"I am 36 years old and have been off and on birth control medications over my lifetime. I have tried Nuvaring before and had no issues. I barely felt I was on birth control at all with it for over a year. Then I went off to go all natural. Then as my periods got longer over the year or so off I decided to get back on. I was given Eluryng instead of nuvaring and it was rough. I only stayed on it one cycle because I had every side effect possible. I was moody, angry, anxious and tired. I also got my period on day 15 and spotted for a week after. It was the worst experience I’ve had on any birth control!"

"I actually really love EluRyng. I was on various pills for 10+ years and hated them all. Every few years, I started experiencing monthly breakthrough bleeding no matter which pill I switched to. I read that a localized hormone like a ring might be a better option for me, and it is! No acne (and I’m very sensitive to hormonal acne), periods are regular, no breakthrough bleeding, cramping is manageable, and I’ve had no noticeable change in mood or weight. I travel frequently for work, and I love not having to take a pill every day at the same time. I take it out during intimacy and put it back in, and it hasn’t been a problem. I have also been able to skip periods if I want and experience no other side effects. There are a lot of bad reviews, but this works so well for me and I’m so grateful I switched to it."

"I was using nuvaring for approximately a year when I was switched to eluryng. I thought nothing of it, as generics are usually the same product with different labeling. A month later I thought I was pregnant. I could not find the energy to do daily tasks, and my controlled depression became difficult to handle again. My breasts felt sore, I felt nauseous and I got headaches easier than usual. And my period was way off. Two at home pregnancy tests came back negative. But all of these symptoms weren't leaving, and I now have full blown migraines every other day. Then I realised the only thing in my routine that changed is eluryng. I started researching and found that all of my symptoms are side effects of eluryng. I will be discussing this with my physician. This product gets a 1/10 for me because I didn't get pregnant, but with all the symptoms I experienced, I may as well have been."

"Like others here, I’ve experienced more than noticeable side effects after being switched from NuvaRing to the generic brand by my insurance this May. I had been on NuvaRing for more than a decade with no issues whatsoever. Since being on the generic, my periods have been heavier with spotting in between, along with a 30 lb weight gain. I would say that about 10-15 lbs of this weight gain was due to quarantine (not being as active with gyms shutting down, spending more time at home and snacking, etc) but in the last few weeks since I’ve been on the generic I have ballooned in size. Truly alarming. I have also experienced increased anxiety, fatigue bordering on narcolepsy, and have been restlessly kicking in my sleep, where I previously never had any sleeping issues."

" Where do I start? I started this medication on July 25, 2020 and ended it on August 4th. I am going back to pills unless I can get my hands on the name brand. First of all, the nausea. The prolonging my period after I inserted it. Then, on day FOUR I was rushed to the ER because my leg started going numb out of NO WHERE. I began questioning a lot of things I was doing in life, including a new relationship and graduate school. My depression worsened and my anxiety shot through the roof. I am NEVER taking this again. I'm not even sure why this is on the market! Check if your insurance covers the NuvaRing before deciding to go on this one. I took it out because I began having chest pains out of no where and it mimicked having a blood clot in my chest. No."

"I started this EluRyng a month ago. I take it out tomorrow. My doc gave me the nuvaring but I went to the place and got a eluring instead or whatever. I've never had fatigue like this. I call it beached whale syndrome. I can't get up or do anything and I feel loopy. I also don't sleep. I have conflicting moods like anxiety and depression and am on edge easily. I can't eat food a lot. I feel prego. I have vertigo and migraines. The migraines feel like I got stung on the head. And I can't walk straight so I had to call out for work which I already have anxiety over. These migraines last all day. Sometimes I'll take a glass of hard liquor to help. I've been eating a crazy ton of bananas though for it. I don't think I wanna continue this medication. My sex drive is nonexistent. But hey. I do love estrogen. My IUD caused me lots of problems and this makes me wetter and less uncomfortable. So at least the infections are gone."

"I was not informed by my insurance about the switch from brand Nuvaring to generic Elurung. The switch happened in July 2020 and I didn’t think anything of it at first. It’s now the end of November and I am never touching this trash again. Eluryng NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. In July leading into August, I began to have rolling vertigo migraines. I didn’t think anything of it at first as I’ve been prone to migraines in the past and as a teacher, I’m in front of a screen all day so I wrote it off as a new work from home (WFH) issue. I should have listened to my body. In the months to follow, I began to have painful periods, mood swings, and breast tenderness. End October and leading into November, I had the heaviest period of my life that is just now coming to an end. I began to think about the factors affecting this change and everything pointed to one factor: Eluryng. This “medication” is absolute worse. I’m working with my insurance and doctor to get put back on the brand name."

