"Horrible pain and nerve damage in my feet after one pill. Couldn't walk normally for over a month and had to roll around in a chair. Turns out I didn't even have the UTI they prescribed it for, but the nerves will still get painful and make walking hard today, which is 6 years later. I wouldn't recommend taking this unless your infection is life-threatening!"

"This is my 10th day taking 500 mg Cipro every day for a UTI. I'm laying in bed with severe pain in my lower stomach. I have noticed side effects, i.e., lethargic, leg pain, etc. I still feel like I have to urinate even though I just did. I'm still having the usual symptoms of pressure, pain, and frequency... In fact, it feels worse. I have a call into my doctor, but wanted to let it run its course."

"Kept getting Cipro for UTIs. Would go away and resurface 6 weeks later. Then began the excruciating pain in legs and ankles, brain fog, a whole list of things going wrong. Do your research, and only if you are on death's door agree to take this poison. It may work at first, but you are likely to pay months and years later. So not worth it!"

"I would give it a negative 100 if I could. It is being misused for simple infections and has destroyed hundreds of thousands of lives. It destroyed mine. (after only 4 pills). Look up Cipro toxicity. Got to the fluoroquinolone wall of pain. Do some homework, but do NOT take this drug unless you are dying and there is no other option."

"I have had a UTI for about 2 weeks now. The first week I was prescribed 100 mg twice a day of Macrobid, which did absolutely nothing to my UTI. I went in for a physical days after finishing Macrobid and was told I still had a UTI, so I was put on 500 mg of Cipro twice a day. Ever since getting on Cipro, I have had pain everywhere in my body. I now have pain in my leg and behind my knee, I have horrible pain on the right side of my shoulder and neck, and I also have a sore feeling all over my chest area. On top of that, I feel as if something on my face is swollen. It does not appear swollen, but I feel my tongue is a bit bigger and so are other parts of my face. This is torture. I cannot wait to get off of this stuff."

"Was diagnosed with a UTI yesterday. Prescribed 250 mg Cipro 2x per day. I just had my third dose 20 minutes ago. The pain has lessened slightly and is becoming more manageable. I hope to be rid of the burning by this evening. So far, I'm happy with it (provided it works). I did have some side effects upon starting it: confusion, forgetfulness, and I had some weird dreams. My boyfriend told me I was shaking in my sleep at one point, and he was afraid I was seizing. Other than the mental side effects, I feel fine. Try a probiotic 30 minutes after each dose to counteract GI side effects."

"I went to the doctor with a UTI. I got prescribed the generic for Cipro 500 mg. The first pill, I felt fine, the second pill, I started to feel a tingling sensation on my forearm and pain in my wrists. The third pill, my arms hurt from the shoulders to the palms of my hands, my arms had gotten swollen, and I couldn't even stand my watch. I couldn't sleep at night due to the pain in my arms, which I thought was not normal. The next morning, before my next pill, I decided to read the side effects of this medication, and it said that in some cases, it could cause swelling, vomiting, nausea, and arm pain. At that moment, I stopped taking the medication and went back to my doctor and complained. I made them write this medication under my allergies so this doesn't happen again."

"Prescribed this for a UTI that seemed resistant to Macrobid. I was feeling pretty sick and in constant pain after Macrobid didn’t work. Cipro seemed to kick in after about 28 hours or so of taking it (3 pills). I went from feeling like I could barely get out of bed to being able to work. Still have some pain, but I can function again. No side effects so far except feeling slightly tired/some muscle aches. After a week of feeling miserable, it’s nice to feel better."

"I was prescribed an injection of the drug, followed by a 1 x 2 dose of tablets. I am restless, I have developed wounds on my lips, and the upper skin on my lips is burned permanently, tremors in the legs and hands, no appetite... it's horrible!"

"Took Cipro for a UTI twice a year for a couple of years. First time got a UTI, and it was gone quickly. Then got another six months later, continued frequently, the whole time acquiring other issues. When telling my doc, they said I was getting older. The issues I was experiencing weren't from drug toxicity, as they weren't going to stop writing the scripts. Tinnitus, neuropathy, small nerve neuropathy, vicious detachment, tremendous stomach issues, insomnia, depression, loss of memory. Nerve damage or neuropathy has destroyed my life. I can't pick things up anymore without pain. The burning, freezing feeling in my legs, feet, hands, and fingers is so painful at this point I'm losing the battle. The horror continues daily. Help me!!!!! Please."

"Cipro worked the first time I got a urinary tract infection, but has become less effective with each successive one. This time, my doctor gave me an injection of Rocephin, followed by a 15-day (twice a day) treatment of Doxycycline."

