"I don't drink or smoke, but when I was 27 I got chickenpox and shingles straight away, ending up off work. I was taken 2mg of diazepam three times a day, with spasms of not leaving the house, not eating, and wouldn't talk to anyone, ending up shouting at them. I couldn't sleep. The doctor prescribed diazepam, but as the years went on, they would refuse to give it and never listen. I'm 68 now, and doctors still have a problem. I have to buy diazepam off a person who takes alcohol and drugs."

Diazepam "I have spondylosis in my neck and have extreme pain on a number of occasions and ended up having to have an epidural. Muscle relaxants never helped. However, when I went to the ER one time, the doctor said that some people got relief with Valium, and he gave me a prescription. It is sometimes hard to get a doc to prescribe it since it is a benzodiazepine, and most docs are really bureaucrats these days. However, it works really well for me, and nothing else I've tried works that well. It doesn't take much, and I don't have to use it very often, but I am grateful to have a doctor who listens to me and will prescribe it. I haven't had to have an epidural since I started using it four years ago."

"I'm 51 now. At 14, an auto accident tore everything that could be torn, except my spinal cord. Thank you, Lord. I did everything I was told to do, from physical therapy to watching my diet, watching what I pick up, how I pick it up, my whole life now, and I just found out that Valium helps with spasms. My spasms are so debilitating, every breath I inhale, I black out. Only to find out if we go by their rules, I am an addict. What happened to 'we hire the doctor?' Lord forbid you go to the E.R. to refill whatever you need. Now you're a drug seeker!"

"This medication (diazepam) has given me back a much better quality of life. I suffer from MS, and the severe, painful spasms it causes are crippling. 10 mg of diazepam 2-3 times daily benefits me and enables me to do physical therapy. It brings my pain level down, decreases the frequency and severity of muscle spasms. I've tried baclofen, Robaxin, Flexeril, etc. Nothing helps like the Valium. I can see how it's addicting and has abuse potential, but for me, the benefits outweigh the risks. I've been using diazepam for approx. 10 years now and don't plan on stopping because literally nothing else works!"

"I have painful back spasms. Doctor won't prescribe diazepam. When I get a spasm, I can't walk. Can't get to the phone or loo. But as they are addictive, I can't get them until I throw myself down the stairs in spasm, get found a week later, and wake in the hospital. How can I make it with a chemistry set or just get the doctor to prescribe!!!!!"

"It's been a very beneficial medication for me for over a decade. MS (multiple sclerosis) causes very painful and frequent spasms in my legs. Diazepam helps calm the spasms as well as makes them less painful. I use 10 mg tablets anywhere from 2-4 times daily. The occasional drowsiness isn't ever too much to handle. Diazepam also helps with my agoraphobia and really has given my quality of life back."

"My sciatica was getting unbearable. Burning, crushing pain from the buttocks to the foot. I also suffer from anxiety. My new psychiatrist put me on Valium rather than Xanax, telling me that it would also help the sciatic nerve pain. She was absolutely right. Dramatic reduction in pain. Thank goodness there is still some intelligence in the medical field. Opiates are out of the question for me. Naproxen is all I'll take. I don’t need to be addicted to opiates on top of everything else I have going on."

"I was riding a Segway last weekend and unfortunately crashed and burned. Fell on my right side. Right now pretty black and blue. Had a lot of high-intensity muscle spasms, including the entire upper right back area radiating around to the upper chest and abdomen. Each lasted several seconds. Doctor prescribed 5 mg diazepam tabs, up to 8 per day. Only needed four a day to start, and spasms showed remarkable improvement within two days. Still have some at night when reclining or turning, but I believe this will subside within a week instead of weeks. The doctor sure knew what he was doing."

"I suffer with chronic back spasms every now and again, and the only thing that works is diazepam. Straight away. It is so hard to get my GP to prescribe it, even though I may only ask for it 3 to 4 times a year. They say I'll be addicted! How can 21 tablets (5 mg) a year get me addicted? It's disgusting, they would happily prescribe a long-term antidepressant that helps, though - of course, as they get more money. Well, no, I keep fighting my right to have diazepam when my back spasms, as it works effectively. My GP can't play god with this...surely I have a right in what I get if it works."

"I am on diazepam to treat Stiff Person's Syndrome and related anxiety symptoms: fear of heights, open spaces. Anxiety, stress, and loneliness are increasing, though muscle spasms and stiffening attacks no longer occur."

"I have Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. After having a shoulder surgery go bad, I have been put on many different muscle relaxants. Diazepam is the only one that has worked for me. It also takes care of my anxiety. I take 2.5 mg 2-3 times a day or as needed. Works great. I have been on it for about 8 months. I'm doing the best yet."

"I've had myofascial pain syndrome for about 15 years now. I've been on loads of different things: ibuprofen, co-codamol, co-dydramol, gabapentin, amitriptyline, duloxetine, and finally tramadol, which I still take. My pain is always present, but I can deal with it about 50% of the time when it's in the background; the other 50%, I take a low dose of 37.5 mg tramadol mixed with paracetamol. Now, sometimes I get really bad episodes with muscle spasms. I have had extreme pain for days or even weeks. The only thing that will help me, in this case, is diazepam (I found this out when it was prescribed to me a couple of times after going to the hospital with unbearable pain). I can't get it through my GP, so now I need to get it in a different way. If I don't, the muscle tension and pain will get worse and worse. I love diazepam because it's the only thing that can stop the pain cycle after I take it a few days in a row. Something like this only happens about 3 or 4 weeks per year, so I'm not addicted."

"Prescribed 10 mg for severe muscle spasms. Spasms stopped immediately but were accompanied by constant sleeping and drowsiness. Stopped after 3 days so I could function like a normal human being again. Switched to OTC remedies, which are a more tolerable option."

