For Anorexia "I have never been diagnosed with anorexia, but I have always been skinny. I have always had a high metabolism. My doctor prescribed me this medicine, cyproheptadine, and it has increased my appetite so much. I'm constantly eating, and I finish every meal! I'm craving food all the time, and I have gained 6 pounds! I was 88 pounds before I started taking my medicine, and my doctor is so happy to know I have gained weight. I totally recommend this medicine 100%."

Cyproheptadine for Migraine "My 4-year-old was diagnosed with migraines (3-4 per month with vomiting and other symptoms). Given Periactin. Has had quite an increase in appetite and thus weight gain. It's difficult as a parent to balance the weight gain and social issues with that. Will try going off Periactin in summer per neurologist. Hopefully, the migraines will stay away, and she will be able to lose some of the weight."

"I've been small my entire life. I only gained weight during my pregnancy in 2011, when I was like 170 lbs, and after giving birth, I was back down to 110. It took no time. I ate food thinking I would keep some of the weight. However, that didn't work out. Now I'm 28, going on 29 in 2 1/2 months, and my weight is a big thing to me. I'm the smallest out of all my friends and family, and it bothers me. I went to the doctor on 10/23/2018 and asked if I could be prescribed anything to help me gain weight and give me a better appetite, and this is a miracle. I got my prescription filled the exact same day, weighing 110 lbs, and today is 11/2/2018, and I weigh 117.8 lbs. I can tell the weight gain by the way my clothes snug a little bit more, and I'm happy. Next week, I start working out to stay in shape while taking these pills."

"This cyproheptadine medication is great for my cyclic vomiting syndrome! It keeps me from being nauseous all the time. It does, however, cause me to gain more weight than I'd like (I gained 20 pounds while on this med), and I get pretty bad acid reflux sometimes as well. It definitely beats going to the emergency room twice a month, though."

Cyproheptadine for Allergic Reactions "Started this medicine 2 days ago. Slept for 14 hours straight. Hunger just kicked in, and I ate a huge sandwich and drink, and I'm still hungry. Changed dose to 1/2 of 4 mgs and got up this morning normally. I intend to build up slowly because of the sleepiness side effects. I intend to stay on this due to my fast metabolism and stress to get back to normal. I think it is working!"

For Migraine "My 7-year-old son has had these severe headaches, now believed to be migraines, since he was 3. With time, the headaches have become almost daily. One month to the day, my son has had only 1 headache! He has gained weight, though, which for him was okay because he was so, so skinny."

For Migraine "Prescribed this for my four-year-old's presumed migraines (vomiting, light sensitivity). MRI revealed a Chiari malformation. It has helped tremendously. He still suffers an occasional headache, but they are fewer and farther between. The increased appetite has been a blessing. He was losing a lot of weight due to another condition and has since stabilized."

For Anorexia "My son has been taking this medication to help gain weight. It has helped his appetite and seemed to help with his morning sneezing, also. We give him a teaspoon in the evening, and he is hungry before bed and eats more in the morning now."

For Anorexia "Please only use this through prescription. The ingredients found in GML-Apeti and Apetamin are not the same as the prescription. I tried all three and honestly, the prescription works way better with fewer side effects. GML has other things added, the prescription is just strictly cyproheptadine. Be careful out here."

Cyproheptadine for Migraine "I was pregnant, I had to stop taking Relpax (at 2 x a month) for migraines, and I made notes and found I had horrible pain 20 out of 30 days in the month. For 2 months, I suffered, and my OB referred me to my neuro, who referred me to my OB, and no one would help me. A new neuro put me on Periactin 4 mg once a day. I started it on - I think day 2 of what usually is a 3-day migraine, and it stopped. I had only a faint sensation of a headache."

For Anorexia "This is not my experience, but from my learning on pharmacology. If someone takes Periactin for a long time, it causes psychosis and damage to the liver. So, before taking Periactin for a long time, consult your doctor."

For Anorexia "I'm not anorexic, but I'm a really small woman right now and cannot gain weight at all. I have a nutritionist, and still no difference, so I went to my Dr. on 10/8/19, and so far my appetite has picked up over 50%. I'm eating more off my plates and snacking a lot more than usual. I see where people are starting off taking whole pills right away, but my Dr. told me a half a pill (4 mg) 4 times a day for 21 days, then 2 whole pills 4 times a day. I was at 100 lb, but I haven't weighed myself but will at my next appointment. I see my nutritionist on 10/26/19, and I'll get weighed in. I'll check back in then, but if no change, then I'll check in in 2 months when I see my PCP for a check-up, and the best thing about it is my Medicaid pays for it. I'm also hypothyroid, so you'd think I'd gain weight alone. I have severe allergies living in Oklahoma, lol, and take allergy medicine with inhalers as well every day, and if this also helps with allergies, then I can kill 2 birds with one stone and stop the inhalers and montelukast."

For Allergic Reactions "This medication works wonders if you are looking to gain weight. I personally take these for allergies but have noticed weight change within 2 weeks of using it. I was 180 and gained 5 pounds, and I'm 5'9. Not too stoked on gaining weight, but I'm not disappointed either, would definitely recommend if you suffer from loss of appetite or other medical conditions."

For Anorexia "I've always been skinny but not to a point where people would point it out or say I need to gain weight. I tried taking this because sometimes I'll lose my appetite and I can go days without feeling hungry. I took half a 4 mg at night before bed and I couldn't get out! I slept from 10 PM all the way to 1:30 in the afternoon and I was still tired! It makes your bones feel like jelly. It does help you gain weight, but when I took it, all the weight just went to my stomach. So now I'm just forcing myself to eat more and I hit the gym 5 times a week for weight lifting, and I look better than when I used this pill to gain weight. If you want to put on healthy weight, aka muscle, this isn't the pill to try-16 lbs of muscle = 1 year to put on."

