For Major Depressive Disorder "I’ve just had my 9th Spravato at 84 mg. I have only today felt the effects on me. It was not a scary ‘trip,’ but it wasn’t nice. I felt distressed and a bit ‘out of it.’ For example, I have chronic lower back pain, I felt the pain but couldn’t feel my legs. I am trying to find the positive side of this in the fact that at least I did feel it. I was really worried that it wasn’t working at all. I now hope number 10 has an effect as well. They are talking about possibly moving me from the Spravato spray to ketamine infusions. So I will update you as soon as I can. At the moment, my mood is still desperately low, and suicidal thoughts are paramount. I hope my next ‘review’ is a more positive one."

"I want to thank everyone that gave a review of their experience with Spravato. I read almost all of them. I go for my first treatment today at 1:00 PM. I have anxiety because I do not know how my body will react. I have never done a drug that is “trippy.” Ever since I was 8 years old, my parents had me seeing a child psychologist, and I was on medication for ADHD. I have bipolar, and my depression can get really bad with my episodes (I have laid in bed for days at a time). I have also lost interest in so many activities that I loved. My mother had crippling bipolar with mania, severe depression, and dissociation episodes. I have tried so many medications for depression and bipolar. I have been interested in ketamine treatment for two years now. Spravato spray was approved by my doctor and my insurance. I picked the KETA Medical Center because I have heard good things. I will write back after my first week."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Once the sedative effects are no longer felt, you go back to being able to suppress your thoughts that you don't want to think about. It worked until my body got used to it."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Cannot speak to effectiveness just yet, but this is my experience. I was very nervous going into it. I do not have experience with substances other than alcohol and THC (which I respond very badly to), so I was pretty scared that Spravato would really mess me up and I'd have a bad time. I am also super prone to nausea. My first dose went just fine. Took a few minutes for me to feel the effects, but they were manageable. I was pretty lucid the entire time. My head felt a little swimmy, I sometimes couldn't feel parts of my body, and my perception of time was out of whack. But no nausea, paranoia, etc. I actually felt very pleasant the entire time. The next dose, I did have a few minor moments of panic (once because there was a loud noise, once because it was too quiet and that scared me for some reason), but they subsided quickly. I have felt pretty good in the days after my first doses, but no marked improvement yet."

For Depression "Started at the Spravato clinic a month ago. The sessions are in a group, which leads to fascinating conversations while under the influence of this drug. Enjoying the camaraderie with fellow patients and the inhibition/disassociative effects. Yes, you can get high on this stuff. I haven't experienced any healing yet from my depression, however, I've had more stressors than usual this past month, so that benefit may take longer to manifest. Others in my group session have seen great improvement in their mental health. So I suggest to those considering the treatment to at least give it a go!"

For Major Depressive Disorder "Been on Spravato for over a year. Still have been on a regimen of 84 mg twice a week. It has not given me really any adverse effects, light equilibrium issues when on it. When I first started, it was very helpful, but weaning down to anything less than twice a week hasn't been able to work for me. It's helpful for a few days and goes away, wouldn't call it a miracle drug. But it's very helpful compared to the countless other medications I've been on. Definitely bring some Listerine patches or strong mints to help with the nausea/bad taste. Have MDD, PTSD, and anxiety disorder. Spravato is an effective medication, but with the caveat that weaning down really makes the depression kick in. Advice: make a nice playlist of music and try to relax."

For Depression "Well, I've skimmed the comments here so far. As expected, Spravato has a varied effect on various people. I have my first treatment tomorrow. I've managed major depression officially since the mid-90s and probably before. I've been prescribed almost every antidepressant and combination available. I've also had ECT, inpatient treatment, partial hospitalization, weekly therapy sessions, etc. Spravato seems like a logical next step to try now, as it's been FDA approved for 2 years now. I'll try to remember to update here as my regimen progresses."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Had my first Spravato treatment today. The high feeling lasted about 45 minutes. It felt like my legs were separated from my body. I felt really happy. Coming down was not very fun. I started to feel sad again. I’m not giving up though. Going to keep going."

For Depression "I have mixed feelings about this drug. This has taken the suicidal thoughts and squashed it. My depression is very little. I really don't like the treatment - feeling spaced out for 45 mins. I've had high heart rate, dizzy, sickness, headaches. The BIGGEST most important part of this treatment is to take no medications the night before and day of treatment, don't drink the night before or you will pay for it with super sickness, panic attacks, and high heart rate. Everyone is different with this treatment, don't think it's going to be fun because it's not. But versus being dead, it was worth the try! I had to find this out on my own, the doctors don't tell you much about what and what not to do when you take this medication. Most important, put yourself in a calm state during, I found playing soft music is a must, and try not to get up during, or it will cause you to be dizzy and sick. Wait at least 45 mins after when it wears off. I hope this helps someone."

