"I've been on Implanon now for about 2 and a half years and I'm still getting my periods. They started off normal, and now they are just irregular. I've had my period now for the past three weeks, and it's not normal period blood, it's more brown and chunky than anything I've experienced before. I'm not the type to go to the doctors, but it's getting to the point where it's ruining my sex life. I never had depression or weight loss or gained any, but I do get fewer headaches than what I did before. I would recommend the Implanon to people who are forgetful about taking pills, it's just risky because the symptoms are different for everyone."

"I've had this since March of 2010, and at first, it was great. I had a period maybe every other month, sometimes they would last for a week or a little longer, sometimes they would be shorter. Now, after 2 years, I've been bleeding for about a month, and it is heavy. No pregnancies, but I feel like I am. I've had crazy mood swings, sometimes I'm super hungry, and sometimes I can't eat, and I feel like I'm always tired. Thinking about taking it out."

"I love this birth control. It's the only one that has really worked for me. I did gain some weight, but nothing a gym can't fix. I got the implant inserted in March 2014, it's now October 2014, and I haven't had a period for 6 months. Nothing. No light bleeding, no spotting. It's wonderful! I say go for it."

"So far, I have had no issues with the Implanon. I'm surprised after reading tons of horrible stories from other females. Insertion felt like a pinch, and when it was done, my arm was wrapped up. It was quick and simple. I didn't even have to pay a lot because my insurance covered it. My arm didn't bruise at all, and I was able to just wear a band-aid without it being noticeable. I haven't had any crazy side effects other than being a little more emotional, but it's the same level as when I get my PMS. I'm happy that I got this implant because now I can feel safe with my partner. I don't want to have any kids anytime soon."

"I had Implanon placed back in 2010 for 3 years, later found out it was extended to 5 years. I didn't notice any side effects right away. My sex drive was normal, skin normal, everything was fine. I noticed a major change after 4 years. I started getting depressed, angry for no reason, 0 patience. As time went on, I started becoming a really mean person, uninterested in everything. I would eat and snack constantly. I didn't want to go anywhere or see people because I just didn't care to converse or act like I cared what was happening in their life. My sex drive was low. My health started being affected too, I suffered from severe migraines, nausea, mood swings. I went to the doctor, had MRIs done, and nothing came from it. I was 'fine.' I didn't even think to associate my birth control with it. I started getting educated, read reviews, and saw that I was not alone. It is now removed, and I am slowly becoming the woman my family deserves. I would 100% not recommend this birth control. I hope this helps someone."

"The good: Implanon was 100% effective and very convenient. The bad: It killed my desire for sex completely. I gained 30 pounds within two months. I have a history of migraines, usually getting them every couple of months, but during the last six months of having Implanon, I was getting them twice a week, with bizarre symptoms. My migraines would make me feel like my face and entire left side of my body was numb. I would forget words, I would have trouble forming sentences. Sometimes it felt like I was totally disconnected from my body and that my head was caving in. My doctor sent me to get an MRI, but nothing was wrong, and they diagnosed 'complex' migraine. Had Implanon removed two months later, and the weird migraines stopped."

"I gave it a 2 because I never got pregnant on it. After much research, I decided Implanon was my best bet since I wouldn't have insurance anymore. The first couple of months were good until I got a period that never ended. After 2 months of bleeding, I got on birth control pills to regulate my period. I was good for 2 months, then started the bleeding again. I basically had my period for 3-4 weeks, then spotted for 2, and if I was lucky, had 2 weeks period-free. I gained about 20 pounds in the first 3 months, which I could not lose no matter what I did. Mood swings were awful, at one point, I was depressed. My skin got bumpy. Finally, I got insurance to take it out."

"I had the Implanon inserted in October 2014. The first couple of weeks, I felt quite queasy and depressed. After a few weeks, I was fine. I have not gained any weight or had any nasty side effects. I have a light and short period once a month. However, sex drive has gone out the window."

"Okay, so I got the implant for two reasons: I was terrible at remembering to take birth control, and my menstrual cycle every month used to be awful (heavy bleeding, terrible cramps, vomiting, and headaches). I absolutely love Implanon. My monthly symptoms stopped, and I only bled three times this past year for only a few days. I can't speak highly enough of this! It stopped my mood swings caused by hormones, and this past year has been amazing. I was so worried about getting it because there are some bad reviews of this. I was worried about weight gain, mood swings, and breakouts because I used to have severe acne. I did not experience any of those symptoms."

"My experience has been horrible. I got it after I gave birth in Nov 2012, and at the beginning it was cool. I have not gained weight, I have just lost mad weight, and it sucks. I weigh less than I've ever weighed before. In March of 2013, I got my period, and now it's Nov, and I still have it non-stop, full-on period, and it sucks. I have an appointment on Nov 13th to get it removed. I have lost my sex drive, I've been bipolar. This thing has made me crazy. I cannot wait to get it removed and have my life back. Would not recommend it to anyone."

"I got my Implanon in May 2011 after my son was born. I didn't have a period for a month after that like normal. Then the spontaneous bleeding began (like I expected, the doctor told me it would happen), but then 2 months passed, then 3, then 6! With almost constant bleeding, I called my doctor, and she said to give it 6 more months, and at the year mark, my periods would stop altogether. That day came and went, but the problem continued. Along with that, I have had a nonexistent sex drive, severe weight gain, acne, depression, anxiety, hormonal issues, and hair loss, getting it out in 2 hours!"

