"Hi. I was addicted to heroin for two years using about a gram a day. It ruined my life. It all started with the prescription pain narcotics. Then went to heroin because of price. People, it's true. They will tell you pills lead to harder drugs. My whole family told me that and I always said I'd never do that. Well, I did. I started by snorting heroin, then to injections. I lost all my stuff to pawn shops. Even robbed and stole. People, if you are reading this as a current user, please don't think you are stronger than others because the drug already controls you. Clonidine helped me greatly along with Suboxone strips. People, get Suboxone for withdrawal, it will save you. I was prescribed clonidine and Suboxone and didn't feel a thing."

"I found clonidine to be the best thing ever for the withdrawal symptoms. For me, it took all the withdrawal symptoms away. It took about 7 days, and I was feeling very good. I was able to sleep the whole 7 days; I was able to eat. To me, that was just unbelievable - anyone who has been through an opiate withdrawal, you know what I mean. Try it; you won't be sorry you did."

"I was on methadone for 35 years with 80 milligrams and 0.03 Catapres got me through. My last dose of methadone was on 9/17/14, and that was a year ago. I thank God and Catapres. It is a year later, and I still take them. I highly recommend them 100 percent!"

"I started taking viks for migraine purposes & ended up taking 20 a day (1000's) for 4 years. Then addiction comes first in life. Then I decided to stop by taking suboxone 8mg per day - it's incredibly hard to get off it. I got addicted to it for a few years then took methadone for about 2 months - curing opiates addiction with opiates not the best idea. It didn't work for me. So now I'm taking clonidine 0.3 mg. It was hell on earth for the first days. Shaking, burning of the body, hot & cold, RLS, and bad insomnia. After a couple of days it starts wearing down. Hanging in there!"

"I was addicted to the most powerful opioid carfentanil unknowingly and the withdrawals are so bad that they can be fatal. The first day I tried to quit I took an 8mg sub and it didn't even help and I had to be rushed to the hospital. So I relapsed the next three days. Then I finally found out what I had been taking and decided to go to ER the next day and tell them. I told them to keep me cause I didn't know what would work. The doctor told me he'd prescribe clonodine and send me home. I never heard of that and didn't think it would work so I pleaded with him for me to stay. That didn't work. So I got them filled and took them and they kicked my withdrawals ass. Way better than a suboxone."

"I was in a head on car crash @50mph. in 2008 and have been prescribed Morphine Sulfate AND Oxycodone as a "break through" drug when the Morphine wasn't doing enough for my chronic pain. I decided it was time to quit, yes I "set" my mind to quitting. The two worse parts for me breaking this addiction were the lack of sleep and the hypertension from no longer having the Opiates in my system. I am now on day 14 without Opiates and I owe it to Clonidine 0.1mg. Medical marijuana was the other thing I used. My doctor had not heard of this before so I educated him and the rest is history. I was able to just take 1 every 12 hours and will never go through the Hell of breaking another Opiate addiction. SUCCESS! Thank you, Steven"

"Been doing opiates since i was 14, started with percocets, then oxy 10s got up to 10 80s a day by 19, then heroin at 22 , smoked 2 grams a day, plus 200mg methadone. in April i was introduced to fentanyl powder, i started at 0.1, it knocked me on my ass, within a month i was smoking 3 grams a day PLUS 200 mg methadone. I cold turkeyed for 3 days, couldn't stand the pain, i was literally SCREAMING like a little girl, so i took 100mg methadone, still VERY sick, for 3 days. Checked myself into a treatment centre, COLD TURKEY for 30 days. I am 30 days clean today, i have a 0.1 mg prescription of clonidine. It helps sort of i take it at nights for RLS. I haven't slept more then 2 hoursin 36 days but am feeling 80%. Sleep in a hot bath"

