"This drug, Unisom with doxylamine succinate, has really helped me to get good sleep for the past two months. I take from 1/3 to 1/2 of a pill because taking an entire pill makes me really groggy the next morning. Prior to this, I was waking up every hour or two and was experiencing anxiety, and I really appreciate this sleep aid so much as I sleep straight through the night now."

"It's kinda funny. I was able to get this from pharmacies prescription-free when I was 19 years old. I was suffering from insomnia related to depression and anxiety. It helped me a lot. It had 0 side effects. I used it long-term, 25-50 mg daily. I'm 23 years old now. It's been 4 years since I've touched this medication. I'm currently on Seroquel 50 mg for sleep. I can't sleep without it. It makes me gain weight though. I gained so much weight with even 50 mg Seroquel. I've tried trazodone but it gave me a clogged nose. I had to use nasal spray to be able to breathe from my nose. Other antihistamines such as Atarax left me in a zombie state the next day. Mirtazapine caused intense weight gain. I think I'm gonna go back to using this because it worked like magic. Within 30 minutes of taking it, I used to fall asleep. I miss that feeling. Probably the best medication I've ever used for insomnia in my life. Didn't try stuff like Ambien yet. Just reporting my past experience with Unisom tablets."

Doxylamine "I was prescribed Diclegis by my OB for extreme nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Diclegis is not covered by insurance, so I researched what it was, and it's basically Unisom and Vitamin B6. Now the active ingredient is what is in the sleep tabs, not gels. The gels have diphenhydramine, so if you are using this review to help ease nausea during pregnancy, make sure you are buying the sleep tabs. Anyway, I take one tab at night (check it is the right dose: doxylamine 10mg) and it totally works. I don't wake up feeling nauseated at all, and I sleep through the night. I do feel a little groggy in the AM, but it's hard to tell if it's from the pill or pregnancy in general. Upon further research, I discovered that the tabs were originally designed to help with nausea. Hope this helps!"

Doxylamine "I'm a 23-year-old with severe anxiety and insomnia, and my insomnia has been getting worse over the past few months. I can't remember the last time I slept through the night or fell asleep in less than three hours. Melatonin did nothing for me, and Benadryl didn't do much either. I tried Unisom last night. I fell asleep much faster than usual-probably took me about 30 minutes. But after 2 1/2 hours, I was awake again. I couldn't fall back to sleep. I tried looking up if I could take another 25 mg (I had taken 50 mg before I went to sleep), but I couldn't find anything about whether 75 mg total is too much. I'm frustrated because it put me to sleep so quickly, and I slept heavily, but it lasted so short a time that it barely made a difference."

"I've taken 25 mg for five nights and found that it does help me sleep. Unfortunately, it can put me to sleep for 12 hours, leaving me feeling groggy and unwilling to do much else for the rest of the day. I might use it on days when sleep is badly needed and I've nothing to do the next day. Possible side effects for elders are serious and apply to me, so that also will limit my use."

Doxylamine "I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant. I've been having some trouble sleeping, so I decided to take Unisom. I've never felt so restless in my life! I'm wide awake, dry mouth, awful taste in my mouth. I think it had the opposite effect on me. I feel sleepy but just cannot fall asleep. Very frustrating, gonna have to find another solution."

Doxylamine "I've always had trouble falling asleep, so I bought these one day to try them out, and they work great for me. They knock me out in 30 minutes, and I get a good night's rest. I use it every once in a while when I have a lot on my mind and just want to sleep. The only downside to it is that I have a very hard time getting up in the morning when I take one, and it makes me sleep even longer, which I don't prefer because it messes with my sleep schedule."

"I took doxylamine for the first time last night. I have suffered terribly from opioid withdrawal-induced insomnia for a long period of time, and to sleep, I was given Seroquel, which did not help but left me completely 'hangovered' in the mornings and had serious side effects. Instead, I tried the OTC doxylamine, and I have slept seven straight hours without nightmares and feel great and wide awake in the morning. I cannot generalize after only one experience but would really like to recommend it."

"Benadryl (diphenhydramine) gives me restless leg syndrome, but I don’t have that issue with Unisom Sleep Tabs (doxylamine succinate). I have extreme insomnia, and I find that these pills will get me to sleep, and I have no problems getting up in the morning to go to work. It also does not make me groggy."

"I am taking Restavit to help with long-term insomnia. I am very sensitive to drowsy medicines and have gotten down to taking 1/8 of a tablet with excellent results. Even if I do not feel sleepy when I go to bed, once I close my eyes, I easily drift off to sleep. It also helps with my stress-related anxiety throughout the day. I will be looking at having it compounded to the amount I need, as the smallest dose available is 25 mg, which I cut down to eight pieces. I would recommend it to those waking up groggy trying to cut down the amount to the minimum needed to sleep."

