For Colorectal Cancer "I had a bad side effect from this drug, got chills, my kidneys about shut down, had heart problems, skin got red as I ever seen it. The oncologist knew this was going to happen, so I felt he was using me as a lab rat. Hard to trust any of these drugs today or the doctors. I guess that's why they call it a practice."

For Stomach Cancer "I have been on 5FU for 19 months in combination with Herceptin. My cycle is every two weeks. Initially, I also had Oxaliplatin, but I had trouble with neuropathy. My oncologist expected me to pass in six months to two years. After 19 months of treatment, she said, 'To be brutally honest, I did not expect you to still be here.' I am still reasonably healthy, eat well, and maintain my weight. My only real problem is that Herceptin is affecting my heart rhythms. I have the HER2+ protein, and my cancer has been found in my liver. I have had two CT scans, wherein I have had a partial response. The rest of my CT scans have shown a stable condition. Scans are conducted every three to four cycles. I am confident that I will make the two-year and more timeframe for my life. My oncologist and cardiologist are a good team! During my ordeal, I have also had to have a pacemaker installed and may yet have to have it removed and replaced with an ICD. 5FU and Herceptin are working."

For Colorectal Cancer "As other reviewers shared, this drug causes severe side effects - and for my mother it was because she was not tested for DPD deficiency before her infusion. Had she been tested for DPD deficiency before treatment, she would have been given a lower dose, and then she would be alive today. DO NOT TAKE this medication (5FU) without the results of a DPD deficiency test. This is a DPYD gene test that can be done by blood draw or spit depending on where you get your cancer care. Don't take no for an answer - get a DPD deficiency test before infusion. Dosage can be reduced based on your enzyme function per CPIC guidelines for DPYD. The Association for Molecular Pathology also just published guidance for labs with which variants should be tested for the DPYD gene. Patient knowledge is powerful."

For Colorectal Cancer "I had a heart attack after using this product. I was in the cardiac unit for 4 days and ended up having an angiogram. My heart was not blocked, it was this drug."
