"this is the fourth birth control I've been on and it's currently my third month on it. this pill is RUINING me and I'll be switching off of it soon. I had seen negative reviews and I decided I didn't care if I gained weight or got a little acne so I tried it anyway. I've been getting horrible panic attacks, insane mood swings and tons of periods of depressive episodes. my boyfriend even agrees that I've been acting wayyy differently. I've even felt more anti social and have been spending much more time alone and upset as compared to normal. I've gained probably 15-20 pounds and I've gotten way more acne than I usually do. I also have been spotting and cramping and I've been having crazy back pain."

LoSeasonique (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I have severe cramping (can only compare to labor contractions) on the first day of my period. My legs hurt and the pain works its way up to my stomach- and leaves me in the fetal position while waiting for meds to kick in. My gyn did a laproscopy in 2010 and it helped until 4-5 months ago. I now have a new gyn and she wants me to try a hormonal therapy (birth control) to eliminate the cramping. I was not happy about taking birth control (had bad results when I took it in my 20's). I am now on my second week of Lo Seasonique and have experienced headaches, lack of energy and no sex drive (which I was never really active anyway). I haven't taken it long enough to see how my body will react to the pain- but I am crossing my fingers. I have not had any spotting."

"Love this Birth Control. I have been on it for a few years now, and take the pill consecutivly so i don't get my period (doctors orders) because my endo pain is so bad. i do have cramps once in a while, and some break through bleeding still. i have gained weight, but not sure if it's from the pill or just a different lifestyle (in college now / eating on campus). Overall, it has improved my quality of life because it has helped with my endometriosis about 95%. I don't mind gaining some weight if i don't ever have to experience my endo pain again. Very pleased!!"

Seasonique (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I was put on this pill to hold endometriosis at bay. 7 weeks into taking the pill I got my period. It has been 9 days so far at the regular flow of my period. On my old pills, I was lucky enough to only get a period every 2 or 3 months. I am going to switch. At least on my old pills I know when I was getting my period."

Falmina (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I was prescribed this as a budget friendly (no insurance, with good rx you can get it for $14) birth control. I've been on it for around 7 months now, and so far I've had more good than bad. Its helped regulate and shorten my period, while also almost eliminating my cramps. Before I was on it I used to be bed bound for the first and last day of my period. I've lost a ton of weight on this pill, but mostly because it almost eliminated my appetite. The worst thing is the god awful hot flashes. Constantly through the day I have them and terrible night sweats that wake me up in the middle of the night, I'm in my early 20s and have never had this issue before. I deal with BPD and depression but haven't noticed a change in my stability like others have. All together I wouldn't recommend, but its also not the worst I've taken."

Quasense (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I started using Quasense to control my endometriosis during Basic Training. It worked great! I had a little cramping during the last 2 weeks of the cycle, but other than that it was worked perfectly for what I needed it to do. No spotting for me!"

Aviane (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I've been on many medicines since I found out I had endometriosis back in 2010. I've went through six surgeries and nearly every medication out there, including IDUS, Nuva Rings, Implanon, birth control pills, shots, etc. I've been on Aviane now for seven weeks; I have bleed my first three weeks into it, had two weeks of spotting, and now back to bleeding again. I have much faith that the doctor insures me that this medicine takes time to kick in. Over the last three weeks I have gotten headaches, sick to my stomach, bleeding, odd rashes on legs/leg pain. These are very minor side effects compared to some other things I've tried. Holding out hope that this works. My opinion is everyone should give it a try. Side effects are minor compared to most."

Portia (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I would never recommend Portia. I was switched from Levora to Portia after Kaiser said they didn’t have Levora anymore. The first week I started taking Portia I started to notice I was very depressed and anxious. As week two came around it only got worst. To the point where I wasn’t able to eat because of my anxiety and ended up in the hospital. I have since stopped Portia and have felt a little more normal. I would not recommend Portia to anyone because it seems like a lot of people have the same side effect depression and anxiety."

"The whole point of this pill was to help with endo and period control. I have now gotten heavy flow 3 times in one month while taking this pill not to mention the acne and cramps! Going back to Diane ED!!! Never had a problem in the 16 years I have been taking it. I was told to change because I'm older now..."