"After 2 years on Subutex I want off. My doc has been gradually tapering me down over months (I was only ever on 8mg a day dose) and I am now only on 2mg every 2nd day of subutex tab. This week he sent me off with Valium and Clonidine. He said of course there will be discomfort. There is always going to be discomfort coming off opioids. It is inevitable but he also said that every 2nd day the discomfort I feel will be halved. I practice yoga daily, meditate and walk around the lake so I will continue these activities and take the clonidine and/or Valium as prescribed if I feel I absolutely need to. I had in the past has been rushed to hospital in an ambulance suffering withdrawals from oxycontin that felt like I was dying, vomiting and pooing everywhere, waking up in hospital 14 days later thinking I'd been there for 2 days - personally this feels like a walk in the park. I wish everyone luck living life free from addictive substances. Kind Regards from Australia."

Catapres (clonidine) "This patch helped me so much with opiate withdrawal. I used the patch for 8 weeks and discontinued my Ultram. I experienced zero withdrawal. I highly recommend using this patch to get yourself off the opiates."

"I was in a bad motorcycle wreck 12 years ago and it almost killed me. I spent 6 months in recovery. The drs put me on everything you can think of. I found out 3 years ago I have lupus and fibromyalgia. No drs want to see me because I’m such a medical risk since I’m on so many meds. I was referred to pain management. So now I’m coming off of 6 drugs at one time. I ended up in the ER from withdrawals and they sent me home with Clonidine. The only thing it’s helped with is I’m not shaking as bad, but it’s made me cry a lot and more depressed. My fentanyl patches and Xanax run out in 2 days. Needless to say since no psychiatrist or dr will see me I’m going to an out patient facility on Monday to get help. Good luck to everyone!!"

"After injuring my back in 2008, (back surgeries in '09 and '11), I was on morphine and then hydromorphone and hydromorph contin for 7 years. Made the decision to go 'drug-free" in Jan15. In June/15 I entered detox for 10 days, followed by 8 weeks in rehab. While in detox, I was switched over to Suboxone 24mg/day. Since Aug/15, I have been decreasing my dose and am now at 4mg/day. When I tried to go to 2mg/day, I began experiencing severe withdrawal again and went back to 4mg. 2 days ago I reduced again to 2mg, but was also given Clonidine .5mg 3 three time a day. I expect the wd to start tomorrow and will be taking the Clonidine with it. I am hoping and praying that this will be the trick to getting my life back. Your stories have made me feel better."

Catapres (clonidine) "Catapres does help with physical withdrawal. I am weaning myself down on Duragesic from 50mcg to 25mcg due to the medicine's withdrawal from the market. (FDA investigation stopped production around Feb 2011 and Johnson & Johnson has no okay to produce still.). After allowing the Catapres to work for a week, I dropped to 25mcg with little withdrawal symptoms compared to the unbearable effects without it. You must try it and remember that it's not a miracle medicine but a crutch to help you through what could have been a temporary absolutely unbearable experience. Some feel fortunate, blessed, rescued, and saved."

"Detoxed after narcotic pain management for 20 years. Was given Subutex and phenobarbital, etc. at Detox center, and while it was hell, no sleep AT ALL for 3 weeks, and muscle spasms from hell, came out clean. Get Botox injections for occipital neuralgia every three months in neck. Pain still vile. 15 years ago had cervical fusion, at C5/6, all related to the 20 plus pain cycle, car accidents, but you know what I mean. Again had Cervical fusion 10 months ago, now C4/5/6/7, still violent spasms. Was put on Dilaudid for surgery, and after one month on it, tapered, but needed support to get off completely. Pain management prescribed Clonidine. Worked like a charm."

