"Was diagnosed with anxiety, IBS & panic disorder in 2012. Over the years I've tried SSRIs (Sertraline, Citalopram), SNRIs (Venlafaxine), beta-blockers (Propranolol), but this TCA is the one I keep returning to. Virtually eliminated my IBS, overthinking and panic attacks. I've returned to it a 3rd time, and although I'm not 100% cured, it still seems to be helping. The side effects are inconvenient but manageable. Expect constipation, delayed orgasm, dry mouth & postural hypotension. Possible indigestion / reflux, but this might just be me! They don't recommend combining with alcohol, but I've always managed to enjoy a few drinks without any negative effects. If you decide to give it a go, start low and slow (25mg) and work up as needed. 50mg seems to be the sweet spot for me, but there's plenty of wiggle room (up to 250mg). I hope they continue stocking it in the UK, for those of us that seem to respond better to these older drugs."

"I'm a brazilian boy and i suffer from GAD, panic and depression. I was trying to find an alternative to Effexor (which was great but caused sexual problems). After using lots of meds without the same success my doc prescribed me Clomipramine. It did work!!!! And without the sexual side effects. But it has other side effects that i couldnt take like... everything tasted like rotten meat, my mouth and eyes were always dry (even drinking loads of water), my muscles felt so weak that sometimes i thougt i would not have the strengh to get out of bed, hands and chin trembling, sweating like hell... it completely deshumanized me. But if you're looking for something to kill your panic yeah this will work probably at the smallest dose"

"I’m diagnosed with GAD, panic disorder and OCD. I’ve been on 150 mg of clomipramine for a week although I started this medication on a low dose in mid November. So far my panic is completely gone and OCD is mild, but I still have problems with anxiety. Is it typical to have anxiety still, at this stage in treatment?"

"I was first started on clomipramine after experiencing bad postnatal depression 30 years ago. Since then I have had to go back on it at different times of my life when suffering with debilitating anxiety and after the sudden death of my husband.....It has always helped me out of these times, enabling me to get back to normal life where other drugs have made things worse. Now they have told me they are having trouble getting hold of it....It would be a disaster if they stopped manufacturing it definitely, its a really good drug."

"I asked my psychiatrist to try me out on this drug clomipramine because the reviews were so promising. I started off on a dose of 25MG and didn't really notice too much of a difference. I went up to 50mg and started to feel a little better, but still not 100% myself. I went up to 100MG and it was way to strong for me. My panic became worse and I was a crying mess. The side effects were extremely dry mouth, dehydration, and extreme difficulty in orgasming. I went back down to 50MG and that seems to be the sweet spot for me. I'm still depressed and anxious, but I'm able to leave my house, sleep better, have better sex (was on ssri's before and that killed my libido), and be functional. I know theres no magic drug that will eliminate all anxiety or depression, but this one has helped out a lot. I rarely ever get panic attacks anymore and I'm able to manage my anxiety a lot better. I'm a little upset because its not really helping with the depression, but I'm going to try and find something to pair with this."

Anafranil (clomipramine) "I had a bad weekend and couldn't control my emotions when on Librium alone. But with Geodon, a medication I've been experiencing serious side effects with, I am a lot calmer. So basically, it works but with something extra."

"I am a little complex in that I have Crohns, have had a parathyroid tumor. I was on Lofepramine which worked well for 7 years then I moved country and its been hell getting anything even slightly similar. I have debilitating anxiety and started with the suicidal thoughts and utter lack of seeing the point in existing or any goodness in the world, even art began to seem pointless. I have had 2 enormously stressful years and got put on this 75mg depo..slow release so...we have high hopes. I also worsen badly one week before menstruation, I only mention incase other women can understand. No side effects yet and the utter terror and fear anxiety causes..is lessening so far"

"Clomipramine did not work for my panic disorder. The sexual side effects were bad too. I only had success with Nardil (Phenelzine). Nardil is the best MAOI and it cured my panic and depression too. Don't waste your time on SSRIs or Tricyclics, ask for Nardil if you want real relief for Panic or Depression."

"I had been put on 8 different antidepressants before Clomipramine - SSRIs, SNRIs, Atypical, you name it. I have severe Panic disorder (non-agoraphobic) and physical symptoms of panic that have such intensity I could hardly function - dizziness, nausea, and depersonalization being some of the worst. It got so bad I developed depression on top of Panic disorder. I also have some OCD and PMDD. This medication has me virtually symptom-free of OCD and PMDD and with very low panic symptoms. It’s worth a try if nothing has worked for you."

"Clomipramine helped to a certain degree but I have to come off it now due to the hot flushes and the relentless sweating. It was just so uncomfortable to have sweat literally dripping off my face, back and chest."

"Only lasted one day on this drug. I took 25 mg clomipramine right before bed last night and experienced exhausting, intense vivid dreams. Woke up groggy and very spacey. This lasted for a few hours before the nausea hit, which lasted most of the rest of the day. First half of the day I was very tired, but not sleepy, and would start crying randomly. I wasn't as lethargic in the afternoon, but the nausea kept me on the couch. Was prescribed for OCD cyclical thoughts feeding into my anxiety. Granted, I haven't had any such thoughts all day, though this may be due to the distraction from the side effects of the drug. For me personally, the side effects outweigh any potential benefits. I do tend to be highly sensitive to medications though and have had previous issues with antidepressants. Hope it works better for the rest of you."