"I'm so glad that I found this thread. So the 1st month I got this generic Eluryng I got pregnant. No joke. Thus is my 2nd time using it. Used it to the letter and out of nowhere I started bleeding. Bright red blood on day 21. This is so weird. I'm definitely going to have to get back to the original. I never had a problem with the original nuvaring even when I was irresponsible with putting it in late. Never got preggo, no breakthrough bleeding. Nothing. Now I'm in crisis mode. Out of town, randomly bleeding at my in-laws house and scared that I might be pregnant again. "

"I got EluRyng as a substitute for my usual NuvaRing because my pharmacy didn’t have any name-brand. Honestly so much worse than NuvaRing. I thought they would be somewhat comparable, but EluRyng gave me acne, I was always feeling nauseous, got really bad mood swings, and always had to take it out during sex. Instead of being flexible like NuvaRing, this ring is hard and hurts a lot during sex! I do not recommend unless this is your last resort. Other than the side effects though, it seems to be as effective as the NuvaRing."

"I was in tears last week reading all of these comments. I used Nuvaring for 7 years with no issues. In July 2020, I was switched to Eluryng. Never had issues with my period while using it so didn't connect the issues I've had for over 2 years now to the generic version being different. I shared with a friend last week that I think I'm already in perimenopause at 35 because there's no explanation for all the symptoms I have and all my tests come back normal. I've gained 25 pounds in the last couple years and no matter how hard I work out or cut calories nothing works. I've had the worse extreme fatigue, migraines for days, crazy anxiety, heart palpitations, ZERO libido, leg cramps at night, insomnia, horrible mood swings, depression, dark self harm thoughts, fogginess, and my vision has changed significantly 3 times in the last year and a half. I took my ring out 8 days ago and already have so much more energy. Getting the hubby snipped and done with this poison!!"

"I used NuvaRing for 3+ years, before my pharmacy switched me to the EluRyng for some reason. I assumed it would be the same, but I was so wrong. Enter low libido, painful sex, increased anxiety, among other things (none of them pleasant). Nuvaring got rid of my period cramps before BC but they are present with Eluryng. I was considering switching to the patch or injection until discovering my experience mimicked many others'. I will be switching back to the Nuvaring as soon as possible. If you are considering switching, please know they are NOT the same drug and the nuvaring is far superior. I wish I had known earlier. I spend around 9 months on Eluryng. I didn't get pregnant, so I guess it accomplished it's main job, but if I knew these side affects would happen I would have never used this med. So disappointed."

"I tried this generic because it was cheaper, and I don't have insurance. The first time I tried, it gave me Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) so badly that I thought I had blood clots. To reiterate, I had no insurance, so it was very VERY scary. I went back to the Nuvaring at over $170 a pop, and the symptoms eventually went away. When I googled RLS, it can be caused by an iron deficiency. This month I decided to try Eluryng again because I had bought multiple when it first came out. I upped my iron and vitamin intake the months before so I figured I was good, and I had a Nuvaring in the fridge just in case. Surprise surprise, RLS is back! I switched immediately back to the Nuvaring. Eluryng was a horrible, scary, anxiety-ridden, painful experience that I won't ever fall for again!"

"If this would let me give it a zero out of 10 I would! Recently had a hard time getting NuvaRing approved, despite being on it for YEARS. So I gave this Eluryng a try because I was forced to. I and this thing only lasted 8- 9 days. Let me just say that I’ve had the worst migraines, insomnia, fatigue, delirium, and mood swings. The worst was the headaches and migraines for me. It felt like my brain was in knots, definitely fog brain too. No exaggeration I took it out and felt normal again within 12 hours. This is not it for me. I need my OB/GYN to work a little harder on getting my approval. I refuse to go back on this."

"Awful product. My side effects included: yeast infection, vaginal irritation, painful heavy bleeding (6 weeks), acne on my jawline and ears, anxiety/panic attacks, nausea/vomiting, extreme breast tenderness, insomnia, insane mood swings, self harm, and depression so severe I almost had to check into inpatient psych care. My relationship almost ended because I went fully nuts. I didn't experience a single positive emotion the entire time I was on this BC. The FDA should take this off the market. DON'T put this in your body."

"I have used Nuvaring for about 8 years, and then was suddenly switched to Eluring. I have never had an issue with Nuvaring! But when I switched to Eluring, in the first year of using it I've had it break inside of me 2-3 times. I just put a ring in two days ago, and it just broke. I'm having issues with this brand, but unfortunately the pharmacy doesn't offer Nuvaring."

