"So I started on Gianvi, and it wasn't bad. It worked for a long time, no issues, then BAM! I gained almost 30 lbs within 3 months of being on this pill. I'm an active person, and I hadn't been able to lose the weight. Not only that, but I started to develop a rash on my forehead. Wondering why it wouldn't go away, I stopped taking the pills for a month, and the rash had gone away. Then when I went back on the pills, it came back, and it was so bad. I couldn't sweat, or it would burn, no makeup, and not even a hat could touch my forehead. Guess no more pills, because this one was the absolute worst and last."

"Been on this pill, Gianvi, for almost 10 years. I was on it from about 18 to 24. Stopped it to start our family. I got back on it when I was 26. Before my son, it worked good. Towards the end, my periods did start to go back to 6 days, though. Went back on it after having my son, and it has been horrible. I am so much more irritable and moody EVERYDAY. I take it like I should, and I still have spotting most months. I am constantly exhausted and switching pills next month. The only plus was I was able to get pregnant within a month of quitting the pill... I will never go back to this."

"I've personally had a great experience on Gianvi so far. I'm on my third month and I've actually been able to lose weight for the first time in so long! I do work out too, but I did before and was at a standstill. I am a bit scared though, 'cause I may switch to Yaz, as for some reason, it's way cheaper on my insurance over this generic. Really though, it's been great!"

"I have been taking Gianvi for almost two months. I've had spotting for weeks on end, sometimes an odd pain in my chest, frequent headaches and nausea, vision changes in my right eye, and my mood is often really low. I already have anxiety issues, and this has magnified them too. I found it helpful to read that others have had some of these odd symptoms too."

"My mental health got so bad on this drug that I wasn't even able to complete one cycle of pills. Since I started the pack, I'd been horribly depressed. I was crying every day and every night, with major lethargy and other bad effects. I was originally prescribed this medication to deal with period cramps and help me with bad PMS symptoms, but ironically I experienced pains at weird parts of my cycle where I'd never gotten them and, like I mentioned, my mental health worsened significantly. I also broke out heavily all over my chin. It would have been nice if this had worked out, but it led to a really bad experience for me."

"I tried Gianvi last summer for about 4 months. I gained 20 lbs, and it's awful. I was at 110 before, and then towards the end of it, I was 130 lbs. Once I got off Gianvi, I lost most of the weight I gained. It did, however, help with my acne. I had pretty bad acne before, and Gianvi helped control it."

"I'm so glad I tried this birth control. After reading all the negative reviews, I was honestly scared. I have been on it for 3 months now, and I have had a really good experience. No weight gain (may have even lost a few lbs), my skin looks the same (never had a problem with acne in the first place), and I can honestly say my mood swings are more stabilized the week before my period. I used to feel depressed for about a week and a half prior to getting my period, and now I only feel down during the four days where I'm taking the placebo pills. I had been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo in the past, and that made me gain approximately 10-15 lbs and made me have crazy mood swings, so I'm really glad I tried Gianvi despite the reviews."

"I am 39 and have never had PMS to speak of. I have been on birth control pills for over a decade (Estrostep, Ortho Tri-Cyclen) with no problems. Went on Gianvi, and it was a nightmare. I stuck it out for 3 months as my body adjusted, thinking it would get better, but if anything, it got worse. The 10 days or so before my period, I was tense, stressed, and depressed. It had such a negative impact on my life. And no sex drive to speak of. The only positive thing I can say is that I did not notice worsening of any weight or acne problems."

"I have been on Gianvi for about a month. At first, I think it gave me mood swings. I was very irritable. But it seems to have calmed down. There's no other negative thing for me to say about it. On the positive side, it has cleared up my acne, and my skin looks and feels better. I haven't had my first period on the pill yet."

"I have had no trouble with this pill at all. My period starts the same time every month, and I hardly bleed when it comes. I used to have awful irregular periods that came with awful cramps, but now I have a very light flow and little to no cramping."

"I started using Gianvi 2 1/2 months ago, and it has been great! I have PCOS, and before I started taking Gianvi, my periods were a nightmare! I couldn't use tampons because I would bleed over them in ten minutes. I would bleed 15-19 days straight. The cramps were so bad, I would rather give birth. The first 3 days of my period, if I stood up, blood would run down my legs. Since starting Gianvi, my periods are light and last 4 days, and hardly any cramps."

"The absolute worst birth control that I have EVER taken! I had to stop taking this pill halfway through the pack because of the side effects. One day I found myself crying totally out of nowhere, I was also becoming depressed, which is very uncommon for me, being that I'm a pretty jovial person. Another terrible factor for me was the heavy bleeding even after my period had ended. I already have extremely heavy and painful menstrual cycles as it is, so the fact that I was bleeding even more was a no-go for me. My appetite fluctuated from day to day, but I still gained a few pounds. I'll be switching to a different one ASAP."

"This has been the worst experience of my life. I’m doing nothing but bleeding and bleeding and bleeding constantly for the past 5 months. Coming from someone who used to have bad anxiety and overcame it mostly, it has made me have anxiety attacks a few times a week. I feel a lack of motivation. I don’t know if that’s due to my constant period or the medicine. I’ve never had a good experience with any BC pill or depo shot."

