"I started taking Alesse as soon as I turned 19. This is my 4th month on it. I never got any side affects such as nausea, headaches and spotting like I was warned :) But right after I finished my first batch, I got bad PMS symptoms (cravings, breast tenderness, and mood swings) until my first period arrived a couple days later. The following batches after that were fine. My periods came on time every month, flow was lighter, no cramps, less PMS symptoms, and the duration of my period was noticeably shorter too. Slowly gained an insignificant 5 pounds over the last four months. I rarely get break outs but got a few big annoying pimples on my face at first. Alesse does it's job as a contraceptive and I recommend it."

"I've been taking Alesse 28 for just over a year and its dramatically changed my period, for the better. My flow used to be heavy and 7-10 days with EXTREME cramps! I am now down to 2-3 days with a light flow and manageable cramps. My cycle has always been on schedule so it didn't change that aspect much. I should add I'm 19 and this is the first and only birth control I've tried and I think it works great."

"I've been on this pill Alesse -28 since I was 17 and I am 21 now, at first it was really good I had bad acne on my cheeks and long heavy periods. I think now that my body is changing I am getting acne on my chin and I get bad headaches before my period, none-rarely any sex drive and I cry literally at everything (especially the week before my period) I did love this birth control at first but now I don't think it's working for me anymore."

"I have tried taking this medication three times already. Every time I got very depressed and my mood was all over the place. I started again ten days ago and yesterday I had a terrible anxiety attack and I find myself crying about anything. This is ver unusual in me since I am usually a non-depressed, very happy person. I never read any reviews until now and I realize lots of people have gone through the same as me. I will stop the pill today and touch it again."

"I've been taking this pill for about 8 months now. My periods have been noticeably different. They almost always come on time, they are heavy for 1-2 days and then are extremely light for the rest of the week. My cramps are not painful anymore, and my acne on my back cleared up nicely. (I didn't have much acne any where else in the first place). However, I have been having abnormal discharge that I've associated with the pill. I'm not 100% sure, but the timing adds up. Otherwise it's been a good experience."

"The first year on Alesse-28 I had no symptoms. Year two I noticed thinning of my hair and now have a small bald spot in the front hairline. My boobs are tender and my sex drive is lower. The hair loss is the worst. I'm going to try a progesterone only pill. I hope my hair grows back..."

"I lost my sex drive entirely when I got on Alesse-28. I got yeast infections from the progesterone. I'm being switched to another type of birth control. However it was nice regulating my periods and having less bleeding. My boobs also grew a little."

"The first couple of months of taking this pill I had no side effects or abnormal bleeding. I’ve been taking the pill for nine months now, my acne has completely cleared and my period is very light. As far as side effects go, this pill has definitely caused me to feel more depressed but has helped with my anxiety. Its done its job for preventing pregnancy, although I’ve always used condoms to be safe. I don’t recommend skipping the placebo pills to skip your period, as I did that and I had abnormal bleeding a couple weeks later which gave me a pretty big pregnancy scare. Overall, I would recommend to anyone to try going on this pill because everyone’s response to it will be different and it’s worth a try."

"Basically every time I took the pink pill an hour late I would get my period until I finished the white. So I would sometimes have my period for 15 days which was absolutely awful. It fixed my acne a bit and reduced my cramps slightly but I’m so sick of having my period for half the month."

"I've been on Alessa for almost 5 years and this is the first time I ever took a look at the reviews. I really haven't found it bad at all. Moodiness and weight gain are my chief complaints but other than that I love the super regular periods."

"I am currently starting my placebo pills on my second month and let me tell you that my acne is worse than it has ever been in my life. I regret taking this pill so much because now I have painful, large, red cysts in random places all over my cheeks, chin and jaw area. I have had acne before but never to such degree. My face literally flared up around the 10th day. I guess all the hormones kicked in that day because my skin was fine and the next day I flared up. The worst is that they are all staying as bright red scars. I have never had such low self- esteem. I don't even want to leave the house right now (even WITH makeup). the only 2 good things is that my boobs grew a lot and after the first month of horrible mood swings it goes away"

"I have been on alesse for 1.5 years now and can say that I got a lot of side effects that birth control is usually supposed to help against. Before birth control my periods were 5-7 days and heavy, no pain or cramps at all and no acne. After alesse my skin is really bad and I get the worse cramping and back pain right before and for the first 3 days of period. The only reason I have stayed on this is because it is effective at coming on the same day and I have no problems with irregular periods. No problem with weight gain or being emotional (thank goodness) but I just went to my doctor and recently told her about my problems and have just been switched to a brand with a higher concentration. Here is hoping for better results."

"This is my 3rd day of taking Alesse. I switched from Loestrin 24 FE because my insurance would only cover $4 and was asking me to pay $67 for it. I am trying birth control to see if it may help even out my migraines. So far, not good. I am going on day 2 of a horrible migraine. I think once my body readjusts to the medicine, my headache will go away. I was the same way with the Loestrin. I'm not sure about any other side effects as my migraine has masked everything else."

