For Lyme Disease "I was bitten on my lower leg Thursday and noticed a quarter-size red rash that was warm, hard, dizziness, and pain up my leg. Took ibuprofen/Benadryl and went to bed. Friday AM, the rash was more red with two clear puncture marks. Called my telehealth and got an antibiotic for a spider bite. Friday PM, the bite was worse. Puncture marks/rash both bigger. Saturday AM, went to urgent care and the doctor said it was Lyme. Rash was a bullseye, hard, swollen, and 6”x5”. The doctor prescribed 100mg of doxycycline 2x/day for 5 days. Drank water/took without food for the first 4 days without issues. By the 5th day, had a fever/threw up (not sure if Lyme or doxycycline related). By PM, lost vision, eye pressure, headache, and chest pain. Let PCP know and stopped due to severe side effects. Started amoxicillin. I feel doxycycline can be great to stop Lyme (noticed rash decreased with bruising within 4 days), but side effects weren’t worth it. Developed secondary rashes on legs/hips, not sure if due to Lyme or doxycycline."

For Bronchitis "I had tried this drug before in the past for bronchitis and had to stop on day 2 because of a headache, dizziness, and an overall feeling of being out of it. Yesterday, the doctor prescribed it to me again for bronchitis, 100 mg x 2 a day. Took the first pill last night and woke up to a pounding headache and feeling out of it again. Called the pharmacist, and he informed me that with these reactions, I should NOT take it again. There is a risk of cerebral hypertension that not a lot of people mention. If you are feeling dizzy with a headache on this medication, you should call your pharmacist and doctor just to be on the safe side. I wished I could have taken it as I started to see improvement in my symptoms of bronchitis the last time I took it within 2 doses. Guess I'll have to stick to the Z-Pak and hope it can knock this out of me."

Doxycycline for Acne "I am 18 years old, and before Monodox, I was on Minocycline for almost two years, and it worked tremendously until about two months ago. My old breakouts came back much stronger, and my dermatologist said that I had gained tolerance for the medicine. I continue to use Benzaclin, but I am now using Monodox. It seemed to work well at first, although the doctor told me it would take about three weeks. I just finished my second week. Although I do still have breakouts, certain spots on my face feel very clean and have healing acne scars. Hopefully, the rest of the breakout will clear up in this coming week, but otherwise, I have not experienced any side effects mentioned, such as nausea or dizziness."

Doxycycline for Bacterial Infection "I am allergic to penicillin and related drugs, so my options mostly relate to tetracycline and its relations. For me, that has been doxycycline. I have used it for respiratory and sinus/gum infections. This time, I developed severe pain in the sinuses, significant discharge of nasty mucus with coughing, body aches, and bilateral ear pain resulting in dizziness. This occurred 3 days after I returned from a 14-day trip through the Southwestern states. The doctor did a full exam. Temperatures were in 99.9 to 101.7 at first. It took about 4-5 days at a dose of 100x2 per day, but it is working. I still have aches, and my ears are still blocked somewhat with some dizziness, but hoping that will clear. Tomorrow is day 7. The doctor will check in at day 10. So far, so good."

For Acne "I've been on doxycycline monohydrate 50 mg for about 8 months now for rosacea. The past 3 months I've been experiencing horrible dizziness accompanied by a bit of blurry vision. After a trip to the ER and an MRI to find out why I'm feeling like this, I stopped taking this to see if it's causing my issues. Sure enough, it was. After being off it for 3 days now, I'm starting to feel much better. It did help with my acne, but I couldn't handle the side effects."

For Acne "So I have been on lymecycline around two times and been on every cream that's known to man. I'm currently on doxy with benzoyl peroxide cream. So my new GP says that now apparently for people to pass requirements for Accutane, they need to have been on at least two antibiotics and three creams, so he put me on doxy (didn't want to) at one tablet a day for three months. Within three days of taking it, I can't drive at night because every light feels like full beam. The first time, I admit I took it on an empty stomach (was never told anything), so I thought okay, I'll take it with food... Nope, it's still awful. I'm pretty sure from two sets of lymecycline, which just didn't work after the first time, I feel like it's safe to presume I have now got antibiotic resistance to these drugs, so doxy is just a waste of time for me at least. Side effects so far: (after three days!) - Feeling dizzy - Cold - Throwing up - No strength to do anything - A few pimples have come in places I haven't had problems with."