"I got the arm implant in March 2017, and it's been nothing but a nightmare. I have gained so much weight, I started to retain water, and I have been spotting for the last month. My sex drive is usually insane, but with the birth control, I lost my sex drive, and my skin took a toll. I don't recommend this birth control."

"I have been on the Implanon a little over a year now. I have not had any periods besides a little spotting the first couple of months. (Yay for not having to pay for tampons & chocolate!) I love the fact of not having a period and not getting pregnant right now, but there are a few downsides to it. My downsides: I never had acne previously, and I now have it really bad. I gained about 45 lbs, and I have horrible mood swings. It has its good and its bad to it, just be cautious of the side effects."

"I am getting this removed as soon as possible. I have only had it in for a few weeks now, but I just cannot handle what it is doing to me. I am having massive anxiety and depression. It's literally driving me nuts. As I read other women's reviews, I see other side effects such as weight gain and nonstop bleeding, and I know that's something I do not want to experience either."

"I love the Implanon! I have been on it for almost 2 yrs. I get it out in Dec 2015. So far, I like it because I always forget to take the pill or get my shot for Depo. I decided to try it, and I love it. I did gain weight, about 60 lbs, but it's not the birth control. It was stress with home, work, and family. I won't get my period for months, then one day I get it. I would have it for like 2 weeks. I had it with everything like cramps, mood swings, and a heavy flow."

"I've had Implanon since December 2011. I am getting it replaced in a few days. The first 2 years, I didn't have problems with it. My periods weren't crazy. I think I had it about every 3 months for 3-4 days of normal bleeding. However, for the past few months, I have had it every 2 weeks, like clockwork, with heavy bleeding. My doctor told me it is just because when it runs out, it runs out and my hormones are just out of whack. I have gained weight (10 lbs in 3 years), but I'm not blaming that completely on birth control. I'm in dental school and quite stressed. For those who say they have gained 20-30 lbs on this, there is no way hormones ALONE cause that much weight gain, other factors are in play there."

"After having my daughter at 17, my gyno basically made me choose this birth control. I didn't want any more slip-ups, and apparently, she felt the same. Since then, I have very random periods, but do not get pregnant, and that's what it's all about, right? I love it."

"I love this thing! I've NEVER had a problem with it! Had it for three years and about to put another one in. Birth control is tricky, and it's not for everyone! I have a high metabolism and have never gained any weight with it! Stopped having periods after about eight months, also! Greatest thing ever!"

"I have this, and I love it. No periods, nothing. It is great. I don't have to worry about a thing for three years. When it was first inserted, I did feel a little sick, but it passed after a day. I would recommend this form of birth control to anyone that asks. I love it."

"I've had the Implanon for about 6 months now. The insertion hurt a little bit, but it was definitely worth it - the next 3 years of worry-free birth control. I absolutely LOVE not getting a period anymore, and I truly trust this method enough to not need the reassurance of a period. The ONLY things I do not like about Implanon are the mood swings and weight fluctuation (about 5 lbs more or less). People close to me have really noticed a change in my irritability. I wouldn't consider myself extremely bad by any means, it is tolerable, I just demand a lot more alone time than I used to. I would recommend this birth control to anyone."

"I had the Implanon inserted in June 2011 and had it taken out recently in June 2014 when my three-year mark was up. I'm giving it a six because it did prevent pregnancy in my case. Pros from my experience: no periods and no pregnancies. Cons from my experience: 80 lbs weight gained (I also had some family issues, work, and school. Not blaming it all on the birth control). NO sex drive at all, I was never in the mood, and my feet seemed to get bigger. Other than that, it's a great birth control. It works effectively on other people. Some have no weight gain, and some do. I do recommend this because it does work great for preventing pregnancy!"

"I've experienced a confusing period, but it's a lot less than before I got it, as well as less cramps. In the beginning, I gained a pound or two, but realized it's only because Implanon made me more hungry, so I regulated my eating patterns, and now I haven't gained any weight. Sometimes I might feel pregnant (since some of the symptoms relate), but I'm generally paranoid when it comes to my body. I love my Implanon, and I'm greatly satisfied with it. Glad I got it, best thing ever."

"I got Implanon put in February 2013, while I was on my cycle. My cycle stopped when it was supposed to. About two weeks later, I bled constantly. The Implanon caused me to have many side effects. I got depressed, anxious, sad, and hormonal. And I bled constantly until May. Everyone is different, and everyone's body responds in a good or bad way. After having it removed, I'd say I'm 99 percent better."

"I had Implanon inserted about 4-5 months ago. I had my period twice in one month the first time I got Implanon, but then completely stopped having my period. I also noticed my menstrual migraines no longer came around. Literally no other side effects."

"I have been on for almost six years. I've had it replaced once. This upcoming October, I'll probably have it replaced again. For me, the first one, my periods were random. No period for 3 months, then spotting for one month. After having it replaced the second time, it's been less period all around, light spotting. Again, considering it again in October, just wanted to see the effects others have had. No weight gain or acne for me. I have a slight temper already, so wouldn't have noticed mood swings."
