"Originally on Junel Fe 1/20 but needed substitution as no pharmacies locally are carrying that anymore, so Larin Fe 1/20 was substituted. Started getting acne on my shoulders and breasts? Plus the packaging is ugly compared to others I've seen. Switching brands."

"Worst pill ever, please do not take and please listen to these reviews. Started out great then started with very sharp pains, was on bed rest and almost rushed to the ER.... no sign of my period but I sure feel it coming because of the pain, bloating, cramps, acid reflux, sickness, PMS, mood swings, anger, and depression which WON'T STOP. Save yourself the trouble and don’t take!!!!"

"I've been taking this birth control for over a month now and have noticed a few side effects from it. Firstly, it has caused me to become an anxious mess, I've always had anxiety, but my anxiety has gotten progressively worse with this birth control due to the fact I missed my period. This birth control has also caused me to have sore breasts and random cramping throughout the weeks. I have felt so overwhelmed and anxious on this birth control. I wouldn't recommend it if you suffer from severe anxiety to begin with. I normally never cry from anxiety, but this birth control has turned me into an emotional mess. I spent 3-4 weeks freaking out because I thought I was pregnant, alas, I am probably not since I use this birth control and condoms. I only have three side effects: missed period, breast tenderness, and random cramping."

"I just started it like two weeks ago, but I’ve been getting acne more often than before, and my period is longer than usual, and I feel like I’ve gained weight. My stomach always feels bloated, and I feel like every time I comb my hair, more falls out."

"I’ve been taking Larin Fe for about two months now. This was my first time ever being on BC. The first week I was nauseous and moody. I bled for 20+ days, which is abnormal for my normal cycle. My gyno told me to keep taking it, so I did. Now the original bleeding has stopped, but my period is super late. I’ve been cramping on and off for weeks, but no blood. I’ve also been moody and snappy. My sex drive has decreased. I’m hoping when I finish my second pack later this week, everything will go back to normal."

"I had a very negative experience with this birth control. I only took it for one month and had to switch brands. It made me have the worst anxiety and depression of my life to the point where I couldn’t leave my bed. It also gave me terrible breakouts. Everyone’s body reacts differently, but I wouldn’t recommend this birth control to anyone."

"I had been on birth control before and was prescribed Larin Fe through an online service. It immediately caused headaches that did not subside. During my second month taking it, I bled a lot while taking the active pills. It was not spotting, more blood than a normal period. Needless to say, this medication had no benefits. I was taking it strictly because I wanted to skip my period."

"I was recently switched to Larin Fe without my knowledge because Junel Fe was out of stock, so they switched to a generic brand and the name was covered on the label, so I didn’t think anything of it. The last two months I have been broken out head to toe with severe breakouts, couldn’t sleep at all, and had random severe anxiety, and I would snap in a second over the stupidest things. I now stopped taking it altogether and can now sleep, my breakouts are clearing up, and no more anxiety or feeling to cry or snap at anyone. I would never recommend this birth control to anyone. I feel pharmacists should be letting us know when there is a change from regular to generic brands for this reason. I pray this saves someone from making the wrong choice."

"Dr. prescribed Larin Fe because I wanted to not have much of a period and help with my acne! I was on it about a month, and I could tell I was easily aggravated and felt enraged sometimes! Talked to Dr. and said give it 3 months to give it time to completely work! 3 months later, I was still feeling ill, enraged, low sex drive, but no periods! It wasn't worth it to me! Called Dr. and he wanted to give me an anxiety pill! I said nope and stopped taking it! 2 weeks later, and I am experiencing the worst symptoms I have ever felt! Cramps, nauseous, and back hurting! It's been horrible! 3 days later, I went to Dr. and got nausea meds and Ultram for pain! I wouldn't recommend this pill!"

"This is the first birth control I’ve been on. Long story short, I cannot wait to be switching. I’ve never experienced anxiety before going on this pill. I have extremely negative thoughts and became so insecure. I have an extremely low sex drive now and haven’t gotten my period since I’ve been on it. To add to these issues, a few months into taking these pills, my breasts hurt so bad I can’t touch them and barely get out of bed. I hope the new pill I switch to is much better."

