"I have been on three different birth controls, my first one was amazing, but they discontinued it! So I am now on Gianvi. It has been almost 5 months, and I have not stopped spotting for almost two months. It has put a huge damper on my sex life with my boyfriend. I also have noticed I am very dry, which was never an issue before this pill. I have much higher anxiety and really bad cravings as well. After reading all the reviews, I will be stopping this pill tomorrow!"

"I got switched to Gianvi from Yaz a little over a month ago. For the past few weeks, I've been extremely emotional. I find myself almost in tears over the slightest things that normally I wouldn't even have noticed they were said. I'm suddenly very down, and it takes a lot of motivation to get myself moving. I've already got another brand for when this pack runs out."

"Be careful with this birth control if you have a history of anxiety or mood disorder. I had a history of major depression (episodic) and read warnings with this medication, was skeptical of it but decided to try. I kept a journal of my moods for the 9 days that I took Gianvi. I believe it started to make me depressed. Not sure if this was the effect of switching to new birth control (I was on Trinessa for 9 years before it was discontinued) but I believe it was the medication itself. I was very obsessive over minute things at work and in my relationship, irritable and impatient to the point that I was cruel to my BF, and started to have feelings of hopelessness when I was by myself. Two days after I stopped taking it, it was like a cloud was lifted from over me. Be cautious, it was not good for my mental health."

"This is my third and final update - good news! - just make it through the first pack and a half! My body completely acclimated after that, and I feel totally normal again. After getting back into a regular workout routine again, the pills' emotional and physical effects gradually lessened. I do still have some breast sensitivity, light bloating, and, as of recently, a lower sex drive, but I'm not the raging, depressed, lethargic mess I was a month ago, lol. My advice - the first month and some is going to suck; I felt physically and emotionally so out of whack, I wanted to give up 3-5 times a week, but GIVE IT TIME. Give your body a solid month and a half to adjust and then make the decision to stick with it or move on."

"Only upside was that I did not get pregnant. This medication made me moody, depressed, and I broke out in painful cystic acne, which I had never experienced before. I also experienced bloating and dramatic PMS, which had never happened before either."

"Hard to tell I'm even on birth control! After several pills in the past made me an acne-covered, fat crazy maniac, I swore off pills for 7 yrs. Gianvi is my first and only one! Only on the 2nd pack, but my horribly painful, heavy period is already so much better! Hardly any cramps, no bloating, and much lighter flow. No acne, no emotional issues, I actually seem calmer! Breasts have gotten a little bigger, but no tenderness since the first week. Side effects I experienced the first week or so were headaches, breast tenderness, and very tired. I almost stopped taking it, and I'm so glad I didn't because it passed, and now I have no complaints! You just don't know until you try!"

"Wow, worst generic oral contraceptive ever!!! I have been on this for three months (was on YAZ for 1.5 years prior without issues), and my PMDD is horrific for 7-10 days before/around my period. Severe depression, anxiety, panic, crying... just awful. Please request YAZ and not the generic."

"I had headaches for a few months, but my body got pretty used to it. Periods were like clockwork - 2 days sometimes only lasted even 1, but last year I started getting random spotting. I told my doc I wanted to try something new as there are so many options, and the random spotting wasn't making my husband happy. So she prescribed me Lo Loestrin. WORST MISTAKE EVER. First month on Lo Loestrin, I didn't get my period (thought I was pregnant). Second month got it twice, third month got it 3x. Was dizzy, sick to my stomach, constantly tired, started breaking out all over! Long story short - stayed on Lo Loestrin for 5 months. Now I'm back on Gianvi and happier than EVER!"

"I used Yaz for years with no problems, but Gianvi made me moody, depressed, and seriously suicidal. Once I made the connection that my depression and suicidal thoughts were from the pill, I stopped immediately. Sure enough, two days later, I felt cheerful and fine. I also noticed this pill gave me zero sex drive-so maybe it is really effective birth control."

"I wish I could rate this with 0 stars. I took one pill, and it was the worst thing that ever happened to me. I took the first pill at 10 pm, and by 1 am, I couldn't breathe. The worst anxiety I've ever experienced in my life hit me, and it hit me hard. And coming from someone who has suffered from anxiety and depression and takes Prozac, this wasn't anything close to what I've experienced in the past. I've dealt with death, loss, body dysmorphia, etc. This was the worst pain I've ever felt. I said rash things to my boyfriend and almost lost my relationship. I stopped taking it, but the hormones are still in my body after 2 days. I haven't eaten for 48 hours, and I'm still extremely anxious, and my head has been flooded with intrusive thoughts. Please do not take this pill."

"I've been taking Gianvi for about 4 months now, and at first, I really enjoyed it. Now I'm feeling nauseous, my breasts are swollen and painful, and I've had a headache every other day for a month. I've also noticed a slight weight gain, and I'm moody as hell, not to mention my sex drive is gone. I'm so frustrated, I want off this pill and back on my old one, Ocella. I'm calling my doctor and demanding to switch back so I can stop being a monster and enjoy my sex life with my fiancé again."

"I got on Gianvi after Yaz because it was cheaper. It helped to clear my hormonal cystic acne. I started in February of 2016. Two months later, I noticed weird symptoms with my eyes. They were constantly aching, and it hurt to blink. Fast forward a year and a half, and it’s still getting worse (I honestly thought it was from me getting older). Turns out I had severe dry eye and inflammation, which would cause migraines (never had these before). So I went on some medication to bring down the swelling in my eyes. Come to find out that my birth control is the only reason for my weird eye symptoms and migraines. I got off the birth control, and less than five days later, my eyes went completely back to normal. Was on this stuff for over two years. Took forever to realize."