For Depression "I think people who are taking Spravato should read the wealth of information from the maker. I have severe anxiety. It does not assist with anxiety. If you have a doctor giving you Spravato for severe anxiety, that’s insane! Spravato is for depression only. Take the dose, relax, and you absolutely want to be alone, lights off, and listen to music YOU LIKE. Do not sit in a lighted room with the clinician. They will come and check on you. I do not recommend you bring a family member while the medication is working. If you can stand, go to the bathroom if you have to. If you can’t stand, ask for help. Having to use the bathroom takes the entire process of reprogramming your brain away. Urination - yes, it is more difficult on Spravato. Going #2 - You're not supposed to eat food at least 2 hours before taking meds. Is it worth it? Yes! Does it last forever? No, but as I get more and more doses, it is working longer and longer. I hope this helps someone else."

For Depression "An update from September: I've been on Spravato for over three months now, and it seems to be helping, although I'm still not seeing rainbows. It works best for me about 48 hours after a visit. My experiences are all over the place. If you clean your sinuses before your visit, its effects are a lot stronger. I had some bizarre reactions. One of the weirdest was the feeling of melting into the floor and then the floor dropping out. It also causes me to have a strong urge to urinate and messes with my sense of taste. The vision issues have more or less subsided. Take some candy to the appointment, preferably Life Savers wintergreen or peppermint. Nothing you can choke on. Note: When the cost of Ketamine infusions hits $200, I'm going to switch. Pure Ketamine is amazing."

For Depression "I'm finding repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) more effective, but I'm continuing to use both together. If you want to skip the rubbish, go for straight ketamine. That stuff is amazing. It's going to cost you $$. I've used ketamine once prior to Spravato, and that was the best I've felt in 45 years."

For Depression "I've been on esketamine and rapid TMS for over a month now, and I'm starting to see some small improvements. 84 mg gives me some intense reactions. I found that putting your head between your legs after you inject until it soaks in really amplifies the effects. I'd use regular ketamine, but my insurance won't cover it, and at $400 a visit, that's not going to happen. I got approved to use Spravato for a year when needed, and Janssen Pharmaceutical is picking up my copay for now. They have a plan to pay for your medication if needed, and $80,000 net a year or less qualifies. I'm planning on switching to rTMS by itself soon. It only takes 5 minutes and has no restrictions on my day."

For Depression "I have had 3 sessions of 56 mg. First time had the most dramatic side effects, very strong dizziness and dissociation. Next day I felt great. Second session had the worst reaction. Side effects last through the evening, dizziness and nausea. Next day I felt like my head was full of mud, couldn't make any decisions, had a blank look on my face all day... didn't feel like I was in this world. And the third session seemed to be somewhere in the middle. The side effects during and the evening of weren't too bad. The next day I functioned and went to work like a typical day. I can't say I have seen relief from my depression. Dr. thinks I should still give it a few more times. But I am going through a difficult time in my life, so maybe my depression would be way worse if I didn't have the Spravato treatments?"

For Depression "So I posted that I had Spravato at the 56mg for 3 sessions but felt the same. So I am at treatment number 6 at 84mg, and I am finally noticing a difference. I used to be an avid runner and stopped and pretty much rotted on my couch since January. Well last week, I began running again and feel a bit of the depression lifting. I do not in any ways feel cured, but I do feel a little better. I am hoping with the few more sessions I will keep on improving. What I am nervous about is the efficacy of this because to have to go once a week is very expensive... good luck to everyone there is hope!!!!!"

For Major Depressive Disorder "I've been taking Spravato now for approximately 16 months. I have MDD and panic disorder, all starting about 7 years after being diagnosed with chronic pain from spinal stenosis, and two failed lumbar fusions. I had been on traditional SSRI therapy for almost 20 years without much improvement. The depression actually started exacerbating, as well as the panic attacks. I started on Spravato in 2024 with the lowest dose (56 mg) bi-weekly, then quickly moved up to the highest dose (84 mg) once a week. I am currently transitioning to once every other week. When first starting off with the treatments, I had a lot of issues with anxiety/panic from the drug's known side effect of rapid heart rate. I thought maybe that this was not the drug treatment for me. I was put on a low-dose beta blocker, which has worked wonders. To tackle the nausea, I was instructed to buy ginger soft chews. This took care of the nausea. The depression is now finally in remission."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I am currently in the phase of getting the medication every two weeks. I am also taking Venlafaxine and Doxepin for sleep. Overall, I feel like the medication is helping, but I developed some vertigo symptoms like random dizziness, brain zaps, and brain fog. I am also in EMDR therapy as well. I don't see a 'regular' therapist. So my experience with the sessions is great because I meditate, then I fall asleep. It's like the medication is giving my brain a much-needed break. I do have varied dips between treatment sessions, especially now that they are farther apart. I feel like I got more of a benefit in the beginning because the treatment was more frequent. I feel at odds about this because I don't want to come off as an addicted person, but it does help me. I am too ashamed to admit this to my medical team. I have emotional blunting rather than down (to me, a plus). I wish I could do the treatments at home because I am more comfortable there. I am concerned about relapses."

