"I switched from an IUD to the ring and I really wish I hadn't. I've been on this ring since April of 2021 and it's now July. I can safely say this birth control the worst birth control for me. I asked for Nuvaring because I remember really liking it when I tried it about 6 years ago. They gave me this generic and I've never disliked intensely a BC as much as I do this one. My breasts are always sore. Constantly so. I have one mood now and it's always bad. I'm either depressed and not talking and kind of in a weird zombie state or I'm just in a general low mood. I have no sex drive anymore. I actually get mad if my boyfriend suggests it and that's not like me. I've also developed vision issues, terrible back pain and dark spots on my face that only started after I began taking this medication. I wish I had never touched this and I'm looking forward to getting another IUD. Last time I'll put synthetic hormones in my body."

"Worst birth control EVER!! I was on the Nuvaring for years and have had no problems I loved it! This thing is crap. I’m constantly spotting. My periods were super regular and always lasted 4 days. Now I will be on my period for weeks then I spot randomly when I’m not. It’s sometimes painful to have sex. I have legit had such bad anxiety and depression! One night I broke down and told my husband I was suicidal!! Horrible headaches feeling nauseous and tired all the time. I have thought multiple times I’m prego because of the side effects I was having. HORRIBLE Birth control I would rather use condoms then deal with this rubbish. Do NOT use this. It honestly should be recalled"

"I have used a lot of different birth controls in my 23 years of life and I was on nuva ring on and off the longest and I loved it had no problems except my libido was a bit less but I had extremely bad periods before it and would be out of school of work that whole week, other birth controls make me feel like I have morning sickness but this euryng has been the worst I had it in for less then 24 hours and I have never felt so sick in my life, it woke me up I felt like I was either going to poop my self or vomit all over the bathroom, as soon as I took it out I started feeling better, never using that again"

"I switched back to the other generic NuvaRing (made by Prasco) and I am back to normal. I had to get an override from my insurance company and had to make a bunch of calls, but it's been well worth it. I had one month of misery on the EluRyng (anxiety, itchy arms and legs, headaches etc.). I am so glad I read everyone's posts and reached out to my doctor. I really thought that all generics were the same, but I was clearly wrong."

"Honestly, I feel like I got lucky. Maybe it has something to do with me having no prior experience with the NuvaRing. This is my first birth control method, and I'm using the generic. So far, I have only experienced some mild nausea and mood swings, both of which are tolerable. After the first month, my period came in right when I expected it, and there was no spotting at all before the period whatsoever. I can't be too mad, granted it cost me nothing, and it works. But I'm sorry to hear about other womens' negative experiences with the NR generic."

"I had an allergic reaction to the EluRyng . My vagina was puffy and inflamed. My vaginal secretions felt like battery acid. Not even kidding. Put it in once, had a reaction, took it out reaction abated, then put it back in and it started all over again."

"I was using the Nuvaring for several months and I was very please with it, never had any side effects. One day my Insurance switch me for the generic Eluryng. It causes me vaginal itch during the first couple of days after insertion. I’ve been having morning headaches. My stomach feels bloated. I had mild depression and anxiety in the pass which was under control but this medication set it off. For the last two cycles, one or two days after I removed the ring, I experienced a terrible headache that will not go away for a day. I’ve never had a headache like those before. At the same time I’m experiencing weakness, palpitations, and cold sweat, light headed the week the ring is out. I called the insurance and the doctor needs to request an approval to put me back in the Nuvaring. They said it shouldn’t be a problem. Looking forward to get back on the brand"

"Last year, I picked up my birth control and the packaging looked different. When I looked more closely and saw this was a generic, I was shocked. My doctor had not prescribed it nor had my insurance company alerted me to any change but wanting to stay on my schedule, I tried it. This was an absolute mistake. Within days I was having terrible burning and discharge. As most women do, I decided to power through. This wasn't a good idea because things only got worse. Then came the cramps, back pain, spotting, insane mood swings, and unbelievable weight gain. I gained about 10 lbs in about 6 weeks. That is not normal! Not to mention that all of the symptoms only got worse with time. I was suffering. I went to my gyno and found out that this was an allergic reaction. In addition, my psychiatrist and endocrinologist have all had problems with their patients and EluRyng. I've had to fight my insurance company to get Nuvaring covered."

