"This medication did not work for me. I started experiencing anxiety even though I never had this problem in my life. I also experienced tightness in my chest and had trouble with digestion. It didn’t bring down my blood pressure. I made one trip to the emergency and two trips to my doctor, who changed my medication to Amlodipine, and all of the negative symptoms were gone. I am back to normal and my blood pressure is now 120/65. I guess every person is different, but don’t suffer if one medication doesn’t work for you."

"My doctor prescribed 8 mg candesartan, lowering my blood pressure from 160/80 to 140/80. Blood test came back and no deterioration in my kidney function. The doctor wanted me to increase the dosage to 16 mg. I resisted and said I’d take an additional 4 mg tablet daily. Three weeks later, my blood pressure is down to 129/80, but my kidney function has declined and I was fainting. Saw another doctor who told me to take only 8 mg dosage and will reassess in a month’s time."

"Been taking candesartan for 4 months now, 8 mg along with low-dose moxonidine. While it has helped with BP, it has caused numerous side effects from head pressure, lightheadedness, heart palpitations, and very sore, achy joints. I will be speaking to my cardiologist within the next few weeks and getting this medication changed, I need to have some sort of life back."

""May take up to 6 weeks for full effect." I was assaulted, hit in the head. I lost consciousness for about 5 seconds. I also have an undiagnosed "thing" (it's not a blood clot, unlikely to be a tumor according to the CT specialist). I am waiting for an MRI. I am male, weigh 125 lbs, about 5'10. I was 161/122 BPM 76. I took 8 mg about 16 hours ago. 123/88 BPM 80. I felt like I put my head through the wall. Obviously, I don't feel perfect. But my headache has gone from 7 to 3, ten being pain so bad you lose consciousness. I do have "post-concussion syndrome". This drug is reducing my blood pressure with certainty. It does make me tired. I am a little dizzy. My nose is running into my throat a bit more. Don't ignore your body. I was throwing up for 3 months. This drug lowers blood pressure, and I am perhaps mildly more dizzy. We'll see in the future what is wrong. I still have a headache, but my BP is good again."

"I was prescribed this drug to control my high blood pressure of 165/110. I tried other drugs but suffered bad side effects. I'm on the combo Atacand of 16/12.5 and 4 mg. My blood pressure is under 140/90, and I have only occasional shortness of breath when exercising. As a great side effect is my ability to hold an erection stronger and longer-something that was missing before."

"I have been on candesartan for 16 years for high BP with relatively no problems. Unfortunately, it was giving me low sodium levels, so my GP has taken me off it. I am now struggling to find a tablet that suits me."

"Similar to a previous post. I was on amlodipine for about 6 months, and BP was around 140/85. Then my neurologist decided to change me to candesartan. Now, after one week, my face is flushing, and BP is 170/114. I feel like rubbish, and my headaches are back."

"I've been on candesartan for 2 years, prescribed by a doctor who tried to bring my blood pressure down. Initially, it seemed to work, except when I needed to go into the ER with an episode, and my BP was incredibly high (white coat syndrome), and they'd tell me to take the maximum dose, 32 mg. I started to get headaches, which became daily and then turned into migraines, which I had not had since I was a teenager. The doctors would just blame everything on my BP, which was white coat syndrome (being scared of hospitals and clinical environments). They put me on NSAIDs (naproxen, ibuprofen, etc.), which caused HBP. I ended up getting diazepam to try to bring my BP down as it was causing me anxiety. The headaches were scary as I was convinced I had a brain tumor or aneurysm. I booked to see a neurologist who put me on amitriptyline 25 mg for the headaches, which did work, and I had an MRI scan, which thankfully was all clear. I then stopped using candesartan, and my BP was back to normal, and I had no headaches."

"I was taking three different blood pressure meds that I didn’t know where I was with them. I was taken off them all and started again at square one. I was put on Candesartan because Ramipril gave me a bad cough and felt like it never worked. Twelve years later, I started Candesartan, and my dose was 8 mg. I vomited three times during the start of Candesartan, but it wore off and got readings of 147/86, the lowest in years. At 16 mg, the reading was 132/78, so I was left on the dose. When I think of three, I was getting readings of 189/90! On this one pill, it is controlled."

"I have been on Atacand Plus 32 mg for the last 10 years after a stroke. I was allergic to other medications and have been very happy with them, as my BP rarely gets above 130. I also take Lercandipine 20 mg. Recently, I've started having back aches and flu-like symptoms. I've also lost my appetite, have no energy, and just feel exhausted all the time, so I think it's time to discuss with the doctor if a change of medication is needed. I don't know if Atacand can build up in the body or not. I have blood tests regularly, and they have always been good."

"I have had a terrible time with this medication. Has not brought my blood pressure down. I have been having heart palpitations, sharp pains in my chest that are so severe I thought I was having a heart attack, also trouble breathing. I was fine on a lower dose with side effects, but it wasn't bringing my blood pressure down, so the doctor increased it to 24 mg from 8 mg. I hope other people have better luck with it. Just wanted to let people know if you're having these symptoms, that's what it is. Thanks."

"I’ve been taking 4 mg of Candesartan for approximately 3 months. Didn’t do anything to lower my BP. So I then started taking 8 mg, and my sinuses got so bad my eyes were constantly watering to the point that my eyes were swelling, red from wiping them all day. I am coming off them."

