"I've had the implant for almost 2 years and bled for almost 2 months to begin. Each month following, I would have heavy bleeding once or twice a month, irregular periods, long periods. Once, I was bleeding very heavily for about 4 weeks and had to go to the hospital as I felt like I was slowly dying from blood loss. I used to be on the pill, which at the time I didn't realize how crazy it made me until after I stopped, and now realize the Implanon is the reason I have been depressed, unhappy, anxious, and fatigued. I'm getting this out next week and planning to use Natural Cycles for a while to rid my body of excess hormones. My friend had a nerve wrap around her Implanon, which caused numbness down her whole arm. Other friends have experienced mood changes and generally not feeling themselves. One friend had this in after having a baby, and to my knowledge has had no issues with it, so it really does depend on the person."

"I had been on the pill for 7 years and had a good experience with them, but every time I'd forget to take a pill, I'd bleed. My husband and I decided to wait on kids, so I got the Implanon inserted. I love the convenience of not having to worry about taking a pill or having to worry about being pregnant if I forget the pill. The only major downfall is the lack of sex drive. I've been on the Implanon for almost 2 months, and it's affecting my sex life. My husband and I went from doing it 3 times a week to 1. I'm seriously considering taking it out early."

"I've had the Implanon for nearly a year now, and I love it so much. If I could be appointed the official ambassador of this thing, I would! The insertion was quick, simple, and painless. I had a small bruise, which was easily covered and went away quickly. I have a tiny scar the size of a pen tip now. During the first 3-4 months, my period was a bit erratic. It would last about 6-7 days, and it would sometimes come once a month, sometimes more or less. It was much lighter than my natural periods. I took naproxen, which would stop the bleeding most of the time. However, after about six months, my period has basically stopped. Occasionally, I have an hour or so of spotting, and rarely I might have a few days in a row. One liner a day is always enough for the bleeding now. I have no period pain for the first time in my life. I haven't experienced any weight gain, and my acne is no worse than when I was on the pill. You can't beat the ease of this thing. In Australia, it cost about $50 (including insertion by a doctor) for three years of protection. I often go weeks without thinking about contraception. I don't even have to worry about pregnancy, knowing this is the most effective contraception available. I nearly didn't get my Implanon because of what I read online. But I'm so glad I did. Remember that for each negative review, there are probably many people who are happy with the Implanon, but they just forgot to write a review because they are so busy out enjoying life!"

"I feel a civic duty to share my experience because this is really the 'Evil Stick.' It all started great! The insertion was easy, had some mild spasms in the arm, and I didn't have my period for 5 months, which is cool! 8 months later, random spotting and had some serious heavy periods lasting more than two weeks! *Warning, this part will be very graphic.* I found myself sitting in the bathtub, I was bleeding out. I sat there for about an hour, and huge blood clots streamed out of me. I was horrified, as I have never seen anything like this in my life! Basically, I had two weeks of heavy periods and two weeks with no period. The period was so heavy I was iron deficient. I gained 25 - 30 pounds and had acne on my face. After 2 years, I am HANGRY! I'm hungry, angry, moody, zero energy. SEX DRIVE IS NONEXISTENT, flooding periods, eruptions of acne, and 30 pounds later...decided to remove the 'Evil Stick' next week! Argh...I regret my life decision."

"Your body will either love or hate the Implanon. I had the Implanon for one and a half years, and for me, it was bad. I gained 5 kg and would go through these cycles - two weeks on, two weeks off - of non-stop bleeding, mood swings that nearly altered my personality, and a huge increase in anxiety. I actually thought I was mentally unwell, and my doctor was so reluctant to take it out, over and over again convincing me to keep it in. But then I insisted on switching to Yaz, which worked beautifully with my body - I am myself again, losing weight was easier (I'm back to my usual weight), and my cycle is back to normal."

"Implanon is awesome. I've had mine in for over 2 years now and have never had a problem with it. The first two months were tricky, my period lasted for about 3 weeks, then just spotted and then stopped completely. I haven't gotten it since. I also don't get period pain or the mood swings. It's awesome."