For Anorexia "Took Periactin once a day, as it made me very drowsy and heavy-headed. Although my appetite picked up a lot and over a year I put on about 10 kgs, which I wanted, it was the worst decision to take these tablets as it caused severe dryness in my eyes. This has led to terrible eye pain day and night. Sadly, I didn't make the link between the tablets and the pain until too late, but I have now stopped taking them. They probably work for some without side effects, but not for me, unfortunately."

For Anorexia "I've always struggled with my weight. I'm 30 years old with 2 boys, and my weight rocketed with both pregnancies and went right back down again. lol I've tried quite a few things, but nothing really helped. I do remember going to a Chinese herbal store 3 years ago and was given a powder mixture to mix with water and drink twice a day. It works, but I'm not good with drinking large quantities. Fast forward to today. I'm currently 5'6, weighing 153 lbs. I hate seeing what I see in the mirror: skinny arms, collarbone poking out, my breasts are literally nonexistent. It's sad! So, I went to my GP on 3/1/2019 and asked for Periactin. She was happy to prescribe it to me. It's been two days I've been taking these now, I take 3 a day, and they make me so hungry. I've also noticed I haven't been getting the sleepiness or headaches some say they have experienced within the first 3 days of taking them. I will be back to update after a week or 2 to see if I've gained any weight since."

For Anorexia "This is the 2nd time I'm sharing this experience! I think first it didn't work on me! Still, I continued using it! I was a lazy person earlier, but now I've started working in the office, and I walk about 3 km every day! It's been 1 week since I started working and walking. My appetite is the same, but, but, but I gained 3 kg in a week, and I'm gaining! I weigh every day, and the weight is always increasing! I am 51 kg now, hope I'll reach 60 soon. I'm 5 feet 8 inches tall!"

For Migraine "My doctor swapped me onto this medicine because I was getting married and hoping to have a more 'baby-friendly' medicine in case I got pregnant in the near future. On cyproheptadine, I felt like the medicine took some of the edge off my chronic migraines. The intensity lessened, but I saw no significant change in migraine frequency. I was taking 12 mg per day. But oh, the side effects! First, I felt this perpetual restless agitation. Second, I was hungry absolutely all the time. I have a great deal of self-control and was able to keep things at bay for a while, but my weight kept creeping up. In 6 months, I gained 15 lbs (my normal, very stable weight is 120 lbs, so this was a lot for me). Eventually, I decided this one wasn't for me."

For Migraine "It got prescribed this when I started getting horrible headaches almost daily. I was told to take it two times daily, once in the morning and once at night. It gave me more headaches, at least an aura without pain. I had increased blind spots in my vision, as well as it made me extremely tired. Stopped taking it."

For Anorexia "I tried this on a whim, after reading a lot of reviews. I was a little nervous, as my doctors have never heard of it. Still, I took the chance because I was desperate, and I've gained 15 pounds in 3 weeks! I'm still in shock. My stomach somehow turned into a bottomless pit. I will say though, I kept falling asleep for the first 3 days. Like, deeeeeep sleep. And I had the worst headaches of my life. BUT, it subsided after about 3 days. I still get a little drowsy and disoriented at times, but I don't take it as often now. I started with 3 doses of 4 mg/day, and now I take it once before bed."

For Anorexia "I've been using it for 4 months and I've gained so much. It's nice to have this nice body. Everyone I meet keeps praising how great I look... It boosts your appetite and makes you feel hungry and sleepy in the first week, but after that, it's a smooth ride. At times when I'm broke, I take half a pill and it still does the magic. Thank you, cyproheptadine, for changing my physique ☺️"

"I struggled with weight gain a few years back. I started using this pill to add some weight. It made me sleepy for 2-3 days, but the weight I added on was absolutely magnificent. I stopped using them for a while, but now I am back on them. Great stuff! If you want to gain weight, take this pill. I take mine once a day, at night only."

For Anorexia "This is the only thing that has worked for my poor appetite! I've always struggled with having little to no appetite and feeling like I was 'too thin.' I've been taking these pills for months now, and I can honestly say that I went from 99 lbs to 130 lbs. I look extremely healthy and happier. It has some cons too. Your body will start to get used to it, and you will most likely lose weight and your appetite if you discontinue it. It also makes you extremely tired, so take it before bed or on your days off."

For Failure to Thrive "The good: My 2-year-old takes this medication. He’s also on a feeding tube due to unknown feeding issues, aspiration, choking, underweight, and low hunger, as well as vomiting. His neurologist put him on it, hoping the vomiting was linked to his headaches (he has Chiari malformation that we got surgically fixed 6 months ago). Since he’s been on this med, I have been able to take him off 2 of his 5 feeding tube feeds because he will actually drink a thickened bottle. Plus, he has been more successful at eating his solid foods and choking and regurgitating his foods much less. I’m not sure what part of the meds did that, but I’m thankful! No more puking and no more headaches. The bad: He sleeps a lot, at 2, that’s fine. It wasn’t okay for my older kid who was also on it."

For Migraine "I was getting migraines, and I could not find anything to control them. My allergist recommended this drug. It has been a lifesaver! Yes, I have read what other people have said about it, but I would make a suggestion - as my doctor told me. It does make you sleepy - so you take it only at night before you go to bed. I wake up fully refreshed. I have been taking this medicine for over two years and have gained no weight. If you suffer from migraines, I highly suggest you try this. I might have had 1 migraine attack in the past year. I would say that it works very well."
