For GERD "This medicine is toxic. After weeks of stopping my medication, I now have. 1. Muscle twitching 2. Nerve problems 3. Back, legs, shoulder pains (although my leg and shoulder pain have decreased) 4. Weight loss (I managed to recover my lost weight). 5. Vision problems (Although I think it has something to do with a wrong prescription glasses) 6. Anxiety / Panic Attacks I do not recommend taking this drug. If you want to reduce your stomach acid, I recommend Gaviscon and other antacids. NEVER USE PPIs."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for NSAID-Induced Gastric Ulcer "It helps so much. Before this, my life was miserable with the morning nausea then vomiting tons of acid straight from the stomach. It is not a way to live. We need to be grateful we have resources such as Nexium and other options to help and to treat these conditions. I know for sure in my case!"

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "Please be aware that this medication can cause anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. Supposedly, it is a rare side effect, but I don’t have any allergies and I’ve never reacted to a medication like that before. When I was 19 years old (now 28) I had major stomach issues. I was diagnosed with gastritis and given this medication. I will never forget how it made me feel. I never want to feel like that again. I stayed up all night crying and staring out the window wishing I could just leave this world. I’m normally a very happy and content person. I will never ever take Nexium again. My doctor was able to give me another medication that made me better but I can’t remember what it was called. I only remember Nexium because of how horrible it was. The best way to describe it is Nexium made me feel like I was going crazy."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Barrett's Esophagus "Diagnosed w/ Barrett's 10 months ago and on 20 mg Nexium once daily per MD. Barrett's less than 1 cm. Have changed to plant based diet. Some constipation issues but can be tolerated. Also have osteopenia and just finished Fosamax. Next endoscopy in August. Hopefully Nexium dosage is sufficient. Consuming protein, potassium, vit D & K, calcium plus exercise for my bones so I hope this helps."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Erosive Esophagitis "I was given Nexium 40mg two years ago after a diagnosis of a mild esophagitis. Since then I've been taking it on and off when symptoms return (mainly at the turn of the season). Sure it does help with the acid, but at what price!! I'm just 27 and have always been a sporty guy, but since taking the drug I have developed a chronic back pain, shoulder pain and various tendinitis that are taking ages to heal. I don't know if the PPI has caused all these issues or if it the gastritis, but after doing some research I believe there is a connection with the drug. In addition I'm getting constantly sick (flue, sore throat, cold) like my immune system has gone crazy..."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Erosive Esophagitis "WORST MEDICINE EVER!! I took this for gastritis for 6 days as prescribed by my medical specialist and only felt worse. I had a very mild discomfort in my upper abdomen before and after taking it, I felt as if my entire abdomen was tight and knotted and in pain. But the WORST part of it was that it made me feel DEPRESSED and had really dark suicidal thoughts and that feeling I can never forget. It scared me to the core. And then I realised it was this medicine that made me so mentally upset as well as physically in pain. I would not recommend this to anyone. Please use something else but not this."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Duodenal Ulcer Prophylaxis "It is wonderful for your stomach. I was on it for 23 years, after two I started to have what the doctor called panic attacks. Blah blah blah, tests and psychiatrist later, nexium removes the magnesium out of your bones. Magnesium controls release of muscles, heartbeat, swallowing, I had become severely hypo (low) magnesium and no one ever caught it on a test until the last seizure. The guy in the ambulance who had seen me before said there’s something really wrong. When we got to the hospital I heard them argue with the nurse about magnesium not being in a panel, make sure you check his magnesium, the phlebotomist said, it is in a panel. It was not, 23 years of hypo magnesium and a two dollar lab test, I googled it, side effects, severe hypo magnesium. What a nightmare !!!"

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "Took this a year ago for about 3 months, and seemed to work for the most part. Just had a little bit of stomach 'pain' due to the PPI's being blocked. Went off after that duration and had few issues. Later, I was on it for two weeks and it gave me strange side effects like lower abdominal aches in the back, a 'butterfly in the stomach' sensation that would not go away to the point where I would get 'attacks'. In the future, I'll only use this medicine for a week or so in case I really need it."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I thought it was working until I developed severe stomach cramps that wouldn't go away. Got scoped and discovered I had fairly severe damage to the esophagus which had reduced the efficiency of swallowing down to 10%. Don't assume the medication is working unless you get checked. They switched me to omeprazole. "

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Erosive Esophagitis "I have been on this medicine for about three years with good effect. My problem has cleared up. However, for the last week I have woken at about 1.30 am with severe heartburn so obviously the medication no longer is working. "

