"After trying various over-the-counter sleep aids (Benadryl) and prescription sleep aids (Ambien, didn't work unless I used it in high doses, in which case I hallucinated), doxylamine works! I used to have to take 100 mgs/4 Benadryl, in addition to various prescription tranquilizers/benzodiazepines for insomnia. Can't believe how quickly it works. I still have to take 50 mgs in addition to a prescription tranquilizer, but after years of OTC medicines not working, I can't believe how well this one did. Don't recommend 2 pills/50 mgs for most people. I'm very difficult to sedate."

"Doxylamine is called Restavit in Oz. I have chronic insomnia caused by tinnitus. I take 2 tablets 30 mins before bed and get a good night's sleep. I try to mix it up, alternating between melatonin and magnesium."

"Best OTC sleep aid I've been able to find! A simple half pill [~12 mg] will knock me out in about 15-20 minutes after I have taken it. Of course, as with most sleep aids, there is a definite sluggish feeling in the morning. Caffeine generally gets rid of this feeling."

Doxylamine "It works perfectly for me to go to sleep. I only took half of the tab. I slept the whole night for 10 hours, but I had a hard time trying to wake up! I felt dizzy and had a migraine. I read everything about side effects, so I realized that I can't take this substance because I'm taking Eutirox because I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. It works, but it's not good for me."

Doxylamine "I have had trouble sleeping, so I turned to an over-the-counter sleep aid, Unisom gels. In the start, I was taking one, as time went on, I upped to 2 pills a night. I do fall asleep in about one hour and a half. I feel like I can’t fall asleep without them, and they work 80 percent of the time. I truly have vivid dreams, and they are all about my achievements I think about reaching. Overall, I just put them out of my mind when I wake up, but if I try to understand them, I’ll make myself nuts, so I just say it’s just a dream. The most important issue I have is to just get a good night’s sleep. Works for me."

"I took 1/2 before going to bed and fell asleep immediately. It was very hard to wake up in the morning. I couldn't wake up until 4 PM. I was suffering. Then the whole day I was out of my mind. I couldn't concentrate on work, I couldn't even remember where the specific files were. I couldn't do anything. I was very anxious and nervous. Everything was making me mad and cry, and I had increased libido - what a combination! I don't recommend this drug."

"Great for insomnia. Best to be used pulsating (one day on, one day off), but can also be used day after day. No annoying side effects (only dry mouth, but when you sleep, you don't notice) and very effective. No addiction, no withdrawal."

"First off, I highly recommend taking only half a pill your first time trying this, unless you are used to sedation from other pills. A whole pill is 25 mg, but that left me groggy the next day to the point that I was worthless. After a few days of 12.5 mg, I then 'graduated' to 25 mg. Hell, I've even tried 50 mg before because I built a tolerance to this stuff. This pill used to put me and keep me asleep, but now it doesn't keep me asleep past a few hours, so I only take 1 pill to put me asleep, then take a prescription drug that has a longer half-life to keep me asleep. But overall, I like this stuff better than diphenhydramine (Benadryl)."

"After a few nights of waking really early and not being able to get back to sleep, I was given these from the pharmacist. A very traumatic experience followed. Paranoia, feeling of being disconnected from reality, feeling physically weird, very little sleep, headache, dry mouth. Truly awful experience."

Doxylamine "I have been experiencing insomnia for the past several years. I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine. My doctor has prescribed Ambien for my insomnia, but it only works some of the time, so I started adding the sleep tabs. I have read reviews where people have to only take 1/4-1/2 a tablet to sleep, me, I can take 2 or 3 with Ambien and still stay awake for the night. I'm not sure why, but it doesn't work for me. I'm working with my GP to resolve the issue because I can go for weeks on only 1 or 2 hours a night sleep. It makes it difficult to focus and be on my game at work. Just an FYI for those looking for something that works..."

"I have had insomnia since a hysterectomy in 2009, so I began taking Benadryl, but that had the opposite effect on me, and I became very jittery with 'restless leg syndrome,' so I tried Unisom 25 mg nightly. I have been taking Unisom now for 6 years, and it has worked pretty well to help me sleep at night. However, 2 months ago, I developed a fast and irregular heart rhythm. I am a nurse, so I listened to my heart and could hear the missed beats when I felt them. It felt like I had just run up a flight of stairs, but I wasn't out of breath. My heart was just beating very rapidly and irregularly. Couldn't figure out why I was having palpitations, so I quit taking it and saw my doctor. Diminished palpitations since I quit taking it, and all my heart tests and labs are normal."

Doxylamine "I suffer from insomnia. I was even taking lorazepam for a long time, but I had to stop because it interacted with another medicine I had to take. So I decided to try Unisom tablets after so many other sleeping aids failed, and this worked great for me! I used it for three days, and I'm happy to say I have been sleeping on my own ever since!"

Doxylamine "I moved to Hawaii 2 months ago and have had insomnia since I've been here. I decided to buy Unisom and give it a try. First time, it did absolutely nothing. Second time, it took approximately 3 hours to fall asleep. So I decided to up the dose to 2 pills. It's a 50/50 chance to fall asleep within 2 hours. When it does work, I wake up groggy and unbalanced and it takes a few hours to shake it off. I don't recommend this product. It just doesn't seem to work like it claims."

