Previfem (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I have been on and off Previfem for about 6 years. My OBGYN started me on it after very irregular and heavy periods along with a diagnosis of PCOS. While on them I noticed that I was very numb to emotions and found myself very depressed. The moment I stopped these pills, I found a whole new side of joy and sex drive in my life. I am still on the lookout for a better birth control method, but I do no recommend hormonal birth controls anymore, especially this one. I have always struggled with my weight (side effect of PCOS) so I cannot say that this pill made me gain or lose any weight. My skin has gotten progressively clearer over the years, but I did start the pill when I was 18-hard to say if it was natural hormonal changes or the pill."

Tri-Sprintec (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I started taking this pill at the start of this month, I'm now on week 4 and completely miserable. I noticed almost straight away that my moods, which aren't that great to begin with, but bearable, have worsened. I can't stand to be around myself because of the mood I'm in all the time. This started about 2 days after I started the pill and has only gotten worse as the month carried on. Now that I'm on the placebo week my period which is normally light/medium to medium flow is so incredibly heavy. My doctor prescribed me this for my PCOS to help regulate my periods till my husband gets over and we can start trying for a baby, but I think I'd much rather just deal with my periods being out of whack than this. Tri-Previfem (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "Orthotricyclen is pretty bad, but this is the worst generic of it. As soon as my pharmacy switched to giving me this instead of Trisprintec, My side effects dramatically increased. I gained weight, had horrible mood swing and even had a blood clot in my leg from this pill! It nearly killed me!! It's claimed that generics are all the same, but that can't be true for birth control pills. Tripreventfem is the worst!! Do not take it if your pharmacy forces you to switch!"

TriNessa (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I am 29 never been on birth control before.I recently started taking it due to painful periods due to uterine fibroids, I started taking it a month ago I would take it around 1pm and was the worst mistake ever could not control my emotions or mood was feeling foggy and in daze always tired could not concentrate always agitated. My friend suggested I start taking them at night before bed so I take them at 10 ish to 1030 now and makes a huge difference. I'm back to my old self now my periods last at least 5 days no where near bloating or the painful periods I've had before. I have not experienced any weight gain or any other negative effects besides the ones taking them during the day my breasts are sometimes tender but not a big deal."

Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I have tried this pill for a month now. My symptoms include headaches, blurry vision, sleeplessness and spotting for the entire month! Definitely going to try something else to keep the cysts under control, probably Depo shot. I was on the shot for a few years a while ago and had no symptoms with no periods at all, can do without those!"

TriNessa Lo (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I started bc for one main reason, ovarian cysts. It workes great. I was on it for five months and had no pain from cysts the entire time. It also worked great to prevent pregnancy. There were no issues except one. I gained at least 20lbs in 5 months from it. I usually fluctuate from 112 to 115lbs. No more than that. Well once i started bc I had the appetite of a teenage boy. I was eating non stop! I'm sure the weight can be controlled if you are dedicated to a strict diet though. So I got off the bc two weeks ago and I have already lost 8lbs. The reason I chose to get off is because of the weight gain. Now I have to trade it all in for the cysts again."

Sprintec (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I would not recommend this to anyone. Despite very healthy eating and exercise, I gained ten pounds a month on this medication. I've aways been slim prior to this, and completely stopped gaining weight a couple of weeks after I quit taking Sprintec. It's taken 8 months off it, to get back to my normal weight. In addition to this, I experienced extreme depression."

Tri-Sprintec (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I really liked this pill in the beginning. Two full months later I am very nauseous, my anxiety is worse, and I have tiny dizzy spells that last from my fifth day of my period to the beginning of a new cycle. I am so miserable this time of the month that I've had to cancel several social outings. I saw my dr today and she switched me to plain Sprintec. I hope this works. On the bright side, my periods are on time, lighter bleeding, and minimal cramps"

Tri-Lo-Marzia (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I don’t recommend this birth control at all for a number of reasons. It caused my skin to break out on my chin and forehead within the first week of taking it and it never got better. I then started having anxiety attacks and mood swings that would make me super sensitive and cry for no reason, which caused me problems at work and within my personal relationships. It also made me nauseous and bloated which wasn’t fun either. I thought that maybe it was just all in my head until I went to a different OBGYN today and she explained to me that she doesn’t like to prescribe people this birth control because of how it works. It gives you a different dosage amount of hormone each week which explains the acne and mood swings. You can avoid a few months/years of suffering by steering clear of this pill."

TriNessa (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "Migraines and more migraines. I was getting up to 4 migraines a month to the point I started a headache log. I never put two and two together until I mentioned my frequent migraines to my doctor and he told me to go off Trinessa immediately, as it may cause stroke during migraine. Alarming, to say the least. I wasn't convinced that my migraines were related to Trinessa, but now that I've been off it for well over a month with zero migraines, I know that was the cause. I suppose it did its job in regard to the cysts (I have a hysterectomy, so I didn't need it for BC reasons), but the migraines and decreased sex drive were no fun at all. I was blaming hormones, but I was mistaken."

Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I really loved this birth control. I had no side effects, it reduced the heaviness of my period, I had little to no period cramps while on it and it worked well as a contraceptive. Unfortunately it was really expensive even with my insurance so I had to switch."

TriNessa (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "Taken trinessa for two months now. Helps me to have a regular cycle. Only thing that bothers me is that I feel really irritable and moody. I don't like that. I use to take orthro tri cyclen lo but my insurance don't cover that particular brand and I loved it because I had no side effects. I guess I should give it more time and maybe the side effects will go away."