"For the last 10 years, I have suffered from regular bladder infections. Last week, I ended up in the hospital with a serious bladder infection. I was weeing blood, and the pain of weeing was the worst pain I had ever experienced. It was so painful that I nearly fainted a couple of times. After taking my first tablet of Cipro, the pain had decreased by about half. I took Cipro for 5 days (2 tablets a day). I have given it a 7/10 as, even though it works very quickly, and for me didn't get any symptoms, I don't feel like my infection has totally disappeared. I am worried that it's going to come back. My stomach is still bloated, and I need to go to the toilet nonstop. Really not sure what to do..."

"On the 7th and last day for taking Cipro, I developed a rash with no itching on most of my body. After 2 weeks, I still have some rash and also nausea. My doctor said Cipro had nothing to do with either. It did clear up my UTI infection, but should I not take Cipro ever again? Thanks."

"Came in hospital for severe bladder infection, was prescribed these, took one and left, sat at the park after, 10 min later I start to get very warm and face, ears, etc., very itchy. Felt something was very odd. I told my friend, and he looks at me and says, 'We need to go back to the hospital.' I had started from head to toe, swell and be covered in hives. I drove the 5 min back to the hospital, ran in, lifted up my shirt, and they buzzed me back in. I was immediately placed in a room, in rushed 2 doctors and a ton of nurses to begin my treatment for anaphylaxis. The abdominal pain was beginning at this point, as well as my throat swelling. I was admitted to the hospital for 5 days. Anaphylaxis is rare, I'm sure, but I would definitely advise only taking this medication within reach of a hospital in case the same were to happen."

"Took this medicine during chemo and radiation. Did not work, may have been because of the chemo and radiation, just not sure. Was given Bactrim and that did not work either. I am now on my 3rd of 5-day Levaquin dose and passed my AZO UTI over-the-counter test this morning, yeah. Two months of a UTI is a bit much, although I now know what works for the future."

"I am a male. Have been taking it for only 3 days, so cannot comment on efficacy yet, but since starting it, have been afflicted with continual attacks of hiccups (not listed as a side effect). Annoying and very debilitating (to those around me as well!) Seeing doctor in two days to decide the course of action. Will report later."

"Took this drug two times. One time I ended up puking nonstop, and the doctor felt it was a fluke but prescribed me something else. Second time, when I got a bladder infection and was prescribed Cipro, I had extreme leg pain. Barely could walk, so the doctor sent me to the ER, thinking it was a blood clot. Nope. Stopped Cipro, and I got better. Apparently, this is not unusual with Cipro. Not comfortable at all using this drug and do not recommend it. It was a nightmare. I believe this drug is a black box drug if I remember correctly."

"I took just one tablet, I was rushed to the hospital. I could not even pick my hand up. Sadly, someone gave me a second dose in the hospital the next day. Twenty minutes later, I went into anaphylaxis shock. I had eight doctors around my bed doing so many things. Thank God for those eight doctors acting so fast. Had I not been in the hospital that day, I would not be here now to tell my story. I was told it was a very close call even though I was in the hospital. This was a truly terrifying thing to happen. I am now so scared to take any antibiotic. 18.3.2016."

"RUN away from this drug as fast as you can, it is extremely dangerous and shouldn't even be approved. People have ended up crippled for life by taking just a few pills! If you just ingested this, I would recommend trying to throw it up, taking TUMS or calcium to counteract it, or drink milk while taking magnesium so it does not go into your body. Then proceed to call your physician and give them a telling off for trying to cripple you and not advising on the life-destroying side effects reported with this poison. There are other options to fight infection without lifelong issues, unless you are literally dying from an infection, you have NO business taking this med!"

"This drug, like so many countless victims before me, has so effectively degraded my quality of life that I simply lack words to describe how important it is to be cautious before the consumption of this deadly poison. I had a simple UTI at the age of 17; two weeks later my head began to throb and tingle. My hands were in so much unexplainable pain. I had never experienced anything like this at all before in my life. Also, I had just recently triumphed over a five-year battle with anorexia, going from 76 lbs to 105 lbs - looking forward to a healthy future. Now, I experience this nonstop, chronic pain all over my body. I am only 18. Definitely a 0.5 out of 10, to be quite honest with you all."

"Every time I get a UTI, they put me on Bactrim, and it doesn't help at all. Then they will put me on Cipro, and it gets the job done. So now I tell the doctor I want Cipro for a UTI."

"I am a 67-year-old female with no history of UTI until last week. PA prescribed Cipro 250. I can't sleep, I am having horrible heartburn, belching, and burning. I have 3 tabs left and will finish taking because it has helped the UTI. But I will not take it again."
