"Been off and on Microgestin Fe 1/20 for the past couple of years, and I'm a little on the fence. I started it specifically for acne, and it completely clears up my skin, but it makes me have absolutely no period. To some, that may sound amazing, but I don't like the thought of not having a period. It also causes some appetite decrease every now and then. Otherwise, I had absolutely no side effects besides some mild vaginal dryness."

"On Microgestin Fe 1/20. Absolutely horrible! Mentally, I was a complete wreck and struggled to feel happy or excited about anything. I was depressed and upset 24/7 and would get angry for the dumbest reasons. I felt so hopeless, I lost interest in everyday tasks and activities. I broke out like crazy on my chin and have always had clear skin. I thankfully switched to Junel FE, which has been great."

"My gyno switched me from Teva (brand name) to a generic. The generic wreaked havoc on my moods. As someone who suffered from bad PMS already, I was led to believe this would help. Did quite the opposite. Triggered months-long depression and anxiety. I had preexisting problems with both that were exacerbated by this pill. After wasting at least $800 seeing a shrink and going off of the pill, I went to see a psychiatrist who put me on Lexapro, which has made me feel a million times better. I know everyone reacts differently to different pills, but I would warn someone with a genetic predisposition to depression and anxiety to be very careful going on this pill. Doctors don't always care enough to listen before they prescribe medicine."

"I've been on Microgestin Fe 1/20 now for a little over 2 years. I haven't gotten my period since I started taking it. My doctors don't know why but don't seem to be too alarmed. I noticed I am emotional, and I have the urge to cry about the silliest of things. I don't think it has made me gain weight, if so, no more than 5 pounds."

"I started this pill after a horrible experience with Implanon. I've been on the pill for over a year, and I love it! My periods are predictable and very light, and I have had no weight gain. I only get light acne (one or two pimples) when my cycle is about to come on. I've had no breakthrough bleeding, but have noticed a decrease in sex drive, but not by too much."

"I recently decided to get back on this pill, after I was off it for a few months. My experience has been slightly different from the first time I took it. As it has in the past, my skin has completely cleared up, however, this time around, I am feeling extremely nauseous, lost my sex drive, and I am constantly and randomly just bursting into tears. This might just be temporary side effects, hopefully, it gets better soon..."

"I've had my fair share of birth controls. I am pretty healthy. Microgestin works for me, I have very light periods that last about 4 to 5 days and no cramps, where normally I have fairly painful ones. No feeling sick or headaches, or depression, or weight gain, or any other major side effects. Maybe other than feeling a bit nauseous in the morning because I take it the night before. But it works as described for me!"

"I like the pill now because most of the side effects have gone away. The first month is the hardest, though. My body had a very hard time adjusting to the pill, and I had insane mood swings. I went from insanely angry to sad and depressed, even considering self-harm. I do not feel any of those emotions now, but if you are someone who is prone to depression, try another pill."

"Yes, it is effective as a birth control contraceptive. The side effects I have had are loss of sex drive, moodiness, weight gain, and an irregular menstrual cycle. I stopped taking that pack of pills at the end of January 2014, as of now, I have yet to have a menstrual cycle. Something is right."

"I’ve used birth control for over 10 years. I’ve used Microgestin Fe 1.5/30 for the majority of that time. I’ve also used the patch (no complaints other than it would give me a small rash on the area that I applied it to). Microgestin Fe 1/20 was my least favorite. I didn’t get my period the first 4 months. I gained weight (10-15 pounds). I hit the gym every day for about 2 hours. I ran 5-7 miles a day, ate clean, and I could not lose the weight. I had mood swings. I just got off it. As soon as I went back to Microgestin Fe 1.5/30 (my regular birth control), I dropped all the weight, my period came back, and my mood swings went away. I’ve always been regular. Please read reviews before you try something."

"This was my first birth control ever, so at the time I didn't have anything to compare it to. Looking back, it was a pretty bad experience. I have problem skin, and this drug gave me pretty extreme hormonal acne around my jawline that only got worse over time. Please be careful if you have past experience with acne or if you notice the acne isn't going away! I got acne scars that are just now fading. I also noticed that it nearly completely killed my sex drive and put me in a generally depressive state. It might work for some people, but I urge you to try multiple types of birth control before you settle for one because something you take every day should not leave you with such bad side effects."

"I started this pill, and all seemed fine. I had some symptoms while my body was 'adjusting' to the hormones: breakthrough bleeding, a little weight gain, feeling blue. But I guess my body never fully adjusted because 6 months later, this pill is giving me headaches. I have breakthrough bleeding in the middle of the month every month, I feel slightly nauseous all throughout the day, and I still cramp and get acne. I didn't get pregnant, though, and my periods were super light and short, but this pill just doesn't work with my body, I think."

"I started this pill 4 months ago, and my hair is breaking badly. I have mood swings very, very badly. Also, I'm totally emotional all the time. You would think I was pregnant, no sex drive, and my husband is fed up with it!"