For Acne "It has helped clear up my acne, but it also has given me annoying side effects. Whenever I take it, it always makes my stomach make really loud and embarrassing sounds. It also gives me indigestion and nausea even if I take it with food. Yet another side effect is that it makes me dizzy and lightheaded. I've also noticed that my skin is becoming really itchy and even more sensitive than it normally is. I've been on it for less than a week, and it's great that my skin looks kind of decent again, but I don't think I can put up with the side effects anymore, especially the itching, dizziness, and indigestion. Looks like I'll have to find something else to help with my moderate acne."

For Bacterial Infection "Stepped on a stingray in Mexico, and my foot got super infected. Swollen, hot to touch, fever for a few days. Upon my return, I was prescribed this medication. I was 4 days in and started experiencing pressure in my head, headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, shortness of breath, and a rapid heartbeat. I stopped taking this medication immediately. It's been a week since I stopped, and still have the dizziness and now what appears to be a respiratory infection. Bad medication and will never take again or recommend."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Was given this doxycycline for cellulitis in my leg, (4th time I've had cellulitis in the same area). I had various side effects, i.e., headache, stomach cramps, metallic and bitter taste, (like radiotherapy!) vertigo, and it didn't get rid of the cellulitis. Had to have a further course of another antibiotic. Side effects settled down after 5 days, course was for 7 days. There was some improvement after 5 days but no cure of the condition. One can only speak as one finds."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I took 2 doses. The first had no side effects. The second brought extreme nausea. It's the first time I vomited in 30+ years, including when I had food poisoning. This was followed by dizziness and headache, though those could have been from all the retching. I discontinued it."

For Pneumonia "Got pneumonia after a surgery and was prescribed Doxy 100 mg 2 x daily. Did everything I was supposed to. By day 4, I was experiencing a mild headache, what felt like sinus pressure, but by day 6, a full-on drunk feeling. Very dizzy and hard to focus. I feel like my infection is gone, but was directed to stop the antibiotic because of side effects."

For Rosacea "This doxy really works. After 2 weeks, my skin was amazing. Then, after my course finished, 2 weeks later, it came back with a vengeance. I got pustules where previously I had nothing. I also developed tinnitus, a loud buzzing that drove me mad. I lost all my energy, my joints hurt, and I had vertigo for months afterwards. This is a quick fix to clear your skin, but the rebound will destroy you. Better taking a low dose of isotretinoin, not antibiotics."

For Acne "I've never had skin problems as I was growing up until I was 21. I started having pimples on my face, and then before I knew it, I had an acne problem within a short period of time. I didn't know what to use, so I tried facial products (Garnier and herbal soaps), none of them worked. I stopped using them and started using Sunlight bar soap for my face, pimples would dry out after using it. In March of this year, I consulted a medical practitioner, and he prescribed cyclidox. I'm taking 1 capsule daily, and I don't see any change on my face. I've experienced the nausea side effect, extremely painful stomachache, and dizziness. It's been 22 days now since I started using these pills, I don't know if it's early to expect changes or if this medicine is too slow for me. Also, I need something to apply on my face while taking these pills, as I don't know what works best to remove acne. Please help..."

For Lyme Disease "I was on doxy three times within 8 weeks. Each time, I was prescribed 100 mg 2x a day. The first time was 21 days for Lyme disease and shingles at the same time, things were okay, just a little dizzy. After being off it a week, the second time was 7 days for a cellulitis infection, I felt queasy and dizzy with it that time. The third time was about a week later after a small hand surgery. After 1 1/2 days, I was so sick, I had nausea, dizziness, and vomiting. I threw the doxy away. I believe my body was done with taking so much of it in a close time frame."

For Prostatitis "Taking this medicine for six days now for possible prostatitis and feel I can't take it anymore due to severe side effects. 24-hour/day diarrhea is the worst I've ever had. Felt quite bloated and cramped with general abdominal pain. Also had a few headaches, which I never have, and had flu-like symptoms after day four. Also had difficulty concentrating with some dizziness. Food had no taste, except for sweeter foods like juice. Wake up at night every hour or so to pee and feel very thirsty. No way could I go to work or travel while taking this drug. I can usually tough out most any drug side effect, but the general feelings of despair and even suicidal thoughts scare me. Will be calling the pharmacist today for advice."