"The good news: my boobs are bigger, and the acne around my chin area has subsided. Bad news: I've gained weight, and I'm always bloated. I've always had a flat stomach, but ever since I started taking the pill, I'm 24/7 bloated. All hell broke loose this weekend when I literally thought I was being possessed by the devil. I started bleeding heavily, and the cramping was relentless and unbearable. After a night out, I came home and was overwhelmed with depression and anxiety. I was hypersensitive to every sound, and I cried for 3 hours for God knows what reason. I'm hesitant to start this new pack after that hellish episode."

"Took this medication, as Vestura was no longer available. I began having yeast infection symptoms on a monthly basis to having full recurring yeast infections monthly. Finally concluded Gianvi birth control pills were the cause after quitting Gianvi altogether. Everyone's body is different. Vestura wasn't perfect, but it worked better for me than Gianvi. Awful! 6 months of yeast infections!"

"The first few months were great! Light periods, minimal cramping. The past 3 months, I have started my period 2-3 days early, and it lasts about 2 weeks. That gives me about a week per month that I'm not on my period. I'm changing pills tomorrow, hopefully, the next kind isn't as treacherous!"

"I was on Gianvi from the age of 16-22, and I loved it. I had great skin (with the occasional breakout), short periods, and little cramping. I heard that Mirena IUD made it so you had no periods, and I thought not having to take a pill every day would be great too. So I switched to the IUD, and everything was going well until about 6 months in, I started getting HORRIBLE acne, like I had never had before. Long story short, I got it out, and I just recently switched over from IUD back to Gianvi (after a few months break in between, my acne got a lot better). Since getting back on Gianvi, I have been having the horrible acne coming back. I see my esthetician weekly and have since my IUD acne. Going to try to stick it out for 3-4 months and hoping to have the acne go away soon."

"I've been using Gianvi for the last 4 years. Other pills used to make me spot in between periods. This pill changed everything! My period is so regular now, it comes every month on the expected day, always within 3 hours of each other. Way less cramping, no side effects, and it only lasts around 4 days. Make sure you get Gianvi and not a generic version, as they affected me differently. Awesome BC!"

"I've been using Gianvi for over 5 years and have had a great experience. Clear skin, light periods, no weight gain, and no pregnancy :) My previous birth control made my hair fall out, but it has grown back since I made the switch to Gianvi. My pharmacy always has a hard time keeping it in stock, but I always insist on this brand vs. another generic. If you're having trouble, try a local pharmacy instead of the big chains."

"I started Gianvi after 3 months of using Yaz. I’m not happy at all. I’m due to start my 2nd pack today, but I think that I’m just going to discontinue using it. Yesterday, I experienced serious mood swings, and today isn’t any better. I’ve been an emotional wreck, and I don’t like the way that it makes me feel."

"I’ve been on this birth control for about 4 years. I was prescribed Gianvi for acne. I noticed that for 3 years, my acne improved greatly. However, throughout the last year on it, I noticed my acne was suddenly going back to how it was prior to taking birth control. I am considering switching to a new birth control because of this or just stopping birth control altogether. I personally did not experience any side effects other than my period changing. I get my period about every 6 months now instead of every month, and it’s very light. I asked my doctor about this, and she said this was normal. This was a nice plus, as my period was rather heavy. Overall, I had a very positive experience on this birth control, however, it’s no longer helping with my acne, so I might have to switch."

"I started this BC pill to regulate my period and then used it as a birth control option. I always use a condom too, so I can't give an honest opinion on how well it worked in that department. My shoulders and back had some mild acne, but it's all cleared up by now, and I've been on the pill for 6 months. My face still gets the occasional bump or two, but nothing nearly as bad. My body synced up to the pill, and my period is light and only 3 days long. The worst side effects are nausea and the mood swings. I cry a lot easier now and seem irritable. The spotting stopped within the first two months of taking the pill."

"I've been on it for 3 months, and it's pretty good. Your acne does get semi worse for the first couple of months, but at month 3, I can see that my skin is clearing up. I would say 8/10 in terms of how much it's helped my skin. I don't think I've gained much weight, but my boobs have definitely gotten bigger. No loss of sex drive for me, but it has not helped my period cramps/aches at all. I think it's only made my period marginally lighter. It does what it does fairly well, and it's completely covered by my insurance. There have been no negative side effects as of now."

"I’ve been taking Gianvi birth control for about a year now. It started taking it in July 2020. It did great on curing the symptoms I was experiencing with PMDD, such as the anger, depression, and anxiety I had experienced before taking it. Now what I don’t like is the excessive bleeding. First, I was spotting for typically a week either before or after my period. Now recently, I’ve been bleeding more than just on my period. This month, I bled a medium to heavy flow for the entire month. I got tired of seeing blood and was exhausted by the cramps. Seeing the gyno on Wednesday, thankfully."

"AWFUL. I know it's different for everyone, but this has been awful. I've tried four different birth controls, and now I'm on this one. I have terrible cystic acne because of it, even have acne on my legs! None of this has ever happened since before I started this. If I could post pictures, I would. Also, I do not have a period. I mean, that's kinda nice, but I always take at least two pregnancy tests a month to make sure, even though I'm being safe. I'm not saying I wouldn't recommend it, because you should at least try it to see if it works for you. Good luck!"