"Aleswse worked well for lightening periods and controlling PMS for four years. Had some irregular breakthrough bleeding a few times. I did get pregnant on this pill despite taking it perfectly. Worked fine for four years prior. May just not work well with me long term. Or may have unknown interactions causing failure."

"I was on this birth control for 4 months and the first month I was on it I was on my period for 18 days, every month since then I’ve had two periods a month each around 10 days where my period only used to be 5. I had no appetite at all and I lost a lot of weight, I woke up nauseous almost everyday as well as experienced random UTI like symptoms every month for a few days at a time. I can say it did do it’s job at preventing pregnancy but that’s about it and the side effects that came with it were not worth it, however this is just my experience! :)"

"I love this birth control!! I have been on Alesse for over a month and have experienced absolutely no negative side effects. My mood is normal, I have no abnormal bleeding, no weight gain, no increase in appetite. My breasts feel much fuller now which I love! My first period was normal, and I only had cramps on the first day of my period. I have very acne-prone skin and tend to break out with hormonal acne. Since taking this birth control, my acne had not gotten worse. It has stayed mostly the same but my skin is always better in the summer. But I have not had any large cystic acne breakouts so far so I'm fine with it. I was previously on Yasmin for acne management, however, that birth control made my acne far worse and I had other negative side effects. Aleese is definitely worth trying because it has a lower dosage of hormones so you are less likely to experience negative side effects like in other birth controls. I would recommend Aleese to anyone!"

"It did what it was supposed to in the way of not allowing pregnancy however it caused horrible side affects. Coming onto it I had acne for months which went away but returned for months when I came off. I would have random mental breakdowns, weight gain, depression and anxiety."

"First and foremost, I was prescribed this by my family doctor as a way of preventing pregnancy and regulating my period. It has been 8 months since I have been on Alesse/AlySena regularly and I have missed 3 periods in a row. I’m not pregnant, but it did give me major scares and even though I revived NEGATIVE tests, constantly use condoms and haven’t had sex since late July (because I don’t have any sex drive) I still fear that I am pregnant. Other than that, I am on 2 other anti-depressants / anxiety medications to regulate my serotonin and anxiety and this could honestly be the reason as to why Alesse has been so crappy for me. Granted,I am in my first year of university and I attempt to take it at the same time every day however it may be a few hours late simply because it slipped my mind and this is the kind of birth control you can’t do that with. I am calling my doctor ASAP to get off of it and onto a new one that doesn’t give me a heart attack once a month."

"Have been on this medication for over a year. The first 6 months I never really had any issues. My periods were a bit lighter and the cramping had improved significantly. After six months of use I started to get very nauseous because of this medication. I take it before going to bed and about 6 hours later I would wake up and be throwing up for a few minutes. About 20 min to half hour I would usually be ok. Some days though I relied on anti-nausea tablets just to be able to get a little bit of food in me. I continued to take it but now I'm getting an IUD so I can finally abandon this pill"

"I have mixed opinions on this birth control pill Alesse-28. The first few months I was on it there were no issues and it has worked as birth control, but my doctor assured me it would lighten my flow. It has in fact increased it and I still get cramps every month. I bleed through super tampons in an hour. I've had pregnancy scares as my periods have been late multiple times despite me taking it perfectly. Lately I've been getting extremely over emotional on this pill and it has worsened my mental condition. I will be asking to be taken off this pill."

"I've been on this birth control for nearly two years and never experienced any symptoms except for growth in the chest and hips but no more than maybe 5 pounds of weight gain. I've never had any accidents and it's very easy to use."

"I noticed weight gain, irritability, and worsening of depressive symptoms when I first started taking Alesse a few years back however I stopped as the symptoms were just too much for me to endure. After taking a two year break, I started again as I have severe periods and my OBGYN suggested to take a pill each day without a break as I am done having children to completely stop my period. That is the only good thing I can say about this product. I ended up developing such severe swelling in my calves and ankles that I couldn't put my shoes on past the early morning after a week, couldn't kneel by week two because the water retention was so bad it would completely cut off my circulation in my legs, and I had gained 15 lbs by week three. I stopped taking my daily pill (now on day two) and the water retention/swelling is finally dissipating."

"Had to share because I think my experience is unusual. Not many bad side effects. I had good skin before (never broke out), and good skin on it. Average periods before, light after. First month of use I had night sweats (no one ever mentions this). I've struggled with losing weight my whole life, and this is the first time ever that I don't feel that dark void hunger. Maybe I was missing hormones, but somehow this pill has reduced my appetite and emotional eating. I have a clean diet, no processed food, and have been sugar-free for 4 years so didn't expect to gain, but whoa I didn't expect it would lower appetite. It made my libido very high too, which is the opposite of everything I read. All I ever got was night sweats, some cramps, and bloating. I feel so balanced. I'm 32, and this is my first hormonal BC."