"I love Implanon. I went to my doctor to complain about my birth control pills (different kinds for 6 years) that caused mood swings, breakouts, etc. She suggested Implanon, and in 20 minutes I walked out with it! It does not hurt. It looks intimidating, but they numb your arm and afterwards it feels like a normal bruise. I have had it for 6 months now. I have no period and no side effects! No mood swings, no breakthrough bleeding, no breakouts, it's amazing."

"I've had the Implanon since February 2013. The first day I had nausea, but the doctor told me that would be expected. I was on Depo before this. My first period was 3 days, and my next period was 2 weeks long. My side effects are cramps, headaches, depression, and sore breasts. I like the fact I haven't gotten pregnant, but the bleeding part drives me crazy. If the periods didn't come often and the side effects weren't so significant, I would love this, but periods are the negative."

"I have had the implant since September 2016, and whilst I acknowledge that it is one of, if not the most reliable methods of contraception, I am shocked at the changes it has imposed on my body. Since insertion, I have gained 2 stone with no changes in my diet or exercise, and my mental health has been particularly bad. It goes without saying that everyone's body responds differently to contraceptives, but this has not worked for me."

"I have had Implanon since September 7, 2012. I haven't gotten my period since or spotted. I don't have any side effects at all, I love it, and I haven't gotten pregnant. I was on the pill before this and would always forget to take it, so this has made my life so much easier. No weight gain, no headaches, no side effects. I LOVE LOVE IT!!"

"Honestly, it's not worth it. Was on it years ago for almost the whole 3 years, went from 65 kg to 96 kg. I just got another back in 2 weeks ago after successfully losing 23 kg. In the time of having it back in, I'm almost 4 kg up ALREADY!! I crave food all day, every day, I literally cannot stop eating. It's all I want to do. I'm constantly tired, have headaches, and feel depressed because of all these symptoms. I'm so upset about my weight gain and so scared it's just going to get worse. I'm having it taken out tomorrow."

"Personally, I love this birth control method, and I even have recommended Implanon to several of my friends. Insertion didn't hurt much, although, I do have a very high pain tolerance. The days following insertion were the worst, pain-wise, but it wasn't unbearable. I did experience nausea and dizziness in the first couple of weeks as my body adjusted to the hormones. I've actually lost weight, and I haven't had a period or even a single pimple since insertion. The only serious side effects were emotional lability (probably the most concerning), rapid mood swings, and some slight depression, but honestly? Worth it. It's a hassle-free birth control method, and I absolutely love the peace of mind it gives me."

"2 months after I had my baby, I decided to get the Implanon. Worst mistake EVER. I had no sex drive at all, and my mood swings were so bad that my husband and I almost broke up over me being in such a bad mood all the time. I also got very depressed. I knew it wasn't the baby blues because I was so happy with my new daughter. Right after I took it off, I started feeling like myself again."

"I have had Implanon since June 10th, 2012. I haven't had my period once, not sure if that's a good thing. I haven't spotted, but I'm not complaining. I have not got any acne. I have, however, gained almost 100 pounds. And I haven't really been able to lose weight while on the implant. And just recently, my sex drive has almost nearly disappeared."

"My experience was very mixed. I have to say it was effective in preventing pregnancy and not having to worry about taking a pill was wonderful. However, I spent one month on my period and sometimes one month off, usually 2-3 weeks off. That's really effective in preventing pregnancy when you're constantly on your period. Oh, and the mood swings? Terrible. I couldn't even stand to be around myself. It also killed my sex drive and made me tired all the time. Just a warning to potential users. It's not all peachy and period-free! Two months post-removal, I'm finally starting to feel like myself again."

"I'm one of the 5% that experience all the VERY bad side effects that no one mentioned when I got the implant. I used it for 8 months after the birth of my son. It was removed 6 months ago, and now I'm having to see an endocrinologist due to the continuing hormone imbalance Implanon caused. I lost hair, gained 50 pounds, acne, facial hair, mood swings, fatigue, slept most of the time, no libido, just plain MISERABLE. Not to mention I missed out on enjoying my son's 1st year of life."

