a terrible injustice to all of us! I’ve been told my insurance won’t cover flurazepam now??? Why?"

Dalmane (flurazepam) "Dalmane is a good medicine for insomnia because it works quickly and lasts a long time. Due to its long half-life, it also gives anxiety relief for the next day. I also notice I can go to bed easier the next night without taking another dose. It does leave a metallic taste in the mouth and can build a tolerance, but as long as you are careful, it can give restorative sleep. Also, because it is so old, this medicine is cheap for those of us paying with cash. I wouldn't recommend it long-term because of the consequences involved with long-term benzodiazepine use, but this is a sleeping pill that current manufacturers can't match."

"Never had any side effects. It helped with sleeping and anxiety. Then they stopped making it, and the withdrawal was very hard. Now they're making it again, and it's impossible to get! I don't understand it. I want to go back on it. I'm scared that they'll stop making it again. Supposedly, they're making it, but nobody carries it, and then it's so expensive that no one could afford it."

"I finally got a refill for 15 mg after 4 months. I take two at bedtime, but it doesn't seem to put me to sleep as the one they made before. I don't know if the formula is the same. This is very frustrating."

Dalmane (flurazepam) "I have only been on Dalmane for a few days. Actually, I have only needed to take it like three times (not in a row) because it is so powerful that I'm actually tired in the morning, but a good kind of tired. Restoril, I would wake up between 3-4 a.m. wide awake, like I slept for 15 hours when it had only been 4 hours! I like the fact that I do not need to take it every day, which is an added benefit for me! I agree with the previous posts, it does give me a calmer effect in the mornings. I actually sleep throughout the whole night, and I do not have a 'blackout' effect that I have with other sleep medications, where I do not remember what happened during the night if I did anything... not my thing! I had no idea it was an old medication."

"I have taken flurazepam for over 30 years for chronic insomnia. I take it a few hours before bed, it's a slow effect but works. I found out my biggest problem is anxiety, so the doctor put me on mirtazapine, and that works very well for most nights. But if I had a very bad, nerve-racking day, I have more confidence in flurazepam and take it. Now it's hard to get. I'm 64 and have been on it periodically for over 30 years, and now they want to stop it. Really makes me mad."

"Like others, I have tried MANY different sleep meds and only Flurazepam has helped me get a good night's sleep. I was using 30mg capsules, and I would split them into 3 or 4 capsules so that I would use about only 10mg when I needed it, and it was very effective and non-addictive. I hope it's available again now."

Dalmane (flurazepam) "With all benzodiazepines, you tend to build a tolerance, which is why it is only recommended for short-term insomnia treatment or to be taken as needed. I do have to say that when used as needed, this medicine hit me like a Mack truck and I would sleep 8 hours plus. My anxiety and insomnia both improved significantly. No hallucinations or late-night grazing like with those so-called 'non-addictive' 'non-narcotic' sleep aids. Word of advice: make sure you take it if you can sleep for at least 8 hours and set multiple alarms."

"I have been taking Dalmane-Flurazepam-for over 25 years. It has made an impossible life of panic attacks and phobias possible again. Now, since it has been gone, things have been so awful! I found out through Mylan, who, by the way, has been kind and helpful with information on release! I went to the pharmacy today, and they were surprised it was back. I should be able to pick it up tomorrow. Here's the glitch: my doctor informed me, whereas he has no problem with me taking 2 a night since my regular dosage was 30 mg. The FDA will not let him prescribe any sleep medicine now for more than one pill per night. PLEASE don't ever let this happen again!!!"

"Well, once again, we are no longer getting flurazepam, this time for 10-12 months. It has always worked for me, and during the last shortage, I went through terrible withdrawals. I can’t do that again, as it was so hard on me last time. I have sought the help of a doctor that specializes in detox, and I am doing much better than I had anticipated after the last time (I still have PTSD). But I highly recommend finding a doctor that can help you and use the Ashton manual so that you never have to go through this again!!! By the way, I believe the reason for the shortage is that Mylan (the original manufacturer) has discontinued producing it, however, another company is in the process of applying for the patent and will be able to begin production later in 2023. I wish you all the best with this. Stay strong and please consider discontinuing the use of this drug, as it is not easy to find a supplement that can work as well as flurazepam!"

"I took Dalmane for over 40 years. When taken off the market in 2019, my doctor put me on temazepam and zolpidem, neither of these were any good. I then took Tranxene until I was able to get back on flurazepam 30 mg. In April 2020, not the same medicine as before, only get 3 to 4 hours of sleep."

"Flurazepam is a wonderful sleeping pill; I took it for 29 years; it always worked and had no side effects for me — I'd wake up refreshed and feeling calm; never had any problems with memory loss, dizziness, or anything else. I'm having a terrible time now that it's not available. I called Mylan a few days ago, and they've moved its availability date back to January 2020. I tried temazepam (Restoril) once and couldn't walk around without holding on to the walls and furniture."

"OMG. I have been a chronic insomniac for over 20 years. The only drug that helped me was Dalmane. I had no side effects whatsoever, and I got a decent night's sleep on 15 mg. I rarely took 30 mg. I was on it for about 6 months and had no side effects coming off it. Last year, I tried to get it again, and the doctor said he wasn't allowed to prescribe it anymore and gave me Xanax because the normal sleeping tablets do not agree with me. Now the Xanax doesn't work, and I so want to go on the Dalmane and can't get it. It's so frustrating. I'm so exhausted all the time. I'm at my wit's end. I found Dalmane just perfect for me..."

"I too have used flurazepam to help me sleep for probably close to 20 years. At my PCP's suggestion, I started with 30 mg but cut back to 15 mg because I felt I didn't need the full 30 mg. I've never felt 'hung over' using it. It's been a lifesaver for me. I don't use it daily, only when needed, but it never fails to get me to sleep. Sleep deprivation is a terrible thing to endure chronically; this drug has made my life so much better. It doesn't seem fair to take away something that works so well for so many people. I have 60 pills left and am hoarding them."

"I'm back drinking alcohol. Because the discontinuation of Flurazepam, this drug kept me off alcohol for 18 years. I lost hope with doctors! Giving me diazepam, temazepam, Xanax, zolnod and zopiclone! All hopeless!!! I might as well damage my old insides with alcohol!!! Mylan, are murderers!!! And being from the Republic of Ireland, I know there's no chance of any help!! I'm totally despondent!!! Dalmane/ Flurazepam always helped me with panic attacks, sleep deficiency, and it got me off alcohol 18 years ago! Now I'm destroying my health because of Mylan and the lies about Flurazepam/ Dalmane, coming back! I don't want doctors telling me what to do! They are incompetent! Alcohol is my old prescription! What a dangerous cure!!!"

Dalmane (flurazepam) "I was on Dalmane for over 25 years. I have had always problems sleeping. My husband was transferred many times, and I went to different doctors for my meds and Dalmane for sleeping. Not one doctor warned me that if I ever stopped taking it, I would have a problem. It was fine... helped me sleep! Then it all stopped! It was discontinued! Wow! I was NEVER so sick in my life. Shaking, nausea, thinking I was in a panic, trouble driving. Horrible! Dalmane could not be found! The pharmacist recommended Temazepam. It only let me sleep 3 or 4 hours! Still the shaking and finally had to try .05 Xanax during the day. After two years, I am still not right!"
