Rocephin (ceftriaxone) for Bone infection "I got this drug two weeks ago because of a persistent jaw bone issue. The doctor wanted to see if it would improve its outcome. I cannot tolerate oral antibiotics at this point. The shot given into my hip was immediately painful down the leg and into the back. She said it would be painful. That night it was still very painful and I began getting random nerve pain all over my body, my throat became painful and blisters on the back of my throat. It was the weekend so didn't call in. When I did they said they would put it down as an allergic reaction to the shot. It has taken two weeks for my throat to calm down, the nerve pain throughout the body is much less but still is occurring. There are still blisters on the back of my throat and I feel awful still. Would never get this drug again for any reason. This was given as a shot 1000 mg into my hip. I am 70 years old."

Rocephin (ceftriaxone) for Pneumonia "I had been to hospital with some pretty bad pneumonia. They were in the process of discharging me when the nurse gave me the shot. Let me be clear I have NEVER EVER felt such a painful shot in my life. Holy cow it felt like I had broken my arm and I couldn’t move it for at least 30 minutes after. Nurse said to rub it out and luckily it didn’t hurt too bad the next day."

Rocephin (ceftriaxone) for Kidney Infections "An injection of Rocephin does hurt a little but it's reconstituted with Lidocaine to lessen the pain. If you are not faint at heart with shots and you don't have an allergen to the drug than it will work wonders for you."

Rocephin (ceftriaxone) for Middle Ear Infections "I have been given this for otitis media and upper respiratory infections. It is a good "kick start" but the full effect is only achieved after a three-day course of injections. It works but is quite painful, especially for pediatric patients."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I just came back from getting my first of two ceftriaxone injections .This is the second time I have gotten these injections after suffering for years with UTI's from a combination of bladder prolapse surgery, a hysterectomy causing hormonal changes and age all setting me up for UTI's. I had tried every oral medication available for many years with only short-term relief and often horrible side effects including fainting, vomiting and more. Cipro was the first and made me black out and hit my head on the bathroom floor when I keeled over, blacking out. Taking D-manose, using Premarin estrogen cream and an internet touted product called UriAlive only offered short-term relief, but the bouts always came back about every two months. Now I have discovered ceftriaxone and it seems to be a miracle cure for me and I don't mind the butt injections at all, considering the alternatives."

Rocephin (ceftriaxone) for Gonococcal Infection, Uncomplicated "Found out I had Gonorrhea. Doctor prescribed this and antibiotic pills pills (doxy). The shot is NOT as painful as everyone says, especially if you take precautions: 1. Insist that the mix the shot with lidocaine, 2. Ice it when you get home, ice it before bed. I got it in the left arm and I was rock climbing the next day. Symptoms decreased significantly 6 hours after the shot."

Rocephin (ceftriaxone) for Pneumonia "My son was running high 102-104 fevers, took him to ER on Tuesday night. Chest x-ray confirmed upper left lung pneumonia. Was put on 2,000 mg of amoxicillin 2x per day. Was still running high fevers like before and went back to ER Thursday night with pneumonia that spread through the rest of his left lung. He received 2,000mg of rocephin by IV 1am Friday morning . 21 hours later he is still getting high fevers. This latest one being 103. I'm starting to think this antibiotic isn't working."

Rocephin (ceftriaxone) for Intraabdominal Infection "I was placed on a 30-day course of Rocephin via I.V. infusion (PICC line) by my infectious diseases doctor to handle a persistent, recurring and resistant strain of E coli that had caused a very serious intestinal infection. The infection caused perforation and led to an emergency ileocecectomy, partial colectomy and resection of my sigmoid colon. Taking the Rocephin was easy - it came in small pre-pressurized "bulbs" that I attached to the PICC line once a day and then carried around with me in a pocket for 30-40 minutes while it administered the proper dosage. Rocephin worked wonderfully for me, with zero side effects. My white blood cell count fell back to normal levels within a week of starting the treatment, and I have been infection-free now for more than 90 days."

For Bacterial Infection "I received this shot a week ago for upper and lower respiratory infection. It was a painful shot which is expected. However, a week later and I still have pain at the injection site. It’s about the size of a grapefruit and is painful to the touch and flexing of the gluteus muscle. I would say it did help relieve the symptoms of the infection, but not as quickly as some of the other reviews state. I’m just wondering how long I’ll have this pain in my glute."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I received 4 pills and this thick liquid anti biotic shot Rocefin/Ceftriaxone . A shot never hurt me until I got this one, lol. The pain of the shot was so bad in my arm I could only laugh. The doctors told me that’s all I needed I didn’t have any follow up antibiotic which kind of concerns me but maybe I’ll take some over the counter antibiotics to be sure it’s treated. After 2 days of taking the pills and the shot my UTI symptoms have already faded it actually worked great."

