"Ever since I was a teenager, I have slept around 10-12 hours when I do sleep. I say that because I never really know when I will sleep. I have no natural sleep cycle. My body tends to prefer waking up at 5 pm and going to sleep around 8 am, but this cycle will drift about 30 minutes each day. I experience intense visions and hallucinations when I fall asleep. I sleep deeply; nothing can wake me up. Not even a fire alarm or emergency. I tried crystal meth when I was 18, and it had the surprising effect of calming me down and making me focused. Someone mentioned that people with ADHD have this reaction. Eventually, I switched to Adderall and stayed on that for about 15-20 years. The side effects were too much, though. The doctor put me on all kinds of meds that didn't help (Ritalin, Concerta, Sunosi, Modafinil), and now Armodafinil. The effects are subtle. Some people have described it as a 'warm glow,' which is fairly accurate. It kicks in about 45 minutes after taking it. It does the job."

"Started armodafinil at 29. Just over a year of use: 200 mg daily in the morning, Monday through Friday (workdays). I typically avoid taking armodafinil on weekends (elaborated below). Prior to armodafinil, the ONLY thing that kept me 'awake' was HIGH stress and TIGHT deadlines. Armodafinil is a life changer. I'm still sleepy, but remain fully alert until at least 1 p.m. and can muster through the rest of the day without too much trouble. I don't have any side effects. Much better than modafinil, which caused me headaches, nausea, 'brain fog.' Modafinil worked for about 3 days, and then the effect wore off. I stopped taking modafinil on weekends (as prescribed by my doctor) and still had no luck. Now my doctor is okay with and without the use of armodafinil on weekends. Efficacy for armodafinil should decrease, but my experience with modafinil has me cautious."

"Conditions: Idiopathic hypersomnia/Fibromyalgia. Began medication: 2020, age 27 (now 29). Dosage: 150 mg daily. Cost: Covered by universal health care (Australia), out of pocket is $6.60/month. It has drastically increased my quality of life. Before, I could only work ~25 hours a week, and spent most of my days sleeping or resting. Long story short, I am now achieving my academic, career, and social goals in life, and overall I am very happy. My depression has also greatly improved. I am still sleepy most of the time, I still have to rest a lot, and side effects include digestive issues, minor anxiety, appetite suppression, etc. However, with a good routine/lower dosage, those side effects are very manageable. It doesn't eliminate your fatigue, but it does make it possible to ignore those urges and go on with your day without too much hassle. Basically, it helps your brain stay on track and manage things, rather than magically fixing or removing the issues altogether."

"This does not give me the motivation and energy dexamphetamine did. It also stops working in the afternoon. I find if I have to go out driving and activities, I need to take 2 dexies to get it all done. Not recommended for very active, busy lifestyle requirements."

"250 mg once a day. Works better than modafinil and the effects of awaken and energy last longer. At least a good 5 hours. Still needs to be accompanied by another medication to extend the positive effect, but so far positive. In my case, non-habit forming or addiction, but if I miss one dose, that day I'm OK, but the next day, I'm extremely sleepy and drained. Blood works all OK and within normal range. Warning... the moment you place it in your mouth, it tastes horrible. It's not the type that gives you a chance to swallow quickly without tasting that horrible aftertaste. Hopefully eventually they coat the medication. Besides that, I recommend."