"I was shocked having been through awful withdrawals before how much of a difference it was. I was easily taking 100mg/day of oxy. I tapered down too fast in 5 days to 15mg then was out. Couldn't get subs because I was also taking Xanax. Clonidine is very underestimated. I took it after my last dose of oxy and at 24/48 hours, I was groggy and weak but no stomach cringing muscle tension or nausea. It took a few days but today on day 3 I'm just fatigued. Still no withdrawal. Doesn't stop cravings and renders me lazy as hell but better than full withdrawal"

"I've been on opiate pain killers for 6 mos following a shoulder surgery--which is still painful and may require additional surgeries to correct. I got tired of taking Oxycontin 3x per day, or get chills, etc. Tried clonidine and it is as close to a miracle as you can get when withdrawing from opiates. No chills, not fever, no vomiting, I just take Imodium 2 tablets for the GI stuff--and it is a walk in the park over trying to taper then go off completely (which I did when I had my other shoulder done). I took 100mcg-150mcg 3x a day. Don't take for more than two weeks to be safe, and not become dependent on the clonidine, which has it's own withdrawal issues."

"Marin County CA.... You described my night. I don't abuse my meds and take as prescribed. I use the fentynal patches. I put my last patch on for the month and it fell off unbeknownst to me. By the time I realized I was in withdrawal. Went to the ER as my pain Dr said and they refused to help. My pain Dr gives me 2 months of prescriptions because I've been seeing him since 2012. So to the ER thought I had the jacked up patch, my box showing when the Rx was filled along with my Rx request for my patch to be filled in 2 days. They would not do ANYTHING for me. It's frustrating. I called my Dr back and they called in the catapres. I'm hoping, like you, it helps. I just wish that ppl like us would get some compassion. I'm 43 and have NEVER used illegal drugs."

"On day 2 of the clonidine patch haven't had a pill in 16 hours and going strong. So far this has been a godsend no RLS; usually I get 6 hours after my last dose of Perc. I feel groggy but am eating and lightly sleeping and no cravings. Note: I was taking 140mg of Perc daily for two years, did a quick 7-day taper, to yesterday. I went insane all week; then my PM doctor gave me the patch, and it is like night and day."

"I quit tramadol cold turkey after taking the maximum dose 400mg/day for too long. I took my last tramadol dose of 100mg at 1pm Tuesday. That night I didn't sleep a wink. I was crawling the walls. My legs & arms twitching & feeling like ants were gnawing my bones. I spent the next day feeling dreadful then took 0.1mg of clonidine at 5pm. I felt a slight improvement & managed to eat something. I took another 0.1mg at 9pm. This didn't seem to do anything. I tossed & turned in bed, the twitches were dreadful. I took a phenergan 25 mg. No effect. My brain fought it but I could feel the twitches subsiding & eventually I slept at around 3.a.m. Awoke the next morning feeling so much better for having slept & happier that I now have some way of managing the withdrawal symptoms. I think I probably need 0.2mg clonidine (as I'm overweight & have high BP) but would recommend starting at 0.1mg."

"I took this in rehab, after I got there I started withdrawing. They gave me Clonidine. It worked there. Turns out the lovely nurse gave my local pharmacy a prescription to some more. I just found out yesterday and I got it. I have been using in the past month. It would be 1 every 3 days I would use. But when I didn't use these pains would start in my lower back Bad. Now I just gotta see if it works this time. This saved my life."

"I am 48 hours clean of any opiates. I was on about 40 to 80mg of oxcodone a day which I know isn't much, but enough to have failed getting off them multiple times in the past two months. I started to take .1 clonidine twice a day after about 24 hours and since then I have had not even a little feeling of withdrawal. I am so happy I did not try going on suboxone which I had done in my past."

"I had brain surgery in May, and was on Oxy for 4 months, at at least 40 mg a day. That may not seem like a lot for very long, but I had a history of being hooked on opiates and I knew it would get out of hand, so I went to pain management right away and asked how to taper properly and he gave me a schedule to follow and clondine bc I never want to go through withdrawal again. I took it yesterday and the craving feeling is gone. No anxiety, nothing. But...I am so tired. Flat on my back tired. I am hoping that it eases up, but I know it's a side effect of this med."
