For Conjunctivitis, Bacterial "Used the medication after cataract surgery. Erythromycin is messy, greasy, and eyesight is blurry after application (thin line along upper and lower lashes). Medication eradicated two longstanding chalazions on both lower lids. The stye on the upper eyelid is reduced and less painful and should be gone in a few days more. Not a fun med, but understandable why it was prescribed-it works. I use Q-tips to apply because erythromycin is not easy to use."

For Conjunctivitis, Bacterial "I had a corneal abrasion and used it for 4 hours. I started to notice redness, swelling, and itching around my eye and even on the outside of my eye. I'm thinking I'm having an allergic reaction to it? Has anybody else ever had this problem?"

For Conjunctivitis, Bacterial "Applied erythromycin to my eye for the 1st time at 1:30 PM on Monday, Oct. 12th; again at 6 PM and 11 PM. Woke this morning (13 October) in discomfort (similar to before using the ointment), applied it at 8:30 AM and tried to go back to sleep to no avail. Applied it again at 1 PM. My eye doesn't itch and feel like sand is constantly in it anymore, but it is more red than it was before applying the ointment. My right eye was pink in the corners, my left eye was barely pink, but now they're both bright red and super watery (vision blurred with tears minute after minute)."

For Conjunctivitis, Bacterial "I believe the erythromycin eye ointment can result in irritation and complications because of some kind of filler aside from the medicinal ingredients. The consistency is oily, and after using this for pink eye for a few times, my daughter developed a lacrimal gland blockage resistant to treatment that ultimately resulted in a granuloma. It is my belief that this medication should be discontinued."

For Conjunctivitis, Bacterial "I cannot rate this on efficacy because I used it twice and then had the doctor change my Rx to Tobramycin drops. The erythromycin ointment made my eyes feel even worse when I applied it. Felt like someone dumped sticky sand into my eyes for about 10 minutes. Awful."

For Conjunctivitis, Bacterial "Not easy to use but works the best (and fastest way) to get rid of pink eye. I poured the ointment on a gloved finger to administer because it is difficult trying to avoid touching your eye with the tip of the tube."

For Conjunctivitis, Bacterial "I had an upper eyelid stye that rapidly, over the course of three days, resulted in lots of inflammation of both upper and lower lids. My first few applications of the ointment with a Q-tip were uncomfortable because I put too much, resulting in a sticky, greasy mess. Eventually, I got the hang of it. I had expected the ointment to be soothing, but instead, it irritated my eye, making it much more bloodshot. I had also assumed it would rapidly reduce the inflammation, but it was two and a half days before I could see any significant improvement. After four and a half days, my eye looks much better, with the lower lid swelling gone and the upper lid reduced by about half. Still feeling the itchiness and sting along the eyelid margin, and it's more noticeable right after I apply the ointment. Overall, though, it seems to be effective."

For Conjunctivitis, Bacterial "This is the tried and true medication that takes care of business. Once widely used, you're hard pressed to get it unless you ask for it. This works on contact when it's needed every time. They're pushed to sell the more expensive new class of drugs that have horrible side effects. Erythromycin is the one. For people and animals!"

For Conjunctivitis, Bacterial "I have been using this med since Monday evening, mine is supposed to be just 1x at bedtime. I noticed when I woke up anywhere from 8 to 10 hours asleep that my eyes are blurry when I wake up! It's not supposed to do that, I am quite sure. Does anyone know?"

"I used this in conjunction with low-dose doxycycline to get some relief from ocular rosacea/blepharitis I was experiencing in one eye. It worked better than Azasite (azithromycin solution which cost $100 per 1 mL!) and it is generic, so it's super cheap (about $10 or less for 3 tubes!). It's basically the same thing as Azasite, but at a fraction of the price. A family care doctor prescribed it, not an eye doctor. Go figure. It just caused some minor eye itchiness and eye strain in me (I get the same side effects from Systane ointment which is just petroleum and mineral oil). I used it 3 times a day for 7 days."

For Conjunctivitis, Bacterial "Stings like heck. I have a cornea abrasion and they gave me this to fight any infection. Really stings and also had a stye on my upper eyelid using it the second time. Not sure if I will keep using it."

For Conjunctivitis, Bacterial "I prefer the drops to the ointment. The drops are easier to administer and to figure out the dosage. The ointment worked, but was less clean."

For Conjunctivitis, Bacterial "I had a cornea scratch from cataract surgery, and this is what they gave me. Application causes needle-like pain in the eye. Too early to tell its effectiveness."

For Conjunctivitis, Bacterial "I was told to use this after cataract surgery. It made my eye very, very blurry and itchy! I could see great the day after surgery until I used this ointment! Do not use!"

For Conjunctivitis, Bacterial "I've used eye lubricant gel before without issue, so I thought I wouldn't mind the erythromycin ointment. Wrong. Not only is it messy, greasy, and difficult to apply in a sanitary way, it made my already irritated eyes feel even worse. After using, it felt like someone put gooey sand in my eyes. It hurt, was highly irritating, and lasted for at least 5 minutes after using. I used this only twice and called the doctor to switch me to tobramycin drops."