For Major Depressive Disorder "31 y/o, I have been tried on 30 meds over the last 6 years, tried rTMS as well with no results. The only thing that's ever helped is tramadol (for MDD). I'm also on klonopin as needed. I had one Spravato treatment today. It was the exact opposite of IV ketamine, which I really didn't like and quit after 4 infusions. IV was COLD, clinical, and felt mean. Spravato, on the other hand, felt good. It felt very pleasant and WARM. I took the 84 mg. I did not 'trip' at all. I didn't on the max dose IV ketamine either. Both felt like a drop in the water compared to DXM or DMT, but I didn't want to 'get high', I want to feel less depressed. I think the klonopin attenuates it a bit. The experience was like a total couch lock. It was very pleasing. It felt like I was doing personal therapy in my mind, along with the music. I was feeling words like creativity, peace, acceptance, and seeing troubling issues in my mind, like grief and loss, and was able to breathe through them. I am excited to keep going with Spravato."

For Major Depressive Disorder "After many months of coordinating clinicians, paid leave for hubby, and 2 insurances, I had my first Spravato treatment yesterday, and it was great. The first time I have been able to truly relax since a stalking in 2008, from which I developed PTSD. I go to a wonderful clinic with calm, serene decor, and my therapist specializes in psychedelic guidance (hubby's union insurance pays for this, my Medicare Advantage pays for the Spravato). Also, I have experience with psychedelics from when I was a kid, and I use medical marijuana, so I understand altered states. As of today, I feel the same... low mood and anxiety, with a bit of stomach upset. Tomorrow is my second session. I'm hoping this is going to help, as I am unable to tolerate most psychotropic drugs due to a gene mutation affecting my liver. Good luck to everyone out there."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I just finished treatment #12 of Spravato today. I am 37 years old and am diagnosed with treatment-resistant depression and complex PTSD. I have been on at least 10 different types of antidepressants over the past 15 years. I have also done TMS and IV ketamine treatments in the past 5 years. I would say that I am cautiously optimistic that Spravato is starting to work. I have gone from sleeping 6 to 7 hours during the day and 8 to 9 hours at night because I did not want to face life. Now I still sleep a full night but only take a 1 to 2 hour nap during the day. So I have increased energy and an overall improved mood. I would say the biggest change has been in my suicidal ideation. I still have hard nights, but the intrusive thoughts are way less! As anyone who has been dealing with depression for years and years knows, there is no one miracle cure. I would say overall though Spravato is helping, and thankfully, unlike IV ketamine treatments, it is covered by my insurance, which is a huge blessing."

For Depression "Bioavailability is a big issue with ketamine. Infusions provide 100%, intramuscular maybe 70%, and Spravato, nasally 30%+. Unless you don’t swallow for several minutes after pressurized into nostrils. As it drains down your throat, and if you don’t swallow, the membrane in your mouth allows much greater absorption, much greater. The experience is much more pronounced, which I only assume means more meds into your system and thus a better outcome. Sure seems to be working that way for me."

For Depression "Have had maybe 5 Spravato treatments. Almost immediately felt better on depressive feelings associated with chronic pain. I seemed to notice the dissociative effects varied wildly from treatment to treatment and believe the stronger the effect, the more medicine gets to my brain. Today I decided not to swallow for as long as possible, theorizing swallowing what drains from the sinuses is lost to the effects of stomach acid. Well, as I swished the drainage (yeah, kind of gross, but it travels that path in any event) and avoided swallowing for as long as possible, I experienced the strongest dissociative effects to date. Makes sense as the medicine is absorbed through membranes in the mouth rather than lost to the stomach. I may be wrong, but I think the more dissociative, the more medicine gets to the brain, the more impactful the effect, the better I will feel. Will update as I continue the process, assuming I don’t drown :)"

For Depression "I have had Spravato three times-once with the lower dose; twice with the higher. It's difficult to leave a review knowing everyone responds differently (but hopefully with enough enjoying remitted depressive symptoms). I didn't notice anything my first two sessions, during or after. But my partner did (more positive/less irritable). On the third dose, I did feel like more color was returning to my life, but that lasted for a day. This is not unusual: the medication supposedly builds up. The post-nasal drip is foul, but I've found that some candies work the best. I don't feel actually sick (although some people do). I didn't disassociate or have any reactions at all. I had ketamine for the main anesthesia ingredient during a major hip operation, and I came out of that surgery feeling great for a week even with the pain, so I'm hopeful continued use of its sibling will really help me. There is a question about whether maintenance really does need to be ongoing to keep the benefits."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Although I haven't seen any results yet, it's important to remember that everyone's response can be different. After undergoing eight sessions, I haven't experienced any improvements. However, if you delve into the research, you'll find that this treatment was originally used as a horse tranquilizer. Logically, it seems plausible that a tranquilizer could be effective for addressing both anxiety and depression."
