"My insurance had changed my usual pill to this one Microgestin Fe 1/20 due to insurance and it has been terrible. I have constant depression and anxiety. I'm always angry over small things and it does not even help my heavy periods/cramping which is what I take the pill for. I will be switching again and paying the difference just so I don't have to go through this anymore."

"Good pill, does what it's supposed to- protects from pregnancy. Clears acne. Regulates periods. BUT mood swings were definitely noticed, and a small weight gain (10lbs or less). I had always weighed around 130 and have been 140 with the pill, and extremely moody- extremely happy or extremely sad- no medium. Every person will have different reactions obviously, just sharing my own experiences."

"I just read most of the reviews and half of them to me are ridiculous, anxiety, and depression?? your period gives you mood swings being a girl you get mood swings !!! I've been on this pill since I was 15 I am 22 now never had a problem unless I miss a few pills, I have never been pregnant, very light blood, no cramps, very little pimples to anyone with bad acne and bad cramps I highly recommend this pill. I used to throw up because of my bad cramps and now I rarely even get one"

"I wanted to write a review because I see so many people saying it caused them side effects, so I wanted to share a positve review so potential users aren't afraid to try it. I had no side effects whatsoever from this drug. I've been on it for 8 years and haven't gotten pregnant so it is definitely effective. And a bonus has been much lighter periods."

"This is my first pack of Microgestin Fe 1/20. I asked two of my coworkers if they liked being on this pill and they said it was okay. Unfortunately, I get headaches like crazy. I'm finding that for every pill I take, I also take an Advil! The only positive thing from this pill is that its making my breasts grow (I'm on the smaller side). My breast do hurt and are tender all the time. Not sure if I want to continue this pill because the headaches are really interrupting my life style. Not to mention, I get super moody. I tell people not to take it personally, that it's my hormones. Definitely, more negative than positive."

"I am 19, And weigh approximately 112-117 lbs. Doctor changed from Microgestion FE 1.5/30 to 1/20 because of weight loss experienced due to diet change (can't eat well in the GA summer heat >.>) Anyway. I began spotting on day 2 and by day 5, I was having a period, I decided to wait another week before calling my doctor, and the bleeding was consistent with a "normal" period. I believe it was too light for me. I was also a bit emotional. Crying jags over the silliest of things. Did not improve acne. Hope this helps."

"I've been on Microgestin 1/20 for 4 months. Gained weight, mood swings, horrible cramps and bleeding in between periods. I don't feel like myself at all. I've been bleeding for 7 days now. They only thing this had done for is heighten my sex drive. I've decided to stop taking it. Going back to condoms. "

"I hate this pill. The first three months went by smoothly. Suddenly my face began breaking out and leaving horrible dark marks. After that my mood began to change. I'm now 5 months into these pills and I feel like a completely different person. I can't sleep at night if I take these pills, but I sleep perfectly if I skip a dose. I cry or get upset over small things, which is very unlike me. I don't feel like doing anything anymore. It's a chore to get out of bed. I'm gaining weight like crazy even though my appetite hasn't changed. I was a very happy and energetic person before taking these pills. I don't recognize myself. I plan to either switching brands or getting off of birth control completely. I need to find my happiness/sanity again."

"I'm going on my second month of Microgestin. I was on Seasonique before pregnancy which I had no problem with but I have a new doctor now. The first couple weeks I had light spotting and nausea but it has decreased. I had my period right before the placebo week. I have gained about 4Ibs so far and my breast have went up a cup size but that is a plus for me. I have also experienced a huge increase in sex drive which is unusual. I have no complaints so far, I just hope my periods are predictable."

"I am 20 years old and here's my experience with this birth control. Pros: didn't get pregnant. SLIGHTLY fuller breasts in the same cup size. Didn't gain weight. Cons: I lost ALL sex drive and became a moody, depressive, crying, tired, sad prude. Which is sad because my husband thought I wasn't attracted to him and I am VERY attracted to his sexy handsome self! My acne also got worse. After two months I stopped the pills and switched to condoms. I am back to my sexual self and get along 100"

"First off, let me say the 9 is being given because I am not using this as traditional birth control. Love the regularity, love that my cramps are gone, love that I can adjust my cycle if I have a special event, love that I have had zero weight gain (have lost weight but that is due to diet/exercise), and love that I still feel like myself on this pill. Monthly I do still experience some bloating and PMS, but compared to my previous almost PMDD symptoms this is great. The moods are much more controllable and I feel less emotional. I would recommend taking the "inactive" iron pills - when I didn't take them my periods were heavier. Good luck!"

"Personally I love this contraceptive! I think it is a great help for women with extremely painful cramps, and a heavy flow. I have not experienced any weight gain thankfully but sadly no weight loss either "

"My OBGYN switched me to this pill because she believed the Necon 0.5/35 I was previously on contained unnecessary amounts of hormone for me. About 3 months in my libido decreased but I wasn't having any other side effects so I decided to wait it out and see if things got better. Around month six I missed my period three months in a row, wasn't pregnant, thank god, and started breaking out like crazy. My periods have resumed but I've got no sex drive, rly bad skin and have become emotionally unstable around my time of the month which is very unusual for me. I am 24 years old, 5"7', 125 lbs. and have a pretty active lifestyle if anyone wants those statistics for their reference. I'll be switching at the end of this months pack."

