"8/28/17 went to ER with severe and unusual headache (with previous/current health issues) and wanted to rule out stroke (as I was diagnosed in 2013 with 'TIA,' a mini-stroke). After tests, a stroke was ruled out but told I had bronchitis. Hmm, never got an answer on how they came up with that conclusion and was given a RX for Doxycycl HYC 100MG (2X's a day for 10 day's). After the 1st day's dose, wow! The nausea, even more severe headache and body pain, etc... and the headache was even more severely pounding than when I first went into ER! 2 days into taking this stuff, this drug! I searched the web for info and found there's way too many severe and serious side effects for me that outweigh any possible benefits! So I'm done! I'm through with this drug too!"

"Took after 8 days of doxycycline for an unrelenting chest cough. Caused stomach pain, vomiting, throbbing head, and nausea. I finally checked my blood pressure, and it had spiked to 185/125, a hypertensive emergency that could cause stroke and organ damage. This is a terrible medication to prescribe!!"

"Have never taken this medicine before for bronchitis. Have had an upset stomach, diarrhea, body aches. Have taken with/without food and no difference in symptoms. Had no relief. I stopped taking and should have taken amoxicillin instead."

"Took entire 1-week cycle. It did nothing for my bronchitis symptoms. Lots of nausea, and I almost never get nauseous. Going back to the doctor to request a chest x-ray. Want to be sure I don't have pneumonia."

"I was prescribed doxycycline 100 mg, 2 a day for 10 days after struggling with a persistent cough that was going on for 2 months. Within 2 days, my cough was non-existent, and I finally had a full night of sleep. Then came the problems. On the 3rd day, I hadn’t eaten breakfast before taking my morning dose. I was sent home from work after vomiting it up. That night, I took it on a full stomach and had no problem. On the 5th day (today), it was really hot outside. Walking into work with jeans and a T-shirt, I felt like the UV rays were penetrating my clothes. After work, I got in the pool but couldn’t stand it after 30 minutes. My skin was burning so badly. Photosensitivity is a side effect, it seems. The 3rd strike was my throat starting to feel raw a few days ago, back around my tonsils and far back top of my mouth around sinuses and uvula. It is slightly red too. It isn’t a typical sore or swollen throat. It’s just raw and hurts. So I’m done with these antibiotics."

"The first day I took doxycycline, I had a rapid heartbeat and sweats, plus pulsing. I ignored it and took it again the 2nd day and got a swollen bottom lip and throbbing head, like a headache but worse. I find out I now have high blood pressure (BP) thanks to this medication and now have to go to the hospital tomorrow. I'd rather have a chest infection than now having to go on medication for high BP. How did this get put on the shelves??? Beware this medication, it does more harm than good."

"After 5 months of nightmare sinus issues, short of breath, burning in chest, back pain, sore throat, mouth infection, raspy voice... My reg doctor and ENT specialist, along with a lung specialist, could not help me! CT scan clear, x-ray clear?? I was taking antibiotics and no help... I knew I had inflammation in my bronchial tubes because prednisone would help me for a very short time. After reading about the possibility that I had a bacterial infection that no one was looking for... I read that doxycycline 100 was a great treatment for this! I had some in my home from a prior issue but never needed them! I took 2 per day, morning and night (200) for the first 3 days, then went down to one a day for another 5 days. After the 1st pill, I was feeling 50% better, and after day 3, 100% better!!!!! Side effects were awful: nausea, stomach pain, constipation, headache, short breath, chest pressure, sore throat, lol.... but it was all worth it!! Can’t wait to tell my doctors, thanks for nothing!!!!"

"Began taking 100 mg twice a day after a course of high-dose Augmentin didn't help in the slightest. I could feel this working after the 1st dose. I have zero side effects, except I feel like a new man, and I hope this continues."

"I took this while taking a very strong steroid, and the steroid gave me terrible anxiety during and after. I thought it was all over and had a few days left of the doxycycline, and honestly, I don’t know how anyone can stand taking that medication. It gave me a ton of anxiety during and after that I had at first attributed to the steroid. It also gave me a headache while it worked its way out of my system. I will, however, say that I got better, and I was the sickest I had ever been with acute sinusitis, acute bronchitis, and suspected Covid but with a negative test."