"I have been on the Larin Fe 1/20 pill for 6 months now, and it has been great! The last pill that I was on sent me into a deep depression, therefore, I switched to Larin, and I haven’t had any side effects. Recently, I have had anxiety about pregnancy, but I take my pill every day from around 8 AM to 10 AM, so I should be fine. However, my period has just started being irregular in this past month. Really weird, but this is the only issue I’ve experienced."

"I only used Larin Fe for about 4 months because of the effect it had on my menstrual cycle. It did a great job at preventing pregnancy, but I was having 2-3 periods per month. It made my period lighter, but MUCH more painful. I have a very high pain tolerance, but the cramping I experienced while on this pill was almost unbearable. I also experienced bleeding from my cervix during sex. Not fun having to warn sexual partners that you may start bleeding! I didn’t experience any weight gain, but my boobs did get a little bigger, which I won’t complain about, haha. All in all, Larin Fe’s ability to prevent pregnancy wasn’t worth it to me considering the other side effects, and I’ve since switched birth control."

"All I have to say is: stay away from this birth control pill. I’m 44 y/o, and this is the worst birth control pill I have ever been on. I am fit, trim, work out four times a week, and eat super healthy. Within a day of starting to take this, my already big breasts (natural) ballooned up and have been hurting like anything for more than three weeks continuously. I don’t even get that kind of pain before my period as I significantly reduced caffeine. It is absolutely ridiculous. I am bloated, I gained 7 pounds for no reason, and the mood swings the first two weeks were out of control. The worst part: I have now bled for eight days straight (end of three weeks of active pills), have cramps, and today I almost passed out. I threw away the remaining two packages and I am switching to Yaz (generic) as it does not cause water retention."

"I was on a specific pill for three years, but my body began to no longer cooperate with that pill so I had to make a switch. I switched to Junel Fe 24, and about 4-5 months in couldn’t take it anymore with how bad the side effects were. It was in the midst of COVID, so instead of going in for a visit, my doctor talked to me over the phone to prescribe Larin Fe 1/20. Little did I know that this is the generic version of Junel Fe! The only thing she told me to do is give it longer to adjust to my body. I have given it plenty of time and can’t take it anymore. I have the most horrendous list of side effects I could have imagined. My body doesn’t feel like my own anymore. Do not recommend."

"I am 18 and got on Junel Fe 1.5/30 for 3 months, and on the 4th pack, my mom switched pharmacies, and the new pharmacy gave me Larin Fe 1.5/30 and said it was exactly the same and I shouldn’t see any differences, but that isn’t even true. It hasn’t been bad for me except having random cramps throughout the entire month and slight backaches. I was nauseous at first, but it has gone away for the most part. Junel didn’t give me as much nausea at first or bad cramps randomly as much, but since I’ve taken Larin Fe, I haven’t had much breast tenderness at all. Other slight issue I’ve had this month was feeling tired much more, but not enough to interfere with anything, but sometimes annoying. Overall, it’s not horrible, and everyone experiences it differently!"

"DON'T TAKE LARIN FE. Within 2 weeks, I was a mess with the emotional stability of a 13-year-old. I was miserable; depressed, irritable, impulsive. I was tired all the time and had no motivation to do anything at all, even simple tasks or things I typically enjoy. I cried constantly for no reason (I am not a crier). I felt nauseous and had to take my weight in antacids. I started this pill to regulate my incredibly painful period... I would take those awful periods over this any day. I know it takes a while for your body to adjust, and I have been off the pill for quite some time, so maybe it was just a bit of a shock to my system. But no thanks."

"This birth control has offered no issues whatsoever, even at the beginning when I first started taking it. I had never been on birth control before, and I was very nervous for the side effects. However, nothing negative ever occurred. It is easy to predict my period and even skip it, as simply skipping the placebo pills and starting a new pack prevents my period. I received another birth control called Blisovi Fe after about 6 months with Larin Fe, and it gave me the worst cramps & bad depression. My pharmacy gave me Larin Fe after my last refill, and I was elated to not go through another 3 months of Blisovi Fe hell! Love the packaging as well, pills are easy to pop out."