"I LOVE THIS. I have had my Implanon since March 2012, and it is great. There will be times that I go for about 2 or 3 months with no period and then get one for 2 weeks. But it doesn't bother me. I don't get cramps anymore, and I wrestle with my kids and my boyfriend, and I never notice the implant at all. No negatives to this! I hope that everyone learns the joy of this!"

"As I'm sitting here writing this, I have the Implanon in and trying to figure out what's wrong with me as I'm crying reading these reviews. This birth control, as far as not getting pregnant, it works. But I used to be happy, energetic, loved going and doing all the time. And now it's like I don't even know who I am anymore. I'm lost, weak, and just feel like dying, laying down and never waking up again. All it has done for me is make me have heavy bleeding, mood swings, depression. I don't recommend this to anyone."

"I have had the implant for 4 months now. I have my period every month right on time, but it is much lighter and there is no cramping. My doctor let me know that the implant is even safer than getting your tubes tied, and you should not gain any weight from using this birth control. She told me the only thing people complain about is their period because it can come whenever or not at all. I haven't experienced any weight gain or mood swings like I did on the pill. My sex drive is healthy as well. I recommend this birth control!"

"I've been using Implanon for almost 5 years now, and I didn't experience any bad side effects. When I had my first one implanted in my left arm, I did spot lightly for a little while, just a few months. Then I didn't have a period at all or spotting. I love it. When my 3 years was up, I had it removed and replaced in that same arm, and still no bad side effects. No weight gain, or skin changes, or pains, and I honestly forget that it's even there."

"I got this birth control almost a year ago. In the beginning, my periods remained the same. For about 2 months, I bled every other week. It was hardly bleeding. More like spotting. Now, for the past couple of months, I've been skipping periods. Overall, the bleeding is irregular. But it's a small price to pay for the luxury of this birth control. I don't have to remember to take pills. I have not had any weight gain. No hair loss. I have not gotten pregnant. My sex drive is the same. My moods are the same. I have not had any negative side effects besides irregular bleeding. This is the first and only birth control I have ever taken, and so far, it's been working just fine."

"I am very, very, very pleased with the Implanon! I did the research before getting mine and decided that (after all, everything- including oral contraceptives- have risks) it was worth it to me. I got my Implanon in September of 2009. Insertion did hurt, they use local anesthetic (lidocaine) to numb the area first, and that's all that hurt. I didn't actually feel the insertion at all. I had an irregular bleeding cycle for about a month and a half, and since then I have had NOTHING! It is now July of 2010, and I am very pleased with the results. I don't have to worry about keeping up with a daily or monthly option, don't have a period, and I am NOT pregnant (which is, after all, the whole point). I tell anyone who will listen how great the Implanon is!"

"I'm on my second Implanon, and I love it. The first one I got, I didn't have a period for the whole 3 years I had it, some weight gain but nothing extreme. No mood swings or anything like that. I got it put in because my cramps were excruciating and my periods were irregular as ever. As soon as I got the first one out, I got another put in. This one has been different than my first. I have my period every other month, almost sometimes longer than that, and they last about a week but not heavy. Still no babies though! I would absolutely recommend the Implanon! Don't have to worry about taking a pill every day or going in to get a shot. You can't even tell it's in your arm, and it doesn't hurt to get put in."

"I've had Implanon for 2 and a half years now. I can't wait to get it out, and I will never get it again. The main reason is I have gained a LOT of weight with this, and also I feel it is the cause of my acne/mood swings. My periods have now stopped completely, besides the odd month of spotting. Spotting that may last about 2 weeks, then stop for one week, then come back for another week. It definitely does a great job as acting as a contraceptive. Handy for people who don't want to take the pill every day."

"I just had my 2nd Implanon put in yesterday. Solid 3 years of no babies, light, mostly regular periods. Insertion was not too painful. I had it removed and a new one put in yesterday, so I have slight bruising and tenderness today. My doctor was wonderful, helpful, and gentle with the procedure. I recommend it to anybody who is wanting to wait on having kids."