"I have had chronic pain for 12 years, have regular steroid injections in my spine and Botox in the large spinal muscles. I take pregabalin 3 times a day and baclofen at night. I used to use diazepam quite regularly for muscle spasms before getting these drugs, I recently missed a few pregabalin and needed my diazepam. You still feel the pain of the spasm, but the drug makes you less tense, so you don't exacerbate the problem. It enables me to start moving around gently and get back to normal quicker."

"I am prescribed diazepam long term for chronic muscle spasms in my neck and shoulders. Without diazepam, my muscles are completely rigid, and any movement causes crepitus and loud cracking. Diazepam does not relieve the nerve pain of my condition, and people should be aware of this. It may take pressure off the nerves through reduced tension but will not treat nerve pain. I rate this medicine highly for what it does, it's a muscle relaxant, not a pain reliever, and it does what it says. However, and this is the downpoint, tolerance develops very quickly on this medication. So much so that after just a few weeks, the only relief in consumption is relieving withdrawal. This is why many people ask to be prescribed higher and higher doses of benzodiazepines. I refuse to take any more than 5 mg a day. When I build up a tolerance, I go cold turkey for 8 weeks, and I'm prescribed an alternative, baclofen. I switch between the two medicines to prevent tolerance and increasing dosage."

"First time using Diazepam 5mg for anxiety and muscle spasms in the cervical spine that cause migraine. I am on hydrocodone post op for pain and was afraid to mix the two drugs. However, I did take one at the onset of a migraine and it did seem to help relax the muscles in my neck. I recently had a migraine that I could not break and took a 2nd 5mg tablet. Is there anyone that takes 10mg dose of this drug? Recent cervical fusion has the cervical spine and traps in knots constantly and the cyclobenzaprine was doing nothing. I am grateful to have a doctor who prescribes this, just not sure if it works on an as needed basis. Also have PTSD and osteoarthritis of the spine. Have not noticed any side effects."

"I had surgery on my back in my lower lumbar for stoniness. I am on Valium and hydrocodone/acetaminophen, and the medicines seem to work during the day, but when I get up in the morning, I can't feel my legs. I then take the medicines, and about 30 minutes later, I'm okay. I still have the pain in the day, but not as bad. I am also having erectile dysfunction. I hope this will go away after the healing of the back."

Diazepam "I have a chronic muscle spasm in my right shoulder area after a surgery, followed by a car accident years later. Valium is the only medication that I find relieves the pain. I don’t find Endone or that family helpful at all."

"Since 1983, I've had nerve damage in my left leg. Then, I've had failed back surgery, DDD (Degenerative Disc Disease), 3 discs in neck out of whack, CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia), fibromyalgia, RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome) 24/7, tinnitus, peripheral neuropathy, and my doctors have tried so many medications to relieve the pain. I take morphine for the RLS after becoming immune to all other meds, and my PCP (Primary Care Physician) prescribed Diazepam for the muscle spasms in my legs and feet. For the past year, I have finally been able to receive relief. But the pain doctor made me quit taking the Diazepam. I had no side effects from it, but the relief was great for those 2 years."

"Have taken this medicine intermittently, 2.5 to 5 mg 1-2 times a day for years. Works rapidly, no side effects, also reduces anxiety, unease, and discomfort, and importantly, when my systolic BP is high (160), it makes my beta blocker (atenolol) work more effectively. There seems to be a synergistic effect between the two."

Diazepam "I had a Cavernous Malformation which led to a stroke at age eight in 2002. The doctors put me on Baclofen right away to combat the muscle spasms I have in my right arm and right foot. Over the 20+ years, I have added to Baclofen by taking Tizanidine and Robaxin, and it's still tight! In 2020, my dad passed away and I was dealing with some major depression and anxiety. My doctor prescribed 5 mg of Valium, and it helped with my anxiety right away. About a week after, I started noticing my right arm was unusually loose, and that was all she wrote! Thank you, Valium, for showing me that something can work for muscle spasms and work well!"

"I was having a severe muscle spasm in my neck and was prescribed diazepam and prednisone. The diazepam was 10 mg 2x a day. I had never taken it before. It helped a bit, but mostly made me feel like a zombie. I also didn’t feel like I had restful sleep - more like forced sleep that I didn’t feel well rested from. After taking 10 mg 2x, I stopped. The prednisone seems to be helping more by reducing inflammation."

"I've had severe sciatica pain for 8 years. I take Norco, Skelaxin, and Mobic daily for relief. But when the pain gets worse, I usually take 5 mg Valium, and it works to ease the pain. I recommend it to take only as needed because it can be a very dangerous drug."

"I have been dealing with headaches for years. Primarily on my right side. The pain originates in the bottom of my trapezius muscle in my mid-back and then travels up my back, out into the upper trapezius, the base of my skull, and then snakes around my ear and jaw and settles around my right eye. I’ve been working with a physical therapist for about 7 months now, and while it has been helpful, I still get these headaches. When they’re bad, I’ll spend the whole day in bed, nauseous, sleeping, with a heat source. Ibuprofen rarely helps the severe ones. Stretching, working on my posture, increasing thoracic spinal mobility, pectoral stretches, and lying on an acupressure mat have been the most effective. My doctor recently prescribed Valium for me to try, as a muscle relaxant for these headaches. Today is the second time I’m trying it and find it incredibly helpful. 5 mg when I feel the headache coming on, maybe once a month or so."

"Diazepam TEVA 10 mg. My pharmacy switched to this brand, and I had to take three pills, and I still have done nothing to help me sleep. I find TEVA diazepam to be garbage. 1-2 hours later, up until 1:00-2 hours later, third pill up until 4:00 AM. First time using since pharmacy switched from the other brand. TEVA = GARBAGE and NO SLEEP"
