"Physician. Relatively frequent flyer on red-eye flights. 25 mg doxylamine 15 min prior to boarding a red-eye flight cross country or trans-oceanic flights has allowed me to sleep soundly. Works far better than my previous routine of 50 mg diphenhydarmine (benedryl) plus a glass of wine. I recommend this without reservation to any who need to sleep on a flight of this kind. Only down side is that many... including me... will tend to be somewhat sleepy on arrival, and over the next 8 hours after arrival. $12 bought me a life-time supply. This medication seems to me superior in this application to any other prescription or non-prescription medication. Used occasionally on red-eye flights to get some good sleep."

"First off, I highly recommend taking only half a pill your first time trying this, unless you are used to sedation from other pills. A whole pill is 25mg, but that left me groggy the next day to the point that I was worthless. After a few days of 12.5mg I then "graduated" to 25mg. Hell, I've even tried 50mg before because I built a tolerance to this stuff. This pill used to put me & keep me asleep, but now it doesn't keep me asleep past a few hours, so I only take 1 pill to put me asleep, then take a prescription drug that has a longer half life to keep me asleep. But overall, I like this stuff better than diphenhydramine (benadryl)."

Unisom SleepTabs (doxylamine) "I have RLS and insomnia. I don't want to use an addictive medication for sleep. Unisom has thus far been very helpful. I start feeling the effects after about 30-45 minutes. Also I try not to take it every day. 1 every few days. I needed it and I'm happy with the results."

Unisom SleepTabs (doxylamine) "This worked wonders. I had a cough all day and wanted to be able to sleep it off. Cough syrups tend to give undesired side effects. I took this and had a humidifier in room. My cough actually stopped because the Unisom was drying me out. I slept like a baby. It helped me sleep in the next day and I feel a lot better."

"I have had insomnia since a hysterectomy in 2009, so began taking benadryl but that had the opposite effect on me & I became very jittery w/ "restless leg syndrome", so tried Unisom 25mg nightly. I have been taking Unisom now for 6 years and it has worked pretty well to help me sleep at night. However, 2 months ago I developed a fast & irregular heart rhythm. I am a nurse, so listened to my heart and could hear the missed beats when I felt them. It felt like I had just ran up a flight of stairs but I wasn't out of breath. My heart was just beating very rapidly and irregular. Couldn't figure out why I was having palpitations so quit taking & saw Dr. Diminished palpitations since I quit taking & all my heart tests and labs are normal."

"doxylamine is called Restavit in Oz, I have chronic insomnia caused by tinnitus. I take 2 tablets 30mins before bed and get a good nights sleep. I try to mix it up alternating between Melatonin and magnesium."

"This medication WILL put you to sleep. However, I had the adverse "Hangover effect." I took one pill at eight in the morning (I work nights), and could not pull myself out of bed until after 9pm. I may try again with just a half pill."

Unisom SleepTabs (doxylamine) "I moved to Hawaii 2 months ago and have had insomnia since I've been here. I decided to buy unisom and give it a try. First time, did absolutely nothing. Second time it took approximately 3 hours to fall asleep. So I decided to up the dose to 2 pills. It's 50/50 chance to fall asleep within an 2 hours. When it does work, I wake up groggy and unbalanced and takes a few hours to shake it off. I don't recommend this product. It just doesn't seem to work like it claims"

Unisom SleepTabs (doxylamine) "I have has trouble sleeping so I turned to an over the counter sleep aid, unisom gels, in the start I was taken one as time went on I up to 2 pills a nite. I do fall asleep in about one hour and half, I feel like I can’t fall asleep with out them and they work 80 percent of the time. I truly have vivid dreams and they are all about my achievements I think about reaching, overall I just put them out of my mind when I wake up but if I try to understand them I’ll make myself nuts so I just say it’s just a dream. The most important issue I have is to just get a good nite sleep works for me"

"Great for insomnia. Best to be used pulsating (one day on, one day off), but can also be used day after day. No annoying side effects (only dry mouth, but when you sleep you don't notice) and very effective. No addiction, no withdrawal."

"I took 2 Restavit tablets last night at 10pm, fell asleep about 11:30pm. I woke up a few times during the night but fell back asleep easily. It definitely works; great for insomnia but terrible (for me) the morning after. I woke up feeling totally unrefreshed and like a zombie. Had a cup of coffee and still felt that way. I have had to take the day off work as I felt like my ability to work was compromised. I went back to sleep and woke up at 1:30pm. I still have muscle weakness and have had to push myself to cook lunch. Sure, this medication is good for sleep, but the negative side effects lasting most of the next day have defeated the purpose of taking it for me. I will only take one IF I don't have anything on the next day!"

