"Horrible medication!!!! After taking a third pill, I started to have an excruciating pain in my ear, and within several hours, I lost partially my hearing in both ears. I have looked up the side effects in the enclosed flyer and also online, and there is an FDA warning that this antibiotic is linked to hearing loss! I almost had a heart attack reading it. I have informed my doctor, but they say they never heard of anything like that (of course). I didn't finish taking the prescribed dose. My hearing has improved a little bit, but it has been more than 2 weeks, and I still can't hear well. My ears are ringing and clicking, and I am so scared that this might be permanent. Has this happened to anybody else?"

Azithromycin "Although there should be no negative drug interaction with this antibiotic and other medication I take daily, I had a severe allergic reaction: swelling of throat and tongue, vertigo and dizziness, bad taste in my mouth (even days after), and vomiting. I'm on my third day of the medication now and still feel sick and 'weird.' My throat and tongue are no longer swollen, but all my muscles hurt, and my skin feels painful, also major headache, and very sleepy."

Azithromycin "I'm 35 and have had sinus infections as long as I can remember. Prior to my allergy shots, I was getting them 3-4 times a year. Z-PAC is my favorite, and it cures it quickly. Once in a blue moon, I'll need another round, though. But lately, my doctors have said the bacteria has been resistant to it, and I've used another medication, and though it works, it takes so much longer. I'm happy to say that I'm told the bacteria this year isn't supposed to be as resistant to it. For all the ladies, you may want to ask for yeast infection meds before you leave the doctor's office. For me, it never fails."

"I get a very bad sinus infection every year. This year, as soon as I felt it coming on (day 4), that's early for me, I went to an urgent care. The doctor confirmed it was a sinus infection and gave me the Z Pack. The first day is 2 pills with 1 pill for the next 4 days. After 12 hours of taking the first 2 pills, I felt so much better. I will continue to take the remaining pills, and from now on, I will get to a doctor early on and request the Z Pack. I highly recommend it."

"Did a great job of treating a sinus infection, where I had pounding headaches all day for 48 hours prior to use. By day 2, I was significantly better. One issue is that two pills on day 1 did wipe out bacteria in the gut. I wish the pharmacist had given me a heads-up. In hindsight, I would have spaced the first 2 pills out by at least 12 hours. Took one pill at 4 PM and another at 8 PM. By day 2, I was fine, but I did need a probiotic and Imodium to get through the first night."

"I went to see the doctor finally after 100+ days of sinusitis... just thought it was a persistent cold. No bad side effects at all, but not as effective as I had hoped. First day (2 doses), I felt improvement after 4 hours. Day 2, unfortunately, all symptoms worsened (congestion, headache, ear pressure, postnasal drip, coughing). Day 3, symptoms became worse still. Day 4 was nearly unbearable with the worst headache I have had in my 66 years. Ears felt as if filled with fluid. Not able to sleep at all at night, even with head in an elevated position. Today is Day 5, and I've taken the final dose. There is some improvement today, and the package asserts that the antibiotic will keep working for Days 6-10, even though no more doses will be taken."

Azithromycin "I was prescribed Zithromax for an upper respiratory infection, and I did not have such a good experience. The first day I had really bad diarrhea. I couldn't even leave the house. The second day I was overwhelmed with nausea. I took the pill with food and still felt sick to my stomach the entire day and night. Today I have decided the terrible side effects are not worth it, and I'm not going to take the rest of my prescription."

Azithromycin "I have had this sinus infection for 5 days. Went to the doctor's yesterday, the doctor prescribed me Zithromax. The side effects with me are stomach cramps, diarrhea, bloody nose, and dizziness. But it seems to be working so far. Let's hope that by the time the bottle is finished, I feel like myself again."

"I usually get 2-3 sinus infections a year, usually starts with a cold, then comes the sinus infection. Azithromycin is a miracle drug for me. I was seen by Dr. today, and the pain was so intense it caused my blood pressure to be high, she prescribed me Z-pack, and within hours after taking the initial dose, the pain is 50% less. I do not have any side effects from the medicine, and it is the only prescription drug that works this well on my sinus infection."

"On my 2nd package of 5-day Z pack, it is working but slow to act. This is a bad infection, it had been on and off for the past 6 months. I will need another refill today, or my Dr. may try another option. I cannot take any cyllin drugs. This sinusitis is a chronic problem. I was experiencing this problem almost yearly every fall/winter, then stopped for the past 5 years. Now it is back with a vengeance."

"My 10-year-old had a right ear infection and was prescribed azithromycin. He took the first 2 pills, which totaled 500 mg, and within 30 minutes, he was vomiting, having diarrhea, and chest pains. We took him to the ER, where we were told there was at least a 5-hour wait and decided to take him back home and give him a lot of liquids to try and flush this out of his system. My advice: don't give a child 15 and under more than 250 mg."

Azithromycin "I started the pack on Sunday and experienced diarrhea and mild itchiness. I'm on my last day, and I'm feeling really good. This medicine seemed to work very well. I was hesitant at first, but it seems to clear things up very well."

"Sinus pressure and infection, got Zpack for the first time ever. One week later, and my sinuses are still clogged, headache lasted 5 days and feels like it will reoccur. Diarrhea every day. Tried every single homeopathic way to beat this feeling. Still can't sleep well, and my nose runs. This sucks."