Seasonique (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I would rate Seasonique as 9 for the first 3.5 years then 1 the last year. I used Seasonique for almost 4 years. I skipped the sugar pills as I was having migraines when on the sugar pills because of the hormonal changes. It was great up until recently, my endometriosis seemed to have been contained and a cyst did also shrink (I had a surgery prior to that for a 7.5 cm cyst and endometriosis), no endometriosis pain while on Seasonique. It affected my libido but that worked on my favour as I’ve been recently divorced and have no interest in meeting men- if you are in a relationship that could be an issue. Recently however I’ve been having major depression while on Seasonique. I stopped for a month then went back to it and my depression came back. The depression got so serious that I had to stop the pill. It’s too bad I am now having this side effect because the pill did the job well previously."

LoSeasonique (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I am on my 5th week of Loseasonique. I read the reviews beforehand, but decided to give it a shot since I never had any problems with other pills (LoEstren and Ortho TriCyclen) back in the day. Unfortunately, the bad reviews were right (for me). I had a little bit of spotting for a few days around week 2, but nothing I couldn't handle. By week 4, I started spotting, and have continually spotted now going on 2 weeks, now with cramps. It's not super light spotting either. I do have to wear a panty liner every single day, and of course I don't want to have sex with my hubby either. I think I will stick it out through the first 3 month pack, but I will be more than likely try something else next round."

LoSeasonique (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I was put on LoSeasonique in October of 2010 for endometriosis. I am only 20 years old so the doctors have been trying hard to find something that will work for me and not cause life long effects. This pill did the trick. I have had nothing but happiness with it, it helps the pain of the endometriosis. My doctor gave me 6 months to try it (2 sample packs at once) to see if it worked. I was stupid and took it back to back so I didn't have a period for 6 months. I did spot and bleed for that reason. The bleeding was heavy and painful so as soon as I finished the pack I allowed myself to have an actual period before starting a new pack. Since that mistake, I only had weight gain and it was only 10 pounds. I love it."

Chateal (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "Began July 2019 for SEVERE period pains. My period was always 4 days and very regular. But my first day of bleeding came with severe cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, and pain in my rectum. I could not do anything for 18-22 hours. I decided to try birth control. PP gave me a free year supply of Chateal. No mood swings or depression and my skin is beautiful. And my cramps - GONE! I am taking the pills non-stop because I'm terrified of cramps returning. One con - I have not stopped bleeding since I began. But, the last two months have only been spotting. In the first few months I did experience minimal cramping and heavier bleeding....but I could still walk talk and work finally! This has been life changing. I may get a cramp here or there but NOTHING like before. I'm going to talk to my doc about doing the 7 day placebo pills to see if I can stop this spotting. I'm not having sex so I really don't care. Give it a try if your cramps are debilitating."

Aviane (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I have been on this birth control for about a month and a half now. I have had some side effects within the 2nd and 3rd weeks with nausea and getting sick to stomach after I ate and I did get a headache here and there. I have felt slight weight gain but nothing too too noticeable and the first few days I was a complete and total cow but that's gone away very quick. Otherwise this pill is good for me. No serious side effects .i haven't had a period yet since I went on vacation and didn't want to have it because I wasn't sure what to expect but I will have one at the end of this month. But so far so good."

Seasonique (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I was on this for 7 weeks before stopping to try to conceive. It was wonderful in that it finally took away the pelvic pain I continued to have on other pills. I had a light period within three days of stopping it. I've had two full cycles since, and they've both been shorter than usual, with a short (8-10 days) luteal phase. I'm hoping this sorts itself out soon. Unfortunately I don't see myself taking this again, because it made my migraines much more frequent, and gave me fairly bad heart palpitations. A less troubling complaint was increased acne."

LoSeasonique (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I was prescribed Loseasonique to help manage endometriosis. I’ve been on it for three months. I felt horrible the first week. I decided to give it time. My cramps and periods are worse. I got headaches, depression, increased appetite, excruciating cramps, bleeding a lot more than before; constantly changing pads. I would get no relief from analgesic or the heat pack. I am 43 years old and do not have kids. I asked my gynecologist for a hysterectomy but, she said that would push me into menopause. The whole point is for me to live as pain free as possible. I don’t care if I have a period every month I am just tired of the pain and having to miss work. I would rate this a -0. I personally don’t recommend it."

Levora (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I've been on other BCs before so I knew it would take a few weeks to adjust. Migraines: week 1 I had two migraines with auras. I have had migraines in the past, but never with auras and never this bad. I kept getting migraines and headaches until I cut out all caffeine. Acne: I know every girl reacts differently to BC but honestly if anything my acne got worse. I didn't really have a problem before this pill, but now I notice a few pimples every day. Pain: since I'm not on my period on this pill the pain is "lessened" but not gone. Instead, it's almost constant. Bleeding: I have been "spotting" every day for over 2 months. Lately I'm getting rashes and a bad smell because of wearing liners every day. For these reasons I'm stopping."

