Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "had sinusitis for 3 weeks and got augmentine for medication. I'm on my 3rd day now and thinking of stopping as it gave me severe headache. couldn't do any work, just laying on the bed battling with it. augmentine is good, for most people, but not for me though."

"It's a very strong anyibiotic. If you take it, make sure you also take a probiotic about 3 hours between doses. You shouldn't have bowel issues of you do this. And if your doctor is any good, he/she should be telling you this. Or eat some yogurt. This stuff is powerful on your system."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I was on Augmentin for 6 days with virtually no results. I woke up on the 6th day with a severe headache and called the doctor for another prescription. Probably the worst side effect though was severe upset stomach and constipation to the point where medicines for upset stomach and suppositories did not help."

"So far so good. No major problems. Minor stomach irritation but that's normal for most antibiotics. I took it 2 a day with food and a full glass of water. My sinus symptoms cleared up very quickly. Be sure to take a few high dose probiotics while on this medication . You can pick probiotics at any drug store. Make sure your probiotics are 1 bilion count or higher to be effective in keeping the natural flora count. Taking the probiotics a few hours before I took the antibiotics worked best for me."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I have a severe sinus infection and have been taking Augmentin. I have been getting hip and back pains. My stomach feels tight and rotten. Constipation started right away. Started drinking beer to relieve my stomach, works so far, but yeah this is potent stuff and I am not recommending it - just saying what I have done. But, hey my sinus problems are diminishing..."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I took this for 4 days and now I’m seriously regretting it. I have serious diarrhea and the worst stomach pain and cramping imaginable. The severe diarrhea has meant 10-15 bowel movements per day. They have been pure liquid. I’m now on day 3 of the episodes and the diarrhea is now about a 1 to 1 mix of blood and stool. My appetite is shot and because of the pain and diarrhea I’m afraid of eating. The stomach pain is so severe that I’ve been bed ridden for the last 3 days. It’s so bothersome I’m not able to work from home while I’m off work. It’s kept me awake every night where I get 2-3 hours of sleep and then the pain builds back up which requires a pill for pain that I supplement with Tylenol. I’m waiting to hear back on the lab results from the stool sample I provided. There is a chance that my stomach chemistry is damaged to the point that I may have contracted an illness called c diff which will require a 3rd type of antibiotic."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "Started on 100mg of Augmentin for Sinus infection. Cleared up sinuses well but had severe diarrhea. I wasn't concerned by this considering it's the common side effect but I just took my last dose, not four hours later I threw up twice and had more bowel movements. This medication was not for me."

"I felt so awful. I was exhausted. I couldn't focus. I started having some kind of hallucinations, it has been the worst experience. My eyes were in pain. I started on the medication yesterday and my symptoms are not completely gone but I feel so much better already! Thank goodness my doctor knew what to give me."

"Pro: Got relief from bad sinus infection within one day Cons: Supremely hard on my stomach and energy level. If I was not nauseous, I had severe stomach pains and chest dagger like pangs. Also had the sweats. And yes all this even after taking probiotics and with food."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I started this medication 3 days ago. By the 2nd day I had lots of diarrhea and gas. Still lingering but has subsided a bit. And it is clearing up the sinius infection. Just make sure to have a toilet near you."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "Was prescribed the 875 mgs for 2 weeks for Sinuses. I developed progressively bad nausea starting day 6. Yesterday, drank water when feeling like I'd throw up and it helped. Couldn't get to any in time today and threw up for the 1st time in decades. Don't know if water would have prevented. I do try to drink a lot of water while on it, but it is difficult when you feel so bloated. Nausea peaks around three hours after taking. I've never had any problems with medication before. Will try to persevere with 5 days left and also try to not be away from home at peak symptom time, If I need antibiotics again, I will certainly ask for something different."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I am at the end of day 3 of the medication and I can't do it anymore. The side effects are making life miserable, just in a different way than I started with. I went in because of the headache and congestion that would not respond to anything over the counter plus vertigo. The vertigo went away after the first day of meds but the headache is significantly worse. Additionally, my stomach hurts really bad and constantly feels like I have overeaten a mass amount all the time, whether I have eaten or not. I have also has some mild diarrhea. So not worth it for me!"

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "Day 5 and my sinus congestion is as bad if not worse. Had a fever on day 2, chronic headache despite drinking a gallon of water a day. Ruptured my eardrum Day 2 blowing my nose after using the neti pot my doctor insisted I try (never again!). So now I’m not supposed to blow my nose. Every other antibiotic I’ve been on started clearing up my symptoms within 2 days. As a teacher it’s next to impossible to be effective while sick like this. I have sinus and ear pain and tooth pain to contend with on top of lethargy and chronic headache. So for me Augmentin has been ineffective. Never again."

