For Migraine Prevention "I took Aimovig for the first time on August 29, 2018. Since I took it, my head pain has been worse, my dizziness and lightheadedness have truly increased, having stomach cramps every single day. It feels like I am having seizures like I did before I had seizure surgery, and getting less sleep even more (under 4 hours daily). I don’t know how much more I can take. I am so close to going to the hospital."

For Migraine Prevention "I started my first Aimovig injection February 5th. I took my 2nd March 5th and am due for another April 5th. I was still weaning off Topamax in February. But the side effects have been ridiculous. I have insomnia, rapid heartbeat, stomach issues, constipation, stiff joints, muscle cramps and spasms, leg and arm pain, neck pain and headaches, dizziness/vertigo, hot flashes (day and night), hair loss, chest pains, and my blood pressure had gone up, and it used to be low. It had reduced my migraines, but the side effects are not worth it."

For Migraine Prevention "This went from bad to worse. This is day 7, and I wake up every morning with a headache, tight chest, dizziness, lightheadedness, and nausea. I’m trying to cope with all these symptoms and stomach issues. Honestly, I don’t think I will be doing a second course of the meds. Yes, I have noticed my migraines be less, but the side effects outweigh the issues I have. I’m sorry, I will have to pass on this."

For Migraine Prevention "I’ve been on Aimovig for a week tomorrow, and I’ve experienced itching, sore stomach, and bloating so bad. My liver has been hurting, and I just want it out of my system. My vertigo has been acting up the last two days, so I’m dizzy and nauseous. How do you get it out of your system? How long does it take to get Aimovig out of my system after one dose of 140 mg? - Answer: Estimate is 140 days (For roughly 97% to be removed from the body, the half-life is 28 days, and it takes about 5 half-lives to remove most of it, so 5 X 28 = 140 days)"

For Migraine Prevention "I had my first injection on June 2nd, it was the 140 mg injection. About 3-4 days later, I started getting lightheaded and dizzy. Wasn’t too bad at first, but as of today, June 11th, I had to grab onto something at least 3 times because I got so dizzy that I thought I was going to pass out. As I sit here writing this, I am lightheaded, have a buzzing in my ears, and have head pressure. I have severe panic and anxiety, and these issues are making it much worse. Also, this medication has not helped my migraines. If anything, it’s worse. These symptoms could be something else altogether (Lord, I hope not), but I’m thinking the medicine may have amplified issues. I won’t be taking Aimovig again. What I don’t understand is why none of these symptoms are mentioned, yet there are many who have experienced the same issues while receiving an injection. The nurse that gave me the injection told me the only side effect is constipation. Obviously not."

For Migraine Prevention "I was started on the 140 mg injection. No side effects other than severe constipation for the first two weeks. Week three, a huge range of side effects kicked in. Gripping around the back of my neck/base of my skull, causing stiffness and popping/creaking when I turned my head. Extreme fatigue and breathlessness. Dizziness when standing up. Serious tremor in my hands and shakiness in my legs when standing. My vision was adversely affected. Abdominal pain and a bloated feeling. Panic attacks. Pain across lower back around my kidneys. I started to retain water and put on weight due to this. Pronounced whine in my ears. Inability to focus/concentrate. The injection made no difference to my headache, and I have refused to take the second injection as a result of the side effects of the first one."

For Migraine Prevention "Updated review ~ (I commented on 2019-03-24 under the same name) I must say, after figuring out all the side effects of this drug ~ constipation, severe headache the first week, dizziness, light-headed & feeling out of place ~ I decided to give the medication another opportunity to work. I’m on my second month and must say I do not feel dizzy, and the constipation that I had before I was able to cope with by adding two fiber gummy bears each night. I no longer get hit by days of migraines anymore, but rather 2-3 max a month, but not with the severe intensity as before. This medication has dramatically improved my life. I no longer have to be afraid of planning my weekly activities, I can finally, after years, drink a beer with friends and enjoy the light. I truly & sincerely enjoy life again. Yes, this medication has side effects, but being able to enjoy life again outweighs the side effects that can be handled with."

For Migraine Prevention "My neurologist recommended Aimovig for my vestibular migraines. Within 48 hours of taking my first injection, the nightmare side effects began. My anxiety became much worse, and I started having severe panic attacks. I had shortness of breath, dizziness, hallucinations, a feeling of impending doom, and feeling like I was going to die. I now have insomnia, which I never had before taking Aimovig. After 3 days on Aimovig, I had severe constipation, cramping, and indigestion. I wish I had never tried Aimovig. It is now 2 months after my first (and only) injection, and I’m still struggling with severe anxiety and had a recent visit to the ER for chest pains, shortness of breath, extremely high blood pressure, and heart rate. I can’t wait to have this drug completely out of my system so I can get my life back."

For Migraine Prevention "The first time I took this was over a year ago and was the 70 mg injection. All it did was make my head hurt worse for a few days, and then that was it, no other side effects. My neurologist suggested it again, and I told him I didn’t like how it made me feel last time, but he said you have to take it for at least three months to see if you get results, so I took it on May 3, 2021, and didn’t have any problems until two weeks after when it became like a nightmare. I’ve had severe insomnia, ringing in the ears, severe anxiety, and panic attacks. Also, it feels as if my head has pressure on top of it and I have dizziness that is horrible. I don’t feel like myself because of this drug, it’s been a bad year for me to begin with because I had to have a neck fusion surgery with two discs removed. I’ve tried too many procedures that didn’t help and made my headaches worse, and now this stuff, Aimovig, that I put into my body was the last straw."