For Middle Ear Infections "I've gotten this ceftriaxone shot at least 5 times in my life. Most recently and every time for double ear infections. They shot me in my butt with 2 shots, one this, and the other was a steroid. Either way, I don't have back issues whatsoever, and my lower back is usually ON FIRE, it really hurts!! I most def feel this shot is worth whatever pain you are going thru to need it. Suffer thru the pain and get by."

Rocephin (ceftriaxone) for Urinary Tract Infection "Fortunately I don’t get UTIs very often, but when I get them, they’re extremely severe. I will feel one coming on, and then within an hour or two I’m peeing blood, in severe pain, and going every few minutes. I was hit with one in the middle of the night four days ago and was left with no choice but to go to the ER. I was prescribed Macrobid which has always helped me in the past, but a couple days later I felt that I was getting even worse. I went back to the ER yesterday morning and they gave me an IV of Rocephin, and switched my at home antibiotics. It’s been almost 24 hours since my Rocephin dose and I feel AMAZING. It helped the pelvic pain within maybe 4-6 hours. I woke up this morning and it still burned to pee, but now that I’ve been up for a few hours, the burning is gone. I am so grateful for this miracle antibiotic. I finally feel like a human again."

Rocephin (ceftriaxone) for Bacterial Infection "My doctor prescribed this for tooth infection until I could get to the dentist. I have problems with my stomach and can't take oral antibiotics. I had 2 grams the first day then one gram for the next 4 days. It seems to be helping the infection but I started having pain between my shoulder blades and belching. I also had bloating and pain in my stomach. So same stomach issues as oral antibiotics."

For Middle Ear Infections "Had this antibiotic injection for an ear infection. Recommended by a friend in the medical profession, she said it works better than anything else. Stings a bit going in the butt, but absolutely worth it, felt better a few hours after the injection. One and done. I would not hesitate to get this if it happens again. Sometimes you might need a second or third, but it is still the best option out there."

For Bronchitis "My 16 yr old son had a persistent sinus and throat infection. On our second trip to an urgent care center, the Dr prescribed a Decadron shot and a 1gram shot of Rocephin. He was not very happy to hear he was getting two shots, but nothing else had worked. The nurse came in with the shots and said both had to go in his bottom . The Decadron shot wasn’t too bad, but the Rocephin shot looked very large and was very painful. Even so, it really worked. He was sore from the Rocephin shot, but symptoms were almost completely gone the next day. I know he hated the Rocephin shot, but it really did work."

Rocephin (ceftriaxone) for Urinary Tract Infection "I suspected that I had a UTI before we left for a week in Florida with my three kids, their spouses, and my six grandsons. I was sick the entire time and ended up in the emergency room in Destin. They gave me IV Rocephin and a prescription for oral antibiotics to finish when I got back to the house. I won't say it started helping right away, but it did help cure my severe UTI. I haven't had any blaring side effects, and I don't know whether to attribute this to the medication or to my illness, but nothing tastes the same since I was sick. I'm nauseous, but not all the time, and again I can't attribute that to the medication because I was so nauseous during the course of the illness. I'm very grateful for it."

Rocephin (ceftriaxone) for Bacterial Infection "I received Rocephin for treatment of thyroiditis through i/v in a diluent 2 years back. Just after 3 to 4 min of i/v infusion, my body started getting warmth and severe itching on whole body along with sweating. The medication was immediately stopped however the feeling continued for next 10 to 15 min. I was giving antidote immediately to reduce the symptoms and was shifted to ICU for vitals observation. It was the worst experience of my life with any antibiotics. It didn't work for me. But everyone must also be careful if they are getting it for the first time."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I've taken all antibiotics on the market for UTI's over the years. I already had a doctor appointment scheduled for the end of the week so I pushed through. I had never known of the shot and was startled when my doctor asked, "you can have this shot or take a week worth of antibiotics". Of course I took the shot! The initial shot wasn't bad at all. But, after it felt like someone had punched me in the buttcheek. I looked funny rubbing my cheek but it helps disperse the fluids through your tissue better. The soreness only lasted about 2-3 hours then it was fine. The pain from the urine infection started going away quick, so much faster than oral medication! It is Sunday now and already I feel so much better. Now, to await the vaccine that's in the works!"

For Joint Infection "I was bitten by my cat and ended up in the hospital for 6 days with an infection in the wound. I was put on ceftriazone through IV. I was then sent home with a PICC line and I was giving myself this medicine intravenously for 15 more days. I suffered through some side effects and now I have to get treated for Clostridium difficile which is caused by long term IV antibiotic treatment. The jury is still out on how effective it is."
