For Bacterial Infection "I have a tooth that has to be pulled because it’s infected. I was prescribed this clindamycin by my dentist. I’m over a week into an every 8-hour routine (which has really been twice a day but should be three times). I always eat a full meal with the medication (as prescribed, so you don’t encounter heartburn problems). I have been wondering if people on this thread know this. I actually get heartburn regularly, and I haven’t experienced it from this antibiotic. The only thing negative I can say is that it makes me so tired a couple of hours after I take it. I assume because my body is doing a lot of work fighting infection. I've experienced a little dizziness when I get up too fast a couple of times, but nothing else."

For Bacterial Infection "I had to take this for a gum/nerve infection, and the medicine did work very well, but the heartburn is unbearable. It says don't lay down for 10 minutes, but I'd say don't lie down for about 30 min (I learned the hard way). Also, make sure you take it with a lot of water."

For Bacterial Infection "I was actually prescribed this drug to prevent infection following multiple tooth extractions, rather than treat an existing infection. It worked fine for that purpose, but it flat out destroyed my gut microbiota. Many months later, I still have symptoms of the supposedly transitory Inflammatory Bowel Disease that can be a Clindamycin side effect. Please note that if you are on Miralax (polyethylene glycol) for constipation or some other condition, you should stop before taking Clindamycin. Studies have shown it greatly increases the time for the "bad" microorganisms, such as dificul (which Clindamycin allows to flourish), from your gut after treatment. Four times longer! The cramping and constipation from Clindamycin had me in a fetal position from pain for many days. So if you have a delicate stomach, pre-existing gut disorder, chronic constipation, or rectal prolapse, you should probably ask your doctor for an alternative medication that might be gentler on the gut."

For Bacterial Infection "Oh my goodness, the heartburn. It is almost unbearable. And just like with any other antibiotic, it seems there is diarrhea. Just make sure to drink lots of water with this and pray you get through all the pills as quickly as possible!"

For Bacterial Infection "I just got put on this 5 days ago for a breastfeeding-related infection in my left breast. I get the worst heartburn, tightening in my chest, and severe burning in my throat. It also gives me terrible indigestion when I try to eat anything. The pain lasts for hours. No one told me about drinking a full glass of water and not laying down afterward. I feel a little better now, after reading these testimonials. And on the plus side, it is working great on getting rid of the infection."

For Peritonitis "I had a severe dental infection that had me in intense pain, and it was one of the worst painful experiences of my life. I didn't have the money to get the tooth pulled or worked on. After 30 hours on this medication, my pain had subsided. I have now been off the medicine for 2 days and no crazy side effects. I also tried to take some probiotics between doses to ward off any bad bacteria buildup. This medicine is a godsend. Very strong antibiotic. Must take each dose with at least 10 oz of water. Please don't let bad reviews steer you away from this medicine."

For Bacterial Infection "This drug saved my life. I had rapidly progressing facial cellulitis and had failed therapy on another antibiotic. Short of dying from it, I would have nothing bad to say. Medications have side effects, but they all beat death or a brain abscess. I can live with the inconvenience of sitting up a bit and some gastric distress. It is nothing compared to head, face, and sinus pain as cellulitis marches toward your brain!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Clindamycin is the best antibiotic I've tried for BV when taken in conjunction with probiotics. Curing BV requires obtaining the correct balance of good and bad bacteria down there. Antibiotics kill both, so it is essential to replace that good bacteria. Research the correct way to take probiotics and get a good quality brand. I spent almost 5 years trying to cure BV. It would go away and then come right back. Probiotics have been the answer for me. I take them every day, and I double up when taking antibiotics for anything."

For Bacterial Infection "Please, people, do not tell people not to take this antibiotic. This drug saves my life because I'm one of the 20% of people in the world with a severe allergic reaction to any other drugs related to the 'Cilin class (penicillin, amoxicillin, etc.). Yes, it does create more acid in the stomach, but it doesn't happen until around the 7th day, so be careful not to go past that day and just listen to the doctors since they do know what they're talking about. One tip I would like to pass along is when taking this drug, take it with some yogurt for the good bacteria, which should eliminate the side effects. Remember that this drug is a very strong antibiotic, so side effects are going to happen. If it happens, then stop taking it and ask the doctor for a different antibiotic, which they should have no problem giving you."