For Migraine Prevention "I have been on Aimovig (70 mg) 1 shot for 7 months now. First 5 months, migraine-free. At the 6-month shot, I had the worst migraine about 4 days after my shot, and it was so bad I thought I was gonna have a stroke. At month 7, 4 days after my shot, I had the worst vertigo, I couldn't move my head or walk for days. I have had horrible bloating and constipation, and it caused me to have a diverticulitis flare-up. I'm done with this medication. I also noticed my shoulder has been sore for 2 months now, like I pulled a muscle, and it's probably related to this medication since I notice people have reported muscle pain because I didn't do anything strenuous prior."

For Migraine Prevention "After my first shot of Aimovig, I had a HORRIBLE attack of vertigo lasting about 8-10 hours of severe spinning. It then lasted very mild for an additional 7 days. I had never had vertigo before, and it was horrendous. I came on the day I was expecting my migraine. Also had ear pressure and fullness for a couple of weeks. Went to ENT to rule out anything else, and there were no other explanations. I would MUCH rather take the oral medications than to ever deal with vertigo again."

For Migraine Prevention "I have been on this 70 mg for two weeks. I took it June 1st and started feeling dizzy and lightheaded on June 10th, and I also suffer from anxiety, so that doesn't help my situation. It doesn't list any side effects, but I was fine before I took the injection. Now I feel like I'll pass out, I've got to lay down, and I went to the emergency room three times already. They told me it is vertigo, but I am positive it is not. I will not be taking Aimovig again. My eyes hurt and are sensitive to light, and I get a little headache, not the migraine."

For Migraine Prevention "I had 3 Aimovig shots for chronic migraine - 70, 70, 140. It works. The headaches faded to a daily 1 or 2. But side effects? Bad enough that I've quit Aimovig. Constipation I can control. But the fatigue. I'm a fitness freak, and the wobbly-legged feeling of exhaustion was shocking. Plus a fuzzy lethargy that makes it hard to get up and get started. I still want to take a nap all the time. Dizziness when I change position. I sit and wait for the room to stop rotating. Lately, this comes with nausea - 6 weeks after my last injection. Muscle spasms - legs and hands. Try to sleep with that going on all night. So, I'm out. My doc suggests Ajovy, but now I'm leery of the CGRP inhibitors. These things need extended research, in my opinion. We who experience serious side effects may be risking lasting compromise. For me, it worked. But I suspect it's like belting yourself on the head with a hammer to nail a mosquito. You'll stop the itch, but you may cause a lot of collateral damage."

For Migraine Prevention "I first tried this a year ago on a 2-month trial from the distributor. I didn't have much change in the frequency of migraines then, but eventually, the severity of them improved. I was still having 20-25 headache days a month, but only about 5-8 days would be more than a 5/10 on the pain scale. A year later and my neurologist has given me a motherlode of samples. I started my second round about 3 weeks ago. This time the severity of my migraines got much worse almost immediately. I've been at a 7-9/10 constantly since my injection. Side effects during the 1st trial were not good; vertigo and nausea so bad it was almost as debilitating as a severe migraine. That seems to be the case this time as well. I'm gonna try to stick it out for at least 3 months. I expect some improvement in side effects between now and then. But I don't think this will be the amazing cure it's been for some."

For Migraine Prevention "I have suffered migraines from age of 10 years. I have tried everything from antihypertensives, antidepressants, Botox, Topamax, and now all three monoclonal antibody therapies, the last of which is Aimovig. I can concur with all the symptoms posted on this site: head fog, dizziness, shortness of breath, palpitations, anxiety, restlessness, especially at night, and sharp, stabbing pain in my head and neck. Triptan is less effective and has no change in daily migraines. As a chronic migraine sufferer, I don't know what options I have, but this is not one of them and I will report side effects as I have done for other similar treatments."

For Migraine Prevention "Amazing experience. Suffered from chronic migraines, which dropped by 50 percent the first month. Now at my third month, and I only have a migraine once a week. I can even indulge with a glass of alcohol. The side effects, such as anxiety, dizziness, a nosebleed, and early periods, only happened the first few days of use. I have slight joint pain, but given I have no more migraines, it’s totally worth it."

For Migraine Prevention "Aimovig only lasts about 3 weeks out of the month and has side effects that are annoying. Constipation, dizziness when lying down, muscle cramps, and some fatigue. Does seem to make the gastrointestinal tract more swollen, and bloating is an issue. But these side effects are manageable, and the benefits outweigh the risks, especially for people with severe migraines."

For Migraine Prevention "I'm shocked to see so many negative reviews. My experience has been overall positive with this drug. I understand everyone's experience is unique to how their body reacts to this drug. I started taking Aimovig 70 mg 6 months ago. My migraines are more vestibular, I experienced light sensitivity and dizziness almost daily, brain fog, and my pain was at a 3-4 on a 1-10 scale for months before my doctor prescribed this medication. The first 3-4 months, I improved about maybe 50%. I still had days that were bad, but way less. Some days, I didn't have symptoms at all, but I still had symptoms about half the time. After 6 months of taking the 70 mg dose monthly, I would say my symptoms have improved 80-85%. It's been life-changing for me. I'm thankful to have a positive experience with this medication. All I can say is give it a chance and understand that it takes 6 months or so, according to what I've read, for this medication to take full effect."