Tri-Lo-Sprintec (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I have been on this birth control for a month and honestly it screwed up my mental health. I have been on the regular sprintec for a year but switched to the lower dose because I have experienced weight gain. The side effects I have experienced since taking this BC was severe loss of appetite, I can go a day without eating and it would continue the next day but I would force myself to eat. Worst of all I have terrible mood swings, I feel sad for no reason Or the smallest things that make me unhappy feels like the worst thing ever happened. I feel isolated even when I’m around people. I believe that I’m on the road to depression if I continue on this BC. I do not recommend at all."

I was taking MonoNessa with no problems until Walgreens switched their supplier. I have contacted my doctor to get a prescription stating not to give a generic, so hopefully that will help."

Ortho Tri-Cyclen (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I started taking ortho tri-cyclen to alleviate severe pain around the time of ovulation and menstruation, for ovarian cysts, and for acne. The first few months were fine, however I’ve been spotting for about a month now. My breasts have gone up a cup size and they’re very tender and swollen, but my acne (which used to cover 80% of my cheeks) is now going away and I only have 3 or 4 spots. I’ve gained some weight, but not too much."

Ortho Tri-Cyclen (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I have been taking this pill since I was 15. (5years) I have never had a problem with it. It had cleared up my acne, the periods are so regular and I always know the exact day of when it starts and ends (they are short and less painful). My cysts are gone. I usually have 1 bad painful day but that’s it. The week before I start, I get EXTREMELY EMOTIONAL. I cry for no reason, get angry at people, and have weird mood swings. Other than that, I love this pill. Unfortunately, my dr is changing my prescription to another pill because I have high blood pressure and the chance of stroke is too high (even though I am only 20 years old!!!) I want to switch back tho this pill, it is amazing and effective!"

Sprintec (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I started this pill on Wed, Dec. 11th which is when my menstrual started. I had brown discharge until Saturday night. Sunday morning I have been gushing blood. I have gone through 4 super + tampons and level 5 "diaper" pads daily. Its Tuesday morning, Dec. 17th and I've decided to not take another pill until my doctor calls me back to tell me different. I've never bleed like this without the pill, and I have a fibroid the size of a grapefruit in me. I'm scared to continue this pill, especially with the reviews. I hope I don't continue to bleed like this and I hope I haven't thrown off my cycle for the next few months. I'm getting married in March 2020 and I have been very careful to time my wedding around my body. Sigh. Good luck everyone. I'll definitely check in with an update before the end of this week."

Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I recently switched from Ortho Tricyclen Lo because I had spotting, so I'm switching to a pill with more progesterone because that's what the nice doctor lady said I should do. But! While on this pill I could definitely tell I broke out instantly and had crazy mood swings during the third week but it was do-able. I don't think I like phasic pills. But other than that no weight gain, no loss of sex drive, and still the same periods (which have always been bad)."

Estarylla (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I recently been taking Estarylla for about 1 month now and just stopped it completely. It did help with my secondary amenorrhea. I usually get my period once every 4-7 months and I got it about a week ago. But I’m getting off it because I now have severe acne and weight gain. Not to mention, mood swings, constant UTI’s, weight gain, bloating, and indigestion."

Mononessa (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I restarted this medication after a few months away from it because my doctor and I agreed that a hysterectomy with oopherectomy was not a viable option since I am still too young. Since I had success with it before, I thought I was OK but my moods were affected again and I started getting agoraphobic. Also, I had horrible left hip pain that was exacerbated by Mononessa. When I decided to discontinue the pack 2 weeks in, I got a horribly heavy period and then the hip pain went away. My moods balanced back out. I also have PMDD and this medication made it worse. I don't recommend it any longer."

Previfem (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I had my left ovary removed in September of 2015 because of a 10cm cyst that was twisting my ovary, cutting off blood supply. After my surgery they put me on birth control immediately to prevent another cyst from growing on my other ovary. Previfem has been working well for me, the only symptoms I have had have been fatigue, a little bit of weight gain (about 5 pounds) and some mood swings. Other than that I have not had any problems. My period is shorter, lighter and I no longer get cramps like I used to. Overall my experience with this birth control has been great."

Ortho Tri-Cyclen (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I started this birth control my freshman year of high school (15-16) due to ovarian cysts. I absolutely adored this medication until about six months ago. Six years on the same pill is pretty impressive! I knew exactly when my period would start and end. Friday at three gone by Sunday at one. About six months ago I started feeling v mood swing, sadness (for no reason), crying out of no where, weight gain and inability to loose weight (which in fairness could be caused by my ovarian disease). All of those symptoms are also what people with Thyroid issues have. I had my thyroid checked and it turns out it was an abnormal hormonal level due to long use of this birth control! Other than that i have had absolutely no problems at all."

TriNessa (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I've been on trinessa for about 9 years now. But for the last 3 years I have been having major issues that trinessa had previously helped with. These past 3 years my acne has come back, my skin is flaky and oily, I have unwanted facial hair, my periods have become much shorter which for me is not good, I have seizures during the 2 weeks leading up to my period, I am in immense pain and have severe fatigue during those 2 weeks as well. I'm not sure if the birth control has stopped working or if something else that the gyno hasn't found is causing this mess. Either way, this month I will not be taking it so I can see if being off of it helps anything."

Ortho Tri-Cyclen (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate) "I am about to start my second month on oral contraceptive pill. I have experienced both positive and negative effects, all seem very normal. I have always had a great period - regular, 3-4 days, not too heavy, and hardly any menstrual cramps. My period would only bring awful, very unwanted mood swings. I would always be very emotional and angry. Within the last 2 months, I started to develop ovarian cysts that would rupture and my doctor suggested I take Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Here are my results Pros: - Mood swings are no longer an issue (my boyfriend has really noticed the difference in my emotional level) - No weight gain - Goodbye cysts! Cons: (these varied throughout the month) - Trouble sleeping w/ weird dreams - Nausea - Menstrual like cramps during placebo week"
