Zithromax (azithromycin) "I get sinusitis several times a year. The old-fashioned 5-day Z-packs used to work really well for me. They still do "knock down" the worst of it (I carry a filled prescription from my doctor when I'm traveling on business) ... but in the past several years I've noticed that sometimes the sinusitis will rebound in a couple of weeks and I end up having to take a different type of antibiotic. Unfortunately, those secondary antibiotics tend to get to me -- queasy stomach, the "taste" of the medicine even hours later. None of that with Zithromax. The only time I had a bad experience with Zithromax side effects was the three-day pack."

Zithromax (azithromycin) "This medication did help my issue but it has now caused me to bruise so easy. I can barely scratch my leg and a few minutes later, my leg looks like I had been hit. They are not the painful but they or tender."

"After going to the GP countless times for a bad sinus infection, that would be mostly situated at the back of my eyes the pain being the worse pain I've felt ever, a friend of mine told me to try azithromycin because she did for chronic sinusitis and it helped. I decided to ask the GP and within 2 days I found that I felt so much better. The co amoxiclav I used to be given had stopped working and amoxicillin did absolutely nothing, the infection would even spread whilst I was on it. Horrible side effects don't get me wrong but it works so I would happily live with the side effects"

"I’ve taken this since I was 8 years old- I’m 28 now. I’ve gotten chronic sinus infections and ear infections and this is the only drug that has helped. Every drug has side effects and this may or may not effect you poorly. Never had any adverse reactions with this medication. If anything it has improved my quality of life dealing with sinus infections. Good luck to everybody needing this!"

"I was given the zpak 5day pack, Day 1 took two pills, 2 hours later i coyld not move due to SEVERE upper stomach pain that felt as if it would kill me, the pain was so bad it I couldn't even breathe because it felt like my stomach was getting ripped out from the inside. If you dont have heart problems already you will after taking this medication from all the clenching and being heeled over. I did not experience diarrhea after taking the day 1 dose. I could not fall asleep. Im suppose to take day 2 dose but I'm very weary of taking it after yesterdays episode I was in bed from 8 a.m to 2 a.m dont know if taking only one pill today would be different from the 2 pill dose."

"After third dose I feel worse than before. Headache, diarrhea, bad taste in mouth, upset stomach, and weak. Two doses left of five day pack and can breathe a bit but other side effects are awful. Feel as unmedicated I felt better."

"I'm sensitive to most medications and I've had severe reactions to many antibiotics as well. Surprisingly, I continue to be able to tolerate azithromycin (Z Pack). It's been effective for my sinusitis and I'll continue to request it, until it no longer works (side-effects are mild). I do notice that physicians will almost always prescribe Augmentin as a first-line antibiotic for sinusitis, because it's effective against most strains of bacteria. It's a much more powerful drug, with the potential of more severe side-effects as well. I'll reserve the big guns only when absolutely necessary. Good luck in your recovery."

"Was given this medication 7 days ago and still feel sick. Yesterday I took a shower and sinuses really started draining. I was so excited. Am also doing the sinus flush 4 times a day. Today I woke up with a headache and the chills. Took another shower with little drainage. Back to the Dr. on Monday as this should be working by now."

Zithromax (azithromycin) "After years of suffering a one nostril clog. I was recently prescribed a 5 day 250MG dosage of Zithromax. I had zero side effects and it although it didn't totally clear my sinus infection it cleared it enough for me to know it was absolutely effective and on the right path. I can now get lengthy periods of use out of my other nostril and that's better than I've had in 10 years."

"The first day it caused me very bad nausea. However I think it's because I had to take 2 pills on the first day per the instructions. On the 2nd day I had a bit of diarrhea but the nausea went away. I learned that I had to eat a lot to get my stomach full in order not to feel the nausea. Overall, this medicine worked in clearing up my sinus infection. I feel that on the 3rd day the medicine did its job and I started showing much improvement. (My fever had gone away after the first dose of medicine.)"

"Relief in 12 hours from my painful sinus infection... will of course continue the regimen, I did also use a Neti pot and advil. I am amazed at the results. I had my first decent night's sleep in a week."

"Treatment for sinus infection. Hasn't helped or cured. My sinus infection is worse (that horrible smell that comes with a sinus infection). The dosage was 250 MG. And of course when calling the practitioner I'll have to come back and spend another $75 just to get a higher dosage. Yay for American for profit healthcare."

"Got this prescribed yesterday for my sinus infection I have, on day 2 of taking it and still do not feel any better although I was told it is a slow moving medicine. Throat hurts really bad and hurts to swallow, hopefully it will improve."