"This was the absolute WORSE! I was on it for 2 weeks and could not fathom the idea of dealing with the side effects any longer than that! I felt sick, had a headache, felt constantly on edge, my stomach was upset, nauseated, bloated and my breasts were swollen. It interrupted my entire day! I took it upon myself to pay out of pocket for Nuvaring and I have no regrets on that decision. What’s awful is that all the medication coupons online are ONLY for Eluryng! How can you force a medication on women that is making them feel so incredibly ill?"

"I was on the brand name NuvaRing for years and started it due to continuous spotting from the pill. I absolutely loved the brand name NuvaRing but 3 months ago was forced to switch to this garbage generic ring due to insurance now only covering this. Since starting the generic, I have now been spotting again (especially after sex) and have had heavier periods and sore breasts. It is ridiculous that my insurance gets to dictate which medication I take because I am now having the same issues that the brand name NuvaRing eliminated for me. Trying to figure out how to budget for the brand name because the generic is terrible and I can't go back to the pill either."

"Been on the NuvaRing for years with no issue. Was forced to switch because of insurance and it has been awful ever since. I’ve experienced migraines that literally put me in bed along with cramps that will make me pause in the middle of a step. My cycle was three to four days with the generic I bled for two weeks straight. I’m switching birth control because I cannot deal with the negative side effects. This drug needs to taken off the shelves."

"I have been on nuvaring for 10+ years. Never any issues. I was switched to the generic (eluryng) and I have had nothing but issues. Bloating is my #1 complaint but also constipation, mood swings, nausea. At one point I thought I was pregnant. I will pay full price for nuvaring if thats what it comes down to. My body can't handle Eluryng!!"

"I was also forced to switch to the generic. I will be on my 3rd one. First month no major side effects ...but I did get my period 3 days before usual. I'm on my period week and I've barely had any spotting. I'm low key freaking out... will be putting in my 3rd one tomorrow. Wish me luck!"

"I’ve been using NuvaRing for years then was forced to switch to this generic version the past couple months. Let me tell you, avoid it at all costs. I’ve had mood swings x100, spotting the whole time, horrible cramps and headaches. I’ve never had such mixed dramatic moods in my life. I’ll be blessed if I don’t ruin any relationships I have with anyone. I’m thankful for reviews that are very similar, I feel less crazy but this generic version is BAD. To top it off my birthday is next week, no big deal *EYE ROLL*"

"Hello; after reading these comments, I feel justified. I’ve been feeling the absolute worst, for the last 2 months, without any obvious cause. I’ve spoken to my dr about this mystery illness, gotten bloodwork done, all to no avail. After my insurance switched me to EluRyng from NuvaRing 2 months ago, without telling me, I have literally wondered why I feel so bad. I have had a constant- and I do mean constant- headache. Every single day. I’ve had bouts of nausea and vomiting, I’ve lost 5lbs this month. I’ve never been so fatigued in my life. My anxiety, that has been under control, has been off the charts and I’m snapping at people for no reason. I’ve had absolutely no sex drive, which is unusual. And we hate to say it- but we shouldn’t- suicidal thoughts. This is the worst “medication” out there. And I really hope you read this BEFORE you also experience these symptoms and find yourself on google, because you think you’re wondering on how to keep living."

"I was on NuvaRing for YEARS with no side effects. I was switched to Eluryng about five months ago - despite eating super healthy and working out HARD I have gained 10+ pounds and my breasts are always super super tender. I've also started breaking out. Just bad - I'm getting switched off as soon as possible. Don't believe anyone when they say generic is the same!"

"I’ve been on EluRyng for about a month now. So far it’s been the best birth control I’ve tried. My period was lighter and came on time, I had little to no cramping, no nausea, appetite is the same, stable mood, and I'm feeling a lot better overall. The only thing I’ve noticed is a little bit more acne but I don’t mind. I’ve tried 10 different birth control pills to help with my ovarian cysts and endo and each one was a horrible experience. Don’t let reviews scare you everyone is different this has worked great for me so far!"

"I switched from an IUD to the ring and I really wish I hadn't. I've been on this ring since April of 2021 and it's now July. I can safely say this birth control the worst birth control for me. I asked for Nuvaring because I remember really liking it when I tried it about 6 years ago. They gave me this generic and I've never disliked intensely a BC as much as I do this one. My breasts are always sore. Constantly so. I have one mood now and it's always bad. I'm either depressed and not talking and kind of in a weird zombie state or I'm just in a general low mood. I have no sex drive anymore. I actually get mad if my boyfriend suggests it and that's not like me. I've also developed vision issues, terrible back pain and dark spots on my face that only started after I began taking this medication. I wish I had never touched this and I'm looking forward to getting another IUD. Last time I'll put synthetic hormones in my body."