For Bacterial Infection "I started taking clindamycin on Thursday night for a tooth infection that had my face swollen. The 1st dose brought on immediate heartburn, stronger than usual heartburn. It wasn’t unbearable, so I just brushed it off as a side effect I’d rather deal with than the pain in my cheek. The 2nd dose wasn’t as bad, much lighter than the previous dose. Last night I took my 3rd dose, the heartburn started immediately, but this time grew rapidly into an unbearable pain in my chest. If I’d not already known it was the meds, I’d have thought I was having a heart attack. I’ve never felt anything like it. When I woke up this morning, my chest felt actually sore, that’s the only way I can describe it, like the day after getting punched or something. Needless to say, I’m not gonna see how the next dose goes, I can’t go through that again. Seems medications shouldn’t cause physical pain. As for my dental infection, my cheek has gone down, and there’s no pain."

For Bacterial Infection "It's too early to tell if it's working; it's just the difficult side effects. I've been dealing with brutal acid reflux and pain after swallowing (as soon as food hits the top of my stomach, there is severe cramping and pain). However, these are tips that have personally helped me quite a bit. I am not a professional in any way: 1. Drink with a ton of water. 2. Never, ever take on an empty stomach. 3. Eat with a large non-acidic meal; good: bread, rice, potatoes, bananas, milk, plain chicken. Bad: citrus fruit, tomatoes, oils, anything fried, anything carbonated, anything with lots of spices. 4. Do not lay down right after taking. 5. Take a probiotic, but take at least a few hours before or after taking this."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I am allergic to many antibiotics, including amoxicillin, and this is after taking it many times before and suddenly developing a reaction. I was given clindamycin (doc said it is one of the milder antibiotics) for 5 foot/ankle/calf surgeries. Months of my surgeries: Aug., Sept., Dec. 2013, and Aug. 7, 2014 (last night). The doctor didn't want me to develop an infection, which is why he prescribes it. It is now the ONLY medication that works for me. PLUS, I have a medium-sized hiatal hernia, GERD, and bad acid reflux and esophagitis. The previous 4 surgeries, I had to take the capsules 3 times a day for 10 days, and this last surgery 3 times a day for 3 days. THE KEY TO TAKING CLINDAMYCIN IS TO DRINK A LOT OF WATER AFTER SWALLOWING IT. I never had one problem."

For Bacterial Infection "I took Clindamycin because of a severely painful infection that was present both before and after a root canal. I was apprehensive about taking this drug due to all of the bad reviews, however, the only side effect I experienced was the metallic taste, which honestly wasn't so bad. After what felt like childbirth pain near my root canal for two weeks that wasn't responding to other antibiotics, the pain subsided after just three days of taking this medication. If I had to take it again, I would do it in a heartbeat. I took precautions when taking this medication, which is why I believe I didn't have any of the nasty side effects. While taking Clindamycin, I ate a bready substance both before and after taking each pill along with water."

For Bacterial Infection "I was given a strep test as I had gotten it for the first time in my life in September of this year, and as my neck and throat were again seeing all the symptoms in October. I was given Clindamycin 300 mg as an alternative to Amoxicillin and Erythromycin, as both just tear my stomach up and give me horrible diarrhea. The doctor said to also take this medicine with a probiotic (acidophilus). I did, and guess what? No tummy troubles. No diarrhea, etc. This is my 5th day, and most of my symptoms are gone. I'd use this antibiotic again if I had to."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I read the reviews before taking the medicine and almost did not take it. The reviews scared me, but I had to give it a chance, and I am glad I did. I did not experience anything mentioned in the reviews. It cleared my skin infection in 7 days. I did take it on a full stomach and ate 2 yogurts with live cultures daily to keep the normal balance in my stomach. I think this really helped."

For Bacterial Infection "I'm allergic to penicillin, and clindamycin has been a blessing over the years for serious infections after other non-penicillin antibiotics have failed. In 2007, for a severe dental infection, and now for a strep infection in my leg. The doctors do not want to use this 'first' because it is so strong. A little bit of a funky taste, drowsiness, but overall I tolerate it OK."

For Bacterial Infection "I was just prescribed this medication yesterday and started to take it today. I have a very nasty urinary tract infection, including bacterial vaginosis. I am very anxious when it comes to taking these kinds of medications, for I haven't taken them before. After a day to decide to take it, I manned up and took it. No side effects, and it works like a charm! One hour later, I felt so much better. I didn't feel like I had to constantly go to the bathroom, and no pressure on my bladder, I was so relieved. I would recommend anyone who suffers from UTI and bacterial vaginosis to give this a try."