"This is my third week on Eluryng and it’s horrible. I have used brand name nuvaring and a different generic and have never had side effects like these. On this generic, I have experienced near constant anxiety, itchiness on my arms and legs, nausea, and bowel problems. I didn’t connect the itchiness to the ring until I read other posts. I feel like I am going to have a panic attack at least once a day and have cried at minor things (like not wanting to cook chicken for dinner one night). It’s also fallen out a few times, which rarely ever happened with the other two. I have been using a lot of deep breathing and grounding exercises to combat the anxious feelings. No one should have to tolerate these side effects. I have three more days left on this ryng and then will never be using it again."

"I had the worst reaction to Eluryng. It caused really bad nausea and headaches but I figured it was just my hormones adjusting themselves. That was until my vagina completely swelled up, it was throbbing, I was getting shooting pains, and it was bright red. It was incredibly painful and it began two weeks after taking it. I recently stopped and now I feel so much better. Don’t recommend whatsoever."

"Main Take Away: Trust your Gut! I used Elurying for nearly a 1yr and 6 months. Should have stopped sooner. The first 6 months I had little to none side effects. It was easy to use and trustworthy. After about a year though, I began to notice weight gain, bloating, stomach pain, and a constant need to eat. I could never skip a meal or it felt like death. It's easy to think that maybe it's just in your head or another factor with birth control but trust what you feel! -I'm now 6 months off it and I no longer have stomach bloat or pain. I've gone down 10 pounds and I think I may still lose more."

"I avoided this for too long due to reviews here but I don't want to pay $$$ for Nuvaring and Annovera gave me two week periods so I gave EluRyng a shot. It has been an amazing, easy experience. Super light, regular periods and no pms or nausea (which nuvaring gave me). I recommend giving it a try despite the scary reviews since everyone is different."

"I would not recommend this to anyone. Like many other reviewers I was I on on the nuvaring and had no issue. Honestly, it was the ideal birth control. My Insurance no longer can cover nuvaring and I was given this generic brand. I am never one to look down on generic brands (food, cleaning products etc) so I didn’t mind. However 1.5 years later I wish I would’ve taken the change seriously. I have gained SO much weight. I don’t even look the same I went from a size 4/6 to a size 10/12. On top of that during my time with the birth control I was so anxious to the point of nausea. Before any social event I needed to drink so much to calm down. I was just an anxious mess! I decided to get off this terrible birth control end of July (about 4 months ago). I feel mentally better and I can actually go places without being drunk! I am working out and finally seeing results! I went from 215 to 193- I have a lot more to go but this is progress! I wouldn’t recommend this birth control"

"Used this per prescription directions (as I did Nuvaring) I keep it at the proper temp, and practice safe sex otherwise, and did not get me period at all the week of my period week. Mind you, I do not remove it at anytime nor do I overextend the usage.Reading more reviews about how other women also have not gotten a period while trying this new Eluryng vs. Nuvaring."

"NuvaRing honestly changed my life for the better. I was switched to the EluRyng by my insurance and told by the pharmacy it was the exact same. Nearly two years of suffering and I've come to realize EluRyng is the culprit. it has caused me horrible fatigue, constant discharge/yeast infections, heavier more painful periods, worsened ADHD symptoms and reduced the effectiveness of my ADHD medication, increased frequency of debilitating cluster headaches/ocular migraines, worsened abdominal pain and bloating, leg cramps and muscle pains, irregular spotting, and insane sugar cravings. I use it continuously to skip periods, as I did with NuvaRing before, and the first week of EluRyng is somewhat comparable to NuvaRing, but the second and third bring on all the symptoms worse and worse each day and the last few days before the new one are debilitating - I basically feel like I have the flu and can't work or do anything. It should be illegal to tell ppl this drug is the same as NuvaRing"

"I began this early February after a year without the nuvaring. I used nuvaring for 5 years before and loved it with my whole heart, used the pill before and the ring made it so much easier for me with no issues or side effects. The Eluryng has broken me out pretty horribly and decreased my sex drive massively but worse than that it’s made my anxiety 10 times worse to the point where I stopped my newer dosage of anti depressants for a week (that had been working very well!) to see if that was the cause and it was not, this has sent me into a deep depression period. Really wish I’d have read more on this first but thought I would be getting the nuva ring. Took about 2 months for me to determine this was definitely the eluryng and I took it out. If you have any issues with mental health I would not even take a chance on this and I hope I can get back on the nuvaring."

"I do not understand how this drug is on the market. It's a shame that health insurance companies feel they have the medical prowess to change medications that have such a negative impact on women's lives and it seems like it's on a very large scale. And the fact that we live in a world where men can't even handle a birth control STUDY based on these types of symptoms saddens me. Something needs to be done, because this simply is not ok! I am currently battling with health insurance to get the name brand after 9 horrible months on generic without knowledge of them changing it. I had severe depression, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, irregular periods, shedding hair, loss of appetite...I could go on and I went to so many doctors trying to figure out why this was happening. If you recently changed to generic, stop taking it right away! I hope to feel better soon once I change back to name brand soon."

