"After have blotchy rosy cheeks for a couple months, I developed little white blisters in the blotchy areas. My dermatologist confirmed it was Rosacea and prescribed doxycycline hyclate. In about three days of the one-pill-a-day 100 mg dose, my rosacea completely cleared up. You shouldn't take it on an empty stomach. But it is fine after a meal or dinner."

"This did not cause any change in my rosacea whatsoever. I was started on 100 mg daily. After one month of no change, I contacted the dermatologist. They increased it to 2 times a day. I did that for about 1 week with no changes and finally said forget it. I'm not going to continue to take medication that doesn't work."

Oracea (doxycycline) "I used Oracea for severe rosacea. I experienced only mild improvements. I repeatedly got a skin infection around the eyes which was resolved with a topical anti-fungal. The infections alone are a reason to mark this medicine down."

Oracea (doxycycline) "I have tried low dose doxycycline and Periostat to treat ocular rosacea but both cause me to have a severe headache which does not go away. Only Oracea, unfortunately, with time-release doxycycline, keeps the dosage constant enough to avoid headaches. However, I no longer have pain and a feeling of "grittiness" in my eyes. Insurance covers some of cost (generic)"

"I’ve been on one 100mg tablet a day for a week now. I was diagnosed with rosacea and prescribed doxycycline. I had mild red bumps on my eyelids, and some on cheeks. After starting doxycycline, my whole face has worsened. I have never seen my face this bad ever. I was also given permethrin cream, 1 application on face per week. However, discontinued due to a face rash. I feel so unmotivated as my face has worsened quickly in couple of days with lots of itching. Will I eventually see improvement? I also feel lethargic, loss of appetite and had blurry vision only for 2 days. I hear the permethrin cream can make it worse before it gets better, and the doxy takes a while to work...so it needs to be taken for a couple of months to see how it goes. I probably need to use the permethrin weekly at night for the same length of time"

"For me 40mg doxycycline a day totally clears up my moderate to severe PPR. When I stop taking it of course, it returns after few weeks at same intensity. At least I know something works for this annoying chronic mess of a disease..."

"Prescribed for rosacea by a doctor. Cleared up my bumps a bit. I'd say 90% gone. Doctor said it was good for me and to continue. Did for a while (maybe 9 months) until my muscles hurt so bad I couldn't walk, cook, open bottles, etc. without help. I'd have to take painkillers and wait a good 30 minutes before I could get out of bed. Spent five days in the hospital. Doctors there said it was the medicine causing my severe pain."

Oracea (doxycycline) "Oracea has finally been the one thing that has cleared my Rosacea/Acne. After years of adult acne a dermatologist felt I had Rosacea as well. Oracea has subsided all the redness I was suffering and has cut down on the bumps and breakouts that were constant. My skin is not perfect but it is much improved thanks to Oracea. I will not go without it. Luckily, my insurance covers the cost of Oracea."

"Shocked to see people talking $200 for month’s treatment. Derm prescribed 6 week course and here in Canada I paid $22. Had 3 BBL (Broadband Light) treatments which removed a lot of redness, but still patches of red bumps that ebb and flare but never go away. I hope the antibiotic treatment will deal with them, then 2 more BBL treatments for remaining redness. I only got my prescription today. Pharmacist said although handout says on an empty stomach she would rather I take it with a little food if that will lessen any nausea. But not to take with calcium containing foods as that will lessen effectiveness. Between rules around fitting it around meals and not lying down for a while after taking it, it’s going to be an interesting few weeks :) And yes, avoid too much sun as it will make skin more photosensitive. Hope it works, hope I don’t have any issues - fingers crossed. But if it doesn’t my Derm says he has a few other tricks to try but they will be more expensive."

"I have been taking 20mg of doxycycline for 2 months now, one in the morning, one at bedtime. If anything, I think it has made me worse. I wake up to wash my face and it looks like I have a couple of welts on my cheeks. And the redness persists."

"I have been on Doxycycline for many months with amazing relief of my severe rosacea with ocular rosacea. In the past couple of weeks I have developed an itchy rash (hives) on my scalp which spread to my whole back until I had to stop using the antibiotic this morning. I am very upset because my rosacea symptoms were quite severe. I gather I have developed an allergy to this wonderful drug and am at my wits' end to know what to do. I guess I'll have to go back to my physician and hope that there's something else out there that I can take."

"Doxycycline does not work on Rosacea or Occular Rosacea. Does nothing. Just as bad as Metrogel. Dermatologists keep prescribing these things. The old Squibb Sumycin Tetracycline used to do wonders. Now, they won't prescribe it."

Oracea (doxycycline) "Started taking for acne. It helped a lot the first three weeks but the second I had my period it's like I might as well not even be taking the oracea because I see little to no difference. I get diarrhea and upset stomach in addition to taking this medication. For me, I'll probably need to take a stronger medicine."

"The reason I started this medication is because I have four bumps on my cheeks that's cause by my Rosacea & they won't go away, they will swell up and then turn pink for a while, it's just a cycle. I recently started this medication on Jan 4th. I haven't see any change or had any of the side effects many people have been complaining about. Maybe it's just too soon to say anything, it's 50mg but I have to take it twice a day on a full stomach NOT empty like many people do. I am also using metro gel so. I'm getting my monthly soon and I usually get little pimples. The bumps are getting lighter and a bit smaller but one of the bumps just swelled up and it's red and it looks like it has a bit of pus, so it sucks right now"

"Started taking 6 months ago and it appears to be doing an effective job of managing my rosacea. Still get an occasional outbreak, but not as noticeable. Unfortunately the cost is a killer, with insurance the annual cost is over $2,000. May need to find something else."

"I was prescribed Doxycycline (100mg per day) by my GP for acne rosacea, or papulopustular rosacea. I have tried other medications in the past both topical and oral without much success and so I decided to go to my doctor to request another referral to a dermatologist (waiting time is two months under the NHS) and he gave me Doxy til then. Only been taking it about a week so it's too early to comment on its effectiveness but I haven't experienced any adverse reactions to the drug (thank heavens!). I will keep you updated on my progress and/or regress on the drug. P.s. I only gave it 5/10 because I think at this point that that's a fair rating since it has neither improved nor worsened my symptoms and hasn't made me ill."

"This doxy really works after 2 weeks my skin was amazing. Then after my course finished 2 weeks later it came back with a vengeance. I got pustules where previously I had nothing I also developed tinnitus a loud buzzing which drove me mad, I lost all my energy, my joints hurt, I had vertigo for months afterwards. This is a quick fix to clear your skin but the rebound will destroy you. Better taking low dose isotretinion not antibiotics."