"Best OTC sleep aid I've been able to find! A simple half pill [~12mg] will knock me out in about 15-20 minutes after I have taken it. Of course as with most sleep aids there is definite sluggish feeling in the morning. Caffeine generally gets rid of this feeling."

Sleep Aid (doxylamine) "I was finding before I took sleep aid from Costco I would fall asleep but could not stay asleep. Now with just one before bedtime (usually 20 to 30 min) I fall asleep, stay asleep and have incredible dreams. Very vivid, sometimes detailed dreams. Best part is, I wake up, and feel great. Sleep is so important. The only reason I am giving it a 9, instead of 10, sometimes I get a little dizzy if I do have to take a night time trip to the BR."

Unisom SleepTabs (doxylamine) "This is the first time I took unisom. I'm pregnant and have been having trouble sleeping. I took it the first night and I as asleep within 30 minutes. It was the best sleep I've had in awhile and woke up feeling great but the second night taking it didn't go so well. It didn't make me drowsy one bit. I tried taking a second pill and nothing worked. I'm not sure why it worked the first night for me but not the second. :("

"After trying various over the counter sleep aids (Benadryl) and prescription sleep aids (Ambien, didn't work unless I used in high doses, in which case I hallucinated), Doxylamine works! I used to have to take 100 mgs/ 4 Benadryl, in addition to various prescription tranquilizers/benzodiazepines for insomnia. Can't believe how quickly it works. I still have to take 50 mgs in addition to a prescription tranquilizer, but after years of OTC medicines not working, I can't believe how well this one did. Don't recommend 2 pills/50 mgs for most people. I'm very difficult to sedate."

"I took 1/2 before going to bed and fell asleep immediately. It was very hard to wake up in the morning. I couldn't wake up until 4pm. I was suffering. Then the whole day I was out of my mind. I couldn't concentrate on work, I couldn't even remember where the specific files were. I couldn't do anything. I was very anxious and nervous. Everything was making me mad and cry and I had increased libido - what a combination ! I don't recommend this drug."

"It's kinda funny. I was able to get this from pharmacies prescription-free when I was 19 years old. I was suffering from insomnia related to depression and anxiety. It helped me a lot. It had 0 side effects. I used it long-term, 25-50 mg daily. I'm 23 years old now. It's been 4 years since I've touched this medication. I'm currently on Seroquel 50 mg for sleep. I can't sleep without it. It makes me gain weight though. I gained so much weight with even 50 mg Seroquel. I've tried trazodone but it gave me a clogged nose. I had to use nasal spray to be able to breathe from my nose. Other antihistamines such as Atarax left me in a zombie state the next day. Mirtazapine caused intense weight gain. I think I'm gonna go back to using this because it worked like magic. Within 30 minutes of taking it, I used to fall asleep. I miss that feeling. Probably the best medication I've ever used for insomnia in my life. Didn't try stuff like Ambien yet. Just reporting my past experience with Unisom tablets."

"I am sensitive to this stuff. Half a pill is too much - next day downer and also bladder irritation. So I cut down and cut down. The pills I have just shatter into a powder when you try to cut. So I collected the powder in a little tube. I stick a finger into the powder and lick it off! I guess I am taking 1/6 of a pill. This works well and next day is quite OK. Dose is very personal. Better than 0.25mg Xanax."

"I have had trouble sleeping since I was a child. I've tried the "Z" drugs and the benzodiazepines. Because I have an addiction problem so I am careful not to ask for them, so my Dr. doesn't think I'm taking inappropriately (and because they are addictive). So I tried the doxylamine (Unisom). The first pill, 25 mg didn't do much so I took a second and I slept wonderfully. But the second time I took 50mg I woke up in the kitchen. They make me sleep walk, and sometimes I sort of hallucinate right after I wake up from sleep walking. I think maybe there might be a drug interaction of some sort. So, its a helpful sleep aid, but I would take it with caution or ask your doctor if you take it with other psychoactive medications."

"Restavit does work! I find it absorbs quicker by taking only ONE tablet before I eat the first mouthful of dinner as the later I leave it the longer it takes to work. E.g. if its 8pm I could feel dozy 15-90 mins after tablet been consumed. The hangover feeling is there at times, however it can make you feel worse if its closer to that time of month....for ladies."

Equate Sleep Aid (doxylamine) "I DO NOT sleep well ever. I needed something to help my body realise its time for bed and with this Equate Sleep aid definitely does the job. Does it keep me asleep? No but it does help me fall asleep. I also wake up the next day feeling pretty good. Sometimes I feel groggy but after I motivate myself I feel great"

"Unfortunately the doxylamine did not help at all for insomnia. I took 15 mg to start and was still awake for most of the night. When I did finally fall asleep I kept waking up extremely thirsty. I took 25 mg the next night and again was still awake for most of the night and very thirsty. Slight heart burn as well and increased anxiety so probably not the best if you already suffer from anxiety."
