Fludrocortisone "I cannot cope without this wonder medicine... I love living a natural life, but I have found that this medicine is the difference between survival and quality of life... vs. just hoping to make it through the day."

"Blood tests showed low aldosterone (hypoaldosteronism), which had been causing dizziness, so the doctor added 0.1 mg of fludrocortisone in addition to the hydrocortisone to combat fatigue associated with adrenal insufficiency. Slight headaches occasionally, but blood pressure is still very normal overall."

"Been on fludrocortisone for two weeks, and my low blood pressure is much better, but I do have trouble swallowing, and my eyes tear a lot. But I'll take that to stay out of ER, as I was going at least once a month when my pressure would drop very low."

"I have Addison’s disease. I always took hydrocortisone, it barely gave me back my life, but I relied upon it. Took fludrocortisone 0.1 mg as a new prescription 1/2 am & 1/2 pm. Right away, it made me feel very dizzy, spinning around constantly like vertigo, nausea graduating to dry heaves to vomiting, my eyes felt like they were bulging out of my skull with eye/head pain, whiteouts, and lastly, I lost feeling or sensation, everything was numb. I have been off meds almost a week, and I still experience side effects. I did have more energy or feeling like a normal person, but with all these constant reactions, I was better off staying on hydrocortisone 30 mg per day."

"It works really well, but they are taking me off prednisone, so it doesn't have the same effect."

"Seems to help somewhat with adrenal insufficiency, but hydrocortisone is more effective. I still pass out occasionally."

"I was diagnosed with Addison's Disease in 1994 (30 years ago, unknown origin) after being ill with no effective treatment for about 9 months. My dosage has increased slightly over the years from 0.1 mg to 0.15 mg daily. I have never had an 'Adrenal Crisis,' but blood pressure is on the rise as is cholesterol and sugar. I know this disease and the side effects from long-term corticosteroid use will take me earlier than most people. But if you're just starting out and are down about having this disease, I assure you this drug is a lifesaver, and that you can live a long and active life. I am and always have been very physically fit, served/fought with/and retired as an operational member of a highly tiered unit in the US Army after 22+ years, and then went on to retire from a 15+ year career as a Firefighter Paramedic in a busy urban 911 system. I'm 59 now and you'd never know I'm sick and living on borrowed time. Develop a good relationship with your docs and don't look for pity."