"Had to stop taking because of SEVERE stomach pain and cramping. I would double over in pain and could't find relief doing anything, just had to suffer through it. Took me about 3 to 4 weeks to get back to normal. DO NOT recommend :("

Zithromax (azithromycin) "I am on day 3 of this I felt like death on day one could barely stand up clogged up extremely sore throat ... day 2 still clogged up but not as much and throat starting to feel better I'm surprised! Say 3 today still some mucus this morning dnd a bit of sore throat but way way better then day 1!"

"I had to stop this drug early because it gave me such bad stomach pain. I'm allergic to Penicillin, so this was the next choice for my sinus/ear infection. Even tried with a full meal and probiotics, but it took my stomach a full month to return to normal after stopping azithromycin, will not be taking again."

"I'm on day 4 of Zpack. Started out on Doxycycline. Took it for 2 days and had horrible side effects. Replaced with 5 day Zpack. I have had some stomach pain. It starts about 2 hours after I take it and lasts for about 2 hours. I started taking Culturelle prior to the Zpack. I think that has helped keep some of the tummy troubles at bay. I feel a lot better. I've been sick with sinus infection for 22 days. The only issue I am having now is pain and tenderness in the bridge of my nose. I have 1 more day on Zpack. Not sure if it's going to help my nose."

"Had a severe sinus infection that was getting worse over a week and the Doc prescribed me a 5 day, 6 pill Z-pack of 250mg Azithromycin and 10mg Prednisone; 40mg for two days ,30mg for two days ,20mg for two days,10mg for two days and last 5mg for 3 days. So far this cocktail of drugs has made a vast improvement in only a few days! No known side affects at this time, had loose stool, very little appetite and very bad time sleeping before started taking both drugs. If i had to pick one that's most prominent I would say loose stool. If you tend to be gassy, where a diaper just in case."

"Every fall going into winter I get a bad sinus infection and starts into my chest. Zithromax is the only thing that works. Started working after the first dose of 2 pills on first day. Mild diarrhea on first day. Augmentin has worse side effects for me and does not work as well causing nausea And stomach cramps. I can handle the mild side effect of Zithromax because the end result is feeling better and fast."

"Took this drug (5 day dose) for a sinus infection. It did clear up the infection but the side effects were horrible. I got dizzy, had a horrible headache, felt nauseous and at one point even vomited. Each day was agonizing, and I think I could have taken something else easier on the body for a minor sinus infection. I finished my last dose two days ago but I'm still feeling the dizziness. I hope it goes away soon."

"I am on day 2 of this antibiotic for a severe sinus infection. On my first dose of the 2 pills, my stomach started becoming upset, it was bloating and overall bad feeling in my gut. Day 2 (which is where I am at now), and I do feel much better concerning my sinus issues but my stomach still hurts and I am bloated. I have been taking this antibiotic for years and have not experienced this before with my stomach. I had something to eat right after taking both doses. But I will say that the sinus pain and pressure in my face and eyes is gone!! Which is a big deal to me. I'll just have to deal with the stomach pains... they aren't severe. I am wondering if somehow they have changed the make up of this antibiotic since I haven't had these issue"

"I have Still's Disease and chronic Sinus infections. Zithromax the brand will clear the sinus up for a couple of weeks to a few months. Twice now I have used Azithromycin generic for 5 days, instead of the brand, when all of the local pharmacies were out of brand. Both times it has done nothing. I don't know if this is because my immune system is a little sensitive due to the Still's. Just know the brand works for me and Azithromycin has no effect. I just get sicker and with my Still's that can be terrible."

"Went to dr 3:30 pm Wednesday took first dose which was 2 pills 250 mg Azithromycin plus a 6 day pack of prednisone, I had severe pain in both sides of neck and coughing from serious sinus drainage. Dr said is it was Rhino Sinusitis took first that night seem to be a little better but the next day I could not tell if it was worse or better by that night Thursday I felt more energy but throat was raw. Lots of water and ice. Then around 6 I could feel my throat getting better. By 8 pm I started sneezing and my nose running like a tap all stopped by 10 pm CRAZY. Went to bed woke up much better Friday morning but still a small sore throat I can deal with. Not bad stuff will try it again."

"Been on two rounds of the z-pak because the first dose didn’t work, bad side effects - headache every day, nausea, stomach bloating, stomach burning pain, couldn’t take the side effects and didn’t take the last dose on the last day. Still feel congested and lousy. Does anyone know of a better antibiotic without the damn side effects for a nasty sinusitis condition. Tried all the home remedies. "
