"7 days on a dose of 200mg doxycycline first day and 100mg thereafter was absolutely a nightmare. Extreme fatigue and nausea, high anxiety and heart palpitations, low blood sugar probably stemming from difficulties eating and swallowing."

"The bad news is this my third bout of pneumonia. My other two bouts; which were exactly 10 years apart had me hospitalized. Now 10 years later, here I go again. The doctor, the nurse, and the pharmacist were adamant regarding what not to take with it and how to take it. I'm just starting out, and I'm on my second dose. I'll have to admit, I feel much better than I did two days ago. I've been taking mine with an ice cream sandwich bar. "

"I was told I had Atypical Pneumonia. After Azithromycin, it didn't completly clear up my lung. So the doctor prescribed broad spectrum - Doxycycline. This really upsets my stomach which I never experience with other antibiotics before. I had to take crackers before this medicine. Otherwise, I would throw up (did once when took with empty stomach). After 14 days, I didn't feel completely free of germ. 5 days after finished the last dose, I started with sore throat again."

"doxycycline 100mg 2x a day for 10 days for pneumonia. Plus prednisone 2x a day then once a day after 5 days. Plus albuterol nebulizer. I was not sure I was going to live. Have never been so sick. Took a little more than 7 days but worked. Side effects: a little nausea, aches. Gladly will take the side effects to live."

"I was diagnosed with Atypical pneumonia. They put me on Doxycycline, 1 pill twice a day, for nine days. I still haven't noticed a change. When I got to the tenth day, I took an amoxicillin pill that I had left over from before, and noticed a change within a few hours. Wish I had more!"

"I was diagnosed with Atypical pneumonia and was prescribed 100 mg twice a day. Has not been helping. Still has cough and chest pain plus fatigue. Another doc plus ER prescribed steroids prednisone 40 mg a day which works better but an instant weight gain of 10 pounds at least in a week. Feeling hopeless"

"Doxycyline worked well to help with my pneumonia. On the first day when I took it on an empty stomach I felt fine but as the next few days went by I had some intense nausea, a mean headache, severe stomach pain and I even vomited water back up along with mucus. I mean it works but I mean with some of the side effects it makes you wonder is it really worth taking this specific medicine. I would seriously recommend eating when you take this medicine."

"I had bacterial pneumonia and after four days of suffering, I was prescribed doxycycline 100mg twice daily. After two days the blocked and runny nose, coughing, and sneezing greatly reduced and I started to feel much better overall. I am getting better day by day. I have lost my sense of taste and smell which still hasn't come back. You need to finish the entire course, to get the full benefits even if you feel better. Do not take it on an empty stomach or immediately before eating as it could make you feel sick or vomit. Also do not immediately lie down after taking it."

"I was diagnosed with pneumonia 9 days ago. Started out on Azithromycin but was not feeling better after 4 days so doctor told me to finish that (only had 1 more pill) and then start Doxycycline 100mg 2x per day for 7 days. Started to feel better then got worse again. I have missed an entire week of work, today makes the 6th day I have missed. I am a substitute nurse at an elementary school so I don't get paid if I don't work. (I am on a long-term assignment working full-time right now). I haven't had pnuemonia in over 10 years. Never had a case this bad. Going back to the doctor today to get a chest x-ray. As a nurse, I am very diligent about washing my hands and using preventative measures to stay healthy. Most likely caught a bug at work."

"I am on my first day of using doxycycline and after the second dosage I started to feel the improvement of my bacterial pneumonia. Please, eat before taking the medication. Yes it will make you nauseous, yes it will give you headaches, the cons of taking a strong antibiotic. Drink a full glass (8oz) of water when you take it. Avoid dairy foods for about 3-4 after taking it. Also take a probiotic 4 hours later taking the doxy, you don't want it to kill off the good bacteria you have. And a MUST, FINISH THE COURSE. You can't expect it to work wonders right away."

"I was prescribed doxy for pneumonia and it has been 3 days and I'm starting to feel a lot better already. The only symptoms I've experienced is fatigue and a mild headache which I'm not sure is related to the doxy. Although I do get a little tired about 30 minutes after my doses and this lasts for the first 3-4 days it really does help so well. Symptoms are similar to the antibiotic keflex which is very tolerable but I've never had an upset stomach or nausea. I usually eat a little before taking my medication. It's advised not to eat foods with calcium/milk and to be sure and drink with at least 8 ounces of water. It works well for me! :)"

"Went to the ER 11 days ago, because of extreme weakness and shortness of breath. After a CT scan with contrast they told me I had pneumonia in both lungs. I thought great they can get this cleared up. My prescription was Doxycycline Hyclate 100 mg twice daily. During the day I had no problems taking it, I haven’t slept more than an hour to a hour and a half, straight for the last 10 nights. After 10 days I still have shortness of breath, my oxygen is only 86-90 on a pulse oximeter and still run a fever of over 101. Not sure what my options are now."

"I am taking doxycycline and a predi-pak but on the 3rd full day noticed my face (like a butterfly rash) and upper chest with redness and itching. My chest feels vibrating and slight heaviness ( more so since taking the meds, Or could be the Prednisone). I have called the doctor and left a message. I am drinking a lot of water and taking Vitamin C. I also took a Benedryl 25mg. I am awaiting my doctor to call back. Perhaps maybe it is the combination of the two--in my body's chemistry."

"I usually have a reaction with antibiotics but I can honestly say this antibiotic gave me the least side effects. I normally have side effects of severe nausea, burning stomach pains, extreme fatigue . I was very Ill when I started it and within 3 days I could feel it working. I am on day 4 now of it and I the difference I feel comparing to the first day is colossal. I would recommend this drug as very impressed with it"

"I've been taking Doxycycline for 4 days and am noticing a difference. I'm starting to feel like I'm healing. I still have no energy and I'm still sick, so I'm on constant bed rest. Yesterday, I started hearing voices and today I'm hearing musical instruments playing, but the TV isn't on and there's no music playing either. It's not scary because I know it's not real. This happened to me before about a year ago when I took Doxycycline for Interstitial Cystitis, and I was hearing people calling my name into my ear while I was laying in bed. Again, if it happens to you, as long as you tell yourself it's not real, then it really isn't a scary experience. I really think it's a side effect because it only happens when I take the Doxy."

"Seemed to work at first, but then about two weeks later (still taking it) I’m starting to feel the bubbling in my lungs again. On top of that I got weird blisters I never seen before in my entire life on my hand, my throat was so sore I could hardly swallow it stopped once I stopped taking the medication I took all except one. It does cause nausea which I remedied by eating a lot of food and drinking water back to back but after an hour after taking it, I would feel hot and dizzy and anxious and have a weird shortness of breathe like I forgot how to breathe. I’m just going to put this medication down as an allergy. Never taking again, may need to be on another antibiotic cause I don’t think my has pneumonia cleared."