"I used to have been on birth control for four years now - 2 years on Yaz and 2 years on Gianvi. Both pills work really well for me. My sex drive wasn't affected, I haven't had a zit in years, and my periods are light and regular. However, my breasts got a lot bigger over the 4 years (great for my boyfriend, not so much for me), and I have gained weight. It also has made it harder to lose weight. I went off the pill for about three months in the first year of using the pill to see if I wanted to stay on it, and I lost a lot of weight right away, but everything else was irregular. However, I haven't been pregnant once, and that is the main reason I take the pill, so it's been a good and reliable method for me."

"I love Gianvi! It has been effective with no side effects. My skin is clear, I have a sex drive, I didn't gain weight, and my periods are lighter. I can't say anything bad about this pill. Sadly, I have to quit it because my new insurance won't pay for it."

"Gianvi gave me lighter and shorter periods, clear face, no cramps, no weight gain, and no spotting. The only bad things I have to say are that I was dry during sex sometimes (not sure if the pill was to blame), and I had very slight increased irritability (not severe enough to affect my life). I switched to Junel FE a week ago because I needed the extra iron, but if that doesn't work too well with my body, I will definitely switch back to Gianvi. Overall, it was a good pill for me."

"I was on Gianvi for two years and just stopped taking it because side effects were getting to me. PRO: cheap, cleared up my ache and prevented pregnancy. For several months, it reduced my migraines, and I felt no mood changes. CON: over time, my migraines got horrible and more frequent, breasts increased a cup size, felt in a constant 'brain fog,' had constant breakthrough bleeding that started triggering bacterial vaginosis infections, and got vaginal dryness. I think this may work for you if you aren't sensitive to hormones."

"When first taking this medicine, I was a bit nervous after having read so many negative reviews. Needless to say, this birth control has actually worked beautifully for me so far, and I am going into month three of taking it. I did experience severe nausea twice, once in the first month and again in the second. But other than that, no significant changes in my skin, weight, menstrual cycle, etc. My breasts increased in size only slightly. I will say, however, that the most surprising side effect was an increased sex drive, as I had assumed that my libido would take a dive after starting birth control in general."

"I switched to Gianvi from Aviane in hopes of clearing up my acne. I was VERY excited because Yaz is supposed to be a miracle. My experience was far from a miracle. My skin did not clear up AT ALL and got worse. I'm a freaking irrational hothead all month. I'm usually very good at shrugging off the small stuff, but it's like I have absolutely no control over my emotions anymore. I've become very lethargic; I could sleep all day if you'd let me. My once raging sex drive is now hardly existent. On the bright side, it did work strictly as birth control (hence the 4 rating). I've already made an appointment to switch."

"I have been taking Gianvi for about a year now. The first three months I felt fine, once in a blue moon, I would experience nausea. But after the first three months, my body was completely used to it. It was the first birth control I've ever taken. My gyno recommended it to me because she herself had been taking it for 12 years. So I trusted her opinion completely, and I'm glad I did. While taking Gianvi, I gained 6 pounds. I needed it though, and it all went to my breasts and bottom. I have grown a full cup size, and my bottom looks good. Nothing went to my waist or face. My sex drive has severely gone down though, and I cry at the drop of a dime. Both developed after taking this, but I'm willing to work on these things for myself."

"I started Gianvi because my Yaz switched to the generic. I did notice a larger growth in my breasts (nice) with an overall weight gain in 3 months of about 6 lbs (not so nice). I had nausea in the morning-I have never had that before and now dread what morning sickness must feel like. I also broke out like a teenager with cyst-type acne along my jawline, which after 3 months is just about clearing up with leftover spot marks. I did notice that I got yeast infections and an increased pH level within days after I had sex (which I never had on Yaz or Yasmin). I did not notice any bad mood."

"I was on Gianvi for about 3 years or so. At first, I really, really liked it. It was super easy to take, my skin cleared up, and my periods became sooo much easier, as well as I stopped getting cysts. However, towards the end of my taking the pill, I began to realize just how depressed it was making me. I began having suicidal thoughts, I was just in a really bad place, and then it occurred to me that it might have been the birth control affecting me, so I stopped taking it, and I have been so much happier, the depression is as if it was never there. Looking back, I miss Gianvi. It would have been perfect had it not affected my head."

"I have been on Gianvi for about 1 month and a half, and it's great. I haven't gotten pregnant, but I have noticed my appetite change. I don't want to eat the food I used to love, but it's definitely helping me lose weight, and this is ALWAYS good."

"I have taken Gianvi for about four years now, started it for birth control reasons. It cleared my face within months. I didn't feel any anxiety or anything that has to do with my mood. My sex drive has been the same with or without. Once I was taken off Gianvi and tried Vestura, Vestura affected me badly! I had terrible mood swings and felt terrible for those days taking it. Afterwards, I went back to Gianvi, and things got back to normal."

"This is the worst birth control choice ever! I was originally on a generic form of Yazmin and decided to try a lighter dose because of weight gain/decreased sex drive. I also started to break out around my period and knew this was supposed to help with acne. Well, it didn’t. My forehead now has little bumps under the skin that go away and come back in a week! I’ve been super emotional, and I cry almost every day since starting my second pack, and my migraines are so much worse! I don’t have a history of depression. It takes a lot for me to cry! Now I can’t control it! And to top it all off, I’ve been spotting for a week and a half. I’m done with this pill and not taking the last 2 of my 2nd pack."

"I have loved using Gianvi. I started it 7 months ago when I was married. My periods are regular, however, I never bloated or gained weight. However, I have never been such an emotional type until I started taking this pill, and as time went on, I have noticed I get a lot of migraines and often dizziness. I am almost certain it is because of this pill. It's bittersweet, but I will be switching to another brand to see if anything changes."
