"Second day of being sick, I was diagnosed (rapid test) with strep and put on this medication. After 5 days with worsening symptoms, I started coughing up blood and was diagnosed with pneumonia. Was taken off this and put on levofloxacin. 2 days later, no more lung bleeding, and the pneumonia is almost gone. Would not recommend, as it did nothing and allowed something I caught early to worsen as if I caught it too late."

"I was diagnosed after 1.5 days of an itchy, painful throat, giant tonsils, and swollen lymph nodes. I had hot flashes but never a fever. The rapid test was positive, so the urgent care doctor prescribed Amox 500 mg, one tablet three times a day for 10 days. I finally began to feel better after day 3. I also developed bronchitis and an asthma exacerbation. Ugh. I stopped the antibiotics on day 8, which was yesterday, just because, as a nurse, I'm a bad patient. ;) I didn't have any stomach upset or diarrhea, which really surprised me. All is well, just getting the asthma in check with prednisone."

"Awful pain on the right side of the throat, white bumps everywhere. Also couldn't eat much from pain. Loss of appetite, not sure cause of the strep. Went to urgent care that night and got prescribed 500 mg amoxicillin twice a day. By day 2, almost completely gone. That night I started having diarrhea. Nothing too major. But still loss of appetite. Could barely eat anything! Day 3, stopped at the grocery store to get probiotics. All day had severe diarrhea! Plus barely eating all day made it so much worse. Also having to bartend for happy hour. I felt awful. Also, TMI, but I do in fact have hemorrhoids, so diarrhea all day really messed me up, and by the last time I went to the restroom, it was bloody, and I got freaked out. Left early. It's Thanksgiving Day, so I couldn't call my doctor, but my insurance offers to speak with an MD, and he told me to start taking one a day and not to worry my hemorrhoids were irritated from going all day. Still going to call my doctor in the AM to be sure. Still have 7 days to go."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "Tried this medication many times in the past, and I have not tolerated it well. Typically, doctors have given it to me for mycoplasma, but this time I was diagnosed with strep throat. Since I did not already have a headache due to the strep throat, I opted to go with Augmentin as recommended by the ENT. I was sure to share my past episodes with the medication, but the ENT assured me headaches were not a side effect. Well, 1 dose into it, my head feels like it weighs 50 lbs, and I am achy all over and feel totally worse. After the second dose, my full-blown headache, where I can't move, is back in full force. And I also can't sleep on it. Never again on this medication!!!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "In 2015, my doctor prescribed me Augmentin 625 for 10 days. After completing this course, my strep throat problem was gone, but I haven't been able to sleep for several months, sweating, feeling like my body is shaking and having nightmares. The next 6 months, acid reflux with too much burping, with lots of air coming out and stomach cramps and problems with my throat and colon, and from time to time, ear pain. I started treatment like GARD and IBS, but my health became poor, even my immunity power went down. In the next 6 months, I stopped all drugs and started taking a healthy diet and regular exercise. I feel better and better."

"Got an exceptionally painful case of strep throat. Ended up in the hospital as throat swelled and was struggling to breathe and absolutely could not swallow anything, not even saliva (carried a bowl around to spit into). Had IV penicillin, fluids, paracetamol, oramorph, and steroids. The steroids were the biggest help for the throat pain. Was prescribed co-amoxiclav to take home. It's definitely clearing the infection, but my god, the diarrhea, nausea, and lethargy are tough to deal with. I have zero appetite but have eaten little bits, stomach churns and gurgles severely all day. I'd like to stop but know the infection may return if I do. Therefore, I have another 4 days of this to come."

"It seems to be effective against the strep infection. My low rating is due to the fact that it is impossible for me to swallow a chalky pill this huge. I made the mistake of not looking at the prescription (stapled in the sack) when I picked it up from the drive-through window. I would have definitely asked my pharmacist for something else had I known this was what the doctor ordered. I really hate any pill made this large. Despite the recommendations not to crush it... I must be able to swallow it. And I am sure a replacement would not be free. Too late to change now."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "Honestly, the worst drug I’ve ever taken. A doctor prescribed me this after a second strep throat infection, and after the third dose, I'm experiencing stomach pain like never before and throwing up every five seconds (dry heaving included). Do not take this drug, do not let a doctor prescribe you this if you’re sensitive in any way whatsoever, and always do your research before taking an Rx."