For Acne "Just a little update from my previous review about this drug. So I'm coming to the end of my first month on this drug, and so far it's been awful. I have had a purge about 50 times before, so I know one when I see one, but after around 12 days of my acne staying the same, it's now breaking out in places I haven't had spots in for years... and doesn't seem to be a purge and cleaning. I think personally the doxy has just become ineffective after the 12 days, so it's just doing nothing but causing it. So far, my eyes have been too sensitive to drive, I have thrown up almost twice every week, constantly feel dizzy and weak, and I don't see why I should continue it. Giving it another week, then I'm stopping it and demanding Accutane. Unless your acne is really mild, I wouldn't even bother using this, as it won't do anything. The only drug that's actually proven to work is Accutane."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was prescribed this after my other antibiotics didn’t fully clear my sinus infection. Because of my first antibiotic, I ended up getting fluid in my ear, causing vertigo and was prescribed this. Every time I take this, I instantly feel like vomiting. I have taken it with and without food and still feel horrible nausea and vomiting right after. After I vomit, I feel fine. This is the only antibiotics I have taken that makes me vomit, though it is one of the most common side effects. I can’t wait to get done with this round of antibiotics and hopefully it clears up my ear."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed doxycycline for pneumonia. I had a 14-day course. The pills did not make me sick at all until day 12. I woke up with the chills, started sweating, and felt nauseous. I felt better after a few hours, so I took another pill as I had to take it twice a day. After taking the 2nd pill on day 12, I threw up, and I felt dizzy and nauseous for 2 more days after completing the 12-day course. I missed 2 days of work as I was sick in bed for 2 days. I never completed the 14-day course as I stopped on day 12. It did get rid of the pneumonia, but it also made me very sick. Maybe the doctor should have just put me on for 7-10 days rather than 14 days."

For Bacterial Infection "I was amazed at how many conditions this treats. It’s the first time I’ve ever used it, and I’m 48. This drug must be high quality and more expensive. I had this for a possible pelvic infection, 14 days, 100 mg, 2 times a day. I had no side effects, only dry mouth. I think due to the water intake helped, as this is a dehydrating medication. I usually drink a bottle, 1.5 liters, day and night. On this medication, I must have been drinking 2 liters. In the night, I have a habit of waking up, drinking water, and going to the toilet about 3 times a night. While taking this medication, I had to drink more water, as I was waking up with a dry mouth. If you can hydrate, I think it will help keep away the side effects like headaches, dizziness, which are natural if you get dehydrated. I took this with food or just after food. Spread it to a time of 11-12 hours, space, but took it 2 hours before I went to sleep. After finishing this course, I felt confident that any infection had gone, and I felt better too. Good antibiotics."

For Pneumonia "Seemed to work at first, but then about two weeks later (still taking it), I’m starting to feel the bubbling in my lungs again. On top of that, I got weird blisters I never seen before in my entire life on my hand, my throat was so sore I could hardly swallow. It stopped once I stopped taking the medication, I took all except one. It does cause nausea, which I remedied by eating a lot of food and drinking water back to back, but after an hour of taking it, I would feel hot and dizzy and anxious and have a weird shortness of breath, like I forgot how to breathe. I’m just going to put this medication down as an allergy. Never taking it again, may need to be on another antibiotic because I don’t think my pneumonia has cleared."

For Acne "Beware. If you plan on going on a plane or boat, keep in mind your experience might be miserable. I was on a plane to California a couple of months ago and felt the need to get out of my seat countless times. Constant nausea and dizziness the whole time. Not fun. Other than that, it is a really effective drug."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Do not take this drug. Two months after completing a 1-week course, I have bad head pains, pressure in my skull, stinging eyes, liquid coming down my nostrils, severe tinnitus, pains in my side, balance problems. I was okay taking the drug, but 3 days after, I had severe electric shock-type pains down my right side and continue to deteriorate on a daily basis. I had an MRI scan which was clear. Can't sleep because of the pains, tinnitus. Awaiting blood results and nasal liquid results. Repeat, do not take this drug."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Very effective in treating perioral dermatitis. I had no side effects compared to minocycline, which gave me chronic migraines and vertigo. However, the dermatitis has returned again, and it's been 5 months since I finished a 3-month treatment. Very frustrating."
