"Just started taking this as I have been suffering with terrible sickness during my pregnancy. I would vomit every time I ate and became very dehydrated. I was totally exhausted and also looking after a toddler! My doctor prescribed this along with rehydration sachets, and within 30 minutes I felt so much better, and after an hour was able to eat a sandwich and keep it down, which was just such a huge relief after not being able to stomach more than 2 or 3 bites of food! This drug has helped enormously and means I can get on with my normal life!"

"Cyclizine stopped the sickness, but the side effects were horrendous. The first made me feel lightheaded and drowsy. The second made me agitated and stopped me from sleeping. It also gave me palpitations and a sense of dread. Awful medication, I will never take it again. Disappointed the doctor prescribed it, I really wish I hadn't had them."

"Was given this drug as anti-sickness medication during a stay in the hospital when suffering from severe tonsillitis. Immediately, I started seeing weird shapes appear as I looked around, and my heart rate increased rapidly as I felt very confused and overwhelmed. I screamed out for the doctor, as I thought I was about to die. It felt like I was tripping on psychedelic drugs, but so, so much worse. I was given oxygen and my legs raised to calm down, and I was fine within 30 minutes. I have never had an adverse reaction like this to medication before in my life, and the experience was very scary for me."

"Given this cyclizine by IV after feeling sick on metronidazole from a blood infection from piercing. Within seconds, I nearly passed out, I was shaking uncontrollably all over, teeth chattering, eyes closed, convulsions, etc. Thought I was going to die. Told of the adverse reaction to cyclizine, second that day apparently, so obviously quite common."

"I’ve been prescribed 50 mg cyclizine due to feeling nauseated every day without an explanation. The first day I had noticeable side effects, with the first dose in the afternoon making me tired and my eyes blurred often. The second dose at night made me extremely agitated, and my legs kept involuntarily jolting me awake. But from the day and since then I’ve been taking it for a week and haven’t had any more side effects. In addition, my nausea has completely gone."

"I took these cyclizine when I had been feeling sick for around 7 days and haven’t eaten. I lost so much weight, and my doctor gave me these. The first time taking them, I didn’t feel sick, but I was so sleepy and managed to sleep the whole day. I also had weird dreams and woke up seeing shapes around the room. I’m on the 6th day of taking them, and I still get spells of feeling like I’m going to throw up. I also get constipated or lose bowels :( not pleasant."

"Given this due to nausea I experienced for a few months, and it was far from helpful personally. First dose I took, felt heavy with a stomachache and a headache. Extreme tiredness too, alongside feeling emotionally dead. I don't see many with this experience on here, but this was mine. Then for the second dose hours later, unimaginable distress and nervousness. I could not stop it no matter what I did, the worst feeling. Felt so exhausted but then had insomnia and could not sleep whatsoever. The shaking was the most concerning to me, as it was shaking muscles all throughout my body uncontrollably. Very scary experience with this medication, the anxiety being unbearable is the worst symptom I have ever experienced from any medication in my life. Every negative thought at the front of my head made me on edge to a point that was so extreme, and I could do nothing to prevent or control it. I was only 16 years old, so this was an eye-opening experience for me with cyclizine."

"Following surgery, I was administered cyclizine IV for nausea and had an immediate adverse reaction. My whole body was shaking, my teeth were chattering uncontrollably, I was losing sensation in my hands and feet, and felt like I was falling into blackness. I had tightening in my chest and chest pains with an increased heart rate. For 1 1/2 hours after it was administered, I was unable to pass urine, although I was absolutely desperate. My heart rate remained higher than usual for the following 8 to 10 hours, and I was unable to sleep also. I have now noted this drug with my GP and will take extra caution next time. My nurses told me I was having a panic attack as I probably wanted to pass urine after my surgery. This was far worse."