"I started taking Microgestin Fe 1/20 because my doctor was no longer prescribing Yaz. I gained 15 lbs, started breaking out with acne like crazy, was weepy about nothing at all or very angry, did not have a period for 6 months and then became pregnant. I was taking the pill exactly as prescribed. I even set an alarm on my phone to take it at the same exact time every day."

"I started taking Microgestin about 5 months ago. Before that, my periods were already very light and now almost nonexistent. My breasts do get sore, but I have no mood swings and never get cramps. The only thing I've noticed different about this pill is that for the past 2 months, I've started my period a week early (before the placebos). I talked to a doctor, and they said it was fine and may eventually even itself out. Other than that, no bad side effects."

"Been on this pill for three weeks. The first week, I had headaches and nausea and almost quit taking it due to the side effects, but my body adjusted. I have a lot of digestive tract issues, but this works for me. I have grown almost a cup size and, on certain days, have tenderness. My sex drive is a lot higher than normal. I had some spotting and a few minor breakouts during the second week. So far, so good. I'm 19, and this is my first birth control. No complaints so far, it's worth trying."

"I started taking Microgestin about a year and a half ago. I've never taken any birth control before this. The first couple of months I either missed my period or had little to no bleeding. As the months went by, my period started to actually feel like a period, and what I mean by that is light bleeding but lasting a few days. I've noticed I feel tired and hungry more often than before. Put on a few pounds, breasts felt sore. I broke out with horrible acne when I had to double up on the pill."

"I've been on this birth control pill for about a year and a half... so far, no pregnancies, my skin is clear, but I've always been lucky in that department. My hair actually feels thicker! No weight gain and no headaches. My period is usually 2-3 days long and super light. Sometimes I only spot for a day and that's it. I used to have severe cramps prior to getting on this birth control to the point I was prescribed muscle relaxants (that bad!)... and now it's slight cramping for a day or two the week of my 'period.' Everyone's body is different, but I have had no side effects on this pill."

"I only tried this pill for barely under 3 weeks because I couldn't take the side effects anymore! I might have been allergic to something in the pill. The final time taking it, itched my legs for 10 straight minutes, causing me to break out in hives. Among the other issues I experienced on Microgestin was chest pain, body soreness, breast tenderness, and moodiness. This pill was a nightmare for me. Except it caused my period to be very light, which was awesome. Switched to Tri-Sprintec and so far (1 week) it's been fine."

"I love this pill! I have been taking birth control for over two years now. The first few months I was on Lo Loestrin Fe, I wasn't crazy about it, so I switched over to Microgestin 1/20 Fe, and my period is perfect. I know exactly what day it's coming and what time it's coming, it's like clockwork. I take the pill around the same time every day and have had no problems! I love it and highly suggest this birth control. Periods are two and a half days, and it's spotting."

"I have been on this birth control pill for about 1 month and a half, and so far I like it. No weight gain, and I haven't got my period. The only problem is my breasts have become really sore. That's my only downfall, but other than that I like it."

"I was on Microgestin Fe for about 2 years. Even in the beginning, I never had any bad or abnormal side effects. With it, I experienced a small amount of weight gain, tender breasts every month around my cycle, an increase in my breast size, and my monthly periods lasting 2-4 days with minimal cramping. The only reason I switched was because I wanted fewer periods. I switched to Amethia-Lo and I've been on it for about a week now. I'm hoping it works well with me, but if not, I'll definitely switch back to Microgestin Fe."

"Awful, swore I was on this before and was miserable but gave it a chance because I switched doctors and we didn't have old records, but I had the horrible flashbacks instantly as soon as I switched to this birth control. I had the following symptoms: lowered sex drive; my boyfriend even noticed, it became embarrassing. Breaking out, weight gain, intense headaches, nausea all the time; felt like I was car sick 24/7. Severe cramping; never wanted to crawl in bed and cry so much as I had with this med. Heavy periods, interrupted sleep, tender boobs. Ugh, needless to say this has been a nightmare; do not do this to yourself."

"I started Microgestin 9 days ago - 2 days after starting it, I started having the worst heartburn I have had in years, in spite of the fact that I take Prilosec daily. 3 days after starting it, I started getting bloated - I could hear the air moving around my GI tract, had horrible gas pains, and looked pregnant. Add in intermittent nausea the next day. I gained 1 lb this week - which isn't much, I know, but considering I'm on a concentrated diet and exercise program and have been steadily losing 1-2 lbs a week for 3 months.... Nothing else in my life has changed, so I could only attribute all of this to the pill. My doc said this isn't a side effect... but clearly from what I read, it is! Stopped today, feel better tonight already."

"I've been on this a couple of months. Little to no period. I've skipped two in a row. However, no sex drive and very 'dry' since I've started taking this. But I still like the fact that I don't have a period."