Levora (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "For endometriosis I was initially prescribed Lybrel. They stopped manufacturing so I took Amethyst - the only listed Lybrel generic - for 3 years with side effects of break through bleeding and weight gain). Three weeks ago the pharmacy gave me this indicating Amethyst no longer available, which isn't true... This med is horrible. I have been bleeding low flow for two weeks (no period in 5 years), cramps, abdominal bloat, and increased a cup for bra size. Quick changes! The intense moods swings - particularly into rage and depression - have been scary. By indicating Amethyst "ONLY" CVS will order and my Dr called in, today. Can't get off this quickly enough. Avoid if you can."

Alesse (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "My doctor prescribed me this birth control to help with the pain of endometriosis as mine was getting to be very painful. The first couple months were rough, nausea, vomiting, terrible mood swings to the point of crying at commercials! I stuck with it though and eventually levelled out. It really helped with my periods and the pain to the point that I went from calling off work for periods to barely noticing them! They lasted 4 days and were not heavy or terribly crampy. BUTTTT..... I have been on it for about 2 years and now I am getting side effects again in the form of terrible head aches every day, zero sex drive and terrible cramps during and in between periods. Also my periods have gotten heavy again so I am going off it."

Lutera (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I received this from the pharmacy a couple of different times. Each time, I fully expected it to work like 'Alesse', used to work for me. Alesse, in my past, would quell my endometriosis pain, & bloating, so wonderfully. This lutera, each time I used it, puffed, & bloated me up SO much, that I swear it's NOT the same ingredients as Alesse. It felt like a totally different god awful pill. It felt like I perpetually, was in PMS mode; bloated to a highly uncomfortable level! Something is amiss with this pill. Whether it even has levenorgestrel in it, is debatable. It needs to be scrutinized on what level of estrogen is in there, too, since generics do not have to be exact. It had horrible side effects for me. Aviane seems to work much better"

Trivora (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I started taking this birth control when I was 17 and it really changed my life. Before I started taking it I had horrible cramps right when my period started that would keep my in bed. I also had horrible PMS and would gain so much water weight before my period (up to five pounds). My PMS would also last up to week. I think it did an excellent job of leveling out my hormones throughout the month. Although I did still have minor PMS symptoms they were not nearly as bad as before I started the pill. Anyways, I recently had to go off the Trivora because I have been experiencing minor hive breakouts in the week leading up to my period, (so the doctors are trying to figure out if it has to do with the pill, or if another pill would help me more with this). However, we have not figured it out yet. If I can't find another pill that works for me I would definitely consider going back on Trivora again."

"This pill made me so nauseous for the entire time I took it - around 6 weeks. I was put on anti nausea medication and I had absolutely no appetite so I barely ate and lost a lot of weight. Not to mention I had a 20 day period on this pill, it did nothing to reduce my pain. This period was triggered when I took my pill a few hours late, maybe 6 hours late so I had to be extremely careful to take it at the exact same time everyday. It also worsened my depression. Overall this pill didn’t work well for me."

Alesse (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I've been taking this BC pill for about 4 months now (on my 4th month pack day 5) and I can tell you that the side effects are horrible and have yet to get any better. I've been having nasty headaches, insomnia, REALLY BAD depression (never been this badly depressed before), major mood swings (never had mood swings before), and days where I'm nauseated 24/7. I can hardly function. The only thing it has helped, was lesson my period pain. I feel like this pill is ruining my life more than the pain I was experiencing during my period that put me in bed for 2-3 days. I'm looking to get off of it asap, will be scheduling an appointment with my doctor very soon."

Lessina (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel) "I've been taking lessina for less than 2 months now (for my Pelvic floor myaliga )and I've had a horrible experience so far. The end of the first pack (around the 2 white pill) I started my period and the first 2 days were fine (other than the fact that I'm constantly in pain) but the 3rd day I was terrible I went through 6 pads with a bunch of clots mind you I've never had clots with a period before. So I had to go to the ER. Which they had to give me IV fluids and pain medication because the pain I had was so much worse than just the usually periods I get. They told me it was from the BC. And I should be switched right away. I also suffer from depression as it is and I've just haven't been able to pick myself up. I've been on so many BCs and nothing helps."