"I'm emetophobic (fear of vomiting) and have these pills for any times I get sick or feel really nauseous. They do get rid of the nausea, but they come with a lot of side effects. They make me incredibly drowsy, to the point where I have to sleep. If I fight it, I get this 'high' feeling where I'm disoriented and not fully aware of the passage of time or what's going on around me. I get super dizzy and feel all floaty and strange. The weirdest symptom is every time someone speaks or I hear a loud noise, it feels like my brain has fallen out of my skull or like I've just dropped several feet. They do work to get me to sleep, but if I wake after a few hours, I can still feel the confusion and dizziness side effects."

"Have taken cyclizine pretty much consistently for 2 years now for nausea and vomiting caused by gastro issues. 50 mg/1 tab x2 daily, and it really helps with my nausea. Takes about an hour and a half to kick in for me, which is slightly frustrating, but once it does, I get 5-9 hours relief. When I don’t take it, I feel exhausted and generally tired. Think I may have developed an addiction from long-term use. Will speak to GP. Please don’t let this worry you, though, I’ve taken it at least once daily for 750+ days now. It isn’t recommended for long-term use (6m+), but it really does work for me, so I’m reluctant to change it."

"Given this medication after general anesthesia caused vomiting. I threw up about 5 times in a short period of time after waking up; potentially from the anesthesia itself, or due to swallowing blood from my wisdom teeth being removed. As soon as they gave this medication via IV, I started to feel a lot better and didn’t throw up again. Over the course of the next 30-60 minutes, I still felt a little nauseous, but I was able to keep down food and water with no further vomiting. After 1-2 hours, the nausea had completely gone. No side effects other than the IV burning a little bit during the infusion and some pain in the vein the next day, but it wasn’t really that noticeable and definitely wouldn’t stop me from requesting this again in advance if I need another general anesthesia. Very grateful for this medication as it allowed me to meet all of the hospital’s requirements to go home the same day instead of staying at the hospital overnight."

"I was prescribed cyclizine when eight weeks pregnant after two weeks of very bad morning sickness, where I reached the point that I couldn’t keep anything down. I was worried to take it, but it has been very helpful. It kicked in very quickly, for the next few days, I was still sick on odd occasions, but not nearly as much, and after taking it for a week, my diet was almost back to what I was eating pre-pregnancy. I still felt a degree of nausea, but not to the debilitating degree I had before. As described in the instructions, I felt dizzy, my eyes went a bit funny at points, but not for long, and I was just so glad to feel less sick. I am ten weeks now and still suffer occasional bouts of sickness, once every few days, but not nearly as badly."

"I have morning sickness, vomiting (pregnancy), etc. My doctor gave me this medication. It works straight away, but I had side effects. I had a dry mouth and had to drink a lot of mineral water. I had constipation. After I took the tablet, my body was shaking, I felt cold, and I couldn't concentrate on anything. I felt weak for the first hour. I felt better later, and my stomach didn't upset me anymore. I noticed that 50 mg was too big a dose for me, and I was taking just half of the tablet. It didn't last long, but I had less of the side effects. Overall, it was a big help, and this medicine helped me a lot and stopped me from feeling bad and vomiting. I am not sure it is safe for my baby, but it helped me stay alive during the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy."

"To cut a long story short, I got septic from a failed appendicitis operation as a teenager. On morphine to help with the pain, I got the sickness and spent some time on another antiemetic. This stopped working eventually, so I was given a cyclizine injection. I vividly remember my leg going into convulsions, watching the fear in my mum's face as she stood by, then my whole body shaking uncontrollably with sweats. I passed out soon after, woke up with no idea how much time had passed but was told I was allergic to it. Horrible reaction to a horrible drug."

"During my recent hospital stay where every day I would wake up extremely nauseated, and come 6 PM I’d again feel very, very sick, preventing me from eating. A 2 mg IV injection to my cannula would help almost immediately, preventing me from feeling like I would throw up, and the effect would last a good 5 hours or so."