"I've been on Microgestin for almost 3 years, and the only side effect I ever had was that it cleared up my acne completely. My periods are very light now and extremely regular, as opposed to being heavy and sporadic before. Have had constant unprotected sex for 3 years and have never had a scare whatsoever. Oh and it's free with my insurance. 100% win."

"I have been on this birth control for a month now. I was never really the type of person to get a lot of acne but ever since I started on this pill I’ve got super bad acne & hate my skin. I was “light bleeding” for over 2 weeks. I have gained a little over 10 pounds since I started because I'm constantly wanting food. Before I started this birth control I weighted 115, now I weigh 127 in one month. Another thing is I'm always tired no matter how much I sleep. The only “plus” side is that my cramps aren't as bad anymore."

"I have been on this birth control for awhile now probably a year. I love the fact it makes my periods super light and super short. I even skip periods often which is scary but a relief at the same time. The biggest downfall is the fact I am depressed a lot and have zero sex drive. I blame the birth control because I have gone without it for a few days because I ran out and I felt like a new happy woman with a sex drive."

"I am finishing up my 4th pack of this pill and I am seriously considering switching pills. The first two months weren't too bad, I had mild side effects but they were manageable. It wasn't until the third month that I started getting constant nausea like all day everyday and even worse at night, headaches, sore boobs, frequent urination and absolutely no sex drive. The only good thing is my period is like clockwork and I'm for sure not pregnant but the side effects make me feel like I am!!!"

"I'm 18 I've been on the pill for a month now and love it. The first pill I took I did get very nauseous but nothing water and a nap couldn't fix. Breasts have gotten a cup size larger, more sexually active but my boyfriend doesn't mind. Haven't had any pregnancy scares, but I have not had a period yet. I switched from the Depo shot to the pill and I like the pill a lot more. Just need to remember to take it everyday around the same time."

"I'm currently on a mood swing so forgive me. Although I've just started this pill 3 weeks ago. Every other day I cry for no reason. Then I get angry and mad and just lose my appetite. And sick to my stomach. I feel bloated daily and just annoyed. I have my good days. I was so much more happy though before the pill. And the only great thing is my breasts grew like 2 sizes haha. Other than that I'm making an appointment tomorrow. I'm fed up with these strange mood swings."

"I have finished my first packed of this birth control and honestly haven't really had any side effects. I was afraid at first of starting because of all the reviews I've read online about the mood swings and such but I haven't experienced any. The only side effect I did notice was random spotting (bleeding). It's not a lot though. Overall so far I am pleased with this birth control, this is actually my first birth control I am taking. By the way I am 18 years old."

"Yes it is effective as a birth control contraceptive. The side effects I have had loss of sex drive, moodiness, weight gain and an irregular menstrual cycle. I stopped taking that pack of pills the end of January 2014 as of now I have yet to have a menstrual cycle. Something is right."

"I switched to this pill from Mirena due to severe cystic acne (from the Mirena). The last pill I had taken was Yaz, which I did great with. After my first month on Microgestin Fe, my cystic acne started clearing up. The first couple days I was nauseous, but that went away. Taking it right before bed helps. I've been on it for about 3 months now and I've gained about 10 lbs. I'm the heaviest I've ever been! I'm always hungry and have developed an intense sweet tooth! My breasts did get larger. I'm a 34 C, and I can still wear the same bra size, they just look fuller. No extra sensitivity with them, though. My libido didn't really change. Just my weight."

"This is the only birth control that I have used and it was recommended to me by a friend. I have been on it for over two years now and have had virtually no side effects at all. During my first month on it I spotted almost everyday, but after that I did not have a single issue with this pill. My periods are extremely light to the point where I have not even needed a pad or tampon in two years. I have not experienced any acne, mood swings, weight gain, or libido changes whatsoever."

"I have Endometriosis and am perimenopausal. Had laparoscopic surgery on my endometriosis 15 years ago and had easy periods for years after. In the past year, as perimenopause set in, my periods became unbearable and came every 2 - 3 weeks, so I decided to try microgestin Fe to control symptoms and frequency of periods. The first 8 or 10 days were awful: severe nausea, lethargy, deep depression, and bleeding/spotting for 14 days. Someone suggested I take the pill at night before bed instead of in the morning. Immediately, like magic, everything normalized. It's now been 3 months - my moods are stable, no spotting, no bloating, no cramping, no breakouts. Only real side effect is constipation from the supplemental iron. Now I drink fiber beverages each morning and all is well. Every person reacts differently, but I wanted to share that the bad side effects aren't necessarily permanent."

"Literally put me in such a dark place, I think I cried every day for months on this pill. I talked to my doctor and she said I maybe needed therapy. I switched birth controls just Incase because a friend suggested that might be the issue and right when I switched I felt like a weight was lifted and I turned completely back to my happy self!! Basically I feel like doctors often don’t talk about the mental side effects of birth control pills a lot. So if you are ever depressed and think it’s that, don’t let anyone talk you out of switching! But everyone’s body is different so it might work for you. My favorite is amethyst/lybrel since it has one of the lowest doses of estrogen you can get in a combination pill- for me less estrogen = less side effects! I feel great now!"