"Decided to go back on birth control to help with my PCOS symptoms that were coming back hard from going birth control-free for 5 months, and so far it's been so-so. Originally, I was taking Junel, and it worked wonders for me. But I got prescribed this instead. I did some research and read a lot of reviews on this page and was nervous I'd have a bad reaction, but I tried to be hopeful. The 4th month in, and I've gained 20 pounds. Before I started taking Larin back in November, I was 170. I'm at 192 now. It had helped with my acne to a degree and have had mild periods, but my libido is extremely low. I feel intense cravings for sweets along with the weight gain, which I struggle with enough as is. :( I can honestly say I don't recommend. It helps, and it doesn't help. Just depends on you. I know everyone is different, but listen to these reviews and, at the very least, consider your options. I tried giving this a few months, and it wasn't worth it."

"Immediately after starting this medicine, I began gaining weight, causing self-esteem issues. I also notice a big increase in my anxiety and depression, having very dark thoughts, and almost feeling like I was in a constant state of panic. I would often cry and feel sadness for no reason, which caused me to feel extremely tired and irritable. I stopped liking things I usually loved. Don’t recommend for people that suffer with mental health."

"This was my very first time taking birth control. The pill was very easy to take. I did not have physical symptoms stated in the reviews except for sore breasts occasionally. One thing I absolutely did not like about this pill was the mood swings. This would have been the perfect pill if it didn’t affect my mood. I have fallen into near-deep anxiety and depression halfway through the second month. My boyfriend and my friends even noticed it. I wouldn’t recommend this pill to anyone who was previously depressed. I have attempted suicide on this pill, just grateful my boyfriend was there that day."

"I take this med for HRT. I hit peri-menopause early. (And I'm 47 now.) When I did have a period, I experienced rage that was simply off the charts. My OB/GYN and I agreed I needed HRT desperately. I have to say that when I started taking it, the experience was miraculous. I tolerate this medication with no side effects whatsoever, and the rage simply vanished. This medication really saved me."

"Larin is absolutely the worst thing I've ever been on! I got on Depo at 18, this was my first time getting on birth control. Depo simply worked for me. I was on Depo for almost 6 years and never had ONE SIDE effect. Skin was always crystal clear, never had a period or spotting except once or twice a year, never gained any weight, no mood swings or energy issues. I switched to Larin because of the risk of osteoporosis when on Depo. Let's just say I'm switching back to Depo next week after being on Larin for 3 months. I would much rather deal with osteoporosis than these side effects. My skin has never been this bad in my life. It's dry, and I have so much hormonal acne that won't go away (I also know it's the birth control because on the off week from the pill, my skin instantly begins to clear up). I'm so dehydrated all the time now. I've been experiencing horrible motion sickness and vomiting. My breasts are swollen and tender all the time. My energy levels and sleep patterns are horrible. 0/10"

"I enjoyed taking this birth control. I have always had severe period cramps and really bad periods, but once I began taking this medication, the cramp pain really lessened. Yes, I still get cramps, but they are way less painful than before. My periods are also a lot lighter, which is a benefit for me because I bled too much before. As for side effects, I’d say crazy mood swings here and there, but I’ve grown accustomed to the medication, so I have just been feeling good as of late. I will say that I did lose weight while on this birth control, although I don’t think there is a direct correlation, but I still eat what I want to, so it hasn’t affected my appetite too much. Overall, this is my go-to birth control because I’ve been taking it for almost 2 years, and it works for me."

"My first month on Larin Fe 1/20 was no problems. The second month, the breast pain and horrible fatigue and headaches out of nowhere started. Then the uncontrollable bleeding for daily heavy periods daily. I was weak, could not function. It is not letting up, I got a doctor's appointment on Monday. I stopped taking this pill yesterday. This pill is the worst thing ever. My doctor and I will be having a serious talk. This will be the end of me if I keep on taking it. I never had any problems with my Ortho Novum pill ever. He claimed it made my blood pressure high. Sprintec was awful for me and Junel too. So, no, I refuse to be their guinea pig any longer."

"Got put onto Larin Fe after having an allergic reaction to the Nexplanon implant. It has a very low dose of estrogen, and I didn't notice any side effects, to be honest. No breakthrough bleedings either, which tends to happen to me after three months of taking oral pills. The only thing I'm hesitant about is whether or not my anxiety has gotten worse because of the meds."
