For GERD "Took this medicine for GERD. After 1 week, I started getting constipation, anxiety, heart palpitations, and muscle weakness, dizziness, and nausea. I felt bloated all the time and I couldn’t eat. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone."

For GERD "I have possible GERD, definite excessive acid in the stomach, and I am furious that my GI doctor prescribed this famotidine, considering most of the side effects are what I'm taking Protonix for. I took two tablets within three days of each other. The first one made me almost instantly nauseous and constipated, along with excessive fatigue, feeling like I have the flu, and acid reflux. I tried it one more time two days ago, and I have abdominal pain so bad that I spend most of the day in bed crying. It can also elevate liver enzymes, I have MCAS, and mine are already elevated. I feel like it is really damaging me, and I'm going to the ER tomorrow because I don't know what else to do. This is the worst drug I have ever experienced."

For GERD "I was taking 40 mg of this poison for about a year at bedtime, as prescribed by my gastroenterologist. A few months ago, I decided to take 20 mg during the day and 40 mg at night as a preventative measure for GERD symptoms. Worst idea ever! I took the 40 mg pill, ate at a restaurant, felt like I was having a panic attack on the drive home, and vomited as soon as I got home. Then, the next weekend, I did the same thing and took 40 mg with food and 2 glasses of wine. I woke up in the middle of the night with a racing heart, shaking, nausea, and eventually projectile and continuous vomiting. It’s been a month now since I’ve stopped taking it, and I still have residual anxiety. I have also been on Zoloft for years, and my GI doctor knew this and still prescribed famotidine to me, even though serious heart issues can be a side effect of combining these 2 medications. I know I should’ve done my research on drug interactions, but shouldn’t the doctor know this stuff too? Never again!!"

For Hiatal Hernia "Very bad experience with this drug famotidine. Almost instantly, I started having side effects: very severe headaches, dizziness, and nausea. I also had very bad cramps that led to diarrhea. Only minimally helps with GERD and acid reflux-related diseases."

For GERD "Took this medicine for GERD. After 1 week, I started getting anxiety attacks, heart palpitations, muscle weakness, dizziness, and nausea. I felt bloated all the time, and I couldn’t eat. When the insomnia symptoms escalated, like I’d drank a pot of coffee, it was intensely scary. Even 24 hours after my last dose, I still don’t feel well. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone."

For Indigestion "My doctor prescribed this for me for nausea and acid in my stomach. I took 1 pill and I could feel it in my stomach. For the first 20 minutes, I felt a burning, cool sensation, like a tingly feeling in my stomach. Then I couldn't eat my food but a few bites because I was so nauseated for the entire day and night and half of the next morning. I was extremely nauseated even after taking 3 anti-nausea pills, and I had stomach pain in my upper stomach. I will never take this pill again. I used Nexium for 6 months and never had this horrible effect."

"This Pepcid MF by Aurobindo caused my acid reflux to become severe. I woke up choking for 2 nights in a row, plus very nauseous. I had been on Pepcid by a different MF for over a year and never had problems."

For GERD "I took 10 mg of famotidine twice a day for severe GERD. I had stomach and chest pressure, shortness of breath, anxiety, burning, belching, nausea, and throbbing. It was enough for me to end up in the ER. The famotidine helped my symptoms after the first dose, but by the second day, I felt like I was losing my mind. I felt like my brain wasn't mine, I felt weird and detached. I was having panic attacks, I felt agitated, shortness of breath, and like I couldn't really speak. I felt really scared of my own mind. Turns out it's some of the 'rare' side effects. Super helpful for my symptoms, but not worth these horrendous side effects."

For GERD "Been struggling with GERD for a while, got prescribed famotidine at 20 mg per pill. If anything, I’d rather just battle my GERD symptoms without it. Makes me feel extremely nauseous, stomach is constantly churning and making me feel like I need to vomit. If I could give it a 0/10, I would. This stuff is pure garbage."

For Duodenal Ulcer "I have a peptic ulcer and took Nexium. Causes horrible back pain, itching, and horrific gas. Stopped taking, and I was in pain all the time, nauseous, horrible acid in my throat, just awful. Saw our family gastroenterologist, and he prescribed a 40 mg dose to me, two times per day for 6 weeks to heal the ulcer. After one hour of taking, the pain went away, acid taste gone, was able to eat, and the nausea was gone. No side effects. Just felt very relaxed. After 4-6 weeks, the doctor will move me to as needed only after feeling so awful for 2 months. I am thankful for this medication."

For GERD "Yesterday was my first time taking it since I have stomach soreness from food poisoning last week. Right after taking it, I was coughing, felt nauseous, and it felt like my chest was tightening, but it only lasted an hour. I felt tired and had a migraine most of the day. Today, I got the same symptoms of the coughing, nausea, and chest tightness. I am going to call my doctor tomorrow and see what else I can take."

For Peptic Ulcer "My gastroenterologist put me on 40 mg, twice per day, for six weeks for my peptic ulcer. I tested negative for H. pylori. My PCP had me on Nexium, which I ended up being allergic to. Horrible headache, fatigue, hives, major bowel issues, and nausea. Famotidine has changed my life. After two doses, I felt better than I had in nearly one year. I had zero side effects, which made it easier for me to stay on the six-week plan. After my six weeks, I will remain on it as needed."

For GERD "I was prescribed famotidine 20 by my ENT doctor at bedtime. Went in with sinus issues, and he went down my nose/throat and noticed severe acid reflux, which is odd because I rarely get heartburn. Been taking it for a week and noticing odd things. I will discontinue it tonight to see if the side effects go away. I started burping a lot and would wake up nauseous. Breathing sometimes is off, and felt like I have a chest gas bubble that won’t come out, and I have been taking Gas-X. The chest discomfort made my anxiety worse some days. At first, I was happy with this medication because it helped me sleep and stopped my dry cough at night, but a lot of these issues started after taking it. When I burp, it does relieve the pressure, but then comes back later on, and today started randomly feeling leg pain. I’m hoping after I stop, the issues will subside. Otherwise, it’s another issue."

For GERD "I was prescribed 20+20 mg for GERD. The first few days appeared great, considerably lessened symptoms, but on day 2 came the runs. Like a sudden need for the toilet, and then the worst diarrhea you can imagine. My GP recommended continuing with the medication as typically the diarrhea might go away, but it didn't. Then started the headache, a throbbing nightmarish pain, and with GERD, it's not like you want to take pain relievers for your already inflamed esophagus... do put up with it. And finally, after a few more days, a nausea. Constant feeling like you're going to throw up. That's it for me, swapping one symptom for three! I preferred the GERD!"

For GERD "Took my first one yesterday, but by evening I was very hot, nauseous, and weak. Woke up this morning not any better. Will not take any more famotidine. I will go back to pantoprazole, at least I did not have any side effects from pantoprazole."

For GERD "We took another drug for GERD that was pulled off the market. We switched (two of us) to famotidine, but a generic. We were both within two days back to acid, nausea, and no relief. We then found the TEVA version, and within two days of starting back on that, no symptoms at all. I have to drive an hour to pick up the TEVA as no one near me carries it. It is half the price of the other generic with my insurance, and that helps pay for the gas. I went to an independent drug store to find this. Cannot say enough good things about the way this works. We take it with breakfast and dinner, 40 mg."