Doxylamine "My OB/GYN Dr. put me on this medication because I’m pregnant and have trouble sleeping. It’s working for the most part, mind you, I was on trazodone for years, so it was kinda rough in the beginning. I’ve been on it 10 weeks now, and I suffer from these nightmares. I wake up in a state of fear, and a lot of times I scream. It’s getting worse. I’m not sure if it’s my hormones because of my pregnancy or the Unisom. Has anyone had any experience with realistic nightmares while on this medication?"

"I have been an insomniac for many years. I started taking 1/2 tab of a 25 mg doxylamine sleep aid, and it kicks in within 30 min, and I sleep a very good 7 hours without side effects. It works very well for me."

"The doxylamine brand I take is called Restavit. Tablets are 25 mg, taking one is too much for me, knocks me out for half the next day. I now only take one-third of a tablet (8 mg approx.). I have a BMI of 24. I only take it once a week to help with non-sleeping."

Doxylamine "I break the 25 mg tabs into thirds and take it about an hour before bed. I try to have at least 7 hours for sleeping. More is better. Only feel groggy when my sleep time is less than 7 hours. Love it! I also use the generic versions."

"I took one 25 mg doxylamine pill, and it knocked me out, made me hungry first. I woke up a few times during the night and felt very drugged. I had 9 hours before I had to wake up, didn't feel like it was enough, I was very groggy for several hours. I tried half the pill, still too much. I take a quarter of the 25 mg pill, and it works well, oftentimes even less than that. I find I need to take it at least 7 hours before my alarm goes off. After 15 min awake, I am alert and ready to go. I find it hard to sleep without but have been taking it for a few months like this now and find I haven't needed more. Sometimes there is a headache, but I don't know if it can be attributed to the pill."

"Physician. Relatively frequent flyer on red-eye flights. 25 mg doxylamine 15 min prior to boarding a red-eye flight cross country or trans-oceanic flights has allowed me to sleep soundly. Works far better than my previous routine of 50 mg diphenhydramine (Benadryl) plus a glass of wine. I recommend this without reservation to anyone who needs to sleep on a flight of this kind. Only downside is that many, including me, will tend to be somewhat sleepy on arrival, and over the next 8 hours after arrival. $12 bought me a lifetime supply. This medication seems to me superior in this application to any other prescription or non-prescription medication. Used occasionally on red-eye flights to get some good sleep."

"I have been using this drug (known in Australia as Restavit). I can only use half a tablet because it is so strong. Last night, my girlfriend used it with disastrous consequences. She sleepwalked and talked the entire night. Several times, she apparently awoke only to begin babbling back in her dream state. She was constantly getting up and walking around, turning on lights. She was crying uncontrollably at times for half an hour at a time. This morning, she has no recollection of any of it. I will keep using it. She will not."

"After taking doxylamine for over 8 months for severe insomnia, I have gained over 15 lbs. I'm only 5'1'' & 15 lbs is a significant weight gain. I've never been overweight, I've been consuming fewer calories & no change in weight. The doxylamine helps with my insomnia, but I cannot continue using it because of weight gain."

Doxylamine "Today, my 1st time taking Unisom. I took a Unisom gel at 20:07, and it's 22:00 already, and I'm still wide awake. Since it's only been 2 hours, the side effects haven't kicked in yet (if I even get them). I heard it's supposed to make you fall asleep 30 minutes after taking it, well, so far, to me, it's not working."

Doxylamine "There are two variations of Unisom, one has the same ingredient as Benadryl, the other contains doxylamine. I used the one containing doxylamine. I've taken it (1/2 tablet then decreased to 1/4 tablet) several times, and though it does help with sleep, the side effects of increased anxiety upon waking and worsening of my chronic depression, as well as feeling drowsy throughout the day after waking, make it a no-go for me. I wish I had read more about the potential side effects on mental health prior to taking, as I spent some rough days these past few weeks before realizing this OTC was the culprit."

"One tablet knocked me out cold, the next day, I started to come alive about lunchtime, but felt groggy for the rest of the day. I take a quarter of a tablet now and it works beautifully, I sleep well with nil grogginess the next day. The packet says to take 1-2 tablets, too much for me, I can't imagine taking two tablets! Although I'm a petite lady, I do only weigh 54 kg."

Doxylamine "I'm a 43-year-old healthy female who has had recent spinal disc degeneration, so pain has been tough. Sleep was always a bit elusive except when exercise was a big part of my life; now sleep has gotten more unobtainable. I used to get a prescription for Ambien, but as predicted, it stopped working quickly with tolerance (non-addictive like Unisom, but habit-forming and awful on memory - be wary of zolpidem/Ambien). Unisom and its generic have contributed to depression and ill feelings. I think this is quite literally as the bottle reads, for occasional sleeplessness. Wishing it worked more regularly."

Doxylamine "I have RLS and insomnia. I don't want to use an addictive medication for sleep. Unisom has thus far been very helpful. I start feeling the effects after about 30-45 minutes. Also, I try not to take it every day. 1 every few days. I needed it, and I'm happy with the results."

"This medication will put you to sleep. However, I had the adverse 'hangover effect.' I took one pill at eight in the morning (I work nights) and could not pull myself out of bed until after 9 PM. I may try again with just a half pill."