Azithromycin "Z-Pak was given to me during a walk-in care visit. Seven days after starting, my condition has not improved. I experienced several side effects, including nausea, diarrhea, fever, sweating, and more. The worst of all is the loss of appetite caused by the medication. I have only had about two days' worth of meals in the last five and still cannot stomach a full meal."

"I have chronic sinusitis, so I usually treat it with nasal/sinus rinses (saline) and good basic hygiene. But occasionally it gets bad and stays bad for 7 or more days, in which case a run of antibiotics always helps. I use the one-pill-a-day-for-three-days Azithromycin, as it always works and is most convenient. No side effects, and I usually start feeling better after the second day. I try to avoid doing this too often, as I'm aware of bacterial resistance issues. I've learned over the years to know the difference between allergies, colds, and bacterial infection, so I don't overuse or abuse the antibiotic. I've never had the diarrhea or stomach cramping described by some."

Azithromycin "The day one, two pills do tend to wipe out the bacteria in my gut. After having stomach issues on the first night of the first time, I do take a probiotic and one Imodium at night. The first time I took this, it wiped the infection in 48 hours. The second time, 11 months later, it did not work quite so well. The infection greatly decreased but did come back 5 days later. I think part of the problem was that I still had a virus and mold allergy problems from rain, as well as an infection, so had trouble eliminating congestion. I took a 5-day dosage and did have symptoms reoccur in a week. I do think it would have worked better if I had not had these additional issues related to a virus and allergies."

Azithromycin "I’ve taken this Azithromycin Dose Pack twice a year for about fourteen years for sinusitis and never had a problem with it, always worked great without any side effects. When I started taking it this time around, the headaches were so bad, and the diarrhea and loose stool are unbelievable, so after four days, I’ve stopped and won’t take the last pill, that’s how bad the side effects are this time. I know one day more for the last pill would be silly to stop, but I just can’t handle the side effects any longer. The brand that the pharmacy gave me this time is a different brand, so that may have something to do with it. The pharmacy I used for years has closed down, so the other one has different pills or brands for the same meds. I’ve always said a pill is just a pill, and it doesn’t matter what brand it is, but after this, I changed my mind completely on that."

"I'd be lost without this medication. I get a few real bad sinus infections per year, and they put me down and out 100%. Azithromycin is the only thing that will get rid of them. My doctor knows this, and we don't even try alternatives. Within 1 day after the first dose, I feel relief. Generally, no side effects, other than some stomach upset and sometimes slight nausea. Understanding antibiotics kill all the good bacteria in your GI system, I don't think there is an antibiotic that won't give you GI symptoms. Without a doubt, take this with food, and the side effects are not as bad. Affordable, easy, effective."

"Pretty standard experience. I took two pills a day for subacute sinusitis (relapsed a week after amoxicillin). Cleared my sinuses and low-grade fever pretty quickly, but I did experience diarrhea, abdominal pain, and some palpitations (not sure if it was Zithromax or my anxiety). I was afraid of taking it at first because I read about some scary side effects, but for me, it was nothing out of the ordinary for an antibiotic, and that sinus infection wasn't going to fix itself. If your doctor prescribed, don't be afraid, sure it has some side effects, but which drug doesn't?"

Azithromycin "Works very quickly, just don’t try to fart! Cause it isn’t a fart! Diarrhea kicked in after the first double dose. I have IBS and PTSD, so my gut is a roller coaster most times, so I recommend probiotics two hours after taking. Good luck, everyone."

"I was prescribed the 500 mg pill 1x a day for 3 days (for my sinus infection). I took pill #1 at 2 PM with my lunch. By 5 PM, my stomach started to gurgle and groan. By 6 PM, the diarrhea started. It was awful! I say it's a nightmare second only to the colonoscopy prep kit I had six months ago! I must've been on the toilet 6x in an hour and a half. I was cold, shivering, nauseated, and exhausted. I'm absolutely not continuing this treatment. :("

"I’ve taken this since I was 8 years old. I’m 28 now. I’ve gotten chronic sinus infections and ear infections, and this is the only drug that has helped. Every drug has side effects, and this may or may not affect you poorly. Never had any adverse reactions with this medication. If anything, it has improved my quality of life dealing with sinus infections. Good luck to everybody needing this!"

Azithromycin "I get sinusitis several times a year. The old-fashioned 5-day Z-packs used to work really well for me. They still do 'knock down' the worst of it (I carry a filled prescription from my doctor when I'm traveling on business)... but in the past several years, I've noticed that sometimes the sinusitis will rebound in a couple of weeks, and I end up having to take a different type of antibiotic. Unfortunately, those secondary antibiotics tend to get to me -- queasy stomach, the 'taste' of the medicine even hours later. None of that with Zithromax. The only time I had a bad experience with Zithromax side effects was the three-day pack."

Azithromycin "After years of suffering a one nostril clog, I was recently prescribed a 5-day 250 mg dosage of Zithromax. I had zero side effects, and although it didn't totally clear my sinus infection, it cleared it enough for me to know it was absolutely effective and on the right path. I can now get lengthy periods of use out of my other nostril, and that's better than I've had in 10 years."

Azithromycin "I've taken this for every URI I've ever had and feel better after the first dose. No side effects. I love it. My new doctor won't prescribe it for me for some reason. Well, she's either a PA or a NP. That may have something to do with it. I know what works and is easy to take and doesn't rip my guts out and keeps working long after the last dose is taken. I highly recommend this."