"I have my 5th sinus infection of the year (2017,) which caused my ear drum to rupture. My doc prescribed me a 500 mg dose, twice a day. Antibiotics in general upset my stomach and should be taken with food, so I made sure to take with a large meal. The one time I didn't was in a rush to get on the road for a trip, and I was nauseous the entire ride, but tums helped A LOT. The infection has cleared up quickly and my ear is draining a lot less fluid out. This has been able to do what four other antibiotics haven't. Take with a full meal, and you will be feeling much better soon!"

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I was diagnosed 7 days ago with a sinus and ear infection. I had vertigo, terrible throat pain, exhausted. After about two days of Augmentin the pain went away and I started feeling better. I’m no longer dizzy, having throat and sinus pain or draining in my ear. However, I decided to stop 4 days short of my 10 day course because I’m having AWFUL side effects. Worst abdominal pain ever, constipation, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, back, hip, and leg pain. This doesn’t seem normal. Hoping my sinuses and ear are healed enough or I’ll be back to the doctor for a different medication."

"I started taking Amox-Clav 875mg for a mild sinus infection that was causing lots of pain in my sinus cavity by my right ear. I'm on day 4 and this is awful on my stomach. Nausea, bad taste in the back of my throat. I'm almost ready to stop taking it, don't know if I can take six more days of this but the pain by my ear is FINALLY gone."

"After suffering with a 3 month sinus infection and trying 3 lots of antibiotics this is the only one that worked !! Okay I had a little upset stomach but that’s a small price to pay . Note I always made sure I took it every 8 hours after a meal and with a glass of water . I’m surprised by the bad reviews here but as my doctor said people don't take the time to do a positive review so you don't often hear about the good ones ! Amazing cured me so relieved and happy . I had one weeks supply ."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I was giving this by ER doctor for sinusitis. I took the first dose at ER then didn't get a chance to fill the prescription for a week. Was still feeling a little bit ear congestion from sinusitis so I grabbed it. First pharmacy dose gave me non stop diarrhea and severe nausea like my stomach was going to explode. So now I drink probiotic yogurt with full meal. Took 2 more times not as bad but constant anxiety. Had to stop as felt worse when taking it. Head congestion pretty much gone though I just decided to take Mucinex and I feel like that has helped even though still dealing with it a bit. Never taking it again."

"This medication is terrible it causes me to have very bad headaches while I feel like I'm having migraines but it's caused by this medicine. I get terrible diarrhea, nausea and I throw up. I just feel like garbage. I was told this will clear me up and make me feel better but I feel way worse now. I have been on it for 3 days and I have now decided to stop. Hopefully I will feel better when this medicine is out of my system. Much love to all using it."

"Had post nasal drip, sinus swelling, ear and toothache diagnosed as a bacterial infection. I was skeptical, but I assume that doctors know what they're about. Initially, the swelling went down, but after a few days I began to notice mild paranoia, nervousness, and headaches. After 7 days, it was hard for me to hold down food or sleep. My gut is swollen, and I am alternating between panic attacks and severe depression. I have missed more work due to the medication than I did for the sinus problems. I hope thus abated soon after I'm done. 2 pills left and I will never take this again unless I need it to save my life."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "Having new medication anxiety, a sensitive stomach, acid reflux, and an irrational fear of diarrhea and vomiting made me terrified of taking this medication after reading a lot of these reviews. But! The key here is food. Avoid anything that upsets your guts. Eat something right before taking the pill and eat a probiotics yogurt 2-3 hours after taking the pill. This will help with angry tummy & also help prevent yeast inflections caused by antibiotics, ladies. Don’t skip a meal and snack on crackers or the likes throughout the day. This med is bad if it is in an empty stomachs. Coming from someone who has taken lower dose amoxicillin only and gotten the runs every time, with sticking to a strict regimen of never letting the gut be empty and eating the yogurt 2 hours after taking the pill I’ve had no side effects and started feeling better on the 2nd day. Goodbye bacterial sinusitis."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "Took Augmentin for severe sinusitis, after 2 hours started vomiting it would not stop, rushed to medical centre, given an injection to stop the vomiting didn't work, vomiting continued until only bile and blood was coming out, then given Zofran wafers finally the vomiting subsided, but the stomach and chest pain continued all night. Worst experience :("

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "First dose with dinner. Went to bed about 2 hrs later, woke suddenly barely able to make it to the bathroom, began vomiting then couldn't get off the floor, too weak. Began shaking, son called ambulance and next thing I remember was seeing my dad in a chair beside my bed in ER. Was on fluids, Dr came in and gave me Demerol. I went to sleep & don't remember leaving hosp or going home. That was entire experience. Never been so violently ill. Still have no idea why it made me so sick."