"I went into the hospital about 3 years ago because I was having bad sickness from a molar pregnancy. I had this drug, cyclizine, intravenously. Within seconds, my vein had gotten swollen where the drug went in, and the rest of my veins went very dark blue. My whole body went red, and I started fitting and throwing up lumps that looked like half-cut peanuts. My heart rate went sky-high, and I was rushed up to the emergency room. I had 3 fits one after the other. My eyesight afterward was very blurry for 30 minutes, and I had to have a doctor come into my room every hour to go over my speech because I wasn't able to talk, it was just mumbles. Ever since I had this drug, I now have ongoing fits, they happen when I get stressed, but sometimes they can happen even if I'm not. It's still an ongoing investigation on how to get them to stop. I've been seeing doctors and neurologists, but there's still not a lot that they can do."

"I am 7 weeks pregnant and have been experiencing nausea and vomiting all day and night for the last couple of weeks. I finally spoke to the GP and started on cyclizine up to 3 times a day. The nausea decreased straight away, and I’ve managed to actually keep food and drink down. The only drawback is it makes me incredibly tired, which causes issues with getting to work and actually staying awake while there!"

"Was having persistent nausea and vomiting due to a virus. Was given this drug, and it did work nice after about an hour, I could finally sleep for a little bit. However, it doesn't work for very long (only about 2-3 hours) and came with side effects, like shakiness and restlessness later on in the day (at least my doctor told me this medicine was to blame for that)."

"I have used this cyclizine a few times. The first time was in the hospital during a bout of Clostridium difficile, it really worked and took the nausea away. I have since had gastro problems and have been using this again, it works after an hour or so and tends to last a few hours. This time around, I have experienced a few side effects: constipated in the evening and I had vision problems too. I will be speaking to my doctor to see what he says."

"Last year I was staying at the hospital and was given cyclizine through an IV injection, they said it would take 15-30 minutes to feel any effects, but from the moment I felt the cold liquid going in my arm, I felt weird. I began speaking absolute nonsense, it was a lot of fun, and all the hospital staff got a good laugh out of it. By the time it had worn off, I already wanted it again. I struggled to sleep and was sweating profusely from the withdrawal. The next morning, I asked the nurse for it again, but this time it was different. I looked at my hands and watched as they suddenly became very pale, and you could see every single vein in my hand. I was shaking, having palpitations, my teeth were clattering, and I kept feeling like I was constantly falling out of consciousness and then suddenly being brought back to life. It was terrifying. The nurse sat by my side and was just as worried. He tried comforting me but was also scared I was having an allergic reaction to it. Never again."

"I have a condition called Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome (CVS) and am often hospitalized due to persistent vomiting. Having cyclizine injected through the cannula into the vein is the only thing that helps. It does make me feel very drowsy and sometimes gives heart palpitations in injection form, however, this is a welcome break at the time. I find the medication very useful, and the tablets work reasonably well too for preventing the feeling of nausea."

"I was prescribed 50 mg cyclizine tablets at 7 weeks pregnant because I couldn’t keep anything down, and I was severely dehydrated. A week into taking them, I’d say I’ve gone from being sick 15 times a day to 3 or 4 times a week. They’ve really worked for me, but they give me an awful stomach ache."

"Was prescribed this to counteract nausea from another medication. The first day I took it, I felt so “high” and awfully drowsy, could do nothing but sleep. Every time I take it, I normally get that same “high” feeling along with trembling and drowsiness. I kept taking it because it was fixing the nausea, and I could go to sleep straight away. 5 months later, for whatever reason, I experienced much different side effects. Struggling to breathe, throat felt like it was closing slightly, stomach pains, headache, hot chest, nervousness, irritated sinuses, and sweats. Definitely would not be taking again despite the fact it’s helped me for so long!"

"I have had a lot of health problems and have spent quite a lot of time in the hospital. When I have cyclizine via IV, I literally float off the bed, the sickness goes straight away. I have the tablets at home and no nice, floaty feeling, but they do the trick!"