"Was having very irregular heartbeats and BP around 140/82, so decided to restart Candesartan after 8 months. Initially took 16 mg mornings, but did not improve either BP or erratic beats. So discussed with GP and now take 8 mg mornings and 8 mg bedtime. Well, what a difference. Beats now 54-62 average and BP now 119/69 averaged over the last two of three measurements. Now the beats are regular, my stamina and tiredness have both gone to the better. No other side effects noted. 75 yrs. Comfortable taking this medication for the present."

"Candesartan lowered my high BP immediately and heart rate back to normal. 10/10 for this point. Negative effects were, I urinate hourly like a horse and I haven't had a hard-on since starting tablets. Slight headaches at times. Neg effects 0/10. Overall 5/10."

"I have been taking this medication for 8 days. From day 2, I have had severe back pain, which is only relieved by lying down, but once I’m up walking for a few minutes, the pain returns. I also feel weak all over. My blood pressure has not gotten any better. I want to know if the back pain will resolve in the short term or if this is constant while on this medication. Also, how long before my BP will improve? My cardiologist has told me to try Amlodipine 5 mg. I don’t know what to do as the side effects of this drug seem worse."

"Family many with high blood pressure. I had approximately 140/76, 136/80. Started candesartan after two other meds caused side effects. Candesartan only took BP down maybe to 130/76. After 3 months, I quit it cold. Gained 10ths on it, very tired in afternoons, sleep terrible, anxiety often, but no cough, no headaches, no water retention, but must have slowed my metabolism to gain 10 lbs in the first month. Took 8 mg only."

"I started using candesartan 8mg since February 23.... Initially, it took two weeks to get adjusted. Later on, my BP got controlled and I never had a BP spike. But the sad side is, for initially unknown reasons, I had started dizziness on and off.... Impacted my daily routine also, at the time since May 23, I started with a constant sore throat and coughing issue. For these issues, only God knows how I have been visiting numerous doctors. Took various antihistamines, antiallergy, and neuro-related medicines for the dizziness issue. But later on, a cardiologist suggested me to change my BP medicine, and I switched to valsartan 80 mg. And my cough disappeared. So be careful before taking candesartan for BP."

"I have only taken this drug at 8 mg for a week, but already have stuffy, burning nasal congestion issues. Also, post-nasal mucus causing a constant cough, especially at night. Heart rate is 15 points higher with a jittery feeling all day. Loopy, lightheaded, and exhaustion, which includes difficulty walking from seemingly weak legs. Was hopeful, as other ARBs give me migraines with auras. Will have to scratch this off my list too. Bad medication for me. Wish others would mention what alternative BP med is working for them."

"I have been taking candesartan 8 mg for about one month. Apart from a bit of back pain, my blood pressure has come down really well. I am sleeping better than I have in years. I take them at night as they help me to sleep. I also have more energy than I have in years during the day and feel great. They are amazing. I know not everybody has the same experience. For me, it works extremely well and makes me feel so much better."

"I've been on 4 mg for 2 weeks and have had severe headaches, nose bleeds, upper back ache, anxiety, jaw pain, and bloated stomach. I noticed a bit of swelling in my feet. After being off one day, no more symptoms. I've been put back on the Sandoz brand."

"I've been on it for nearly 20 years now, taking 16 mg per day. I've never really noticed any side effects at all! I came off it for a while, but my blood pressure again hit the heights, so I went back on it (I'm summarizing this), and it dropped again. It just seems to work."

"Was put on this drug at 8 mg and later, the doctor increased it to 16 mg. I developed tinnitus after the increase to 16 mg. I can't sleep, I reduced to 8 mg, the tinnitus is less severe but still there. Going to my doctor to discuss other meds."

"I have been on Candesartan for 4 years. I am 70 y.o. female. Started on 16mg, then 32 mg, controlled and lowered BP. Retired and after a few months went back down to 16mg, 6 mos later 8mg. Cardiologist approved as long as my BP was still good. Since then I have been taking 4mg, still with awesome BP's. Important: while on for 2 yrs and feeling good, when I picked up prescription I discovered that my fatigue was extreme. BP still good but could barely get off couch. Noted that my drugstore had changed vendors, new contract. Wow! I kept a bottle of when I was feeling good, former manufacturer and found pharmacy who used that and felt better immediately. If you experience sudden changes make sure your manufacturer has not changed. Who knows what inactive ingredients made me completely exhausted. I am taking 4mg presently and went back to morning dose from night. Only side effect is dry mouth and if I take it in the morning at least I am drinking most of the day and don't notice dry mouth."

"Trialing this drug due to side effects from similar antihypertensives. Initially, polyuria continued, as well as very low BP, extreme fatigue, breathlessness on minor exertion, with some mild chest pain and nausea. The dose was halved, and blood pressure increased to normal and polyuria stopped, but the rest of the symptoms continue. Trying to get in to see a doctor. Yesterday, an ambulance was sent for fear I was having a heart attack. I suspect they are drug side effects."

"Just started this, and blood pressure was normal to start. It is being used to protect kidneys from spikes in BP. So, blood pressure was fine before taking, then had a spike, then blood pressure was lower than before. Then felt sort of pressure in the chest, sort of a sinking feeling in the chest. Then BP spikes again, and now ear ringing. It could be the spike after the chest feeling came from anxiety, but now BP is higher than wanted. It may be the extra ingredients in the drug or the drug itself. I am allergic to preservatives."