For Sinusitis "It was a little scary to take, after reading these reviews, but I used the recommended high-potency softgel probiotics daily and was sure to take dosages on time, with plenty of water and a little food. No stomach upset, no heartburn, no side effects at all, really. I will continue to use the probiotics after my final dosage today, to ensure that things normalize post-treatment. I used a 7-day treatment after not responding to a 7-day treatment of amoxicillin. This seems to have done the trick."

For Bacterial Infection "I have been on clindamycin HCL for 5 days now for MRSA and have 2 days left. I have had heartburn for most of my life (I was in a fire when I was 10 and was on a staggering amount of medication that screwed with my belly), but the heartburn I experienced the first 2 days on clindamycin was the most severe I've ever had. I followed the directions, drank a lot of water, didn't lay down after taking it, etc., but I was still in so much pain and was bloated. I take Protonix to help control my heartburn, but I don't take it every day. I realized on day 3 that if I took the Protonix first thing in the morning with breakfast and waited an hour to take my first dose of clindamycin that I didn't have the heartburn at all! I thought I'd pass it on."

For Bacterial Infection "Took this medicine because of a toothache, and I'm waiting for a root canal. DO NOT lay down right after you take it. I have unbelievable heartburn and indigestion... I can't even sleep. I never get this. Also, take with a full meal. I took the 300 mg capsule and went to bed... huge mistake. Got up, had some toast and no relief at all. Toothache pain is gone. I'm allergic to a lot of drugs, but not this one, so I really have no other choice."

For Bacterial Infection "I was just prescribed this medication a few days ago, and I'm glad I read the information package beforehand because there are some potentially yucky side effects to this medication. I initially had no problems with this, however, last night, on my 4th night of the prescription, I woke out of a dead sleep with the worst chest pains I have ever had in my life. I legitimately thought I was having a heart attack, it was so bad. I woke my boyfriend in a panic, it was terrifying. I have had panic attacks before, and I always suffer from acid reflux, but my God, this was bad. I have never in my life been affected by a medication the way I was by this one. After a while, it did subside, but this morning I still have a dull ache in my chest/throat area."

For Bacterial Infection "I am using clindamycin for a possible tooth abscess. The doctor gave me a prescription of 300 mg capsules to last until I am able to get the tooth pulled. I will agree with another lady that commented on here, stating that it causes acid reflux to kind of kick up a little bit. I'm just grinning and bearing it because antibiotics can't always agree 100% with my stomach."

For Bacterial Infection "I'm extremely sensitive to all types of antibiotics-penicillin, amoxicillin, sulfur drugs, cephalosporins, Zithromax. I can't even take most OTC drugs. Unfortunately, I came down with strep throat and had to see a doctor. Thankfully, I have an amazing doctor who found me something that worked. Here are two tips that you HAVE to follow when taking this medication even if you are NOT generally sensitive to antibiotics: 1) Take it right after you eat a meal if it says with food. Every. Single. Time. No exceptions. 2) Drink AT LEAST 16 oz of water with it. My doctor put me on the lowest dose, 150 mg, three times a day for ten days. It worked beautifully. No headaches, puking, joint pain, dizziness, or rash."

For Bacterial Infection "This antibiotic is brutal but does its job. I began it 3 days ago due to pericoronitis (infection at the rear of wisdom tooth). By the 3rd dose, the infection was basically gone. It worked so quickly that I questioned if my body had killed off the bacteria or if the antibiotic was really that powerful. It's really that powerful. Sadly, the side effects are quite unpleasant but an indicator that they are really working. Fatigue, mild nausea, and lower abdominal issues seem to be quite common, and all three have hit me. It's unpleasant to the point that I've more than once thought of stopping the treatment, but I know that's a bad idea. It works really well... I just hope that I don't have to take it again for a very long time."

For Bacterial Infection "4th time on clindamycin. Twice for tooth infections. Second time now in a month for strep throat. 3 pills at a time, 4x a day for 10 days = 120 pills. I find it works but must be taken with lots of water and after you eat! And don't lie down for 10-15 minutes after taking it, or you'll get horrible heartburn that goes from your chest up into your throat."