Doxylamine "This worked wonders. I had a cough all day and wanted to be able to sleep it off. Cough syrups tend to give undesired side effects. I took this and had a humidifier in the room. My cough actually stopped because the Unisom was drying me out. I slept like a baby. It helped me sleep in the next day, and I feel a lot better."

"I have had trouble sleeping since I was a child. I've tried the 'Z' drugs and the benzodiazepines. Because I have an addiction problem, I am careful not to ask for them, so my doctor doesn't think I'm taking inappropriately (and because they are addictive). So I tried doxylamine (Unisom). The first pill, 25 mg, didn't do much, so I took a second, and I slept wonderfully. But the second time I took 50 mg, I woke up in the kitchen. They make me sleepwalk, and sometimes I sort of hallucinate right after I wake up from sleepwalking. I think maybe there might be a drug interaction of some sort. So, it's a helpful sleep aid, but I would take it with caution or ask your doctor if you take it with other psychoactive medications."

"Best stuff ever! I've been stressed out lately and not sleeping well at all. Toss, turn, uncomfortable at times. I tried a Unisom Gel Cap - it didn't do a thing. These little BLUE PILLS work. I took the entire pill and rested to say that I slept soundly for 8+ hours! Highly recommend!!!!"

"Unfortunately, the doxylamine did not help at all for insomnia. I took 15 mg to start and was still awake for most of the night. When I did finally fall asleep, I kept waking up extremely thirsty. I took 25 mg the next night and again was still awake for most of the night and very thirsty. Slight heartburn as well and increased anxiety, so probably not the best if you already suffer from anxiety."

"I took 2 Restavit tablets last night at 10 PM, fell asleep about 11:30 PM. I woke up a few times during the night but fell back asleep easily. It definitely works; great for insomnia but terrible (for me) the morning after. I woke up feeling totally unrefreshed and like a zombie. Had a cup of coffee and still felt that way. I have had to take the day off work as I felt like my ability to work was compromised. I went back to sleep and woke up at 1:30 PM. I still have muscle weakness and have had to push myself to cook lunch. Sure, this medication is good for sleep, but the negative side effects lasting most of the next day have defeated the purpose of taking it for me. I will only take one if I don't have anything on the next day!"

"My OB recommended this for my insomnia/racing thoughts at night in pregnancy. Took 25 mg and was out within 30 minutes and tired the next day. Cut down to 1/2 a pill and was much better. Haven't gotten a full night's sleep in 6 months and was losing my mind, it completely fixed that. I will say that if I don't drink lots of water with it, I get terrible headaches, but as long as I stay hydrated and give myself 8 hours to sleep, I am ready and wake up right away with my alarm in the best mood I've had since the pregnancy started."

Doxylamine "This Unisom pill is absolutely useless. I wake in the middle of the night on 4/5 hours of sleep and figured I'd try it out because it was 'extra strength.' I started taking 2 because nothing was happening when I took 1. Nothing after 2 - it did nothing. At best, I'd get a slight yawn and a little dozy after an hour, but not enough to fall asleep. Save yourself the $12 per bottle they want and don't buy this pill."

Doxylamine "I've always had a hard time falling and staying asleep. Seems like I've tried everything, including meditation, sleep noise apps, music, melatonin, making the room freezing, warming the room up, and reducing caffeine and stimulants before bed. Bought some Unisom to see if it would help. Taking as directed, 1 pill at bedtime. Still takes me a good hour of tossing and turning, and then I'm awake every hour or two all night and wake up with a dry mouth. Maybe I'll go back to 10 mg melatonin because that seemed to work best."

"I am sensitive to this stuff. Half a pill is too much - next day downer and also bladder irritation. So I cut down and cut down. The pills I have just shatter into a powder when you try to cut. So I collected the powder in a little tube. I stick a finger into the powder and lick it off! I guess I am taking 1/6 of a pill. This works well and next day is quite OK. Dose is very personal. Better than 0.25 mg Xanax."

Doxylamine "These have saved my sanity. After a rough 2 years that caused me to drink more than I should, my sleep cycles became extremely disrupted. I gave up alcohol, but nothing helped restore my sleep. I am leery of prescription meds due to a history of dependence. Nothing I tried over the counter worked. Benadryl didn't touch me, so I didn't expect much. In the past 2 years, I averaged 2 hours of sleep a night. Because of my experience with nothing working, I took 2 of these the first night. BIG mistake. I slept 13 hours and could hardly stay awake the next day. The last 2 nights, I have taken one and slept 8 hours but still some grogginess. I will try 1/2 tab tonight, but this medicine has given me so much hope for sleeping again."

"I've been having terrible insomnia these days, and diphenhydramine just puts me in a weird zone where I can't sleep. Took 25 mg of doxylamine at 10 PM and was out by 10:45 PM. Didn't wake up until 2 PM the next day! Feel like I made up for all the sleep I've missed this week!"