Doxycycline "Prescribed for persistent cough (8 weeks). Had little to no effect on cough, but a week after finishing the course, noticed development of very sore and sensitive fingernails, disappearance of cuticles, and slightly swollen round nails, very uncomfortable nail beds."

"I started taking this drug for upper respiratory cough, common cold, possibly bronchitis. Instead of taking two pills a day, I took one a day. Within a couple of days, I started cramps in my stomach, diarrhea, upset stomach, and my ears were ringing. One was enough, let alone all of these symptoms at one time. I stopped taking it, went back to the doctor. It's now three days since I stopped, and I still have diarrhea with stomach cramps off and on. And, of course, you feel tired just from the diarrhea constantly. This antibiotic should really be considered taking off the market. The drug is worse than your illness. I started to take it on February 10th, 2020."

"This was prescribed for severe bronchitis. I took it for about five days, and it really didn’t help the bronchitis, but it tore my stomach up. I felt like my stomach lining was on fire and burning up. I lived off of Roland’s chews for two weeks and couldn’t eat a thing for the same amount of time. I lost 15 lbs during that time. On that fifth day, I realized it might be the doxy, so I quit taking it and called the doctor to get something else for my bronchitis. I’m still suffering with bouts of stomach burning and pain."

"Was prescribed doxy 100mg twice a day for bronchitis. I had some mild nausea and reflux (I have gastritis), and I found it helped to take this with food and especially with yogurt. Do not lie down for at least an hour after taking it. I had a slightly upset tummy the first day or two, but I always take a probiotic with and after antibiotics (saccharomyces boulardi helped sort that out). I got quite a nasty rash taking doxy. I think it was a photo (sun) sensitivity rash as I only got it on areas that were exposed to the sun and got sunburned (my ankle and my chest). I ended up with raised itchy bumps and small blisters. By day 4, I realized doxy was not working for my bronchitis and was switched to cefuroxime for a few days, which finally cleared the infection. Although I didn't have a very bad reaction to it, I don't feel like it worked for my bronchitis, so that is why I am giving it a lower rating."

"Does nothing for me. I have been on it for 8 days - still have the same symptoms as when I went to the doctor. Wheezing, coughing, congested head, sinus drainage, etc. I wouldn't take this again - it's like the 7-day wonder pill they all prescribe - that doesn't work for bronchitis for me, and this useless medicine isn't going to cure my problem either. Waste of money. I don't get sick often - but when I do, I need the antibiotics that will help me get well - not the dosage of this junk I was prescribed."

"While I normally never have reactions to a new medication, this one I did. Half an hour after taking it, I had diarrhea and vomiting. Prescribed for bronchitis. 100 mg. The first dose was without food. I'll try the second dose with food and see how that goes."

"I get bronchitis at least 2x a year. Each time the temps begin to dip and when pollen is at its peak. The doctors normally prescribe a Z-Pak and a full course of steroids. This time, augmentin wasn't doing anything and the symptoms were only getting worse. I started doxycycline 100 mg x2 a day yesterday. I do feel hot, not feverish but more as in intolerant of temps above 65. At 65 and below, I actually feel fine. Doxycycline is a good drug, and every drug known to man has adverse effects in a minority of people. So far, the only issue is the hot sensation, but that could be because of the bronchitis itself and not the antibiotics. I have been miserable for 4 days, and after 2 doses, I do feel better. I use better loosely as being congested and not able to take an unlabored breath, to feeling hot, and able to breathe is improvement. I also take Betapace and have had no interaction."

"First time I took doxycycline, had horrible, severe anxiety, felt as if I was clawing up walls, stopped taking 3rd day. Recently was given doxycycline again for lung infection, I refused medication, shared with doctor, I'll take any alternative, I'm not taking doxycycline. Dr. states I had a very severe lung infection, I had no choice. After a long discussion, I gave the med a chance, I'm taking 100 mg, 2x daily for 5 days. To my surprise, on 4th day, I've had no side effects. Lung infection clearing up, I can breathe fully now, thank goodness. I am able to sleep, just feel a little tired, but manageable. I believe various med manufacturers make a difference in side effects. I had the same experience with Amox/Clav. Ask pharmacy, what pharmaceutical company, try different pharma company. Good luck to everyone."

"The first time I took one of these pills, I felt extremely nauseous. The next day when I took another dose, I threw up 20 minutes later. I was puking for a good half hour. I am never taking this again."