Nexium (esomeprazole) for NSAID-Induced Gastric Ulcer "This medicine works very well for me. I highly recommend it, as it dramatically reduces the amount of acid in my stomach after a gastric ulcer bleed, which after being repaired, I do NOT want to experience that pain again."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I took Nexium for three days (20 mg) and stopped due to explosive coughing which started day two. It intensified my asthma and caused diarrhea. I’m now five days out from stopping this drug, and I can’t get rid of these side effects. For me, this was a horrible drug."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I have taken NEXIUM for about 10 yrs. It works so good! Though the last 6 months I have used tums also. But the insurance says it isn't for acid reflux and won't let me have any more. Having a lot of trouble finding something that works! I want my Nexium back, it hurts so bad all of the time, even just a glass of water makes me hurt."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I have very severe acid refulx with esophagal ulcers. I have tried tons of other medications and this is the only one that has given me relief without needing to supplement with antiacids! I do experience headaches as a side effect but they are mild and worth the relief."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "After having heartburn my doctor just automatically prescribed this to me. Let me tell you something! This is the worse thing I could’ve put in my mouth. My anxiety was off the roof! I ended up in the ER because I thought I was having a heart attack. I’ve always suffer from anxiety but this time it’s worse. Burning palm sensation, weird sensations in my brain along with pressure. My vision feels foggy and blurry, and I have arm and leg pain, and depersonalization. The list goes on. It’s been almost a month and I’m still suffering. I feel terrible. I wanted to quit my job and stay in bed! Although this may work for others. It can have bad effects on some. Use with caution!"

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I originally took this for three months a year ago. It worked great during the time with minimal side effects. Went off of it with no problem and had no heartburn for quite a long time. When I had an acid reflux episode last fall, I took it for about a week, where all these weird side effects happened. Developed lower right back pain, joints kept cracking when moving, and the occasional stomach pain in the lower left abdomen. Am disappointed since it was the only thing that really helped my reflux."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Barrett's Esophagus "Have used 20mg Nexium consistently over 10 years. Worked well for all but the worst triggers (bummer), but became concerned about long-term effects. Started using it intermittently and noticed my eyesight became blurry when back on Nexium (confirmed this many times). Have had my bone density checked a few years ago and they said it was okay. Concerned for side effects on kidneys and non-absorption of vitamins, etc., so will continue to use it intermittently."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I have GERD intermittently, as a side effect of another illness. I only get symptoms when I lie down in bed or get ready. I only take it when I feel the symptoms escalating at bedtime, and if I take it on time, the symptoms subside rapidly and I can comfortably go to bed within a few minutes. I feel bad that the experience might be completely different for others. But I'm glad that for me, it works perfectly."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for Erosive Esophagitis "I am 41 years old and my blood pressure has risen. I'm told that I am spilling protein. I'm put on 10 mg. of zestril per day. I take the same amount even today. Zestril has a kidney protector in the drug. 2007 I'm taken to a hospital where they have a heat team waiting, but I'm told it's my stomach! I'm put on Prilosec, in 2010 I'm put on nexium. In the spring of 2016 I'm told that can not take nexium anymore because it can cause kidney issues! This summer I'm told that I have cyst all over my kidneys."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "Was put on this medication for GERD, took it for 5 days. I do already battle anxiety and depression and since taking these meds my anxiety and depression has gone through the roof!!! Felt suicidal and am now booked into a Psych hospital. None of my doctors took me serious when I told them that that was the effects it had on me. Stopped taking it for 3 days and anxiety decreased. Was forced to take it again yesterday and I ended up not being able to sleep and woke up with anxiety again. I wish doctors would do more research on these meds and not just simply follow the leaflet on side effects."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "I started Proton Pump Inhibitors after cancer treatment in 1998. I started with a mild medicine and progressed as things got worse to Nexium twice a day. I haven't had the side affects others seem to have had so I guess I am lucky in that way. It has helped the acid reflux for sure. But one side effect I haven't seen here is ED. For Men taking this medication, if you begin to experience ED consult your doc and see if there is something else that could be used"

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "Over the years I have taken it "as needed". I try to control the acid reflux by watching what I eat. Mayo, Chocolate, mints, tomato sauces really set it off. Sometimes I forget. I try to take it as infrequently as possible because I have heard it may be responsible for decreasing bone density (I"m 69) and there may be other side effects. I was averaging one every 4-5 days. If I'm very careful can go longer, but sometimes I want to splurge. Today I refilled a prescription and noticed it was for "DR" delayed release. Anxious to see if there is any difference."

Nexium (esomeprazole) for GERD "Doctor told me to take nexium for heartburn. Within a day made me feel bloated, head ache, tired, stomach cramps, serious constipation for 3 weeks and low mood, I took this for 3 weeks on and off. Had no idea it was nexium that was making me feel awful, thought it was my body which made me worry a lot. It worked well for heartburn but the side effects were awful. Would never take it again."