"My insurance stopped paying for Nuvaring (which worked perfectly and had little to no side effects) and then I started Eluryng. Over the year I was on it I gained and kept on 30lbs and developed debilitating migraines."

"I began cramping as soon as I inserted it until the day of my cycle that I was supposed to remove it. I became angry and depressed and anxious and even suicidal. I stopped torturing myself after one month, and didn't use Eluryng again. All of these symptoms were relieved after the ring was gone. This medication is a disaster. I weep for my fellow sisters."

"I feel like the oddball out, but I LOVED EluRyng. I was on it for years until my prescription plan changed and my insurance will now ONLY cover NuvaRing... go figure. The first month has been awful - I haven't stopped bleeding, I've been bloated, anxious, and on the higher end of the 150s in terms of weight, where normally it's almost always 148 (no changes in diet). I want to go back!! I could never tell (side effect-wise) that it was there, so I really hope based on all of these opposite reviews it takes this month to adjust, and then I'm in the clear."

"I was switched without knowing in the start of Jan 2020. A few months went by and I was having abdominal pain, moodiness, joint pain, and discomfort in my lower abdomen during sex. I spent the next year getting tested for a UTI almost every other month bc I was sure something was off. Nov 2020 I noticed my hair had been falling. Come Jan 2021 I put my ring in for the month and I woke up the next morning with horrible pain and SEVERE vaginal swelling. My body was trying to push the ring out I think, because the ring was pretty much sitting right at the opening. I removed the ring, felt a little better and the swelling went down. I went into the doctor the next day just to test 1 more time if it was a UTI. Its May and I'm still having abdominal pain, bleeding during sex, etc. A lot of people stopped using their rings 3ish months after prescribed, but I kept mine in for much longer. DONT USE ELURYNG. If you can't get the regular nuvaring brand anymore, just go ahead and get an IUD."

"I’m surprised to see so many negative reviews on the Eluryng, I know everyone’s experience can be different, I was on the Nuvaring for about 7 months until my insurance switched me to the Eluryng, I’ve been on it for about a year, so far I had a great experience with it, I didn’t notice any difference from the Brand name to the generic, except that the Eluryng is squishier and more flexible. I didn’t get any weight gain or mood swings. No headaches or anxiety. It has cleared my skin and helps knowing when my periods will come, I have the app to remind me. Overall I give it a 9, I have nothing negative to say about it. Except that it’d be nice if it came with an applicator."

"I had been on Nuvaring but insurance would no longer cover it, so I was switched to EluRyng. I started getting migraines twice a week or more (I used to get them 3-4 times a year). Weight gain and horrible anxiety and depression. I’ve been crying, depressed and feeling suicidal. I’ve never had depression or these kinds of thoughts before. I’ve been taking my anxiety medicine daily to try and cope. My hair has also started shedding noticeably. Big fistfuls come out in the shower. I just took the ring out yesterday. I really hope my body can get back to normal. I really regret trying this."

"HORRIBLE. Be careful using this. After 10 years on Nuvaring happily loving it 6 months on Eluryng and I gained 15 pounds, had terrible mood swings, SEVERE depression and suicidal thoughts, anger, overall lack of energy, zero sex drive. My periods were worse than they were off BC. I couldn't figure out what it was that was causing all of this until I figured out it. Nuvaring and Eluryng are NOT the same and this drug needs to be recalled it's extremely dangerous. Has anyone had luck getting on Nuvaring again? I saw it was discontinued and my pharmacy no longer has it. I'm so upset."

"I’VE GAINED SO MUCH WEIGHT ON ELURYNG. I’m disgusted. My insurance forced me to be on the off NuvaRing and switch to this awful version of it called EluRyng. Within the last year of switching I’ve gained 30 pounds. I was skinny before, I had a high metabolism, as does all of my family. I was dumbfounded at my weight gain. I did bloodwork and assumed maybe I had a thyroid issue, nope. I ate good and worked out more, but continued to gain weight. I felt like I was swimming against the current. My body had erupted in stretch marks with the sudden gain, and I’ve cried too many times to count in frustration. After researching, it’s the EluRyng that’s caused this. I started gaining weight after I switched birth controls, nothing else has changed. And after seeing other reviews, I’m not alone in this. Please research fully before you decide to take this awful drug!"
